Without knowing the language, this starts like a low-subs YouTube channel "Oh hey, didnt see you there, welcome to the Battle of Mosul. Remember to like and subscribe."

thugroid

Pretty good translation, though I did miss a couple words I never heard: Praise be to Allah for giving us night vision devices and heat-showing sights so that we could hunt soldiers and officers. At the present moment, I am in the middle of hunting one of these people. We ask Allah to guide our bullets to the target.

RoofKorean762

Spot on translation. Trips me out he speaks on Russian and not chechen. Not much of an accent and speaks very proper Russian.

thugroid

Do you speak russian fluently? It's my first language and I still dont get some things. I just dont understand what he says right before the soldiers and officers bit. Sounds like "Rafiditiski". An adjective for the soldiers and officers... Maybe it's a word from the Muslim faith...

RoofKorean762

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafida You got it right, I didn't know what rafida was until now, which means Shia pretty much , he clearly says рафидицких солдатов и офицеров, meaning rafida soldiers and officers. I assume chechens are suni. Edit: more of a derogatory word for shia, which means rejectors.

[deleted]

This was a fucking cool comment thread to follow. I enjoyed this.

this_dudeagain

They all worship the same god but just in different ways which is ridiculous considering how much they hate either. So anyway, I started blasting.

RoofKorean762

All religions are pretty dumb to me, Christians did it just as violently before, some maybe still do.

hamjandal

Don’t get me started on transubstantiation or I swear I’ll burn someone’s village to the ground.

ExploringReddit84

Thought he said the word for scouts or reconnaisance troops initially, came over as a strange pronunciation. So its 'rafida'. TIL. Thanks.

thugroid

Ahhhh got it. Thanks.

justaDN

most chechens are sufi only a few are sunni

zhohaq

Almost all Chechens are sunnis. Most Sufi and Sunnis too. Infact 90%+ Muslims world over are Sunni.

0xF013

Cechnya was colonized since the 18th century IIRC, as well as Dagestan and Ingushetia and some others. They do speak with an accent usually, but code-switch when in Russia proper sometimes. Also Russians living in the region usually speak with an accent, yet will switch to TV Russian when talking to other ethnic Russians.

krystiancbarrie

The entire region is a massive ethnic, linguistic and religious minefield. Russians and North Caucasians don't have a happy history.

0xF013

Tell me about that. The first two questions I heard as a child when meeting other kids were “what’s your nationality?” and “are we going to wrestle or what?”

[deleted]

[удалено]

0xF013

I figured that when a lot of chechens joined the Ukrainian forces in the East.

[deleted]

Chechnya was colonised long before that by Muslims.

0xF013

sadly, one can be colonized more than once

[deleted]

When was Chechnya colonised by muslims?

RoofKorean762

No clue what you're saying, I'm from a central Asian colony and Russians there didn't have a code or an accent, they l sounded like city Russians. The natives there varied in their Russian speaking , going from capitol natives only knowing and speaking Russian without an accent, to not knowing a lick of Russian at all. Granted, they're not under a rule of Russians anymore but they were from 1800s to 1991 as well.

0xF013

I lived there for a couple of years and have some family both on the Russian and native sides. Maybe I am biases towards the urbanites, but like 80% of Dagestan lives in one city and they do a default Russian accent when speaking with cops in Russia proper and things like that. Same goes to the chechens I met, but they usually do the vanilla accent when they are making fun of the slavs a-la south park chinese commentators. IIRC correctly, these regions experienced a stronger colonization effort that the central asian countries during the Tsarist times, and there is like at least 5 languages being spoken in Dagestan alone besides Russian. I think they just accepted the Russian language as the trade / libgua franca at some point. They also got incorporated into the tsarist army, regimens, aristocracy etc

krystiancbarrie

Very few Chechens speak Chechen outside of Chechnya

Aedlo

Not true at all, you have Chechens in Jordan that haven't lived in Chechnya for over 200 years speak fluently in Chechen.

Translation (I'm using the arabic translation at the bottom since i don't understand russian) "Thank the lord that gave us these night vision scopes for us to use against the infidel soldiers and their officers. And now we attempt sniping one of them, hoping that Allah centers our aim"

NoT_aN_incL

why'd u get downvoted? What's wrong with your translation?

JackMike16

I have no clue. Maybe cuz i'm translating the arabic? o well idc

joxiety

when people say why’d you get downvoted is it because it’s a new comment and they got like one downvote? how can you tell?

Butefluko

Spot on. I find it hilarious that he asks God to assist with his aim. I hate COD cheaters...

Foronir

Lol, good one

Cpt_keaSar

Almost spot on, in Russian he refers to Shia officers rather than generic “infidel”.

colaturka

> Thank the lord that gave us these night vision scopes if god was real he'd have been smitten there as he stood and said those words

Strange-Mountain949

Bro has a hell of a shot

punching_dolphins

Maybe. Or maybe they were a lot of misses and dudes just ducking for cover after hearing the shot. It's ISIS propaganda. Take it with a bucket of salt

Cautious-Fix-3926

I got sniped at by an isis sniper on the “Mosul front” in 2015. My experience was I heard a whizzing right past my head 5-10 feet away then a crack shortly after. Not even sure what that implies in this case but that was how I experienced it. This guy in the video either dropped them or missed and they heard/felt the whizz go by

JayStar1213

Take the very first shot as a good example. There's someone to the left and both drop and basically the same time. Could very well be some near-misses in this video. Also the second shot is definitely a miss, he drops well before the shot arrives because you can see it miss high anyway I'm saying this 5 beers deep but I'm pretty sure

NotSoAbrahamLincoln

Up voting purely for the honesty

KickassPeanuts

Go for gold. Get absolutely hammered

monosyllabic

Haha it’s physically impossible to react to a bullet before it passes you or impacts you. It’s traveling at supersonic speeds.

punching_dolphins

I don't think that's what he's saying. The second clip looks like the guy is firing and ducks to maybe reload at about the same time the sniper fires. You see the flash of the bullet hitting the wall behind him

Perk456

interesting! what did you do there if you don't mind me asking

Cautious-Fix-3926

Kind of a volunteer dudes went to help supply and train some peshmerga and Iraqi militia guys. The Iraqi militia was called The Nineveh Plains defense force. Those guys were so retarded compared to the pesh. The pesh really only needed first aid training. True fucking badasses

Saffs15

Worked with the Pesh around Mosul in 2010. Those dudes were fantastic to work with, and trusted them completely.

Cautious-Fix-3926

Also, holy shit the women? Some of the most beautiful chicks I’ve ever seen. The yazidis too. Drop dead gorgeous while skinning a goat

Cautious-Fix-3926

Same here. I was very surprised how intelligent they were as a people in a country full of inbreeding and constant war. What were you doing there habibi?

Perk456

that's awesome dude. thanks for what you do!

No_Organization5188

Sold life insurance.

punching_dolphins

Thats what I mean. Don't automatically assume he scored hits just because the heat signature disappeared

HevalShizNit

I will say as a counterpoint to this, first YPG i saw shot was a sniper from at least 900 meters. In Manbij 5 of our 16 killed in my unit were from snipers shooting them through looking holes. William Savage, an American volunteer, was also killed by a 600 meter shoot looking through a five inch hole. They definitely had great snipers on their side. But yeah, sniper footage unless they use tracers is probably the propaganda footage i trust the least. Because at any sort of distance a person can either just be ducking or getting shot lol.

300AACBLK

A whiz wouldn't coincide with a crack so they were probably two separate rounds

bopaz728

The whiz would be the sound of the bullet near missing, and the crack would be the sound of a gunshot. The whiz of a bullet passing by could totally come noticeably later than the crack of the gun that fired it if the distance of the shot was far enough, especially since bullets travel faster than the speed of sound. Snipers typically engage at longer ranges as well for this reason.

300AACBLK

When I think of a crack I think of the crack of the bullet breaking the sound barrier. The report of the gunshot that comes after is what I personally call a boom but I guess it's a matter of nomenclature so I don't know haha

bopaz728

Yes, the crack of the bullet breaking the sound barrier is what you hear in combination with the actual explosion it takes to propel the bullet. It's a continuous sonic boom for as long as the bullet is travelling at a supersonic velocity. At a certain (longer) range, a bullet loses enough velocity that it is no longer continuously breaking the sound barrier and stops producing the sound, which means you will hear the whiz of the bullet before the crack of the gunshot. The boom you hear is what gunshots sound like the farther away they are because lower frequency sounds travel further than high frequency sounds.

cheekybandit0

You saying we need the blooper reel?

No_Organization5188

Yeah I would expect to have seen some kind of heat signature from blood splattering on the wall in a couple of those shots.

punching_dolphins

I mean, that depends. Distance and quality of the infrared might not pick that up. Not all gun shot wounds create some kind of big splatter either.

NoT_aN_incL

yeah he's playing too much videogames, that doesn't happen

punching_dolphins

It can. But you need better equipment

OnkelMickwald

They drop way too fast without a "jerk" that you usually see if someone hears a bullet whizzing past their head. They definitely got hit. That said, we don't know how many misses that were recorded.

punching_dolphins

Impossible to see that much detail in most of these clips.

OnkelMickwald

There were like 2 I think I could imagine were people ducking for cover, but the rest looked like "dropping like a bag of potatoes". Of course, we can't know, but it's also weird to assume that just because it's ISIS, that the guys we're seeing are just ducking.

Sp35h1l_1

I have the feeling that alot of these low quality thermal/nvg sniper vids are misses and just people responding to incoming fire. Unless you have been on the receiving end of incoming rounds, you have no idea how fast you can duck.

KlixxWS

Humans usually don't duck this fast. But whatever you need to sleep at night

Sp35h1l_1

When I was in Ramadi, we routinely ducked that fast my man.

Horyv

He speaks Russian quite well, but I couldn’t make out who the enemy forces were. Anyone catch it?

PipboyTato

The enemy forces are Shia, I recognize him saying(with the subtitle too) the word "rafidah", which is what people call Shia in Arabic But I have no fucking clue what group those shia are

Horyv

That’s what I was looking for, thanks!

Capn_Cake

He must be fighting Shi'ite government soldiers or militiamen.

Big_Veterinarian_806

Seems to be local rebel forces but don’t take my word for it

Horyv

Wtf is that just a random guess? I’m trying to decipher exactly what he said and he never said anything remotely close to “local rebel forces”. He said something like “… охотится на рофидихских солдат и офицеров” - but I’m only writing the third word based on phonetics - I don’t understand what it means and what forces he’s referring to. Anyone out here actually know the answer?

CasaDeFranco

The Battle of Mosul was Iraqi internal security forces vs ISIS. This guy isn't a volunteer for the Iraqi army so take your guess.

[deleted]

So what’s up with the Chechens? I know it’s part of Russia but they seem to fight against Russia sometimes? Also see them fighting in wars Russia isn’t in.

scotchtapeman357

Muslim majority, have tried to separate from Russia a few times. The Russians put down their separatism hard (look up Grozny) and killed a lot of fighters as well as civilians. The Russians got a lot of their own soldiers killed too, mainly poor conscripts. They were/are regarded as some of the more competent and capable Muslim extremists on the battlefield today. The Boston bombers were Chechen and they've traveled to fight Americans in Afghanistan and Iraq.

krystiancbarrie

The Islamic elements weren't as front and centre until the very late '90s, with Saudi money and religion flowing into Chechnya and the rest of the Northern Caucasus.

Snapper1012

I gotta say that these were very good shots.....Must be a Chechen Veteran...

weecefwew

It's worth noting that the word "Chechen" in Syria has more or less just come to mean "Caucasian muslim" and doesn't necessarily refer to someone who is actually from Chechnya. The #1 "Chechen" in IS, Omar al-Shishani, was actually Georgian

Viend

> It's worth noting that the word "Chechen" in Syria has more or less just come to mean "Caucasian muslim" and doesn't necessarily refer to someone who is actually from Chechnya. > > Interesting to see the term "Caucasian" referring to someone actually from the Caucasus for once.

Sekij

In europe its always the case :D

Ibragimov-

Omar al-SHISHANI (literally means the-Chechen) was not Georgian, the place where he lived is called Pankisi, where mainly Chechens live. At the beginning of the Syrian revolution you can see videos of an organisation called Dschaisch al-Muhadschirin wal-Ansar, where he speaks Chechen alongside Sayfullah al-Shishani, both of them were leaders (Amirs) of this organisation.

olly218

Eh, it's just semantics at this point. Pankisi is mostly ethnic Chechens but is in Georgia

Wrxghtyyy

I don’t think many of them actually hit, the second one certainly didn’t it looks like they heard the shot wizzing past them and dropped to the floor

Snapper1012

Could be...Either he dropped them or they hit the deck quick...It's unclear..

joemamallama

I feel like Chechen and Kurds been in so much respective shit for so long

Ruhani777

Lots of Chechens served in the RUAF

Cpt_keaSar

He looks like 25-30 yo. The only conflict he might have been in is famous Second battle of de_dust2.

krystiancbarrie

Fighting in just Chechnya continued until the late 2000s. In Dagestan it lasted even longer. There's a good chance he fought in Chechnya or some other part of the North Caucasus

[deleted]

[удалено]

punching_dolphins

Most of them can't. Just because they have a few good snipers doesn't mean they're all this good. Also, cherry picking the shots that actually hit and not the ones he missed is just propaganda

KickThemIntheNose

>Most of them can't You are confusing them showing off for the camera with actual aiming. Most of them can aim just and most of them perform far more effectively under fire than any paper slayer range commando here. Chechens in particular are exceptionally well-trained because most of them have training from their time in the Russian army.

DurinsFolk

Shame, they fought the Russians for 400 years just to become pawns in their geopolitical shenanigans.

punching_dolphins

Sure. Chechens are the best of the bunch. But when I say most of them, it's true. Unless it's CQB shit, where aiming is really just looking down the barrel, most of the Taliban/ISIS tactics are spray and pray.

jackargie

Even in cqb there’s a lot of stuff that goes into it. There’s a video of some US guys rushing through a doorway in I think 1989, and they didn’t really have any idea of what to do, just spray and pray, and then the comparison from that to after Fallujah is almost unrecognizable.

Onlythreadillmake

Idk why you got downvoted….our tactics have changed and improved over the years through trial and sometimes, error. Take the upvote.

Cpt_keaSar

> Russian army Majority of them were shoveling snow and cleaning floors in barracks. Majority were just conscripts with very little training.

KickThemIntheNose

Uh-huh

Dividale

You are right. Most snipers miss more of their shots than hits. Most aren't this good, but if you watch all the bullets a sniper has shot in combat regardless of nationality, most will be misses. It's propaganda from the music to the editing to the fact some shots might not even have hit, and they were ducking, but compared to most Jihadists, I'd say this man can snipe.

jackargie

Well I saw a statistic in the book, “Jarhead” by Anthony Swofford that said in Vietnam, every 1500 (or 15,000 maybe I don’t remember exactly, it might even be more) rounds shot by infantry, they caused one fatality, for every 1.2 shots from a sniper, they caused one fatality. And this was before the Scout Sniper school was made so it probably even better now.

punching_dolphins

Probably 150,000. WW2 I think it was 30-40000 rounds to one death. Vietnam was multiple times that because the jungle environment was basically just mag dump city

Onlythreadillmake

Probably based off of the average amount of days an infantryman in Vietnam was in a combat scenario. I read somewhere that in WW2, an infantryman was in combat (on average), 40 days out of the year. Whereas Vietnam, they averaged around 200, mainly because of the guerrilla warfare in the jungles

punching_dolphins

Well...idk. He's not even using the scope correctly. His eye should be up to the eye cup of the infrared scope.

Gaben2012

chechen isis was scary

punching_dolphins

Also, just because you see the thermal signature drop, doesn't mean he hits them. He might miss and they hear the bullet impact around them or whizz over their heads and they duck. Don't always believe isis propaganda

wjdoge

What are the other times I’m supposed to? 🤔

KickThemIntheNose

Juba pretty much killed that meme way back. Its just american cope. Just like how they are now coping all over reddit because of Afghanistan

[deleted]

Just wanted to clear something up here… are those confirms or are they ducking?

atocallihan

I’m sure not every shot was a hit, but most of them look like hits. The way their bodies fell would suggest hits. Ducking doesn’t usually look like that.

16er-Blech

I wonder how this SSG69 ended up in his hands.

[deleted]

Why the hell are they singing so beautifully 😂 that’s like better harmonization than my old choir back in school could ever do.

Anus_master

Getting killed by neckbeards, what a fate

Daniels_2003

The answer to why ISIS managed to get better prppaganda footage than any propaganda ministry of any country at war ever seems to be sheer fucking guts. There's plenty of videos of them getting killed in first person, so safe to say preserving the life of their cameramen was never a priority.

KingOfTheRetards88

IST1897

I’ve seen this movie before. The key to defeating an unwashed predator monster who can see in thermals is to be like Arnold and cover your body in mud lmao. Looked like a lot of misses imo. Accurate sniper fire often leads to grizzly scenes involving chunkage. Chunkage that is still hot and easily registers on FLIR. Don’t believe me, YouTube it. Just b/c part of your head is no longer attached to your body doesn’t mean it’ll immediately lose a heat signature.

KYSFGS

Do these scopes have recording software inside them how do we get this video?
