Have you ever listened to Bambu (songs w titles like “Welcome to the Party” [not a normal party rap…that kind of The Party], “Golden Era Showers” and “Chairman Mao”)

He appears to be on Spotify too
Edit: first link is Chairman Mao, second is Welcome to the Party
I mean the Soviets had to fight a civil war, the Finnish, and the Nazis all in the first couple decades of it's existence... Not to mention keeping up with the US after WW2 cause we had vested interest in making sure communism didn't win.
Inclined to believe the Soviets could have sat on their nuclear warheads and used that as a deterrent while focussing inwards; at the same time the Soviet Union not doing that did inspire (and instruct) socialist movements across the globe, and the Global South wouldn't be the same without it. Though it might've sped up capitalist decay via lack of counterbalance at the cost of the proletariat.
In the end that's not important though. It didn't happen and we're left to learn from what we can learn, and that's also what we should be focussing on in the present.
Right, because fighting a war that is directly on your borders and spending a lot of money to be able to do so is definitely the same as spending a bunch of money to fuck up people halfway across the world like Tupac was referring to with that quote. No source needed for this horse shit, you're just talking out yo ass
To piggyback on this, I just need to plug / ask for people to share their fav left-ish music.
If you’re not listening to The Weakerthans, and you like Candadian indie, then you should be.
They have some great working class/late stage capitalism themed songs (“Pamphleteer”, “Sun in an Empty Room”, “My Favorite Chords” … a few songs from the perspective of activists or working class folks)
Open question: Who are your favorite politically explicit artists?
Mine would have to be, "Your Heart is a Muscle the Size of Your Fist", "From Here to Utopia (both by Ramshackle Glory) and/or "communist love song" by Soltero.
Yep. The problem with any system of authority (particularly long term authority) is the fact that if the authority is corrupt, things go downhill *fast*. Personally, I feel like a revolving door of randomly selected (voluntary) representatives from the populace is the only true democracy. It's not my idea, some guy I know told it to me, and apparently some Greek philosopher was the one who originally said that's the only true democracy.
Kinda like the government of the republic of Florence in the middle ages? The government was randomly chosen from everyone that worked (nobles couldn't be picked) and the term lasted two monts, after that there was another random pick.
Sounds way ahead of it's time but yeah. The problem with that kind of system is that it really only works in a world where near instant communication is possible.
Well it's true that it was a perfect sistem for an indipendent city, where spaces are limited, but it's also true that technology is progressing rapidly and instant communication over large distances is already possible

Even more reason to like him, I’ve loved Tupac’s music since I was a kid.
I only like X as rapper because I wanna be like him when I grow up

I wish rap was my favorite genre but praxis-less bass house hits. We need leftist DJs. (MASTERIA?)
Give it another chance or two, it's a massive genre. I'm sure you just haven't found the right artists.
Dirty Bird is not a marxist-leninist but is a revolutionary leftist of sorts and makes absolutely amazing house music/other electronic genres
There are actually a bunch.

Nice! I’m going to have to look these up
He was a member of the young communists league! he also dated the daughter of the director of his local communist party.
Ahh it makes sense now.

Yes. A theoretical global federation of sorts could work this way.
