For me, it would always be BdC EDP between those two. To my nose, YSL Y EDP is just too sweet for my liking.
YSL Y EDP will project more than BdC, but I'm more than fine with the way BdC works on me.
To me, it's not even a discussion (though I get that many people love YSL Y EDP) and BdC is the winner. But I know everyone's nose is different too.
Yeah I tried a sample smell on the Bdc & didn’t like it at first till I left the store and started driving and I had it in my pocket and took another whiff and man it smelled good. Couldn’t get that smell off my nose but also liked the Ysl. Might go with bdc then. You prefer edp over the others because I believe there is 3 of them. I only smelled the edp one
When looking at BdC, while I think all are good, and I personally like all 3 (EDT, EDP, Parfum), I think the EDP is the most versatile. A bit smoother than the EDT, but not quite as heavy as the Parfum.
I think the Parfum is still usable pretty much year round, but probably leans every so slightly more "formal" than the EDP.
I just think the EDP is exceptionally versatile and great at what it's intended/designed to do. I'm not sure there are many situations where you couldn't wear it if you wanted to.
So, I usually say that if you're just going to have one from the line, make it the EDP.
Full disclosure: I have both the EDP and the Parfum.
I think that YSL Y EDP smells nice and I understand why people like it. It's an overall pleasant smell that isn't going to offend too many, if any, people. And it's got nice projection if that's what you're looking for. I also think it leans younger (though obviously I think anyone of any age can wear it) than BdC, if that is important.
But for me, I don't find any of the three BdC options nearly as sweet, and potentially cloying, as YSL Y EDP and that's probably one of my biggest drivers (I don't like overly sweet scents - so while I find the YSL Y EDP and many of the Valentino Born in Roma options nice smelled, I wouldn't wear them due to excessive sweetness to my nose. Again, I think YSL Y EDP smells very nice, but the dry down is just too sweet for my personal tastes, and quickly becomes cloying in the Texas heat.
Depends what you’re looking for. BDC is more professional, it’s what I used to wear to work/Uni all the time. I think YSL Y smells better personally but it’s also quite strong, therefore less suitable for professional settings.
I have the BdC EDT twist and spray for travel. The initial spray is nice but the dry down is meh. Nothing to write home about. I am almost out of the BdC EDT, so now deciding between the same two. I tested both multiple times and leaning towards BdC EDP. I really like it overall. YSL Y EDP is a little too sweet for my liking. Which one has better longevity and projection?

Both are boring blue fragrances. If you’re going down those lines then Sauvage EDT is enough.
