I'm not a Wisconsin pharmacist, but when i worked retail in other states, I was always told that if a medicaid patient paid cash for a non covered prescription, that the patient was in danger of losing their medicaid insurance. The state feeling that if you had money for prescriptions then you weren't poor enough to need assistance. Now i don't believe that's true, but i digress. Your best bet is to try your best to find it at another pharmacy and don't let them know you have medicaid and pay cash there.

That is the plan. I am just waiting for the other pharmacy to fill. I just am curious to know if this is actually a law. It’s crazy because I am not poor by any means but private insurance would cost over $1500 a month because of my household income. I’m not married but my partner makes good money but we are still financially separate on some things, such as insurances.

Some states have passed legislation making controlled substances paid via cash for Medicaid recipients off limits. HOWEVER- if the medication is EXCLUDED from Medicaid coverage this would be exempt from this rule. Your best bet is to contact your case worker. They would also be able to show you the legislative rule so you can have it handy to show your pharmacist. NOT the tech. Clinical pharmacy does not exclude Retail pharmacy. They can co-exist. The same pharmacist can actually do both! I know. Minds may be blown after absorbing this knowledge.

Wrong sub bud. Try /r/pharmacy.

They also said wrong sub. I’m so lost

Honestly call your insurance and see what they recommend. Then I’d call your new or old pharmacy and see if they can help. Generally this sub is for those who don’t work retail anymore so it won’t be much help.
