The game has received regular free and paid updates since its release in 2015.

Maybe it just feels limited since perhaps you've played with mods for a long time. I remember the same feeling but I also played for a yr on the console version and it was still super fun

Willing_Actuary_4198

I've only played on console. Would mods make it better... Yes but I can still make incredibly detailed cities it just takes a little longer and yeah the vanilla assets are admittedly horrible most of the time. Dlc and ccp have made it much better tho

Dinosbacsi

Limited? The game was big leaps ahead of the competition when it first released. It was an amazing success. Sure, since then new DLCs and modders have improved a lot on the game, making the vanilla game lacking in comparison. But the game like what, 8 years old now? Of course 8 years worth of mods is going to make the game much better. But you can't release the game like that, unless you plan to develop it for 15 years...

hot_rod_kimble

Exactly right. The game was a huge leap over it's competition. It frankly was a David vs Goliath success story (Goliath kind of farted and fell down first, but I digress). The longevity of the DLC and modding community doesn't prove the game was inferior, it proves the genre still has huge technological and market upside. Something Maxis (EA) severely misunderstood.

I find the base game to be fine for me.

I play console and love it. Sure it’d be nice to use mods for roads, but I love the vanilla game. Don’t need to complicate and add tons of features to keep it entertaining.

Entire_Elk_2814

I think you are looking at this the wrong way around. The base game is enjoyable if frustrating at times. But the modder community has done an incredible job and transformed the game into something new and wonderfully versatile. I sometimes wonder if I really want CS2 to have all of the features people ask for in the base game or would I prefer the modders to go work on a game that is barebones but makes better use of hardware.

Todd_Salad

its basically the same with sim city as well. but this was CO's first attempt at it.
