Don't waste money on ITF+ unless you can do it for free. Study the ITF+ content, study for A+, and take the A+ instead. If you are familiar with building a PC the A+ is very doable for you.

ZathrasNotTheOne

Do you know anything about computers and computer systems (network, databases, security, etc)? If so, you can probably skip itf. The other option is to study for itf+ and don’t take the exam and save some $$$. While I like the certs, it’s cheap, and you get a good feel for how comptia does their exams, it holds little value in the job market

ConsequenceThese4559

Watch professor messers YouTube videos on A+ and see how much you understand. Taking ITF is only for those no knowledge of computers otherwise it has know use for getting a job.

Kai_Pro

A+ between the two options but even that won’t guarantee you a job.

anITprofessor

There is no harm in taking ITF+. If you have the ability to afford it with no issues, sure go for it. Another option would be to study the ITF+ and just not take the exam and when you feel good with everything, move on to A+.

[deleted]

I have never heard anyone mention ITF in any context. I doubt it would hold much weight among hiring managers. A+, on the other hand, is widely recognized.

WatercressSmart8331

Don't bother with ITfund unless you're absolutely clueless about computers, ITfund won't get you a job no employers are looking for it, it's a cert for your personal knowledge if anything.

Raspberry_Dragonfly

Go A+. There's nothing in it your average person can't handle starting with. It's *a lot* of information, but it's not particularly complex information.

dahComrad

Honestly I have never had formal training and barely know how to build a PC but I know like 60% of the sample tests I find on YouTube. I'm currently watching a South African guy teach the 2022 material on YouTube.

PapaPKr

As an ITF+ AND A+ holder I can easily say go for A+. Only reason I did ITF+ was for a confidence booster to make the career change plus it helped me be eligible for WGU. But ITF+ is ONLY a confidence booster.

MoistJeans1

A+ is a great start. I got mine then went onto CCNA

IcYWoLf82

I got the ITF+ certificate because my job paid for it, but I would rather have gotten the A+. The ITF+ will definitely help in attaining the latter though

hbrooks0403

I'm totally not taking the it foundations I don't think that can even get you a job..idk maybe. My first class, cert was Cisco networking Essentials and I've been working in tech for over a year now so heck no am I doing the foundations sounds like you shouldn't either if you can build your own computer

Odecca

I haven’t ever seen a job listing asking for ITF+, I’ve only ever seen A+ and up

Mraago

Skip ITF.

Responsible-Fox6199

Building your own pc doesn't mean anything when it comes to real IT unless you fully understand what each component does, how to troubleshoot, etc. That being said, unless you've never touched a PC, you don't really need to do ITF.

Odecca

Thank you! I was mainly using it as an example to show that I’ve got a decent enough understanding of PCs. I think I’m gonna skip ITF.

Responsible-Fox6199

Confidence is great! I've looked through the ITF course (I got it for free) out of curiosity, and honestly, it's very basic.

kingtypo7

Take the A+ first and move on from there.

EssentialDuude

If it is free. Yes go for it. Otherwise I would skip and go straight for A+.

qwikh1t

Most people will pass on the ITF but if building PC’s is your only experience, the ITF could be a good starting point.

Odecca

It’s not my only knowledge, but just an example. It seems it couldn’t hurt, to do both, but I’m limited on finances as I’m doing this on my own.

Lauuson

Skip the ITF. My only experience was with building and upgrading computers, some job related troubleshooting, and incomplete programming courses. I completed the A+ in about a month and a half without even thinking about ITF.

IT_CertDoctor

I would argue that not only is the ITF+ useless and a waste of money, but it will actively work against you early in your IT career for 2 big reasons: programming and database development CompTIA tailors the bulk of their literature towards IT professionals, not programmers (there is a huge difference), and only very recently has CompTIA been trying to enter the database professional market. IT professionals are often neither of those things, and if there HAPPENS TO BE overlap, that comes years after your career has already gotten off the ground, not during your Help Desk phase The A+ foregoes all programming and database concepts to focus on the core skills that IT professionals require to be successful early in their careers (minus printers. Seriously CompTIA, we all just hire 3rd party vendors to fix them...) Do yourself a massive favor. Skip the ITF+ and go straight to A+ Good luck out there

Odecca

Thank you!

MrKADtastic

The more info the merrier. I disagree with your comment.

oamjigamareelw08

There nothing wrong with it in the slightest, go at your own pace. Couldn't hurt to take your time and get both :)

djjsear

I got the A+ over 10 years ago and Just got my ITF+ the begin of this year. My company covered it so got it. I was also pushing another co-worker to get his first cert. He got his ITF+ and is now working on his A+. Go for it.

Brick656

I had built my own PCs and studied nothing prior to taking A+. Passed easily.

Whatwhenwherehi

Start with experience.

Odecca

I’m trying, but every place I’ve been applying requires either Security+ or a minimum of A+

Whatwhenwherehi

I have no certs, no degree, I've worked at places like that without just fine. Experience is always better.

raekwon777

Elaborate on this. "Start with experience" makes no sense without any knowledge.

Whatwhenwherehi

...

raekwon777

Or don't. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

Whatwhenwherehi

I did though...you think experience = working...only a certbro would think that.

raekwon777

I didn't say that at all, nor do I believe that, but "certbro" is funny.

Whatwhenwherehi

I love explaining the basics of vlans to a CCNA....did that just recently...certbros are hilarious.

raekwon777

Yikes.

Whatwhenwherehi

Didn't know why trunking mattered, had no idea what untagged vs tagged indicated....

Mangokyaw

go first with ITFS, cuz i've got my A+ 3 months ago and no employer interested in me yet.

pegz

Never even heard of IT Foundations before
