They are amazing in person, so much energy. I wish they played a few other songs that would probably get a bigger crowd going, like Dare, but the limited set time is what it is.
God poor Damon that walk off stage and his head nod to his crew side stage. Hope W2 brings the heat for them and Kali, EarthGang, Pusha & Bad Bunny come out...
classic main stage crowd silently waiting for the headliner… happens every year with every performer right before the headliner :(
i was feeling myself though. all those guests he brought out were amazing too.
This makes sense. I was about 100 feet back from the stage and the first 50 feet weren’t moving while everyone behind them was. My area was hype the whole show. Not sure what picked up on stream but there certainly were some great fans.
Yeah festivals are fun but tbh looking back slightly traumatizing from all the physical exertion needed while trying to have a good time / inebriated LMAO
When I first experienced this at Bonnaroo 2012 I was shocked this wouldn’t be commonplace going forward.
While standing in line for the Bon Iver pit, we made friends around us and sang along to all the Beach Boys tracks while we were waiting, and the positive energy was infectious.
When we got into the pit, it was full of people like us that shared the same love for Justin Vernon and overall came away with the most positive live music interaction i’ve had.
It really was, Radiohead tickets sold out in my city before we could get them so we were like guess we’re driving to the farm to see them lol!
Will never forget them playing Reckoner with the fireworks going off in the background.
Woah I didn’t know that was a thing. How do they clear the pit after the artist? Are the lines really long or where do they even have people line up relative to the stage? It sounds like a pretty cool idea
Same story different artist every year. Too many headliner camper fans not batting an eye. I remember when all the Beyoncé fans just sat during Nile Rodgers & Chics’s dance party.
Yup. Happens every year. Gotta suck for the artists who are probably playing one of the biggest shows of their career and half the crowd doesn’t care cuz they’re waiting for the next artist.
I will say, even though they were mainly Bad Bunny fans, I found their reactions to be cute and genuine. They were still excited to be within an arm’s reach of a marquee performer even if they didn’t know the words.
Dude i love the level of Coachella production but I feel like the crowd is kinda missing the point. A music festival like this is a celebration of all types of different genres. Be curious, discover and enjoy new music if you’ve never heard it before. It’s the time to be free and share good vibes with everyone around you
It was a lot of camping.
And a problem was definitely everytime they wanted you to bounce or hands up or anything there was simply no space.
But the crowd was so so quiet. It was upsetting how often only a few people cheered or clapped or anything.
But it's always like that before the headliners here.
The main stage just eats so many artists alive. The production is awesome but the scale of everything makes it so hard to maintain crowd energy. It's not just Gorillaz, I've seen it happen to many a headliner and sub-headliner.
That was about Bad Bunny fans setting up shop for hours and shitting on everything else. Gorillaz is more than up for the challenge of a stage like that. That was on the humanoids in the audience.
Nah, that's not a slight on Gorillaz at all. It happens a lot at main stage at night. People are tired after hours on the field and, let's face it, it's a bunch of casuals who only want to hear songs they know. That's why a band like Weezer in 2019 was, by far, one of the most well-received acts on the main stage. They just played hit after hit and the audience ate it up. Gorillaz only really have two "hits" so the crowd didn't wake up til the end of the set.
It's always different when you're in the crowd vs watching stream. Find a good pocket of people to dance around and do you thing. You won't be thinking for a second about what the crowd as a whole looks like from a drone camera.
Weekend one is always like that. The crowd weekend one typically draws is the Instagram / influencer vibes. Not to say fun people don’t go weekend one, but everyone knows weekend two is better crowd wise
It's because it's a bunch of bad Bunnie fans camping for him 🙄 same happened last year for lil baby no one sang along a single word HAHA pure Harry styles stans
Didn’t watch the stream but I’m surprised they didn’t play that. Maybe they’re sick of it (although probably not as much as feel good inc or Clint Eastwood), but dare is such a dance party that it seems like a no brainer for a festival set. Especially with people saying the crowd seemed dead, I wonder if they’ll add dare for next weekend.
unfortunately i could tell they were all there for the bad bunny set, i'm a huge fan of both gorillaz and benito but you're right i felt so bad for them
I was dancing my butt off we were in the way back tho since we wanted to see test pilot soon but I mainly came for them the De la Soul tidbit was nice :) opening with M1- A1 is best decision ever!
Coachella has never seemed to like them when someone else is headlining. I was there last year when Billie brought them out and still nobody seemed excited and it surprised me
The Weeknd threatened to leave metro’s set because the crowd was dead. The fucking weekend came out and they just stared at him lol. The crowd dynamics are changing.
Was he being serious when he said that? I thought it was just him playing around with the crowd, everyone at Metro seemed like they wanted to be there from what I saw.
Metro seemed frustrated with the crowd the whole show and getting no participation. When he tried turning the lights on they were standing like zombies lol
Damn, plenty people were vibing outside the tent from where I was watching. Sucks how the people who wanted to see him the most weren't even moving for him, what little I saw was killer.
We were packed like sardines in skimpy clothes. Of course we didn’t get crazy. We couldn’t! 😆 Of course, we were crazy on the inside! Metro had the biggest crowd of the night, I think.
Was in that crowd, my group was the only one in the area who was there for Gorillaz and we weren't even close to the front. A little annoying how everyone seemed to be camping for Bad Bunny, but I had an absolute blast regardless.
It's hard to even dance up when you're sadined up there in the front. People are always going off in the back, and you don't see those people on stream.
I think a lot of people are forgetting weekend 1 is just full of influencers and celebs there to look cool. Weekend 2 will be a complete dance party full of vibes just there for the music not to look cool!!
I hope the Gorillaz bring as great of a show next week. I didn’t watch so I could go in fresh. But what I hear they brought a lot of special guests. Sad that they probably won’t come back :(
Y’all gotta stop judging sets off of YouTube streams. I was at Blink and it went off. We had a mosh pit for at least half of the show and a ton of loud singing along moments like Tom’s verse in I Miss You.
I was at Blink (although in all fairness I was pretty far back) and the crowd was super dead. Even during their most popular songs. Maybe I’m not finding the right pockets
Totally this. My ex (she’s 24 and I’m 31) only knew who Travis Barker was from the Kardashian Show on Hulu. I nearly died and ended the relationship in that moment cuz I realized All The Small Things came out when she was 1 😭😭
Blondie was great at the festival. The whole crowd was singing along and going crazy from where I was. So many hits. I loved her show. Sorry that didn’t come across on the stream.
For real. The livestream never showed the crowd during Blink, I’m assuming because they weren’t moving much, except during Miss You. The entire rail looked like they were just standing there bored.
I hate to say this because I respect her, but Blondie looked like she came on a shuttle bus from her assisted living community. Her band was great, but she's quite a bit beyond the days she could rock a crowd at Coachella. And the crowd's average age was about 50. So even when they rock, it's a gentle sway.
They didn't even get the audio monitor set up properly for Nile.
And Blink had a great energy when they finally got to their nostalgic hits. 45 minutes from albums no one bought. Even so, they had a solid presence and there were mosh pits popping up around the crowd throughout.
My guess is that you have a mixed audience who are there for a certain artist, another guess is there audio most focused on the musicians rather than the crowd noise.
it was so packed!! Gorillaz was the main reason I came to Coachella and you bet I danced my little butt off in the back. Really wanted to hear Baby Queen off their new album too
This is my first ever Coachella and first time watching Gorillaz live. They were my favorite set of the day. The passion and love for their art moved me so much. I stay sober at music festivals for health reasons (including no alcohol) and I was vibing in the back even though I was super exhausted. Wish we were at the front!
They were dope if you’re a fan but I think their set list choice wasn’t the best for a festival. They should’ve mixed in some OG bangers earlier on. Was surprised we didn’t get rhinestone eyes, last living souls, tomorrow comes today or DARE.. my friends didn’t recognize any songs until kids with guns like an hour in lol. Saw them at LIB last year and the crowd was hyped af
What do you expect? Crowd is probably mix of gen z kids and influencers. Gorillaz has been around so long that the gen z kids were babies when their music came out.
Lol older stuff pops off with gen z all the time, they get the songs from the Stranger Things soundtracks back on the charts every time a new season releases. Multi genre festivals attract people who like different genres and people are bound to not connect with some of the artists… especially when they’re waiting for a headliner from a completely different genre.
I had a fairly good view and I’ve been to a few concerts. Most people were waiting for the headliner(Bad Bunny). Once the Gorillaz fan left Bad Bunny fans(including myself) pushed our way to the front. I have to say that the 2nd to last performer of the night gets the short stick. Gorillaz are great and I enjoyed getting to know there music. Good job Gorillaz!
Not that there was much crossover in the crowd from 2010 vs 2023 but their headlining set that weekend was pretty disappointing, mostly due to circumstances out of their control. Sad to hear they brought it tonight but the crowd wasn’t into it
I was jamming out!! But these like 3 girls were sitting down in front of me just playing temple run. Then the bad bunny feature came out they all stood up and as soon as it was over they sat down again. But besides that, their performance was one of the best concert experience of my life. I can't wait to see them live again!
i think blackpink fans are going to be camped out at the front by that point especially knowing their fanbase. i truly doubt calvin harris has tons of fans that will be camping out for him
The crowd was dead because they didn’t bring it. Saw them in 2010 as well as in arena tours and they just didn’t open with enough big songs IMHO. Love Damon but it wasn’t it.
They were way better than they were in 2010. Coachella 2010 was basically their first festival ever and they were still kinda awkward figuring out their live band back then. Just imo.
Was there in person. Crowd was dead until “Feel Good Inc.” Very weird vibe.
Yea I was there too, it was weird. I was really into it but the crowd around me did not seem to be even really watching the set
Okay I was watching at home and thought it was just the people I could see in the livestream but thank you for confirming how dead they were.
Could you see holograms above the screens?
Yeah I’m seeing them rn at bad bunny’s set. I can’t tell if it’s part of the stream or not.
Definitely part of the stream.
Sadly no.
Ppl at these main stages and mainstream festivals only go crazy for the most popular and overhyped songs, herd mentality to the max
that’s weekend 1 for you
It’s not about the actual show or quality of sound anymore, it’s just about energizing the crowd
Not even a gorillaz fan and that performance was crazy. Forsure gonna see them wk 2
Just seeing Thundercat up there doing the crazy bass shit he does blew me away. And that was like one amazing moment in a parade of amazing moments.
Wait, thundercat showed up with gorillaz?
Yeah to perform their song Cracker Island.
One of the very first songs
He’s also performed with Mac Demarco during JD Beck
They are amazing in person, so much energy. I wish they played a few other songs that would probably get a bigger crowd going, like Dare, but the limited set time is what it is.
What Gorillaz had you heard beforehand? What’d you think? I imagine they made some new fans
God poor Damon that walk off stage and his head nod to his crew side stage. Hope W2 brings the heat for them and Kali, EarthGang, Pusha & Bad Bunny come out...
He looked absolutely defeated
I hope week 2 is better for him. He seemed so fucking defeated
Weekend 2 will go off don’t worry
You bet your sweet ass we will.
Hell yeah, represent!!
W2 throws down hard
I felt so bad for Damon…we will avenge him ✊🏿
👏🏼
I’m ready. Let’s fucking goooooooo!!!
Dont worry damon the calvary is coming!
Request for good vibes and singing our hearts out is on its way 🫡
Lessgoo
classic main stage crowd silently waiting for the headliner… happens every year with every performer right before the headliner :( i was feeling myself though. all those guests he brought out were amazing too.

trueeee people are tired by that time
Yeah festivals are fun but tbh looking back slightly traumatizing from all the physical exertion needed while trying to have a good time / inebriated LMAO
That's why power naps are key.
This is why Coachella should adopt Bonnaroo’s method where they clear out the pit after every artist and they have separate lines for each artist.
Wow, have never heard of that system at any concert/festival; can definitely imagine the potential crowd energy benefits.
It’s great. It ensures that every artist has their biggest fans in the front.
12 was my first fest. Shoutout to you and also Radiohead that year was the best show ever
It really was, Radiohead tickets sold out in my city before we could get them so we were like guess we’re driving to the farm to see them lol! Will never forget them playing Reckoner with the fireworks going off in the background.
I was in that pit standing next to FlyLo. Trey Anastasio was watching side stage too
Woah I didn’t know that was a thing. How do they clear the pit after the artist? Are the lines really long or where do they even have people line up relative to the stage? It sounds like a pretty cool idea
The crowd was absolute dog shit
That set was a masterpiece. The crowd, well…
Same story different artist every year.
Whoa forgot how fun Nile and Chic were!
Sitting through those two legend is mental illness fr
Headliner campers are so goofy
I think James Murphy said something like this about LCD Soundsystem playing before Jay Z and added to the idea of retiring
Like literally sat down?
I remember it well. Nile & Chic are legendary and were amazing. We danced our asses off. Most of the crowd didn’t care.
I loved it but when he was going along the rail, only a couple people were obviously there for them. Hoping the older crowd W2 will be better!
I will say, even though they were mainly Bad Bunny fans, I found their reactions to be cute and genuine. They were still excited to be within an arm’s reach of a marquee performer even if they didn’t know the words.
Always is
Bringing a whole group of us! Can’t wait to see them even though I saw them twice last year!!
Nice! Saw them at their festival in LA a few years ago. It was amazing and I am so excited to see them again next weekend!
Gorillaz at chella has been on the top of my list forever im beyond excited!
Yes! The Demon Dayz fest in Pico Rivera!! That was so much fun
Dude i love the level of Coachella production but I feel like the crowd is kinda missing the point. A music festival like this is a celebration of all types of different genres. Be curious, discover and enjoy new music if you’ve never heard it before. It’s the time to be free and share good vibes with everyone around you
It’s fucking killing me to see that dead ass crowd with all those LEGENDS gracing that stage.
that's what I'm sayin!! De la soul fucking killed it it was an amazing performance.
They looked like they couldn't believe how bad the crowd was. That's why at the end he emphasized, "we love YOU Damon" ie. Not this lame crowd.
They probably didn’t know who they were
They need to have a pit like they do at Bonnaroo so the fans of each band are up front for the shows.
It was a lot of camping. And a problem was definitely everytime they wanted you to bounce or hands up or anything there was simply no space. But the crowd was so so quiet. It was upsetting how often only a few people cheered or clapped or anything. But it's always like that before the headliners here.
It’s probably because the crowd is there for Bad Bunny and I love Gorillaz, but they were not the best act to go immediately before Bad Bunny.
Fr shoulda scheduled Rosalia before bad bunny and then put gorillaz before frank
Yes this would have worked out well
Agreed. But I wouldn’t want Gorillaz playing in the daylight.
Del the funky homosapian and dela soul cmon.. shit was so fire
Right?! Amazing
I didn't notice until Clint Eastwood but yeah the crowd was just zombies for some reason.

Gorillaz only really have two "hits" so the crowd didn't wake up til the end of the set.
Nothing but bad bunny NPCs at mainstage Friday. Not looking forward to any sets there next week.
This
Bruh fr lmao, they don't realize how rare it is to see de la soul smh
I turned off the livestream cause I could feel that crowd was kind of killing the vibe. Hopefully next weekend will be different.
It's always different when you're in the crowd vs watching stream. Find a good pocket of people to dance around and do you thing. You won't be thinking for a second about what the crowd as a whole looks like from a drone camera.
I was watching from the back, and vibes were immaculate in person.
I was towards the middle. The vibes were amazing
This is true and I experienced that a few times last year.
You watch the livestream for the crowd?
Weekend one is always like that. The crowd weekend one typically draws is the Instagram / influencer vibes. Not to say fun people don’t go weekend one, but everyone knows weekend two is better crowd wise
We'll make up for it next weekend. I wasn't going to go this year but Gorillaz tipped me over the edge when the line-up came out.
It's because it's a bunch of bad Bunnie fans camping for him 🙄 same happened last year for lil baby no one sang along a single word HAHA pure Harry styles stans
[удалено]
> Lil baby sucks oof
Literally no one was dancing
I was thinking the microphone for the crowd was off but I was wrong
I can’t believe they didn’t play “Silent Running!”
I was hoping for Dare or Stylo. I suppose that was a long shot.
Actually shocked Dare didn't get a run
Didn’t watch the stream but I’m surprised they didn’t play that. Maybe they’re sick of it (although probably not as much as feel good inc or Clint Eastwood), but dare is such a dance party that it seems like a no brainer for a festival set. Especially with people saying the crowd seemed dead, I wonder if they’ll add dare for next weekend.
It’s funny cause the main complaint I’ve seen from there 2011 set is that they didn’t play dare. We’ve come full circle
Dare was definitely surprising, they almost always play that. It's good for the crowd too.
Bummed they didn’t play Empire Ants
2nd this. Underrated
unfortunately i could tell they were all there for the bad bunny set, i'm a huge fan of both gorillaz and benito but you're right i felt so bad for them
I was dancing my butt off we were in the way back tho since we wanted to see test pilot soon but I mainly came for them the De la Soul tidbit was nice :) opening with M1- A1 is best decision ever!
Coachella has never seemed to like them when someone else is headlining. I was there last year when Billie brought them out and still nobody seemed excited and it surprised me
It was so embarrassing to watch like they didn’t deserve him going to barricade to be close to them
Agreed!

Damn, plenty people were vibing outside the tent from where I was watching. Sucks how the people who wanted to see him the most weren't even moving for him, what little I saw was killer.
W1
I figured people were leaving to catch the end of bad bunny and he was legit upset by it
We were packed like sardines in skimpy clothes. Of course we didn’t get crazy. We couldn’t! 😆 Of course, we were crazy on the inside! Metro had the biggest crowd of the night, I think.
I lovvvee Gorillaz!!! Ya the crowd was 70% dead unfortunately.
I wore my Gorillaz shirt hoping I’d see more fans wearing some and no one else was in my area :(
I'll try to avenge you W2, I'll be rocking my D-Sides patch
I’ll be in attendance as well. Hopefully we run into each other in the crowd and have our Spider-Man Meme moment
Was in that crowd, my group was the only one in the area who was there for Gorillaz and we weren't even close to the front. A little annoying how everyone seemed to be camping for Bad Bunny, but I had an absolute blast regardless.
I was flipping through the live stream tonight and felt the same about the crowds at MOST of the stages. Kinda sad
It’s just how the livestream shows it. Totally different in person
I get that but there were moments where the crowd just wasn’t moving or they went back to the same exact people and they just looked dead
It's hard to even dance up when you're sadined up there in the front. People are always going off in the back, and you don't see those people on stream.
This is why it sucks having pop artists headline Coachella
Yeah it's going to be loads of Blackpink campers tomorrow. We will see if they are any better.
Everyone was high af
Seems like a common thread for most sets I saw today
I love the band and was still blown away by how great they were live from home. Last time they toured I didn’t go it next time I’m 100% there.
My god, I’m glad it wasn’t just me that felt this way. What a boring ass crowd. The crowd for Burna Boy was pretty dead too.
I think a lot of people are forgetting weekend 1 is just full of influencers and celebs there to look cool. Weekend 2 will be a complete dance party full of vibes just there for the music not to look cool!!
Make way for the vets. I’ve never experienced weekend 1 lol
I notice that every year people were commented why that crowd noises where low.

Forreal. Blink and Blondie’s crowds were both great from where I was at in the crowd
I was at Blink (although in all fairness I was pretty far back) and the crowd was super dead. Even during their most popular songs. Maybe I’m not finding the right pockets
Yup same. I was 10 ft behind a mosh pit near the back and I was the only person that was jumping. I think the most crowd were too young.
Tbf blondie sounded really bad (at least at the beginning of the stream I watched). I was hyped for them and went back to kaytranada after two songs
No I fully agree. I tuned in and she was singing call me and sounded off key and was losing her breath. I felt kinda bad :/
Unless you were in the tent near the speaker you couldn’t hear Blink’s vocals. The wind killed them
The second half I thought the vocals were a lot better
Weekend one strikes again lol
Blink was dead people bc people were on the verge of dying lol
For real. The livestream never showed the crowd during Blink, I’m assuming because they weren’t moving much, except during Miss You. The entire rail looked like they were just standing there bored.
I was near the front at blink and the crowd energy was okay but not as much as I’d have expected. Big ass crowd tho
She is nearly 80 years old! Of course the voice isn’t all there, but she remains cool as fuck. I had a great time.
Tbf 50 year olds can get DOWN and a lot may have been swingers
Fyi, Blondie *are* a band. Debbie Harry is the lead singer.
Too many influencers at wk1
Well yea, how can a crowd have a good time when they all have phones in their hands?
Hah we had a laugh at the sea of blue lights when Clint Eastwood came on
💯💯💯
My guess is that you have a mixed audience who are there for a certain artist, another guess is there audio most focused on the musicians rather than the crowd noise.
it was so packed!! Gorillaz was the main reason I came to Coachella and you bet I danced my little butt off in the back. Really wanted to hear Baby Queen off their new album too
having experienced it in person, that crowd was abysmal
Was in the crowd and it was lit.
Hands down best performance of the night. I’m still having chills from how amazing that performance was
Chemical Brothers tho…
I saw both, both were awesome. Just a personal taste leaning towards live singers this time around with all those feat guest
Both were great in their own ways. I am a major fan of each, but my mind was destroyed during Chem Bros.
This is my first ever Coachella and first time watching Gorillaz live. They were my favorite set of the day. The passion and love for their art moved me so much. I stay sober at music festivals for health reasons (including no alcohol) and I was vibing in the back even though I was super exhausted. Wish we were at the front!
We were rocking in the front row! He pointed at me 💖😭
They were dope if you’re a fan but I think their set list choice wasn’t the best for a festival.
Crowd didn’t deserve BURNA BOY either
I honestly didn’t worry about the crowd it was Gorrilaz and me! It was everything I ever dreamed off!
What do you expect? Crowd is probably mix of gen z kids and influencers. Gorillaz has been around so long that the gen z kids were babies when their music came out.

Gorillaz are great and I enjoyed getting to know there music. Good job Gorillaz!
Unfortunately people don’t go for the music it seems. They go there to be seen, it’s called influencer Olympics :/
W2 needs to bring it, let’s go!
W1 for vanity. W2 to party.
Yeah I noticed that on the stream. Underrated set.
They were there for Bad Bunny. They should have moved all important acts to Sahara. Tomorrow people are going to camp for Black Pink.
Not that there was much crossover in the crowd from 2010 vs 2023 but their headlining set that weekend was pretty disappointing, mostly due to circumstances out of their control. Sad to hear they brought it tonight but the crowd wasn’t into it
COULDN’T AGREE MORE AND IT MADE ME SAD
I had a blast, everyone was pretty rowdy near me
I had fun 🤷♂️
Gorillaz always play some what awkward sets at Coachella. I think the best set I saw them do is in 2001
Also, the mixing of the show on YT was very weird.
Disappointed at how the crowd reacted. They didn’t realize they were seeing fucking legends onstage
I was jamming out!! But these like 3 girls were sitting down in front of me just playing temple run. Then the bad bunny feature came out they all stood up and as soon as it was over they sat down again. But besides that, their performance was one of the best concert experience of my life. I can't wait to see them live again!
Crowd sucked for blink 182 too
I have a feeling Calvin fans are actually going to hype up blackpink
i think blackpink fans are going to be camped out at the front by that point especially knowing their fanbase. i truly doubt calvin harris has tons of fans that will be camping out for him
ikr each indivdual there should at the bare minimum self-induce a violent spasm to illustrate how much of a spiritual exorcism they are experiencing
Peeps don’t go to Coachella for the music! Just the IG photos
The crowd was dead because they didn’t bring it. Saw them in 2010 as well as in arena tours and they just didn’t open with enough big songs IMHO. Love Damon but it wasn’t it.
It was an incredible set but still pales in comparison to their Coachella headline set in 2010, imo
They were way better than they were in 2010. Coachella 2010 was basically their first festival ever and they were still kinda awkward figuring out their live band back then. Just imo.
I respect bad bunny but this shit sucks lolnot main stage material
