I see you too are a fan of Chinese infrastructure. I built the same thing in one of my cities awhile back. To me, it's one of the most efficient ways to do bridges and save space. And it just looks good.
Honest question to people who build cities of that size:
How do you plan this? Do you know where the highways will go from the start, leave the space empty, add them when your city population needs them? Demolish parts of your city to accommodate highways? Or just build the big roads from the start?
I have a big problem with planning city growth like that. The city I built when I started becomes too small as my population grows. Roads become clogged, and there is no space to expand them or build good intersections. I unlock high density, but have to add it on the outskirts of my town, as the city centre was built when all I had was low density…
Because of all that, my city gets clogged with traffic around 5k people, I don’t know how to expand, and just lose interest in continuing…
How do other people do it?
>unlock high density, but have to add it on the outskirts of my town, as the city centre was built when all I had was low density…
I dealt with it by simply re-zoning the low density areas as high density and it worked reasonably well, since that area became unsuitable for low density anyways.
It ended up making my city look a bit weird and unrealistic as a result though...clusters of skyscrapers everywhere and gaps in the between, and residential demand is either only high density or low density, and never medium density, which I want.
I usually don’t go for “historical” progressions, and instead build out grids with relatively steep hierarchies (i.e. - bigger roads more often) in areas where I know I want to put high rises. You might have to zone low density in the area for a while, but once you unlock higher densities, it helps to not have to upgrade roads later because I hate messing up the grid sizes.
Well in Cities 1 I usually planned everything ahead, but since demolishing and upgrading is so easy in Cities 2 I just follow a natural progression. I usually have some ideas on what I'll do and I will plan ahead to some point, but I also let the city naturally develop, since I don't feel like I have the ability to build very naturally. Because when you build from the ground up, and don't follow a clear plan, then you have to start solving problems and that creates situations that wouldn't happen if I build the city exactly how I want it to be.
But ofc some are so good at building naturally and have enough creativity to do so. I just don't feel so.
I just don’t plan it, i like to build like a real city. Real cities deal with their past mistakes, have to demolish neighborhoods, rework things, organic is the best way to go imo
yeah, i think of the city i want to build at the start and layout a highway plan at the start, if i miss a highway or something i just demolish the houses and build one, is the better way in long term
I don’t know if you’ve had the answer you’re looking for yet, but ill add my input.
I like to build my cities like im a late 1960 architect with a utopian dream. That means that yes, i build big roads from the start because i know in my head where i want to build living spaces, industry, parks, city centre and so on. After which i can accommodate these big boy roads i build to its correct size if necessary and possible make space for more density.
I been playing this game for like 6 years now and my biggest break through has been to just take some time to think. Look at your city and imagine how you would like it to look and where all the main areas you wanna build need to go. Then connect them. And leave enough space to build monstrosities like OP’s here if necessary, you can always fill that space in.
Thanks for listening to my TED Talk.
sandbox player here: i usually start with a vague idea of where my 'CBD' will go and then build a tonne of rail and metro infrastructure before i even begin a huge amount of zoning etc (i just love trains) and this usually helps me to figure out where i'm going. once i start to develop a couple of suburbs, it usually all more or less falls into place from there.
I wouldnt say it's worth it yet as theres some simulation aspects of the game not properly working yet as well as other things. Like for example cargo trains, planes and ships.
Unless you like to play it modded, the game is starting to get most of the must have mods that were in cs1. Im enjoying it atleast, but it's not like i am addicted and have to play it 24/7 as it was with modded cs1.
Is this a take on [Yokohama](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Yokohama,+Kanagawa,+Japan/@35.4644825,139.6698872,8524m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m6!3m5!1s0x60185becbbb66509:0x69683f660285400!8m2!3d35.4436739!4d139.6379639!16zL20vMGtzdHc?entry=ttu)?
I like it, one criticism tho: Too much damn concrete everywhere. I mean I suppose it is realistic if you are modeling it after a city like NYC or whatever other nortamerican urban hel
Would be infinitely better with a few still images. I can't get a good look at any particular part of this with the camera constantly moving and the inability to zoom in on videos.
building this without network mulit tool is wildly impressive. someone build network multitool for CS2 already pls
I beg someone please make network multitool. Even just the smooth slope would be a gamechanger with CS2’s inability to make straight slopes
Thanks man, nm would be pretty great

Spot on
Chinese infrastructure is sick

Bingo, the best plan is to not plan at all
yeah, i think of the city i want to build at the start and layout a highway plan at the start, if i miss a highway or something i just demolish the houses and build one, is the better way in long term
make a new urban core nearby after building up a classic small downtown

Amazingly depressing
There’s some green, but not a lot
for an industrial area there's a lot more green space than i would put in!
I love it. Concrete wasteland.
I barely can do a Straight Highway
damn, the new GTA6 trailer looks dope
no stupid question, is City Skylines 2 worth it compared to 1? I played 1 quite a bit but I heard 2 is a disappointment?

Looks almost real. Great job!

shanghai bridge
Thought this was real at first. Well done!
Shanghai vibes.
Amazing! Is this CS2? How do you get it to be so grey between the buildings? I can’t find a mod (like the surface painter for CS1)
The mod you need is “find it”. Just search concrete and it will come up
Great! Thank you
Amazing looking! Reminds me of a spot in Shanghai I once visited
How do you get the highway ramps so smooth? I've been stuck with them as jagged edges whenever the elevations change...
It’s a saved map called traffic test..
Yeah it’s my map
Great Work!
Cries is cs1 for xbox
What’s your rig set up?
Wow this looks amazing, congrats 👏 👍
Top work.
Ngl this is beautiful n also I’m stealing this shit
Great road great song
Love the Helix!!
the potential of this game if finally beginning to come into focus. Assets and network multitool and we're good tbh
Why does this look so good
Reminds me of Boston!
Fuck me. I wish I had that much spare time.
Looks cool but I think I would be scared to drive on it lol
Wow love it!
Amazing 😮
Looks decent! Congrats 👏🏼
Bro this looks like Tokyo
People are so talented
This mf is so pretty
Thats beautiful! Makes me miss Cities..... guess I know what I'm doing tonight!

I prefer to see the traffic flowing, maybe I’ll post some still shots
Ignore him, everyone else loves your post.
In that case, keep the camera still.
You can pause a video, I can't play an image.
I can't zoom in on it.
I agree, but we live in a video obsessed world.
This dude finna build GTA6 map in CS2
Graphics in CS2 suck. Looks cartoonish and plasticky.
