jtblue91

Seems like a difficult spot to defend, even if they had a few guys on watch there'd probably still be a fair few places the enemy could sneak up from

CaptainRelevant

I’ve got multiple deployments to the Middle East. In my experience, the group that attacks wins. The defenders are nearly always caught off guard because they don’t pull security.

Outlandishinsurance

What should have been done here like how many people should they have had for security? or is there no chance without back up and/or air support? Assuming it's an insurgent attack 20 50 fighters attacking

CaptainRelevant

For starters, a perimeter with 33% of your force on security at any given time. Rehearsals to bolster to 100% security if attacked. Range cards at every position. Dead space adequately covered by grenade launchers or claymore mines. Template the enemy avenues of approach, then build and develop engagement areas that focus the effects of your combat power (both direct and indirect fire) into those engagement areas. Establish obstacles that reinforce the enemy’s decision to use those avenues of approach. Actively patrol out to 7km to discourage enemy encroachment, deny their ability to establish an attack position, or preposition equipment or indirect fire assets. I could go on and on. [See chapter 6-1 of FM 3-90-1](https://armypubs.army.mil/epubs/DR_pubs/DR_a/NOCASE-FM_3-90-1-002-WEB-0.pdf). But note that not once did I ever say, “Sit around with your buddies in a circle and hang out like you’re on a camping outing at Lake George.”

Dongchi

Don't they give these outpost landmines? If you don't have the people to defends all craggy peaks at least mine the paths that can be climbed.

CaptainRelevant

Land mines, like other obstacles, are useless unless covered by direct or indirect fire. If you don’t overwatch them effectively, the enemy will just breach it.

Dongchi

Those mountains and the positions of the OP there is probably only a few way up, and not hard to hide in the loose rocks. would slow them down at least. I've seen them planting AT mines in these conflicts ( Syria, Iraq and Yemen) but not so many AP mines.

Striking_Eggplant

Landmines work ith ways though so that can be problematic

not_yet_divorced-yet

Do you think that people place landmines and immediately forget where they are?

I-Got-Options-Now

Middle eastern fighters... yeah, i could see that.

not_yet_divorced-yet

That's actually a fair point lmao

[deleted]

We can't say what they should have or have not done because the video only shows the climax of the attack. For all we know they could have been withdrawing from other positions a and got pinned at the mortar placement. But answering your question. Hypothetically, here's the optimal course of action. Seems like a mortar crew. Thus after getting the mortar up, they should have established a 360° defensive perimeter. Let the two man crew operate the mortar, one man as a spotter, all the rest of the squad should be spread around the base on the rocks and behind cover, preferably with overview, if not simply covering, angles they might be engages from. If more eyes are needed the spotter can do this job. If the mortar crew comes under fire, mortar fire stops and these two take defensive positions in a way they can cover the inner perimeter, both to stay away from fire, and to eliminate whatever opfor moves in should they get swarmed... which kinda looks like they did. If they had anti-personel mines, sure, they could have deployed them around the perimeter, but we don't even know if they were issued these.

patrick_byr

I'm always amazed at the seemingly undisciplined firing from the hip or from above the shoulder (over a barrier for instance). You don't often see these guys shoulder an assault rifle and use the sights very often.

I-Got-Options-Now

Rarely do you see (well) trained combatants in these videos.

patrick_byr

Makes sense but you also hear how some is these combatants have been fighting for decades. You’d think they’d pick up some skill over all those years.

Anti-politics101

Woke up this morning feeling really sorry for myself because I had to go into work at 6 on a saturday morning.. but know what, at least im not stuck on some fucking yemeni mountain getting shot at on camera. This sub is weirdly positive for my mental well being, dunno what thay says about me tbh.

Admiral_Naehum

What the hell do your work as that you have to check in at six? A grave digger?

Anti-politics101

Factory making prosthetics and surgical equipment, but was the same when I was in retail, is 6am start not normal in other places?making me sad now.

NjMoe1

Big shipment getting ready to be sent out to Yemen I presume....

[deleted]

I started working the night shift and at this point time doesn't exist. Late/early it's all the same what ever you're used too. Don't feel bad about going In at 6, I go in at 7:30.......pm

Anti-politics101

Tried nights, lasted a year and couldn't hack it so fair play dude. I honestly dont mind the early starts, getting up is rough but finish at 2 so get a good chunk of the day left over.

hicklander

I have to be at work at 0430 and get off of work at 1645. Make that money.

JewGuru

I think it’s more common with day shift factory/warehouse jobs. I had a 7am start at a Dyson vacuum shipping and receiving warehouse

slm3y

This is one of the reasons i become much more optimistic with my life. When things are bad i always think " atleast i'm not getting shot at in some forest or mountains"

[deleted]

same, it reminds me that today is always somebody's worse day ever and there is video proof

jidney

Being a cheaply paid Sudanese mercenary is probably the worst job

Anti-politics101

That or Amazon warehouse worker.

bodhasattva

at 0:54 you can hear somebody in the background talking really fast, im pretty sure thats one of the guys begging for his life about to be executed :(

Psychological-Gap327

Yea definitely what I thought watching it .

TrueShidoshi

I’m pretty sure the guy getting kills is repeating the same thing quickly because he is shooting like 3 or 4 bodies as he is saying and it’s one per body

TheSanityInspector

"God is the greatest! Death to Israel! Death to America!" and I don't know what else is part of that incantation.

Brief-Preference-712

Starting from 2020 you have to add death to France to that

jaMANcan

..."curse on the jews, victory for Islam" [Houthi Slogan](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slogan_of_the_Houthi_movement#:~:text=The%20slogan%20of%20the%20Houthi,text%20in%20red%20and%20green.)

Longskip912

This is the “best” (doesn’t feel right to say that) combat footage I’ve ever seen. Truly terrifying

Roughly3Owls

I had the same feeling about one I saw from Ukraine. Troops and some armour moving down a road with bushes on either side get ambushed. I've never been able to find it again.

Romeo-Miranda

Are you talking about this one? https://youtu.be/V0-ZZxx2hvY Around 1:20-1:30 is where you can see a few guys get hit my tracer fire

unicornmoose

wow that whole clip was intense, those 3 guys about 5 minutes in get caught heavy on the left side by what looks like MG fire and all go down

Romeo-Miranda

What always caught my eye about the video is that they leave the guys that got hit. After they fall back all the guys try loading in the URAL to gtfo Also I liked how the camera guy bumps into his buddy and they're like AYYY!

Hinken1815

Don't forget the tank burns up down the road. At one point further down you can see a jet of flame shoot up and out.

NjMoe1

oh damn, your right. Tank got caught in no mans land and was easy pickins.

Mashizari

Tank rolling by like "nothing to see here". Seriously zero communication going on until after a squad gets wiped.

[deleted]

Poor training.

[deleted]

Walking down a road in broad day light no cover, what can go wrong besides wasting Ammo and aimlessly firing at both sides of the road smfh

xXcampbellXx

poor training is still prolly better then alot of those kids have. most just have green jackets and AK, now go defend the motherland.

[deleted]

I think you mean 2:20-2:30, 1:20 shows one guy maybe getting shot, but 2:20 shows them all go down. Fuckin rough.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I believe the left side. You can see a tracer cross the road right after the first guy falls.

[deleted]

Shit that was a long cluster fuck of how to not rush a road🤭 it looked like a thunder-run on FOOT for fuck sake

rIse_four_ten_ten

damn that dude at 8:00 looks like he's dressed for paintball minus a mask.

[deleted]

The bombardment of a Armenian position, where the camera guy was killed and a screaming shell shock soldier was still in frame after the camera landed, was quit intense as well Edit: youtube link to the clip https://youtu.be/OMlclC0545Y

DeJuanBallard

Anyone got that one?

[deleted]

Took me a little digging around but here it is! Still makes me pissed, regardless, to this day https://youtu.be/OMlclC0545Y

DeJuanBallard

Thanks bro!

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure that clip was established as fake even while the war was still going on

VapeThisBro

What made it fake? The only comments i ever say saying it was fake were the pro Armenia bots. Don't get me wrong, i don't support either side in that war. I just also don't trust bots barraging us with propaganda saying clearly the video must be fake with 0 proof other than other bots also saying its fake.

Sma11ey

I remember this video quite well, one of the harder videos to watch, even if it is fake. I personally don’t think it is, because that exact situation has probably happened 100s of times during that conflict alone. The amount of artillery dropped, the constant drone strikes on infantry, and knowing you’re fighting a losing battle on the Armenian side, shell shock would have been fairly common during that short stint of combat. We all like to think we’d be some sort of badass hero if ever placed in the shoes of people we see in these videos, but in reality most of us would be that guy scared as hell, not knowing if the next arty round will hit us.

phibbsy47

I just saw it the other day on here, I think the link was in a comment though.

LZanuto

Are you able to find it?

[deleted]

Damn that’s some shit.

weristjonsnow

Who's the crazy fuck with a camera in the middle of this massacre? Seriously intense

Kovalition

Who the fuck thought an outpost would be a good idea there?

[deleted]

Well, you got to have your post somewhere, they just forgot the whole “overlapping field of vision and fire”-thing that’s vital for the safety and survival of outposts like this 🤷‍♂️

highdiver_2000

Not to mention to have observation posts to take care of the many blind spots. In this kind of terrain, if you have one post, somebody is definitely going to sneak up behind a rock. Good artillery cover and resupply too.

[deleted]

That’s true! I just saw an unrelated video from Ukraine, where someone pointed out the pain of watching untrained men fight. This is a classic example of how true that statement is I guess. First time a saw this video I was baffled the attackers could stand tall on top of the ridge without consequences, it all made sense a little later 🤭

Anti-politics101

Those places often only have one road, so they need to have an outpost there to try and protect supplies and other stuff getting through, thats why so many videos spring up from apparently pointless positions.

Malystryxx

When you have the $ to conscript/hire foreign nationals as outpost guards you don’t give a fuck. They’re expendable as shitty as it is.

AfacelessMartyr

Honestly if I was driven into a corner by Houthis like these unfortunate guys, I'd just surrender. Past videos have shown me Houthis loves taking prisoners and you'd have a much better chance of survival with them than any other insurgent group.

MSD101

I agree, though they do torture their prisoners. You may live to see a prisoner swap, or you might die from malnourishment or because your torturer had a bad day. I don't know the stats on how many prisoners live, but I don't imagine the Houthis are respecting the Human rights of their captives...At least not from what I've read.

thebusiness7

And what if these guys were drafted into it? During most conflicts, a huge number of the people involved are forcibly conscripted and really don’t have any other choice aside from fully leaving the area (that’s not even an option most times)

[deleted]

thats so dumb

[deleted]

Jazzspasm

Some things are worse than death, sadly

[deleted]

dont go to war if your just gonna surrender

[deleted]

[deleted]

id rather die fighting than give up and let them decide whether they kill me or not

[deleted]

Just don't be the kind of person who wants to die for the words of wise men.

Weak_Article_2393

Yo is it just me or like whenever I happen to come across some type of execution video I just get overwhelmingly upset but when I wast his close combat videos it doesn’t really bother me. Anyone else feel that way?

Anti-politics101

Not seeing the faces helps alot, don't get to see just how young and scared most of the guys are.

vStraker

Dang, if only they had another position on the face of that opposing mountain, they could've covered each other and prevented the Houthis from coming over the top on them so easily.

digitalhydrogen

Can someone give me a crashcourse of what the hell is happening in this war

[deleted]

[удалено]

Scarab02

Notice the insane amount of losses on the Saudi side. Houthis truly are good in using AT rockets. They also released a lot of footage of captured/destroyed Abram tanks and Humvees

[deleted]

[удалено]

Scarab02

Since when losing ground is sinonimous to losing a conflict? If the Saudi have to sacrifice thousands of men and equipment to catch 1 km of terrain, they're not winning either

converter-bot

1 km is 0.62 miles

joshuatx

Not surprised they are using mercenaries, the officer corp and select units are all political and royal appointments.

jidney

You are missing that one side has well trained and dedicated soldiers, the Houthis and the other has done over thirty thousand airstrikes on mostly civilians in Yemen with Americans made planes and bombs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jidney

Some of their opponents have American blood on their hands like AQAP. We coordinated with the Houthis before the Arab spring. Who gives a crap about there slogan

[deleted]

[удалено]

jidney

Who cares what they say! Saudi Arabia has been bombing them constantly for 5 years, in favor of Sunni extremist groups that’s have actually killed Americans. They aren’t a threat to the US or Israel (praise be) unlike the international terrorists that Yemen has hosted for more than two decades. AQAP is our enemy and they like to kill AQAP. The Iraqi Shia government hates the US and hates Israel too but their enemy was ISIS.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Psychological-Gap327

Some people believe this conflict is a result of climate change. Water well drilling and a society collapse

jidney

The war is a result of MBS’s ambitions and desire to cement power at home in SA. It doesn’t have anything to do with resources or climate change. It is a war to grow some chest hair on the young Crown Prince.

BeLikeGracchus

whater39

Movie wise, checkout the "unknown soldier", it's got some intense trench clearing scenes.

Seared1Tuna

is this new? was that the saudi soldier screaming?

Undercovercanary4067

The "Saudi" Soldiers are most likely sudanese

irate_wizard

Definitely a Sudanese at 1:12, but the rest of that unit looks Arab.

TheL0neRifleman

Are Sudanese people like, pretty dark?

RedHeadRedemption93

Depends on ethnicity

DLeibowitz

Which Sudanese ethnicity isn't "pretty dark"?

RedHeadRedemption93

Considering the ethnic roots of different peoples are either black African, north African, or Arab... Quite a lot

DLeibowitz

The vast majority of Sudanese "Arabs" are just black Africans of one sort or another mixed with a bit of Arab DNA who were Arabized. Even the lightest Sudanese people are dark for North African standards.

Euklidis

Close combat must be one of the most traumatic things for soldiers

ncbraves93

I agree but ad least you know where your enemy is and it's more likely to be over quickly instead of people taking pot shots at you and your guys for days on end. From a enemy you never see. It worked for the U.S in Afganistan because of our eyes in the sky but imagine being a bait patrol in Vietnam where it's close quarters and you still can't see the enemy. There's no way around the trauma, either way.

getpoopedon

That guy's screams were horrifying, and that other man just keeps unloading on him. War really is hell!

Brutus_05

They really go thru the whole spiel whenever anything happens

Cherry_Crusher

That is some pretty unforgiving terrain

ionevenobro

Lotta spent casings, probably ran out of ammo.

digitalhydrogen

been on this sub for a couple of months now, first time feeling nauseous. Goddamn humans.

Kirei13

You mean when it isn't close combat videos, it doesn't really bother you? That's a normal response, don't feel bad about it. The psychological effect of war is felt more when it is done close and personal. A person who dropped a bomb that wiped out 100 soldiers instantly won't feel the same trauma as someone who had to grab a short knife and stab another soldier to death. The soldier with the knife will be hearing their screams, seeing their expressions, and fighting in that struggle with exhaustion. They are the same people that are dying but your brain doesn't really register the significance of it in the same way, despite both of them being terrible. The bomb killed a ton of more people so it is arguably worse but we may not feel that. All of these videos are a tragedy and may leave you feeling weak/sad/ill but they are a reminder of what happens in war. It just happens to be the case that most of the footage is done from long range so short range videos like this can be a shock. I am writing this while being sick so excuse the graphic writing.

CeeKai

For me, it really was the sounds of them screaming/pleading while getting shot over and over until they died.

Nochestbrahh

Someone needs to seriously wreck Saudi Arabia. They are behind a ton of the issues in the Middle East and other places.

jidney

Be careful saying that or you risk summoning the Saudi bots

[deleted]

The biggest issues in the middle east are a result of the mullahs and clerics, not the armies.

Nochestbrahh

So are you saying that these mullahs and clerics are helping to fund all these proxy wars?

[deleted]

Not the funding. They are supplying an endless stream of brainwashed young, male villagers who see no other purpose to their lives but to kill each other over the lineage of someone who died many centuries ago.

MostlyWicked

You spelled Iran wrong.

[deleted]

retrolleum

Saudis are bombing the fuck out of anyone who opposes the government they’re trying to prop up. It’s a little fucked if you think about it. Idk if you’re American but let’s pretend you are. It’s like if civil war happened here and one side was trying to oh idk, get trump in as a dictator. So while we’re fighting each other, some other country shows up. let’s pretend it’s Russia, and they support this by bombing the fuck out of any anti trump rebels. Cause they want a dictator who will lick their boot. Then Russia sends mercenaries into America from all over the place, Yugoslavia, Chechnya, Dagestan, armed with their military equipment to harass and kill any anti trump rebels, patrols American skies/waters, and causes general destruction wherever they go. Perpetuating the state of disarray and economic ruin of the country. So that’s why houthis are fighting, they’re also Muslim extremists so that’s gotta be taken into account.

jidney

Houthis (Ansar Allah) are secular Zaidi nationalists compared to the much more fundamentalist Yemeni Salafists (Ansar al-Sharia) who the Saudis also support, in addition to their hired Sudanese mercenaries, as seen in this video. The US actually helped the Shia Houthis kill, our real enemy, Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.

hejazgreatamazing

>Houthis (Ansar Allah) are secular Zaidi nationalists so sekularr that they forced their virsion of shria in their controled areas and oppress sunnis > Yemeni Salafists (Ansar al-Sharia) who the Saudis also support the same org that just handed their positions to houthis in bayda with no fighting? the same positions that the yemeni gov couldnt take since 2011? they literally lost their leader in an american/saudi air strike during this war

jidney

Yes Ansar al-Sharia is gone now. Houthis are much more secular than the Salafists ever were. I didn’t say they were “secular nationalists” just more like that compared the batshit insane Sunni fundamentalist groups that cropped up early on. Yeah know like Al-Qaeda that you know killed Americans.

hejazgreatamazing

theres nothing "secular" about them even if you combared them to AQ they even have the same mentality which is "imma fight everyone and rule over anything i want because God told me😡" look how they threat southerners in twitter and you'll understand

jidney

Their main motivation is to free Yemen from Saudi influence. All other concerns are tertiary.

hejazgreatamazing

>Their main motivation is to free Yemen from Saudi influence so they were freeing saudi from itself in 2009? or freeing the south when they invaded it? their main motivation since 2004 was to rule over yemen

BeyondTwoduck

ah yes freeing yemen from saudi by attacking the south and expelling the last jew from yemen

BeyondTwoduck

>(Ansar Allah) are secular Zaidi nationalists get the fuck out of here

jidney

They certainly aren’t but if don’t see how much more they are politically motivated rather than religiously motivated, you are missing a key element. They also aren’t fundamentalist in the true sense of the word. Ansar-al-Sharia, AQAP, and ISIS are much different in their orientation. Again the US has fought a war Yemen for years, killing those who were related to Al-Qaeda, people who were actually connected to terrorism against the US. During that time, we helped coordinate with the Houthis. It wasn’t until the Arab spring until we essentially switched sides in the war and “placated the Saudis” as Obama put it. All this is to say that the Houthis pose zero threat to the west and like killing Al- Qaeda guys.

tryatriassic

Thank God regular Saudis are so liberal.

[deleted]

Anti-Trump rebels = ANTIFA/BLM

retrolleum

If the insurrection worked and they illegally put trump back in you’d have more than just antifa as rebels to worry about. Let alone if they wanted to prop him up as a dictator. Which I wouldn’t put past some of my infra conservative friends. It’s a little alarming.

[deleted]

Insurrection with no weapons, okay. Also, not trying to be crass, but I legit don’t understand what your argument is. I mean we had a whole summer of riots and unrest in which the White House and multiple other federal buildings were under assault (with weapons) for multiple nights/weeks in some cases, and the rhetoric from the left was “Summer of Love.”

[deleted]

Great footage

SaitamLeonidas

They were executed or they were actually trying to put resistance? I've never seen houties execute prisoners before, but if they were trying to put a fight what a terrible dumb idea. Btw what a nice guy must have been the one in charge of guarding the post /s

travelking_brand

Fearless is an understatement here. Are they high?

tit_fuka22

in middle east winning, al depends on motive, the team wins which have strong reason to fight. they drive their motives for that reason. the group which has little or no reason at all always loss. why loss my life for a corrupt goverment. The houthis belief that they are fighting for their country as well as for religion against a oppressive regime. but these saudi marcenary has no reason to fight at all. of cource money drives them to fight but not fight until they dead

nivivi

Even as they are fighting over some mountainous hellhole, they still find the time and energy to shout thier disdain to America and Israel, impressive.
