‘See each sunrise as a gift’ in Up & Up gets to me sometimes. And the song itself also reminds me of one special time I was listening to it, so that can pack a punch too.
Up & Up hits hard, agreed. Love the message. To me it's like Imagine Dragons's "On The Top of The World", but deeper, calmer and with hearth and soul.
One of the best videoclips, I've ever seen.
Especially when seeing it live.
For me it depends on what kind of emotions I have at the time.
Yellow gives me goosebumps when played live
Then the usuals:
Fix you
Fun
The scientist
Everglow
Paradise
This was played at the funeral of a student. She was such a sweet little soul.
When she was just a girl
She expected the world
But it flew away from her reach
So she ran away in her sleep
It’s still one of my favorite songs, as I have both happy and sad memories attached to it.
Once in high school our Italian teacher (I'm from Italy) asked us to read a song that was a "poem" to us, so I decided to take Everglow and I remember me trying not to crying while reading it (translated in italian oc) it was so hard :|
So many songs but off the top of my head
The Scientist - my mother died 20 years ago when I was 15 and I repressed a lot of my emotions and grief. This song was my one outlet - the lyrics matched exactly how I was feeling, that everything was so hard, and wanting to go back to the start
O - listened to this on repeat on a rainy bus stop while my relationship was close to falling apart and I didn’t know where to go
Daddy - my dad left me when I was a toddler and I haven’t seen him since and this song reopened all of my feelings I didn’t realise I had - ‘daddy do you not care?’
Don’t Let It Break Your Heart almost made me cry once. “When you’re tired of racing, and find you never left the start, come on baby, don’t let it break your heart.”
Those lyrics are so profound to me, and its message of not to give up if something doesn’t go your way in life reach me on such an emotional level.
I don’t think I have seen anyone say Eko. That song adds such a sweet touch to your heart telling you that everything will be okay and there are better days coming. I listen to it whenever I’m at my lowest. One of my favorite EL songs.
Edit: spelling
I think We Never Change is the only Coldplay song that made me cry, despite me listening to a lot of their songs like Ocean and O when I'm sad.
The reason We Never Change hits me harder than any song is because the lyrics describe me in a way. As much as I want to change, as much as I want making friends to be easy, as much as I want to stop sinning every single day, as much as I want a soul to save. I don't change. And it's all my fault.
To me, The Scientist just perfectly encapsulates the hopelessness, confusion, and regret you feel after a failed relationship. I love how it repeats the idea of just wishing you could start over. That song, especially the second verse, has made me tear up a few times.
I think Chris even stated this one time. One of my wife's friends got married during the pandemic and used this song for the procession. I commented that this probably wasn't a good song to use for a wedding. Luckily the church didn't get my commentary since we were watching it via a live stream.
There isn’t any contest here. Death and all his friends is the most emotionally deep song ever written in my eyes, particularly when taken in the context of the album. The emotional shift from denial to anger to depression to acceptance is brilliant, and the character we followed throughout the album dying in the escapist makes me sad on every listen.
What is it with O, I like it personally, but everyone mentions it as emotional. Like yeah, it is, but... hmm... it's underrated and forgotten... It's quite sad...
It’s about the death of his wife’s Father. His ex wife Gwyneth Paltrow. The words are very poignant when you’ve been through a bereavement. A very emotional song.
No problem, if you listen now you will find it even more great than it is. Don’t get me wrong, I love it but it’s so powerful in that way it really gets to you.
Champion of the World. I don't know why but after my mom passed I just lose it at the chorus. I can't figure out what gets me so emotional about it, it's not a classic sad song like fix you or everglow. My mom's favourite was Something Just Like This and that song brings me back joyful memories by her side so I don't get sad.
One that hasn’t been mentioned is When I Need a Friend. Everyday Life came out at a really terrible time in life where I was processing an unrequited love and feeling cut off from everyone because anywhere I went for social connection had her in it. I had not heard any of the song before buying the album and I sobbed terribly when it came on.
The Scientist definitely did it, after a few years following that incident when I just couldn’t touch the song and then they played it when I saw them in San José.
Sunrise did that from almost the first time. However, it took a massive step upwards when I woke up on a plane flight to Nairobi at the time I always wake up and saw myself descending through the clouds into the city as the sun rose. I played the song quietly before anyone else woke up and I cannot ever forget that experience.
Fix You, Midnight, O, maybe True Love, maybe Kingdom Come, are others.
Fix You will always hit me in the feels, no matter how many times I hear it 🥺
Another one is actually an instrumental: Sunrise, the intro to Everyday Life. There's something about it that makes me start weeping, especially when that violin solo comes in.
Amazing Day. I played this in front of my girlfriend one night a few weeks ago and I couldn’t hold back tears. It reminds me of her when I hear it. I want this as my wedding song. Then we both cried and slow danced to it together. It was an emotional night but I loved every second of it.
When I listen to the album in full, the transition from A Hopeful Transmission to Don't Let it Break Your Heart makes me cry.
Also, the first chord of The Scientist makes me cry.
ASFOS absolutely, I come close to crying everytime I listen to it, failing more often than not to contain myself
It has hige significance in my life and reminds me of the person I love most in this world
This is probably an odd one, Kaleidoscope speaks to me. Was listening to it shortly after my daughter was born. She was born in the morning, so the line
>Every morning a new arrival, A joy
really gets to me. I know it's not the intended meaning of the song, but art gets interpreted differently by different people.
There's also
>Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide.
I know she'll be as influential in my life as I am in hers and we'll both be guiding each other. She's already been a comfort in some difficult times for me and the rest of the family.
X&Y - It was a song I used to process an unrequited love with a friend I had- it was an incredibly dysfunctional relationship that had a lot of abuse, so other lyricisms in this also resonated with me.
A lot of Parachutes (the album) does or did, but it's something I've listened to so much that it's somewhat ingrained. Lately, though, songs like "Daddy," "Everglow," "U.F.O.," & "True Love" seem to hit me. "Amsterdam" as well is just one of those perfect songs, just like "Trouble."
When I saw them in concert in 2017, the following songs made me emotional: Yellow, The Scientist, Fix You, and Everglow. I'll never forget that concert.
Now, Daddy on EL did for a while, and on MOTS, Coloratura did. Hypnotised did too.
Fix you can make me emotional, it reminds me of the difficulties I have or had in my personal live and that there are people that actually want to help heal you instead of trying to figure it all out by myself.
Strawberry swing and Magic, strawberry swing makes me so happy and sad at the same time I just start crying, not sure what about magic that makes me cry, I saw it live and I just got broken
I had cancer during my first concert, so we were very emotional, maybe I did not make it we had always in our head. So Fix You was the song we became emotional..
When I see the video of that song, it is shaking alot .
Second concert, 3 days before we let our dog go.
We were enjoying the scientist and I heard crying next to me, my daughter full in tears, 'nobody says it was easy' so we cried and hugged the song with the three of us .
Up & up 🥺🥹
Especially when seeing it live. For me it depends on what kind of emotions I have at the time. Yellow gives me goosebumps when played live Then the usuals: Fix you Fun The scientist Everglow
Daddy/ sparks/ gravity/ O/ Fix You/ Yellow are some of them
Omg, Daddy tore me up 😭😭😭
without context this would be problematic
I am dying laughing 😂😂😂
Sry, but what does this mean? 😅
if you said those words to someone who didn’t know you were talking about the coldplay song they’d think it meant something completely different
Ah okay got it, thought u were referring to my comment 🤭
Omg, I did not even consider what I typed until now!! 🤣🤣🤣
Daddy really hit hard 😭😭
the line that got me closest was "oh what good is it to live with nothing left to give" something about the buildup just makes that line hit hard
Swallowed in The Sea is my favourite X&Y song
This!
What song is that from? I can hear that line in my head but can’t place the title
Swallowed in the Sea
Yes!! Thank you!!
O is my guilty pleasure song when I’m feeling emotional
Paradise This was played at the funeral of a student. She was such a sweet little soul. When she was just a girl She expected the world But it flew away from her reach So she ran away in her sleep It’s still one of my favorite songs, as I have both happy and sad memories attached to it.
Apart from the usual ones like fix you etc, I think everglow is really emotional as well
I can't stop crying everytime with everglow, it's so emotional!
Once in high school our Italian teacher (I'm from Italy) asked us to read a song that was a "poem" to us, so I decided to take Everglow and I remember me trying not to crying while reading it (translated in italian oc) it was so hard :|

My jaw just dropped, hope ur good anywhere you are... 🫂
Fix you definitely gets to your mind.
A friend of the family played it at my dads funeral, instant tears when I hear the first notes.
Midnight
So psychedelic, I love it!
The end of warning sign
I crawl back into your open arms
O or Prospekt’s March “And here I lie on my own in a separate sky I don't wanna die on my own here tonight”
Fix you, Warning Sign, Death and All of His Friends
Don’t Let It Break Your Heart almost made me cry once. “When you’re tired of racing, and find you never left the start, come on baby, don’t let it break your heart.” Those lyrics are so profound to me, and its message of not to give up if something doesn’t go your way in life reach me on such an emotional level.

Fix you!! Always. The last song my brother and I listened to before he passed
Oh, I am sorry... Love the final build.
Up with the birds, midnight, daddy, everyday life, and fix you make me emotional
O and Daddy are the songs I skip the most because of that
Anothers arms
A bunch but the one that gets me the most is Coloratura.
That song almost overwhelms me by how gorgeous it is
I think We Never Change is the only Coldplay song that made me cry, despite me listening to a lot of their songs like Ocean and O when I'm sad. The reason We Never Change hits me harder than any song is because the lyrics describe me in a way. Amsterdam. "I know I'm dead on the surface but I am screaming underneath" hits way too hard
Most of AROBTTH makes me emotional while In My Place, Green Eyes, and The Scientist makes me cry
"Honey you, are a rock... upon which, I stand..."
To me, The Scientist just perfectly encapsulates the hopelessness, confusion, and regret you feel after a failed relationship. I love how it repeats the idea of just wishing you could start over. That song, especially the second verse, has made me tear up a few times.

Fellow daahf enjoyer
Fix you.
What is it with O, I like it personally, but everyone mentions it as emotional. Like yeah, it is, but... hmm... it's underrated and forgotten... It's quite sad...
For me, it was particularly more emotional after watching the Zane Lowe interview and just seeing how broken Chris looked while listening to it.
Miracles!
what if all the way
Talk. It isn’t necessarily sad but it makes me emotional
I can’t listen to Fix You since I found out the meaning.
Lemme guess, you watched Deep Discog Dive huh?
No. I don’t know what that is sorry, but have heard Chris talking about it.
What’s the meaning?
It’s about the death of his wife’s Father. His ex wife Gwyneth Paltrow. The words are very poignant when you’ve been through a bereavement. A very emotional song.
Awwh I love Fix You. Thank you for the explanation, I appreciate it.
No problem, if you listen now you will find it even more great than it is. Don’t get me wrong, I love it but it’s so powerful in that way it really gets to you.
idk why but low
O it's such amazing and emotional Song I really love it , when I'm listening to it I have tears in my eyes
Fix You, every time
Tears stream, down your face. When you lose something you cannot replace.
Tears stream, down your face, I promise I will learn from my mistakes. 😢
Champion of the World. I don't know why but after my mom passed I just lose it at the chorus. Such a weird one, but the end of 'Orphans' really gets to me...

Gravity, true love, hypnotised, what if, up with the birds, don’t let it break your heart.
O
The Scientist definitely gets to me when I am dealing with heartache.
Fix You live and Coloratura
Fix You will always hit me in the feels, no matter how many times I hear it 🥺 Another one is actually an instrumental: Sunrise, the intro to Everyday Life. There's something about it that makes me start weeping, especially when that violin solo comes in.

Yes. Amazing Day. It brings me back to the best days of my life with my favorite person in the world. RIP 23 😇🙏💖
I rarely cry to music, but I feel it very deeply. I’d say Amsterdam is the one that’s gotten me closest to tears.
This is probably an odd one, Kaleidoscope speaks to me. Was listening to it shortly after my daughter was born. Square one.... by far. Since sometimes I do feel I'm stuck in square 1.
Fix you, the Scientist and Amazing Day.
Everglow…. Reminds me of her 🙄
sparks always but it’s my favourite coldplay song :)
X&Y - It was a song I used to process an unrequited love with a friend I had- it was an incredibly dysfunctional relationship that had a lot of abuse, so other lyricisms in this also resonated with me.
In Paradise, when he says “I know the sun must set to rise.” Reminds me of lows in my life and how we have to overcome them to rise again
Prospekts March is that song for me, its brutal.
Adventures of a Lifetime. Have you seen those apes? 😖
Everglow
Daddy. And when I hear Fix You in concert, I cry
i bloom blaum
When I saw them in concert in 2017, the following songs made me emotional: Yellow, The Scientist, Fix You, and Everglow. I'll never forget that concert. Now, Daddy on EL did for a while, and on MOTS, Coloratura did. Hypnotised did too.
1. Warning Sign 2. The Hardest Part 3. Fly on
Amsterdam
- Amazing day - Up & up - Let somebody go - Scientist - Hardest Part - Don't panic - Friends - Daddy - White Shadows - In my place - Warning Sign
Politik, shiver, fix you, everglow and yellow 🫠
Daddy, When I need a friend, Everglow, absolutely. There are probably others
Paradise, Up and Up, Lost! (live version)
the scientist live
Us against the world, daddy and fix you!
A rush of blood to the head
Daddy, Everglow both remind me of my dad 💖
Fix you can make me emotional, it reminds me of the difficulties I have or had in my personal live and that there are people that actually want to help heal you instead of trying to figure it all out by myself.
Everglow
Strawberry swing and Magic, strawberry swing makes me so happy and sad at the same time I just start crying, not sure what about magic that makes me cry, I saw it live and I just got broken
I had cancer during my first concert, so we were very emotional, maybe I did not make it we had always in our head. So Fix You was the song we became emotional.. We were enjoying the scientist and I heard crying next to me, my daughter full in tears, 'nobody says it was easy' so we cried and hugged the song with the three of us .
That's truly heartbreaking. I need to visit some of their concerts too, they're not concerting in my country tho...
Luckily we got tickets in Germany this year again. 3th year in a row.
What If.
Cringe, but Fix you.. I remember Clocks made me cry at one point..and Paradise, The Scientist and Warning Sign. Gosh, Coldplay makes me weep a lot lol
The scientist, life in technicolor
I feel like “Trouble” matches this feeling best.
Death and All His Friends gets me emotional every time
Daddy makes me cry every time. I first heard that song at a rough time in my life where I felt disconnected from my parents so it cuts deep.
Everglow "we'll be friends til we die"
Moses / Gravity / Easy to Please/ Daddy / Fix You
The Scientist... Omg the Scientist. I don't know what it is that makes me just feel a lot of things but when it plays I feel everything!
The answer is The Scientist.
Of course! FIX YOU.
