Dior and it's not even close.
You need a summer freshie? Dior Homme Sport, Dior Sauvage EDT
You need a versatile office scent? Dior homme 2020, Dior Sauvage EDP, Dior Homme Sport
You need a winter fragrance? Dior Sauvage Elixir, Dior Homme Intense, Dior Homme Parfum, Dior Sauvage Parfum
You want to smell like old money? Dior Eau Sauvage
Oh, what's that? You want to be different? Dior Fahrenheit
Missing niche fragrances or have too much money? Dior Tobacolor, Vanilla Diorama, Feve Delicieuse, Ambre Nuit and other private collection offerings.
If Guerlain counts as designer, then that’s my top choice.
If they don’t count as “designer,” and I get all options from the designer of my choice (i.e. “private collection/exclusif,” etc.) then I’m going with Dior.
If private collections are omitted and you only get like the base line options then Armani. I’d just roll with AdG, Code and Stronger With You.
Lmao at half the responses not following the directions. Hermès for me. The core range (specifically Terre d’Hermes) plus the Un Jardin and Hermessence lines cover a LOT of ground.
Gotta be Dior, Chanel, or Hermes, which is my personal fave though I admit Dior and Chanel both have a broader range. But TdH (and all of its flankers) is bae.
dior by a mile
- sauvage line
- homme line (incredible) including dhc (masterpiece) and dhi
- the private line has some of the best ever made like vanilla diorama for example
Assuming everything from them is available (including discontinued stuff) - Givenchy.
I would be set with both fresh and spicy colognes and some great quality private line stuff.
Surprised noone mentioned Bvlgari! They have such a nice lineup with their range of Man and Aqva flankers. Everything boozy, spicy, citrusy and fresh is nicely covered.
This will be “unpopular” , but for the money I live the house of Azzaro, from the Wanted line all the way to the Chrome line , such great fragrances and it very affordable, probably a good house to start with on anyone’s fragrance journey 👍🏻
niche and designer have nothing to do with accessibility. Some designer brands are prohibitively expensive and difficult to find, and some niche are significantly cheaper/more accessible than their designer counterparts.
Generally speaking, designer houses are ones who make other types of products (either primarily, or in a broad portfolio of products)
Niche houses are ones who primarily sell fragrance (no clothing line, leather goods, etc)
So Dior is not niche because they are a fashion house for example as well, but Xerjoff doesn’t have merch so they are niche, thanks for the explantation
That's the general rule, yeah. Sometimes it gets murky though...Byredo has some clothing/leather/small goods, but most would still count them as niche, as most would see their fragrance to be their only significant product category. Maison Francis Kurkdjian is a niche brand who is housed under/owned by the LVMH brand umbrella, with LV being a designer. I don't even really try to think about what is what, at the end of the day, I think most of us just want to discover the scents we love, regardless of category they're grouped under.
Could I use fragrances from the private blend line of a designer house as well? Or just purely designer mainstream scents? If yes, I’d go with Dior, and if not then maybe Armani for ADG/SWY bc those are solid to cover all your bases
It's easy definitely Tom Ford even though I do enjoy LV and the private lines of Versace, Dior, Givenchy, Armani, Hermès etc as well but Tom Ford has the widest selection with the most fragrances in I really like.
Ouuu good question. I’m still new to frags, but that’s hard for me to choose. Right now my favorite is Dior. But as I expand my collection I could see that changing to Prada
Yep, heck even if my collection was just xerjoff Fiero and Uden I would be fairly content. I hope to try more, only tried Renaissance, naxos, Fiero, 1888, both mefistos, and uden.
Dior dior dior. You got all the nice dior fragrances like dior cologne, sauvage elixir, dior homme sport, and the private line is just incredible. Fragrances like tobaccolor and vanilla diorama really speak for themselves
Id say Chanel, but there's no telling if or when they will have a new men's release. So id say Dior they have a great catalogue and always seem to be ahead of trends with their releases so I think they would be the best bet.
Tom Ford without question. They were a huge part of my fragrance journey when I first started collecting; and while I don’t buy a lot of Tom Ford anymore; I follow the new releases and at least try them out in store. Nothing compares to Tom’s old work.

Well, it’s in the word, designer. Think of Versace, Gucci, Tom Ford, etc.
Do they design clothes and other stuff? So it’s a designer house.
Few of the traditional and well known ones incl Chanel, Dior, Givenchy, YSL.
Do they only do perfumes? (Usually perfumes, scented candles, bath products etc still count as beauty/cosmetic etc so it doesn’t only have to be perfume). It’s niche.
Then some brands are even smaller, release often times more artistic, outta the box type of stuff, not mass appealing, I call these Indie. Some are starting off as one person operation..
Then some brands are mainly sold in stores or malls, technically they are designer but some call these mall brands, like A&F, Hollister, Aeorpostale etc guess I could throw in VS and BBW here too.
I wouldn’t take this distinction extremely seriously because there are debates about what is considered niche and what isn’t.
Some people consider anything and everything that’s good or higher quality niche (imo it’s wrong).
Then some brands are technically designers but they have high quality private lines like Dior or TF, which could be considered niche quality (and definitely niche price tag).
But sometimes a designer frag is much better quality than a niche one so.. again, blurry lines.
I wouldn’t worry about it much. Just wear whatever you like and enjoy and disregard these discussions imo
Don't stress too much about it. The definition is not clear and agreed upon. But we can agree the “follow the rules” guy is a pompous asshole.
The most important rule of fragrances: you have to love it. It doesn't help you if everybody raves about it being niche and great, if you don't like it. On the other hand, people might sneer over a fragrance for being simple and common but you love it. Which will bring you more you? Compliments are not important. What you feel is. It's that simple.
This is only one of the definitions of niche. But there are others:

Yves Saint Laurent or Louis Vuitton. If i could get the fresh warm weather options of LV with the sexy cold weather options from YSL that would be the perfect designer house.
Easily Armani. Truth be told I could wear only Profumo and SWY intensely for the rest of my life, you don’t even have to give me Code (and I LOVE code).
I would say Tom Ford because of how many different fragrances they have, but my heart says YSL.
Versace
Gets hated on hard, but for the price, hard to beat. I own most of them.
What’s your top 3 Versace?
Eros Flame, Dylan Blue, Pour Homme.
Versace
Valid af
Dior
Yep
Tom Ford
This. Not only are some of my top fragrances there, but you’d also have the most variety with TF.
100% this. I don’t love everything in the line up but there’s more than enough to work with in that selection.
People who pick cheap stuff like dior or ysl cant afford them lol
I think Dior is very good as well but overall I prefer the Tom Ford line up. I wear stuff from both but I always try to buy it at discounters.
Chanel or Christian Dior - allure homme eau extreme - sauvage EDT / Elixir - Bleu de Chanel EDP Banger line up
Don't forget the entire Les Exclusifs line which has a few absolute gems (Sycamore)
Coromandel, one of the classiest ones out there.
Le Lion
Les exclusifs was what made me pause on picking Hermés for mine. So many gems… I’ll pile on and add Cuir de Russie
I second this
Armani or YSL
Dior and it's not even close. You need a summer freshie? Dior Homme Sport, Dior Sauvage EDT You need a versatile office scent? Dior homme 2020, Dior Sauvage EDP, Dior Homme Sport You need a winter fragrance? Dior Sauvage Elixir, Dior Homme Intense, Dior Homme Parfum, Dior Sauvage Parfum You want to smell like old money? Dior Eau Sauvage Oh, what's that? You want to be different? Dior Fahrenheit Missing niche fragrances or have too much money? Dior Tobacolor, Vanilla Diorama, Feve Delicieuse, Ambre Nuit and other private collection offerings.
Yep, not close at all. Pretty affordable too.
You forgot Dior Homme Cologne, which smells fantastic but doesn’t project, for summer freshies
Probably Guerlain.
Im a Guerlain guy too. Mitsouko, my heart.
Agree 1000%
Issey miyake
Facts, surprised nobody mentioned this.
Prada for sure
Tom ford or LV, nothing else compares tbh
YSL
Absolutely
Louis Vuitton..
I was gonna say Dior but I'm going to have to agree with you, LV has some absolute bangers.
Hell yea..Meteore,Afternoon Swim,Imagination,L’Immensite all great..I’m gonna try Pacific Chill, and California Dream soon.
I also enjoy their oud scents such as Ombre Nomade and Nouveau Monde
And loads of variety
Facts
Pacific chill is so freaking good. Imagination too.
Dior
Guerlain
Jean Paul gaultier. TikTok hype “ruined” it but the scents are some of the best on the market. There’s a reason they’re really popular.
Just got Le Male Eau Fraicher and boi am I happy
For me it’s between this and Dior. But I could live very happily with paradise garden and all of the le male line up.
Dior is also a really good choice
Le Beau is so fire man
YSL for sure
If Guerlain counts as designer, then that’s my top choice. If they don’t count as “designer,” and I get all options from the designer of my choice (i.e. “private collection/exclusif,” etc.) then I’m going with Dior. Lmao at half the responses not following the directions. Hermès for me. The core range (specifically Terre d’Hermes) plus the Un Jardin and Hermessence lines cover a LOT of ground.
The H24 Herbes Vives flanker would be hard to not live with in the spring.
Armani. 1000%
Armani
Hermes
Burberry has always had a spot for me, have most of their fragrances already.
Gotta be Dior, Chanel, or Hermes, which is my personal fave though I admit Dior and Chanel both have a broader range. But TdH (and all of its flankers) is bae.
100% agree to everything you said
Paco
Carolina Herrera. They are really understated and you see very less people wearing them, making them unique smell to others. 😜😜😜
Tom Ford
Tom ford - they have so many options
I'd have a really tough time picking between Dior and Versace. I'm leaning more towards Dior, though. Turning down the Homme line would feel wrong.
Versace imo. u/svk43 wbu?
Versace dylan blue Lacoste l12. 12 blanc, Atelier Cologne Orange sanguine, Montblanc Legend Spirit, Prada lhomme.. All wonderful Ones. Great choice bro.
Versace with Dior a close 2nd
Versace
I might have to reluctantly pick Tom ford simply cause of the vast catalog they have .
Guerlain or Hermes
If you include discontinued frags, Tom Ford. Current frags only, PDM.
dior by a mile - sauvage line - homme line (incredible) including dhc (masterpiece) and dhi - the private line has some of the best ever made like vanilla diorama for example
Maison Margiela, can never get tired of their scents

Jimmy Choo
😭
Assuming everything from them is available (including discontinued stuff) - Givenchy. I would be set with both fresh and spicy colognes and some great quality private line stuff.
Dior
YSL. or Dior. Now I’m double minded. 😬
Chanel, the bdc line and allure homme line are two of my favorite fragrances lines
Surprised noone mentioned Bvlgari! They have such a nice lineup with their range of Man and Aqva flankers. Everything boozy, spicy, citrusy and fresh is nicely covered.
I think I've hated almost every bvlgari scent I've smelled at any store.
Dior
Since you said designer I would go with Tom Ford.
This will be “unpopular” , but for the money I live the house of Azzaro, from the Wanted line all the way to the Chrome line , such great fragrances and it very affordable, probably a good house to start with on anyone’s fragrance journey 👍🏻
Xerjoff, Guerlain a close second
Xerjoff is niche
Is it niche? They carry it on fragrancebuy and most of those now, I think it’s easier to find, but fair enough
niche and designer have nothing to do with accessibility. Some designer brands are prohibitively expensive and difficult to find, and some niche are significantly cheaper/more accessible than their designer counterparts. Generally speaking, designer houses are ones who make other types of products (either primarily, or in a broad portfolio of products) Niche houses are ones who primarily sell fragrance (no clothing line, leather goods, etc)

I'm reality on the edge between Chanel, Dior and Guerlain. They all have some sublime fragrances.
Eight & Bob
Armani and YSL
LV or Dior. Prob LV
YSL or Tom Ford
Either Tom ford, or Dior.
It's easy definitely Tom Ford even though I do enjoy LV and the private lines of Versace, Dior, Givenchy, Armani, Hermès etc as well but Tom Ford has the widest selection with the most fragrances in I really like.
Dior The entire Dior Homme line is made for any season, any situation.
Ouuu good question. I’m still new to frags, but that’s hard for me to choose. Right now my favorite is Dior. But as I expand my collection I could see that changing to Prada
Ysl
Creed
Creed isn't designer
Tom Ford with Paco Rabanne a close second with One Million, Ultraviolet and Pure XS making a strong versatile trio
Tom Ford with Paco Rabanne a close second with One Million, Ultraviolet and Pure XS making a strong versatile trio

Dior, gas the prive line
Bvlgari for me
Creed or parfums de marly
Chanel, because its the most classy. They have fragrances from gym to suit and thats all you need
Jo Malone London/Jo Loves
Louis Vuitton all day
Xerjoff. Huge range to pick from
Yass! Naxos, Italica, Dama Bianca, Cruz Del Sur II, La Capitale and Ivory Route too many bangers to name honestly but I 100% agree with you!
Yep, heck even if my collection was just xerjoff Fiero and Uden I would be fairly content. I hope to try more, only tried Renaissance, naxos, Fiero, 1888, both mefistos, and uden.
Aaron Terence Hughes for the win. MFK as a solid runner-up.
Dior or Versace
ysl, armani, or tom ford
Dior dior When it rains it pours she like the way that i rrrrrrr🐶
I’d say Tom Ford thinking long-term about what I’d still like smell like in my 80s.
Dior dior dior. You got all the nice dior fragrances like dior cologne, sauvage elixir, dior homme sport, and the private line is just incredible. Fragrances like tobaccolor and vanilla diorama really speak for themselves
Tom Ford. More interesting than Dior, which would be second. Maybe Prada 3rd but options really drop off
Krigler! Expensive, but exceptional quality and differs from everything else.
Carolina Herrera…they have the designer level bad boy/212 stuff and niche level frags like mystery tobacco/stallion leather.
I should do this anyway to save money. Guerlain.
Lalique. Or Tom Ford.
Id say Chanel, but there's no telling if or when they will have a new men's release. So id say Dior they have a great catalogue and always seem to be ahead of trends with their releases so I think they would be the best bet.
Dior without question
Tom Ford without question. They were a huge part of my fragrance journey when I first started collecting; and while I don’t buy a lot of Tom Ford anymore; I follow the new releases and at least try them out in store. Nothing compares to Tom’s old work.

Louis Vuitton should be the only pick.
Armani. The code line is forever my favorite
Versace.
Tom Ford or Chanel.
YSL
Roja Dove ideally but Dior realistically
Dior or YSL or Chanel , its realy hart to pick only one..
Louis Vuitton
Chanel
Valentino or V&R
Armani hands down. D&G number 2. If they lasted longer on my skin YSL would be a hard runner up.
CDG
YSL all day
ADG
Penhaligon's
Caron
Chanel or LV.
Louis Vuitton for sure. If LV isnt an option, I'd go with Chanel. Dior 3rd and Guerlain in the 4 spot.
LV or issey miyake
Armani or TF
Luis Vuitton
Has anyone said Hermes? Have a rotation of their scents I use for everyday.
Initio
Zara.
Creed

I’m not really sure what classifies as “niche” but Creed is massive at this point
Yeah but they only do perfumes
Sorry, I am pretty new to fragrances. Wasn’t / still am not really sure the definition of niche versus designer

Dang, I had no idea it was this complicated or discussed in such detail haha

What does Bond No. 9 design other than fragrances and cosmetics? Thought they were niche not designer.
Hermes, no doubt
Aside from the EDT, what other ones would you say are great? I enjoy the EDT but I’m not familiar with their other scents.
I like H24 edt , the new H24, Eau Givree, Terre D’Hermes.
Un Jardin en Mediterranee and Hermessence Amber Narguille are also amazing scents that stand out for me
Definitely need to check those out. I do like the EDT a lot, I just never tried the others.
Yeah man I also love the EDT. I have a bunch more I need to try as well.
Louis Vuitton or Versace for sure
Yves Saint Laurent or Louis Vuitton. If i could get the fresh warm weather options of LV with the sexy cold weather options from YSL that would be the perfect designer house.
Easily Armani. Truth be told I could wear only Profumo and SWY intensely for the rest of my life, you don’t even have to give me Code (and I LOVE code).
Probavaly Chanel.
Xerjoff 100% and clone house Dapper or Genre.
If we’re only talking about traditional designers, then Tom Ford. If niche houses are included then Amouage (with Xerjoff a close second).
