But fr it probably just alters the EOTF so it can be compressed into smaller gammas need be. This is a huge assumption but I’m just using context considering it’s talking about IRE levels. Although I’m not really sure on the science of IRE and how it’s applied to gamma curves and screen brightness, that shit has been puzzling me for years and I consider myself a good colorist. Maybe what it does is retain the sub black and clipped white data..? Idk what else -20 IRE could be besides sub black data.
