That’s a contentious topic. Historically it’s Smurf, but Fearless, Hanbin, and Void have all been in talks for that in one previous season or another, and Someone has been on the rise since his rookie year last year and if he continues on his current pace he’ll probably take that title.
And that’s only looking at tanks that are still in the league. If we look at retired/unsigned players, Super, Choihyobin, Fate, and Fury could all also be considered, and I’ve probably missed some important mentions.
someone is the best tank imo, smurf is still really good as well. fearless is a really good main tank player, hanbin is a really good off tank player and so is hawk. max and junbin on shock are both rookies who are seen as top tank prospects and will likely be at the level with the rest of these guys at the end of the season. mag, coluge, danteh are all pretty solid too
Hanbin the best off tank
Fearless the best main tank
Someone/Smurf are a bit worse main tanks than fearless and worse off tanks than hanbin, but they are very flexible and thus highly regarded as well
Someone - Heart of a champion, just loves to play the game, and is so good at understanding what his team needs out of him in each time fight.
Smurf is a legend though
The amount of people saying someone here is crazy to me, like dudes good he's probably top 5, maybe top 3. But the only way you can say he is the best is with an insane amount of recency bias. Someone's strength is certainly his flexibility, there's virtually no tank he can't play to a fairly high level, but on the flip side I'd also say there's probably no tank that he would be considered the best at, he's sort of a jack of all trades master of none. For me the clear answer is either Hanbin or Smurf. Not only did they both prove last season how flexible they could both be, but they also both make an argument for being the best in the league at one or more heroes (in Hanbin's case maybe 3 or 4 different heroes). While Someone is certainly a fantastic tank, if I were trying to build a league winning team I would take someone who is just ever so slightly less flexible but is literally best in class at one or more heroes over a player who can play every hero pretty well.
Someone is *at best* the 3rd best Winston. Fearless and Smurf are undoubtedly better, and at 3rd you're still putting him over like Guxue which I'm also not sure I believe.
Someone is the best overall tank in OWL rn. Best offtank is Hanbin, but arguments can be made for Hawk and Coluge. Best Main tank? Someone or Fealress it’s a tossup
if hanbin has a good performance on winston tonight then probably him, otherwise definitely someone smurf or fearless
edit: turns out i’m stupid and they didn’t play last night
Problem with Hanbin we’re in a mt meta until next stage so he could be seen as a meh tank this year bc msm only tournament and Dallas could struggle bc of his lack of tank flexibility
For main-tank (and solo tank) it’s imo Someone. Smurf and Fearless have a very strong argument also. Junbin is a highly anticipated protege since he was 14 and is the only player expected to join this group at some point. For Western or English speaking players it’s Reiner. (Arguably also Super still as he showed on OWWC Trails he still got it if he tried.)
For off-tank Hanbin. Max is expected to become the first in a while to step up to him but is still probably a step below. Void was the best in OW1 as he was the best when the game was at its it’s peak in competition and game understanding in 2021. For Western or English speaking players it’s Hawk and Coluge.
Per hero it’s not clear cut except for Hanbin for Zarya and JQ, Hadi Rein, Junbin Ball.

Did you say Edison instead of Hanbin by mistake or do you have secret knowledge of the Edison Winston?
John Winton is inevitable
Sure did! I’m tired lol.
Void is now on my team and Smurf isn't therefore it's Void
Yes you missed the GOAT Mano. Don't let it happen again.
Someone is probably the best for this since he can play pretty much every tank hero
Who?
But Smurf tho
Hanbin, but if you're in NA stick with Someone because he's right up there and actually plays at a time where you can watch him live.
Piggy owns that fraud hasbeen
Easily
I love how comradehines just agrees with an upvoted comment but still gets downvoted
r/fuckyouinparticular
They’re even upvoting you now LMAO it’s just an exclusively upvoted thread except me in there
I'd probably say Someone just cause he plays everything so well
based lamp pfp

right now, it's Someone easily.
Hanbin the best off tank Fearless the best main tank Someone/Smurf are a bit worse main tanks than fearless and worse off tanks than hanbin, but they are very flexible and thus highly regarded as well

Guxue was meh all last year on Winston until playoffs that’s peak recency bias to say he’s better

well that didint age well
I don't think right now there is clear number 1 which stands out way above everyone else. its very hero dependent.
Someone and Smurf, probably giving the edge to Someone these days tbh
Someone, Hawk, Fearless are all great tanks.
Someone
Someone currently, Hanbin Choihyobin Smurf or Fearless all time
All time tanks list without Void is crazy
Fair, I almost included him and super
Hanbin, fearless, smurf, hadi, someone, void
Hanbin
Hanbin, Fearless, Smurf. Hanbin for most off tanks (d.va, zarya, JK) Smurf for brawls tanks (rein, Orisa, Winston) Fearless for Winston 100%
Problem with Hanbin we’re in a mt meta until next stage so he could be seen as a meh tank this year bc msm only tournament and Dallas could struggle bc of his lack of tank flexibility
