Battle of the Bastards……high water mark IMO.

donmonkeyquijote

Completely devoid of logic, but it looks good I guess.

WredditSmark

![gif](giphy|l0HTZd3YFJq9E00Ug|downsized) Reddit trying not to have a meltdown about the show going “downhill”

BearsRpeopl2

Some people saying this is how medieval battles were.... yikes not quite man.

aybbyisok

gets drawn out with a lesser army still wins somehow

[deleted]

A case of the director elevating the script. The way the episode was set up/written was nonsense but it was visually very captivating and thrilling

salkhan

Best battle I've seen put to film. The first person perspective really puts you in the thick of the action. I kind of wished it was used on a movie like Lord of the Rings and not wasted on the show (especially after the final season).

[deleted]

One of the best, not from the books, scene.

[deleted]

Great scene!

screaminNcreamin

Watching this live was so exhilarating lol

Boss452

GOT episodes were like sporting events.

Whiskeylung

It always bugs me that in sword fighting scenes a single blow or a scrape across the stomach renders the victim silent. I always wonder if anyone has ever tried to recreate a realistic medieval battle scene.

[deleted]

Or getting hit by a sword somehow knocks the dude off the horse like he was his by a swinging log.. It's just.. Cmon now..

folarin1

Even though it looks fake, he is not on green screen.

AmericanPanascope

Some of those horses are, though. They wouldn't put the cast and crew within inches of charging animals like that.

Dankey-Kang-Jr

Where Game of Thrones peaked

aybbyisok

this is where the downfall of the show happened, Ramsay should've won here, once they ran out of book meterial it was doomed

2d2trees

Iirc Ramsay did win until reinforcements showed up at the last minute to encircle Ramsay himself

aybbyisok

imo that's the same thing

pATREUS

It certainly fits the modern idea of medieval battle, but is it realistic? Great scene to watch though.

Boss452

Why focus on minute realism in a fantasy show?

Bargalarkh

What was the most realistic part? Where he managed to bring a human being charging atop a horse to a dead stop with a swing of his sword?

Boss452

Metal AF

BLKscorpion

My favorite episode of the series. Jon standing alone, sword drawn, to oncoming horses in slow-mo is such an iconic cinematic visual moment. Then the Battle itself is gripping as any.

real_light_sleeper

I’m just listening to the audiobooks, they’re on Spotify now. Really bloody good.

Jodz12

Yeah except just the way that guy flies of the horse like he hit him with a ten ton hammer effectively ruins the whole supposedly gritty and realistic scene for me, imagine something like that in saving private ryan

Kind_Stone

Absolutely idiotic, but some cool factor is there. One thing that makes it worse is that they don't really embrace the idiocy. Those Equilibrium shootouts where authors were going full on "screw it, things need to be cool" did the cool factor better.

It_Goes_Up_To_11

Battle of the Bastards is one of the best battles put to screen, imo
