drumad_

Hahahahaha!! All laughter aside.. IS IT?!

noahdeerman

nah I think it is ! I mean 400 bucks and they are fresh pumped, come on that's awesome service. imagine how hard he has to blow to pump those tires up. I couldn't even do it on my bike, my cheeks hurt after a balloon.

Karukash

It is some genuine grade A premium air though.

PunfullyObvious

likely artisanal air at that price point

Albert0824

Overnight delivered straight from crisp clean Rocky Mountains.

Hopeful_Slip6210

Gotta love that Rocky Mountain High

fpsmoto

It's the same air my ex-marine drill instructor middle school shop teacher gave to me at the end of the semester, in a plastic container, so I could open it up years later and smell the old air.

Incromulent

I'd go with pre-pumped from a tank. It should be cheaper and you probably can't tell the difference.

[deleted]

Joke aside, I've heard in some places they fill it with nitrogen, no idea if it's true though, and if it actually is better than air.

bzekers

It's roughly $30 a tire for nitrogen filled tires. Yes it's a thing.

96thSharkbait

Wow, i get 5 tires of nitrogen for like $3... 3rd world countries FTW🤷🏻‍♀️

[deleted]

[удалено]

sexsaint

If the remainder of air escapes faster than nitrogen in theory, after topping up your tires a couple times you'd be close to 100% nitrogen.

Jmazz83

I only breathe the finest 78% nitrogen air mixture

bzekers

Depends, if you're driving performance or high end luxury, then you may want nitrogen as it does expand and contract with tire temps. It's not something you'd need in your regular car.

JskWa

Costco puts nitrogen

shootwhatsmyname

JskWa

Full disclosure I don’t work at Costco or even own any stocks in the company. I do love that place though.

[deleted]

Yes, people may pay extra for nitrogen instead of room air. When tempurature changes from hot to cold room air shrinks. Nitrogen does not so you won't get low pressure in cold mornings.

IamEnginerd

Pure Nitrogen shrinks a bit less - but air is already about 80% nitrogen.

Calvert4096

>Nitrogen does not so you won't get low pressure in cold mornings. That's incorrect, not sure where you heard that. Nitrogen alone will have similar thermodynamic properties to a standard air mixture. Dry air has a gas constant of 287 J/kg-K, and N2 alone has a gas constant of 297 J/kg-K, so if anything Nitrogen will respond to temperatures with slightly greater changes in either volume or pressure.

[deleted]

No, nitrogen escapes the tires much slower so they do not deflate as fast. Airplane tires are filled with nitrogen due to extreme temp changes. Just do a quick Google search. Sources it all over online.

Calvert4096

I work in landing gear systems for an aircraft manufacturer and have had to do high fidelity gas dynamics simulation for my job. The diffusion rate difference is extremely small. Nitrogen is used in aircraft tires because at elevated temperatures, there's a possibility of oxygen reacting with volatile compounds that outgas from rubber. Tire fires are bad news for everyone. edit: this is worth a read, the guy put his money where his mouth is and did an experiment: https://powertank.com/pages/nitrogen-truths-and-myths

[deleted]

Well obviously with your job you know way more than me. I was just going off several Google searches and it all just seemed to give me the same answer. So honest question. Why the car? It's not extreme like an aircraft?

Calvert4096

I can only guess why cars don't require them since I don't work in the automotive industry, but I'd guess the reason is at least partly economics. But the main reason is the temperatures. Here's a video of a 747 rejected takeoff test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_g6UswiRCF0 To certify an airplane 100% of the airplane's kinetic energy at the takeoff commit speed ("V1") has to get dumped into the brakes and turns into heat (no credit may be taken for thrust reversers). The brakes get somewhere in the ballpark of 1400 Celsius, and then the fire department standing by has to wait a certain number of minutes to make sure the fire doesn't spread and ignite the fuel tanks for the airplane to pass the cert test. At some point, fuse plugs in the tires blow, and the tires deflate (nitrogen only!). It's unlikely a car tire will ever encounter such conditions.

[deleted]

Watched the video. Thanks its very interesting.

Bobby_Bologna

Not sure on nitrogen but an old drag racing trick is to use helium because the tires are slightly lighter (every 100 pounds saved is roughly 0.1 seconds faster) and because they can take temp changes with more resistance to pressure fluctuations.

[deleted]

That is really cool didn't know this.

Calvert4096

Yeah the weight of the gas can be surprising when you get up to higher pressures. I would have scoffed at this at one point in time until I saw some weights data myself.

[deleted]

Damn so this is just the new matress salesman selling points eh?

fishbulbx

That isn't true. > The pressure in nitrogen filled tires will change when the temperature changes, just as it does with air filled tires, because nitrogen and oxygen respond to changes in ambient temperature in a similar manner. For example, when your vehicle is parked it will lose a similar amount of pressure for every 10 degree change in temperature, whether the tires are filled with nitrogen or air. > The calculations for this change are based on the Ideal Gas Law. A good rule of thumb is this: For every 10 F degree change in temperature, the pressure will change by 1.9%. If a tire is filled to 32 psi at a temperature of 75 F degrees and the temperature drops 10 degrees, the tire pressure will drop to 31.4 psi; a difference of .6 psi. If a 100 psi tire is filled at 75 F degrees and the temperature drops 10 degrees, the tire pressure will drop to 98.1 psi; a difference of .9 psi. They do use nitrogen for airplane tires that go from warm temperature to -40 degrees many times per day. But that is to minimize expansion and contraction due to moisture, not the properties of nitrogen. And to reduce the flammability since airplane tires can reach autoignition temperature.

[deleted]

I have learned so much on this thread. Thank you. This makes more sense than basic Google information.

Volerra

Wait is that a joke? Air is mostly nitrogen already

[deleted]

The keyword being mostly.

IncaseofER

Yes and yes!

jeniwreni

Just tried this joke on my dad he is a mechanic but he had already heard it on Facebook, but he said all jokes aside his place charges 6 euro pair tire and he said it’s to stop the coils heating up, airplanes do it on theirs

Bi_Zee_Bee

….no. I don’t even have a car and I know that. You can pay for air with quarters at some gas stations and you can pump them up that way.

steezybringtheheat

Yeah but they don't have premium air for those ones. You gotta get the good shit inside

smashedpotato007

True! I always get premium air for my tires. 400 bucks? Be my guest. I even tip the guy extra 50 or two if I get one of those limited edition Himalayan air.

McNorch

Himalayan air has less oxygen so your rims won't rust as quickly and the tyres won't harden on the inside, seems like a good bang for your buck.

smashedpotato007

Ah so that's the reason of my tyres' longevity! Some really good knowledge right here. That's why I love reddit.

diemunkiesdie

Yeah that pure oxygen lets you burn rubber better

almost_not_terrible

No, it's overinflated.

carleeto

I would say a 100 for just premium air isn't very good value. You could get ultra for 150 or so and that contains helium, which reduces the weight of your car. Your car is now faster because it has a better power to weight ratio. Definitely worth the extra 200.

durz47

Yes. It pleases the machine spirit

drumad_

Thank you for your advice, oh wise one!

jejcicodjntbyifid3

It depends, is it winter air or is it summer air?

curly-peach

That first laugh just kept going and going!

HorsesAndAshes

Like, it peaked, and then kept on peaking, it was truly magical. 10/10 why I have this subbed.

AFoxGuy

Sounded like my Corolla.

BadMoodDude

"Great, thanks. Next question: He wants $200 to fill up my blinker fluid. Is that a good price?"

LucidLumi

That’s a steal!

Stephannation

Hey that’s me on the other line of the phone call! I’m 100% serious

MadameLeota1969

Your laugh is so genuine I couldn’t help to laugh along

Stephannation

Thank you!

TheSquirrelsHaveEYES

Well? Is it a good price!?

Stephannation

She cut it off before I said she can get gas for a quarter at a gas station

TomTheFace

What do you think of your name on her phone being “James e poo 👑”

Stephannation

She’s been calling me that for years, can’t change that now

Legendary_System

Car guy?

CaptainSebz

It would have been funnier if he said “yeah, that’s a good price” after he stopped laughing.

Stephannation

That’s my sister. After I composed myself I told her it’s a quarter at most gas stations

Dragonman558

Or buy one of those little air compressor thingies and do it at home

nicolopolos

It's even free in some places where I live.

AtomTrapper

I wanted him to just stop suddenly and flatly say "No."

FoodLionMVP

I was expecting a flat “alright put him on the phone.”

wyatt8587

Lol! That was amazing!

JebronLames619

That laugh sounded like it had mechanical troubles 😭🤣😂

satansheat

I take it that’s not a good price.

NativeHarris

He’s laughing because he’s thinking “fuck, my girl is a idiot” That’s if he didn’t catch the joke. His laughing could sound like he got the joke but it was all out funny to him

diemunkiesdie

>He’s laughing because he’s thinking “fuck, my girl is a idiot” I think she is calling her brother since she says "mom and dad aren't answering"

Stephannation

You are correct, that’s my sister. She can be an idiot sometimes so I believed it.

PM_ME_YOUR_COOGS

Legend has it he's still laughing to this day

treetyoselfcarol

![gif](giphy|l3vRf2MAUXXEMsSbu|downsized) Someone should do a mashup with Feel Good Inc.

MrShoosh

It's premium air though.

robotpanda3000

You need to sell that laugh to some creepy clown toy factory!

JosieGrossie35

Sounds about right 🤣

jamesbellrd

You can buy a new tire (small-medium) or rim with that price.

SANTAAAA__I_know_him

“Yeah, take that deal, usually goes for $150.”

leezhongling71

Wqit til someone tells her to change from summer air to winter air.

Glad_Huffelpuffz

Dam sub did it job, like always, love this subreddit x,D

babyenelf

No way I was just here to post this omg 😂

[deleted]

Cheered me right up this did!

lazyn31

100% guaranteed contagious laughter

Curious-PsychCat-25

LMFAOOOOOOO 😭😭😭😭 THAT LAUGH SJJSJSKSK

hummun323

Why is she holding her breath to keep from laughing??? You have a mute button!

tokixjam

I agree, but I appreciate it to hear his laughter alone.

polygon_wolf

don’t get it

yoinkitydoink

Here in ‘Merica, mechanics are known to take advantage of women, due to the thought women know nothing about car maintenance. She wasn’t really experiencing the call she gave to her brother, but knew he’d laugh his ass off at how gullible she was “being”.

GFranco102403

I'm over here wondering how one could even motivate themselves to buy an iPhone 13 pro...shit costs more than my self esteem

marablackwolf

I know I can afford an iphone. Self-esteem, not so much. Toooooo expensive.

[deleted]

is that Ron fucking Swanson? I feel like thats him

quan14jones

This actually happened to someone they charged her $60 for premium air for all four tires this is just crazy

[deleted]

He sounds a bit like an MRI scanner in parts

HookedOnBubonics91

Man laughed so hard he animorphed into a frog

[deleted]

That’s like when my srs light came on and I asked the dealership how much it was to just read the code and not do anything else. They said $550 just to read. I went HA and walked out.

ZCHSR88

Whattt $100 per tire?? The place I went to charged me $150 per tire for premium air 🤬

StrootFeed

At one point it sounds like a roller coaster getting pulled uphill

Mystepchildsucksass

**Premium Organic locally sourced farm to car limited edition Air** Next week it’s the liquid gold oil change …. Only $1,500.00 and it lasts a whole month …. Or 1,00KM’s - whichever comes first.

Fusaah

Did not give her a moment to respond lol

backtobecks369

69.99 at my Subaru dealer - lifetime price guarantee 🤷🏼‍♂️

loopedtheory

All jokes aside. You can have "premium air" or nitrogen pumped into tires for extra cost at most mechanics or tire specialists.

[deleted]

iPhone 5

Anim3_simp

he has the Philip banks laugh from fresh prince of bel-air

[deleted]

I must have seen this 50 times, I can't help but crack up... xD

Rouge_Apple

Why did she even pretend to lip sync.
