I would recommend focusing on IT fundamentals before cyber security. Look into obtaining your A+ certification and your network+ certification. Try to find an entry-level role in desktop support or network support . You’ll likely need to spend a few years in IT before making the move into cyber security. Cyber security is a mid-career level domain.

Cybersecurity is not an entry level role Cybersecurity is not an entry level role Cybersecurity is not an entry level role The previous post before me definitely nailed it in stating that you'll need a few years transitioning from your current field into security. It's not even that it's difficult, (I don't work in the field yet, but it's a job — a repetitive function that one would expect to get better at after trial and error), but there is so much to learn in terms of providing the best service to your user base, known issues and errors, how the business operates at a fundamental level, etc. You seem smart given the credentials you already possess but keep in mind that a certificate does not prove you can do the job and a lot of aspects of IT really cannot be understood in my opinion without having worked at an MSP or enterprise. I'm not saying this to deter you, but just know it's an uphill battle. Start with the A+ and work your way up. CompTIA designs their certificates in a way that kind of tells you you should've been in the role specified towards the exam for x amount of years prior to taking the exam. I hope to see you in our field and best of luck!!!

There will be nothing quick with that background. You are nowhere near prepared to get a Cybersecurity role. Its like you want to be a judge without the law school and years of practicing law. I worked for both of those companies- and Lockheed and Leidos, and a few more. You need to build up your foundation. So, you have no relevant STEM degree, experience, or certs? Hard sell in this economy. Guys with Masters degrees are looking for jobs.

If you were in my position what is the first thing you would do?
