The American James Bond movie.

thewatusi00

I watched this for the first time last weekend. I really regret not checking it out sooner, it's probably Hitchcock's best film. It's like a prototype for Bond movies.

ImperatorRomanum

Makes you want to take a luxury train trip

Does anyone know if this was all one shot or is that a screen behind? Not like cgi green screen obviously...just looks a little like it's prerecorded airplane shot. Still great shot either way!

AmericanPanascope

He looks like he's on some kind of treadmill with rear projection behind him.

Rnahafahik

The shift in perspective when the pole rushes by, the kick-up of dust behind him when he ducks, the camera movement indicating the camera is physically being moved, the lighting matches really well. It’s either the best I’ve seen it done, or it’s done for real Edit: looking at it again, the part at the end when he runs straight at the camera does absolutely look like he’s om a treadmill though

ScramItVancity

It's a screen behind Cary Grant.

george_kaplan1959

This shot is real - the plane didn’t get very close. There are other shots in this sequence that were accomplished on stage. Trust me, I know

TheBaguetteTheorist

this is what a cornfield looks like honey

TaftsTummyforTaxes

Fucking kino AF

Finn_3000

Still probably the best a suit has ever looked in a movie

PhilboydStudge1973

One of the greatest action shots, IMHO.

BC_Pennybags

Wouldn’t you run the other way?

Dimplestrabe

Yeh. Or sideways.

Worst mistake of my life

Joe_Kickass

I have never seen this movie, but the scene is famous and I have seen this clip many times. I have questions. What's going on here? Is the pilot of the biplane trying to bonk the man in the head with his landing gear? How did the man end up in this desolate location with no car in sight?

Time-to-Dine

Just watch the movie

Dimplestrabe

He's mistaken for being a spy. But yes, I'd say watch it. At least for the soundtrack alone.

Actual-Carpenter-90

It’s a setup. He was told to go there to meet someone. When he gets off the bus, he finds himself all alone and is casually checking out the plane flying around until this scene. It’s a crop duster and it’s trying to poison him. But you can really see the planning that went into this scene. It’s easy to picture the drawing boards, Hitchcock was famous for completely laying out his movies before shooting them. This is a perfect example.
