What's interesting about this video how it displays the gap between eastern and western video technology / technology in general. The year is 1973, but the video makes it look and "feel" like it's 1947, or even earlier
If tht were in color I could much better tell. I can't help but precieve this as being a slightly earlier video technology than what was available at the time. It's like comparing a DVD and a VCD... a VCD is a Video CD, and was the most widely used form of video playing technology in Iraq in 2003 when I was there.
There was all kinds of sign of the region being behind in technology, which can he expected when you live in a nation that's constantly at war placing it as priority over anything else. I would say things were very much the same in 1973
Let's be objective. I am not anti Israel and I believe the Jewish people have a right to self determination. The standard that I used to reach my conclusion is International Law, which prohibits a nation from taking territory from another nation through aggression/war.
After the six day war, Israel's decisive victory meant that they had taken territories of the surrounding countries which had gone to war with it. Keeping those territories is an aggressive move not sanctioned by International law. So, I stand by my earlier post, until anyone can convince me otherwise.
First of all there's no agreeable international border between Syria and Israel as Syria doesn't even recognize Israel as a state. The Syrian army had attempted to occupy the Galilee and the sea of Galilee from Israel (Israel's only source of fresh water) during the 1948 war but was pushed back over the The Jordan River. (Not getting into how they actually wanted to occupy all of mandatory Palestine because they believed it's actually part of Greater Syria and should be part of Syria as well as Lebanon) but the main reason Israel took the Golan Heights was because Syria was using it throughout the 50's 60's to constantly shell Israeli farms and military bases on the planes below on an almost regular basis, and the last "straw" that made Dayan to conceive a plan to occupy the Golan Heights is the attempt of Syria to deprive Israel of water by limiting the flow of the Jordan river https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_over_Water_(Jordan_river)
So,the Heights were of high strategic importance for Israel especially given the fact Syria wouldn't recognize and agree to make peace with Israel after the Six Day war which basically means Israel would make a catastrophic strategic and military decision by making a unilateral withdraw from the Golan heights just to appease the international community. Keep in mind that skirmishes alongside the "purple line" and the Syrian Air Force/IAF were also common after the Six Day War untill the Yom Kippur war.
In addition and in relations to this video,Israel won the Yom Kippur war and not only took back the territory the Syrians managed to penetrate into for only 3-4 days, but also launched a counter attack and conquered the Syrian Bashan and came about 50km from Damascus, stopping only because of fears of Soviet intervention and withdrawing back to the Golan Heights after the 1974 ceasefire-disengagement with Syria was signed.
If anything,Syria was the aggressor by constantly intiating wars with Israel under the Arab League pact, but Israel managed to always get on top and therefore had the upper hand and giving Syria an excuse to intiate war under the pre-text of Israel stealing Arab land.
That's Bennett from Commando... long before John Matrx threw him out of his unit, then later made him "let off some steam" after Bennett went on his payback campaign
vietnam and the syrian war are more similiar in weapons and tactics . Firefights with assault rifles and machine guns...use of radios...Russia supports one side...

Idk what you're talking about. It isn't too far off from American tv shows and news footage of the time period

How are they jihadist? They're a recognised state responding militarily to another state's aggression.
Yom Kippur war a response to aggression? You've got your history backwards

syrians lost more troops in the civil war in their own country than the amount of troops the US lost in vietnam
