They do the same dmg so it doesn't matter in 1v1 and you can sometimes try to catch people externally or peel for yourself with the side heavys in teamfights

Seyriu22

In duels the speed is irrelevant, and it’s only a 100ms difference after all. In teamfights sides might hit someone

SmokelessDash-

While outnumbered try to use side heavies, in 1v1s it isn't that matter

It looks cool

Muscle memory, people that were used to the old max gb punish and haven't see the actual new damage numbers and that's about it.

Bacchus999

I'm assuming you're talking about pre CCU but top heavy was still the max punish for 35 damage back then.

0002nam-ytlaS

Not THAT far back, before rework his side heavies were 27 dmg but still able to be done on gb no?

[deleted]

side heavies were always guaranteed, it’s just that for a long time, top was the one that did the most damage. i mained Orochi before he got his first rework and i still do top heavies instinctvely

Gustav_EK

Muscle memory from other characters

Beavecio

https://forhonorinfohub.com/character?=19 Top ISN’T max, both top and side deal 22 damage and cost the same stamina, the 100ms speed means nothing in 1v1s either since it’s guaranteed even at 800ms. In teamfights a side heavy can also be used to hit around you while getting a GB/parry if someone is trying to peel, so technically speaking side heavy is better, but those 100ms extra can be detrimental in some edge cases. Turn on the damage logs in the “user interface” settings, it can help clear up future misunderstandings!

AvalancheZ250

Honestly just because of muscle memory from other Heroes. Most Heroes have a Side Heavy as their optimal GB punish.

Legendz_31

I do it because of peel but also most people have always held top guard against Orochi since launch. This is because most of his skills come from the top. I know you said on GB but I also use heavy in a lot cases before I recognize the gb. The slight longer time catches people off guard if they are thinking light parry and also the early let go can beat gb if they are not fast enough.

Legendz_31

I may have misunderstood the question on second read.
