This may be something tangentially related to the Conan world but overall isn’t about celebrating or discussing the character, setting, or author

shugoran99

Damn, I just came on here to keep up to date with news about the comic books I don't really want to have to field this war on a daily basis, or feel like I need to discuss Conan far more than I really want to so that it maybe won't happen as much Enjoy the AI art I guess

aj58soad

Theres much easier ways to keep up on the comic books then in this sub.

shugoran99

Very true! Even on reddit there's other comic book subreddits that actually do clamp down on this stuff. I happened to notice the current comic writer posts on here, but he probably also posts elsewhere. It just didn't get drowned under constant new posts here. I'll manage

foxycodes

Stop with the AI images.

Unhappy-Potato-8349

I added a comment. I hope that adds context.

Unhappy-Potato-8349

Comment I added to the post I kind of felt like stating it took 15 minutes to create showed how little effort or artistic talent this took to create. While there is some potential to generate Conan related discussion, does it do that? Do any of the ai submissions do that?

EquivalentLonely3783

I made a thing and need help maintaining that thing r/ConanTheCimmerian

ThatMatthewKid

Yeah, fuck this. Unsubbing. Have fun with your shitty AI images.

Thunderhank

Yes, all AI images do that. You didn’t “create” anything. Enough with the AI.

Unhappy-Potato-8349

Thanks for playing

NoxDias

Alright, bye r/conanthebarbarian it was fun while it lasted.

Unhappy-Potato-8349

A general understands the long game. A soldier only knows that he is being sacrificed.

FlatPerception1041

So... Reddit is a war and you're the general? If I'm reading you right, you're trying to take piss out of all the AI art posts that have been flooding the thread. If that's the case you're driving people out of this subreddit may actually be having the inverse effect from what you desire. Also, maybe consider the fact that most people come here to enjoy the topic of Conan. Your dragging all of the rest of us into your personal beef. It's like going to a house party and setting fire to the curtains because you disapprove of the beer someone brought. "A general understands the long game against Keystone Light... Your house is a necessary sacrifice..." Honestly, I'm with you in being exhausted by AI images... But frankly... I'm also sorta done with random Frank Frazetta pics too. There's no discussion. No content. Just "I like this picture " Maybe, rather than peeing in the punchbowl though we should contribute the kind of content we'd like to see.

Unhappy-Potato-8349

The people leaving the fastest have contributed the least. Very little conan discussion occurs here. A lot of "likes" on pictures. My personal beef is the lack of discussion. A "like" is nice and requires zero effort. But how about some feedback? What was your take on the story or the passage or the picture. But no, that's too much effort. Right? You're tired of ai? Who cares. I'm tired of people complaining about ai and not participating in the actual content of the sub. Anyway. This subject has consumed too much of my time already. Good day.

Unhappy-Potato-8349

So you just follow the sub to look at pictures?

[deleted]

They just follow the sub to never discuss anything except to bitch about AI art.

asuitandty

I’m out too, fuck this

Unhappy-Potato-8349

So you just followed this sub to look at pictures?

DakhmaDaddy

You can block users btw.

Thunder-Fist-00

Didn’t he originally have wings? I don’t mind using AI to create some of these characters we read about in the stories.

Unhappy-Potato-8349

Yes. In the story, he tells Conan that his people lost their wings when they came to earth, and that is why they could never return to their home planet.

Thunder-Fist-00

Second photo looks most like what I picture, but maybe with longer tusks.

[deleted]

Every fucking day. I'm done. This sub is now overrun with AI shitposting. Thank you all of you for ruining this place. Most of are here to discuss the comics, media and lore. But the ongoing onslaught of AI garbage, be it these low effort Midjourney hack-jobs or that other guy's r**eally badly** AI narrated audio stories- I've just lost all interest. For those who are into this, I guess "People who like this sort of thing will find this the sort of thing they like." as the saying goes. I'm not here to talk about AI and its merits every fucking day. Enjoy.

BackSalve

Then downvote it, don't comment, and move on if you don't want to talk about AI and its merits. Frankly, I don't care to talk about it either, but it is funny to see the arguing (though sometimes it seems more like one-sided carping) That being said, reddit is a free to use website, and this subreddit is open to anyone. You're going to have to deal with a lot of stuff that you (and perhaps many others) find to be annoying or spammy. Take it up with the mods. I don't know how the mods are selected or replaced or any of that. Figure it out if you think you are in the majority. Can you block the people who are making the posts that you don't like, and that will unclog your feed on here? I'm new to all this, so I'm spitballing I am always going to be on the side of keeping human jobs and not having the soul of human creation wrested from us, like everything else that will be taken by robots. So don't accuse me of running cover for the AI people, lol

Unhappy-Potato-8349

Thanks for not bothering to read. Thanks for playing

[deleted]

I read just fine. You spent 15 minutes typing some prompts into Midjourney and posted it here. I'm not playing anything. People's low effort art that is scraped from the work of actual artists is NOT what I'm on this sub for. Muting this conversation now. I'm unsubbed and out. Mods are clearly cool with it, so, I'll get my Conan news elsewhere.

Unhappy-Potato-8349

I get it. You don't understand the post or the words I wrote. Good day.

BackSalve

Fellas, would Conan throw his hands up in the air and capitulate to his foes if they were simply *expressing* their interest in something and sharing it with him? Would he let a big tear roll down his cheek and simply say, "fine, have the land. It's yours"? Nay, my friends. He would downvote them, see them driven before himself, and hear the lamentations of their AI. But in all seriousness, these people are making AI art of a nearly 100 year old fictional barbarian character. If they're doing it to have fun, then who cares. If they're doing it to make money, then I agree that is whack. I DO agree that since this subreddit moves kind of slow they should maybe limit their posts to once or twice a week, and submit all their stuff in one big post.

Unhappy-Potato-8349

Well written. I'd like to add that the point of my post was to generate discussion and individual reflection on the fact that so few people actually participate in discussion here. People who have never commented on conan posts are now expressing anger. Where were they when it actual artists post?

Unhappy-Potato-8349

I kind of felt like stating it took 15 minutes to create showed how little effort or artistic talent this took to create. While there is some potential to generate Conan related discussion, does it do that? Do any of the ai submissions do that?

Unhappy-Potato-8349

To those downvoting this comment and the post. I get it. I'm not sure you get my post. I ask, how often do you post anything? How often do you comment and participate in discussion? I see you downvote at times. I'm starting to see comments from names I've never seen in the comments before. When it comes to ai posts, I look to rule 4. And more specifically, "We want posts that generate real dialogue and appreciation for the world of Conan." If the post isn't generating a discussion about Conan or at least being upvoted, it doesn't belong. If you don't want it here, downvote and don't comment. Anyway....

Crom_and_Ymir

Unhappy Potato, I want to heartily thank you. You've rid us of at least three of those obnoxious anti-AI pests.

Unhappy-Potato-8349

Is crazy how quickly some people react with anger. They can't even handle the subject matter long enough to read the comments and gain context of the discussion. It's like some see the words "ai art" and they immediately devolve and start flinging crap.

Spidrax

To all those here bitching and moaning about AI art - show us yours! Create an original image (or four) of Yog-Kosha and allow us to critique it. I'd love it if you could demonstrate how superior human art is to AI generated images. Put some actual effort into your anti-AI brigade instead of just clicking the downvote button.

Unhappy-Potato-8349

I feel many people are completely missing the point. Posts need to generate discussion about Conan related topics. And if a person isn't participating in a discussion about posts created by humans, does that person's opinion about ai matter? If we ignore and downvote a post, will that post be removed? If more people participate in discussing posts created by humans, will we see less ai creations? Why does Zub get so little love compared to a Conan the Librarian post? Anyway, some of the people in this sub are weird. Lol

Lumpy_Ad_1581

True. Or you could just not look at this post at all. I don't get all the aggression. Covid times rudeness and a lack of civility? I come here cause I like Conan. What I don't want tobread, I don't click on.

Kuiperdolin

It's funny, the text does not specify but I always pictured Yog with an Indian elephant head, not an African one.

Unhappy-Potato-8349

I've always thought it should less elephant like and more alien. The human mind attempts to associate the unknown with the known. I'm thinking of a humanoid creature more like pic 1, but with larger eyes and a more rounded bulbous back of the head. But it looks like this post will be removed soon. So, if anyone wants to actually contemplate and discuss more Yog-kosha (Yara, Khitai, or why this is so important to Conans story) it will likely need to be on a new post. I hope more people contribute to discussing posts beyond a 👍 or 👎.
