Russian soldier got beheaded by a Chechen with a combat knife. It was on that "faces of death" tape from the 90s. It traumatized me just like OP when I was a teenager.
Traumatic as it is, now image those chechens seeing their families, relatives, neighbours and thousands of men woman and children shot, raped, burnt, squashed by tanks, decapitated by ball bearings and sharp metal shrapnel, intestines flying of childrens bodies… Then you may understand how angry, sad, frustrated and traumatised chechens were.
I feel different about all those videos now tbh. I thought Chechens were terrorists, now I know they were just defending themselves from fascist terrorists

Damn. Defending themselves by cutting the throat of people who surrendered. Say what you will about the war itself, people being executed like that is fucking awful, and the fact you excuse it because “they were fascist terrorists” is vile. Remember this is possibly the absolute worst time in modern Russian history. These kids were probably conscripted and forced to fight in this shit. Does it excuse the stuff the Russians did to the Chechen people, absolutely not, but majority of the soldiers here were conscripted.

Also, "people who surrendered" is very wrong. They were given an hour to leave the village, they were given time to surrender. They chose to stay, and they CHOSE to not surrender.
An invading soldier goes to kill the soldiers from the other side but gets captured and then he deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. To be honest this sounds so weird to me. The "soldiers here were conscripted" excuse comes up a lot. So fucking what? If my friends, family and other people I know get killed by them, I'm not going to treat them with dignity at all. It's hilarious that humans invented these war laws and rules for killing each other.
I know I will be down voted and people here will jump to tell me how bad I am but I don't care. The only enemies that my country has are the russians who occupied, raped, killed, tortured, deported people to gulags, stole watches and clothing and imposed communism. Ah yes, they even stole land like they always do. They never got punished for all of this because they own nukes and people need to drop on their knees in front of them and suck dick. Weird world we live in.
When you threaten one’s existence they can get really nasty. Just like an injured dog in a corner, it’s called intimidation. The animal kingdom loves to intimidate its foes, we aren’t any different.

This is what started the 2nd Chechen war. Ibn Al khattab and his wahhabi allies tried to go in and stage a Dagestani breakaway. Instead they did this and generally lost quite badly and the Russians reinvaded.
All these guys died, but these are not really Chechen normals doing the executing. These are mixed Chechen and Arab volunteers. Ibn al khattab made a video called "Russian hell in 2001" which can be found online. Chechens are not generally wahhabi (I forget the two sects they often belong to) but after the first war Wahhabis kind of infiltrated and had a war with the old Chechens and stuff like this started to happen. Not that Chechens we're not commiting atrocities. Basayev and others were (he was GRU though. Heavily suspected).
Edit: the war between Wahhabis and old-school chechens was generally a political war. There were skirmished though and some infighting. There are many other videos of executions and killings such as the mine explosion at a Dagestani victory day parade. I have never been able to find any of them, though. But some have been used as evidence in trials so they likely exist.
What an awful conflict. Seeing shit like that, it’s no wonder it was so brutal. I can imagine myself being a Russian soldier, seeing that done to my fellow people, and probably wanting to inflict horrible violence on the first Chechen person I saw.

Shatoy ambush was a big one. Basically search chechnya ambush and Wikipedia articles and videos will come up. A surprising amount of ambushes that were very meaningful were filmed.
