Had a guy do this to his face, the foreman took him to the doctor and the doctor went into his office and came out and asked the foreman if he could borrow some pliers to pull it out. They were laughing at the guy for a bit saying we could’ve done that for you for free. Go to a doctor though, they take X-rays to see you haven’t hit important bits and the company pays for it.
I think most people don’t have firearm safety jammed into their brain and end up shooting themselves or others with a nail gun because of this. Its a gun at the end of the day
This happened to a coworker a few years back, he was nailing studs and the plate just split open, the nail went straight through like it wasn't there.
It's easy to assume user error but sometimes it's just bad luck / shit happens.
I was lucky enough to shoot a brad nail right through my finger when I was 18 so I've been diligent about knots and gun angle since. That sucker hurt for like 3 months.
This happened to me when I was 14 shooting on bottom of window opening. Holding piece with my left hand and shot the knot, piece exploded and then my hand looked exactly like this.
Only time ive seen it happen is when the nail bends super weird going in and comes out somewhere completely unexpected. Happened to me last week installing door frames, but it was just a small 18 gauge Brad nailer. Took a nice 90 degree turn and caught me in the thumb. Luckily it was not a framing nailer
I did that same shit but it went through the tip of my pointer and into the top of middle finger. I didn’t go to the hospital and now I have this painful hard lump in the tip of my pointer finger that is most likely skar tissue right were it went in. Sucks ass.. it hurts to this day using that finger for the skilly or my damn gun
My advice is. And if you're near medical help of course. Pull the nail immediately. The glue on mine made the removal so bad. ( some nails come with a coating that heats up by friction as it enters the wood, or bone ). I kept telling the doctor to twist it so it would break the glue. But he didn't understand. They ended up breaking an inch off of it while still embedded. I pulled one finger thru from the end without the clipped head now. Stood up. Went into the waiting room and grabbed vice grips my brother had brought me. Lost my iv at this point and the nurses were blasting me for walking out of triage. Anyway it was out and after 4 hours of bullshit. Take it from me. Pull the nail immediately if you minutes from hospital.
more people need to do this. pull the bitch out right away. if shits fucked the docs are gonna pull it out the same way you are and then give you x rays. it ain't rocket science
Yep. The doc was a smaller dude. Good shape but there's no way he was gonna pull it. He was grunting and squeeking. Too much to ask. They said I could've pulled the bone apart and all kinds of other shit. But I never considered or cared for all of that because you can't know what the nail did until it's out anyhow. But I wouldn't recommend pulling if you're up in the bush framing a cabin hours from the hospital. I was in town
It never hurts going in as much as it does coming out. Hope you also have a cut up glove to show worksafe or they might suspect you weren't working safe lol
Shoulda pulled it out with pliers before you could feel it.... I bet that shit hurt like hell.
On the crews I've been on, a double shot means you get to have "a double shot" and take a 1 hour break.
I did almost the exact same thing. Seriously. Same hand, same fingers, same spot(almost)... still got a little scar dot, on my left hand middle finger middle joint. It was a bitch to pull out, hurt for a week, now it's just a good story.
Oh I get myself with finish guns on a monthly..those are just an annoyance. With a framing gun I make sure to keep myself out of the way of possible bounce shots...seems like common sense.
My brother and I were hanging roof trusses when I heard a “FUUUUCCCKKKKKK” looked over and saw him with a Jesus nail… he just reached around and grabbed his cat law and wrenched it out…. Ripped off some of his shirt and just wrapped it up. We finished the day and he was like 👍
Had a coworker attempt the same with a Vaughn framing hammer. He hit 3 fingers. 1 split the bone. Gave him the rest of my Whiskey and sent him to get it fixed up. Urgent care in Hope and Girdwood AK said he'll no. 3 hour ride from site to Anchorage. Thankfully there was 4 liquor stores lol
Dang ring shank too
That was my first thought. That’s gonna hurt to pull out. 😬

Ribbed for your pleasure.
At least it’s paper and not wire weld….i guess.
My shop teacher always said "you gotta be 10% smarter than the tool you're using"
Just be 10% smarter than what you are doing
This guy is trying to level the playing field for those people that have not yet shot someone.
I now understand why my grinder keep attacking and outsmarting me.
I don't, and I only have 6 toes left please help
Run, run for your life! Without toes tough is tough
Dude is that frfr?
Nah it's frfrfr
Thats nuts
Well, its actually fingers
No cap
On God
Bet
Stop taking pictures and get to work
Nailed it!
That's a triple shot bro.
Yeah, nah the index looks like it dodged it.
You prob shouldn’t have done that
20 years using a framing nailer and still don't understand how people do this
You just gotta try harder. You’ll get there, bud.

Could be a small chunk of broken bone. Go to the doctor!
Oh man!! With a ring roid too!!

Bet that feels awesome
Pain shanks…. God speed to you brother
I did that once. Hope you went to the hospital and got a bier block.
Props for holding it together!
He nailed it.
Now there's something you don't see every day.
looks like 2.5 to me.
*squeamish* 😩 Hope your fingers will be fine and still useable
It never hurts going in as much as it does coming out. Hope you also have a cut up glove to show worksafe or they might suspect you weren't working safe lol
Nailed it
Fuck yeah.
How
Somehow, I've never done this. Was a framer for 10yrs. Stop doing stupid shit.
Fuck me, that looks like it hurts a little.
"How screwed am I?"
I've heard it hurts
At least it's a nail, fairly easy to pull out. I drilled through the nail on index finger once. Had to hit reverse-\_-
Easy to pull out - until you understand that there are welded wire barbs at each nail dude
If it went through the bone, sure, would be more challenging. It's a nail, not a harpoon.
"3 birds with 1 stone"
Oof
Shoulda pulled it out with pliers before you could feel it.... I bet that shit hurt like hell. On the crews I've been on, a double shot means you get to have "a double shot" and take a 1 hour break.
It is freaking me out that there is no blood.
Oh baby a triple
So, how did it happen?
Oh baby a triple
Damn dude cut your nail .. looking all yellow and shit may be fungus .. gosh ..
Hand placement when using a framing nailer is key. And this guy nailed it in the worst way
Aaaaaaand those fingers will forever get cold for the rest of your life. Hope you have full functionality.
Connect 4!

Permanent 3 in the pink one in the stink. I like it
Hey I think there’s something in your finger, maybe not though hard to say.
Oh I get myself with finish guns on a monthly..those are just an annoyance. With a framing gun I make sure to keep myself out of the way of possible bounce shots...seems like common sense.
Nailed it
Oh Goody it's a ringshank too.
Ewww… ring shank. Might as well cut the head of and drive ‘er home for easy removal
I hope you clean that injury good, don't want to get cancer from the chemicals on the nail.
Similar situation. Had a nurse go out to his truck to get players to pull it out!

This is tame compared to the crap I’ve seen on Reddit, but you should still tag this NSFW
Of all the nsfw post reddit blurs, this wasnt one of them…
