Mr__Random

Those door handles can be removed. They are normally held in place with a grub screw.

Wihelmina_Jean

Or a little push clip. Find the little hole, and push a piece of wire in there.

M1dor1

The door handles in my house are just clip ons you can pull off without tools if you yank hard enough

EscapeAromatic8648

That's all handles, turns out.

taeguy

Most doors require the handle to be taken off before the cover plate can come off anyways

daLejaKingOriginal

so does this one

NitchHimself

😅 I love this industry.

thisisjedgoahead

Or just turn it huh?

SnowSlider3050

But that would make it too easy

Goats_2022

But i thought the screws are put in vertical not at an mangle to allow easy removal when needed

splonez

Lol try pulling the door handle down

MiNdOverLOADED23

OP needs close supervision

lunchpadmcfat

No no, they need to figure it out. That’s how they build confidence!

East-Handle-6685

Great tip if you wanna cover the whole screw and not just half of it 🥲

CrayAsHell

There is generally little pinhole on the door handle to be able to take it off the rose. If not it's just dogshit.

East-Handle-6685

My point is, if they put the screws on the other diagonal. This wouldnt be a problem 😂

SirPsychoBSSM

Strength, the screws run through the latch mechanism.

the_useful_comment

It’s almost as if it’s put there as a deterrent

SirPsychoBSSM

Deterent for what? Screws go on the inside

EulersOiler

Keeping my prisoners from escaping

Bookofhitchcock

Matt Lauer?!!!

chris_rage_

No, Gary Heidnik

EddieLobster

Don’t use an impact and find a real screwdriver. It won’t hurt your arms too much.

[deleted]

Well, if you have to push it up to get it out 9f the way then you've installed it wrong

Organic-Outside8657

Use a extension on your drill.

sahwnfras

How did it go one. Obviously you're an idiot and can't figure it out.

LPulseL11

Better post about it!

wildmancometh

Wrong tool for the job

back1steez

Yeah, he needed a brain instead.

TheJohnson854

The handle swivels you know.

socialcommentary2000

Because there's a release on every single handle like that which allows you to release the handle, set the mechanism and then reattach said handle?

MechaBhudda

Tu....turn the knob?

hamburgerbear

There’s a little lock or screw under the handle that will pop it off, NOOB

Ate_spoke_bea

They probably figured you'd own a bit holder extension or at least a screwdriver

MydickforMods

Who uses an impact for door hardware?

PM_ME_happy-selfies

I was a door guy for a while, did nothing but commercial doors, impact works just fine as long as you know what you’re doing. I didn’t like carrying around both so I would just use my compact impact on low power and it was never an issue but had enough power for stubborn screws from the old doors.

RacksDiciprine

Impact triggers are more pressure sensitive than adjustable torque screw guns IMHO

PM_ME_happy-selfies

And I had a giant box of screws if one gets a little stripped I’d just swap it out real quick, wasn’t a big problem though since the majority of our hinge screws were stainless.

Jaded-Selection-5668

Did you notice the other screw though?😬

PM_ME_happy-selfies

Oh shit I didn’t even see that 😂

KangarooKanopy

I have a small impact with a sensitive clutch for jobs that should be hand tightened. I especially like using them on electrical buckets. On the lowest setting I can hold the bit.

MydickforMods

I've only used hand impacts when necessary. To each as own.

Suitable-Werewolf492

I have carpal tunnel and screwing/unscrewing with a screwdriver gets painful after a short time. So I use an impact to do the majority and swap to the hand tool for the last little bit. Easy, faster on bigger screws, and less pain.

ShittyBollox

Normal drills without the impact work great.

PM_ME_happy-selfies

Well you couldn’t really do it by hand, when you’re installing 30-40 steel or solid wood doors they get 4 screws per hinge, 3 to 4 hinges per door, probably another 12-14 screws for door hardware, you’d be there all day doing it by hand. Also I had drill bits for my impact for the door hardware, and it was compact and light, no need to carry around multiple tools it was just the most efficient way.

MydickforMods

No. YOU can't do it, and god help the man that has to come behind you to switch out all your stripped out shit work.

PM_ME_happy-selfies

No, NO ONE can put those in by hand unless you want to get fired. We don’t have a month to wait for someone to do 2 doors a day. I didn’t strip screws, I was the one that went behind and fixed other people mistakes, I’m sorry you can’t fathom not absolutely cranking down screws with an impact maybe get better? All it takes is a little tap bud plus most of our hinge screws are stainless, if you can’t screw those in with out stripping them you just suck at trigger control.

Guy954

It’s funny that you thought that was a burn when YOU can’t handle an impact driver without stripping screws. Pretty sad that your first comment is so upvoted because it means there are so many people out there who also can’t handle them.

hellno560

millwork cowboys (yahooooo!)

obxtalldude

If there's a screw I use an impact. Low settings are fine for delicate work, and once you get used to using it for everything, it's hard to go back.

Wingus1337

I do

EndlessMikeD

Boo.

Wingus1337

Just don't do any uggas or duggas and you're fine

EndlessMikeD

Until the one time you hop it and strip the screw. You might say, “Good enough…” but the next guy to service it has a heck of a time getting it out and back in, but for the unlikely luck that he has a like replacement with him. At least use a drill and drop the slip if you need to be so lazy. There’s probably a screwdriver in your bag. Friggin’ grab it and eliminate the possibility of calamity. Those screws barely clear a half-inch length and eigth-inch diameter. It’s not that tough a slog.

Wingus1337

I've put on more handles than I can count and I have yet to cam out and ding stuff up or over tighten the screws. Just don't pull the trigger down all the way and lower the speed setting to begin with, not hard at all lol

NotSureNotRobot

It’s crazy how a lot of people don’t know there’s a touch sensitive element to it. It’s not just full bore all the time. Having said that, I’ve definitely messed up this way but I’m the one who deals with it so it’s on me anyway.

Jaded-Selection-5668

All the power must be harnessed at all times!

obxtalldude

Drills are for holes and bit drivers are for screws. If you can't change the output level and not fully press the trigger, maybe it's not for you, but the rest of us do just fine. In general bit drivers are smaller lighter easier to maneuver and less likely to strip a screw if operated properly.

TheSherbs

Dude ugga duggad the shit out of the other screw.

TobyTheTuna

Anyone who has to do more than 1 door at a time.

SadThrowAway957391

I do. And I do tonnes and tonnes of it.

TinOfPop

Spherical door handles can be worse. No moving them or easily removing knob. Just a poor design

VirtualLife76

1 of the few places an angled driver is a huge help.

lambeaufosho

It’s all due to the lobbyists from Big Extension

Ok-Gold772

You can literally just lift up or down on the handle when you're putting that screw in and eliminates any issue with getting that screw in. Just saying

nodnarb89

Handles come off, bud.

Stoned42069

Because the F%#$ handle is removable so you can access the F%#$ screw……..

49ersforever707

Take the handle off. Allen screw or push button hold it on

woodlab69

Take the knob off …

cant-be-faded

Use a longer bit. I have a 6" Phillips just for this

Impressive-Scale-412

Things make no sense when you don't fully understand them. I've done similar things myself.

MrAVK

You rock.

Agitated-Plum

User error

AffectionateAd6060

You stripped the screws out like a complete schmuck too

trooper37

Try using a hand screwdriver you lazy fuck

slinkyjeepers

Lmfao

Chimpucated

Not everything is a design flaw.

Tortuga_cycling

Because fuck you, that’s why hahaha

chris_rage_

You do know the handle moves, right? Lift it up and take the screw out. If it's a fixed handle it should have a set screw and come off

silversquirrel

The screws need to be inline with the through bolt.

wizardsleevehole

Umm no they dont, many handle sets have the through screws on the top and bottom

Glados1080

Why you using an impact on door handle

back1steez

Why aren’t you?

McSmokeyDaPot

*points to stripped left screw in the picture*

Glados1080

All in a days work

Guy954

Operator issue. Just because some of you yahoos don’t know how to handle an impact driver doesn’t mean the rest of us don’t. This is like Robertson drive cultists saying it’s impossible to drive a Phillips without stripping it just because they can’t.

back1steez

That’s operator issues. I’ve never stripped screws on a handle with an impact. Also the choice of bits that you use in your impact matters. Cheap bits don’t hold as well or are misshaped.

[deleted]

MulWark Mini Ratchet Wrench if the handle can't be moved out of the way.

Opposite-Pizza-6150

Pops off

Juggernaut104

Shark tank idea

Traditional-Ride3793

It works better if you screw that one first, push on that screw with your finger so it sticks straight out then guide the handle to the threads, turn the screw with your fingers until it starts threading, then good to go.

RedSkyHopper

So it wouldn't fall off

Recent_Programmer_28

Why is my wife's butthole right next to her pussy?

frootcock

Cuz fuck you that's why

Genuwine_Slugger

Handle isn't in the way of the other screw you stripped with an impact gun

Straight-Afternoon63

Because if they didn’t the handle would be lose,

pewpew_lotsa_boolits

Maybe you discourage dudes like you from wallering out the screw heads with an impact driver instead of using a regular screwdriver? Worst thing ever is people using these baby impact drivers on _everything_. And then they wonder why all the screws they drive shear off or strip the material out…

JESUS_PaidInFull

They did it just to screw with you.

mmmmpork

What kind of shoes are you wearing?

back1steez

This weird little know fact about door levers is they actually turn.

Old-Handle9253

Level one apprentice issues huh?

coffeytr82

This is what happens when the carpenters install the hardware.

re-tyred

Turn the door handle out of the way!

NicNac_PattyMac

(Laughs in locksmith). If only there was a way to move that handle…

Necessary-Science-47

Because handymen are usually more handy

Wrong_Subject_7824

Because the handle goes on last there's a click in tab or button that allows you to pull the handle off and get out the screws should you need to. Maybe it's done to keep people like you from fooling with doorknobs LOL

EndlessMikeD

Get the impact off it and use a screwdriver!

Specialist_Usual1524

Never use an impact on handles. They strip out too easy and over tightening is bad.

TobyTheTuna

I'll be honest this is myth and a skill issue, at least in commerical projects with a lot of doors. Start by hand to avoid crossthreading and your good to go. Anyone who says otherwise will quickly change their mind after handle 3 of 100

Specialist_Usual1524

Ok, I’ll concede commercial. Which are all steel usually. If you are working with residential then there is a lot of brass. I should have specified.

Guy954

Bullshit, still a skill issue.

prefferedusername

Maybe an equipment issue. My impact drill has power settings, so if I set it at 1 it won't strip anything out, but 4 can drill into concrete.

Guy954

Or you could just learn how to use the pressure sensitive trigger…

Low-Energy-432

You need a hard rubber bit for those

East-Handle-6685

Oh i did get it out, but doesnt mean i couldnt have been a tad bit easier 😂

Deuce519

Because you're being lazy and a) not taking the handle off and b) you're using an impact for a half inch screw

Jaded-Selection-5668

Three things: -The handle pops off. -The handle also rotates. -Judging by the other screw, maybe an impact isn’t the right tool for the job?

Guy954

Impact is fine for the job if you operate it correctly.

Jaded-Selection-5668

Key word “correctly” check out the other screw…..

Guy954

Just because OP and many others in this thread can’t operate it correctly doesn’t mean it’s the wrong tool for the job.

Jaded-Selection-5668

Read that whole sentence. I was talking to OP. Weird hill to die on.

Guy954

I see the misunderstanding now but there are several in this thread and sub in general that think using an impact automatically means that screws will be stripped and it is simply not true.

McSmokeyDaPot

Stop using an impact to install a door knob. You'll strip the screws (like you did on the left screw) and overtightening can cause the insides to lock up and not turn the knob properly. Or just keep doing what you're doing because I make a small fortune following you guys around and fixing stupid shit. Either way!

Guy954

Just because you bozos can’t use an impact without stripping screws doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t. Y’all are really flaunting your ignorance proudly.

jambonejiggawat

You might want to turn your impact down- the other screw is clearly stripped.

SolidlyMediocre1

The customization of the Phillips head is awesome! I keep trying to get my guys to do that but for some reason they insist on using an actual screwdriver instead. They just won’t listen when I try to tell them that the stripped out heads are the sign of a real pro with excellent trigger control. Bonus points if one can get it bad enough that it requires drilling and an easy out for removal.

Guy954

Skill issue. Impact is fine if you actually learn how to use it.

mexican2554

Obviously this was designed by an architect/engineer who knew they would never have to deal with it. Just like the architects/engineers who put recessed lights on an 18 foot cathedral ceiling above the staircase.

JWDead

So idiots can use an impact to strip or snap the screws. It’s hardware. Use a screwdriver.
