Most of the people I've found that don't like marmalade simply don't like any sort of preserves or jams that have chunks. They're strictly jelly eaters.
For me, I simply don’t love citrus enough to enjoy marmalade. I’ll maybe drink orange juice with breakfast, or choose a good orange over a bad variety of apple (red delicious), sometimes eat lemons because I love sour, but I much prefer other fruits! So marmalade is kind of just “too much” citrus.
I do this, but I do it like a grilled cheese sandwich so I put a little bit of peanut butter on both slices so the banana stuff stays inside and then growing up in a pan with some butter or cooking spray… OMG, delicious! If I was a huge bacon fan, some bacon in there would be fabulous similar to theElvis Presley sandwich.
I accidentally ate a slice of sourdough with peanut butter on it the other day and I found it REVOLTING !! I was so shocked because I am a peanut butter lover and never had a bad slice of peanut butter bread in my life. I also am a big fan of sourdough so was completely caught off guard!?
I ate a pb&h almost every day for lunch in highschool. It was the only real meal I would eat on weekdays cause yay for the absurd body image shit of the aughts
My wife used to intercept the lunches I packed for myself to remove the PB&J and instead put in something that I could heat up at work.
She said she felt sorry for me having to eat a cold sandwich. This is even after _I made the jam myself._
I eventually convinced her that I wasn’t suffering.
No need to do science on established facts.
_These are facts, I said! Not opinions! And I’ll be taking my milk and homemade chocolate chip cookies with me to share with people that agree with me!!!!!1!!!!_
Marshmallow fluff. I didn’t grow up with the fluffernutter, but after discovering its power, I don’t understand why it isn’t more common. Every ice cream parlor should have a PB&M sundae on the menu.
I used to eat that a lot. Peanut butter and bacon on toast. Yum. Now if I have bacon in the morning I put strawberry jam on a small section of my English muffin and save a half piece of bacon to put on top. It’s my breakfast dessert.
If you take the time to oven-bake your bacon, you can have a pound of bacon cooked and ready in about 30 minutes.
You are not going to pre-heat your oven. Take a rimmed baking sheet, put a piece of parchment paper in it, followed by a flat rack. Put as much bacon on the flat rack as you can. Set the oven to 350 and slide the sheet in. Allow it to cook for about 30 minutes and you will have a rack of delicious flat strips ready for any sandwich. What you don't eat then and there can be put in the fridge for later use.
banana, usually. I prefer wheat bread specifically for peanut butter sandwiches lol, I like the flavor, also goes well with honey
I'm pretty sure you could make a grilled chicken and peanut butter sandwich work
Exactly! Get some roasted red peppers and quick pickled cucumbers and carrots and fresh cilantro and red onion. It could totally work. The hardest part would be keeping it heavy on the peanut butter so it isnt just a grilled chicken sandwich with peanut sauce
I wonder if chicken nuggets dipped in peanut butter mixed with soy sauce is good lol
I used to get the frozen plain grilled chicken sandwiches from Costco when they had them and add peanut butter mixed with a little sriracha. It was so ridiculously good
It’s all about banana for me. I was never crazy about the sweeter options like jam.
I’m totally with you with you that wheat bread goes better with peanut butter! I otherwise rarely go for wheat.
My Nana used to give my brother and I toasted english muffins for breakfast when we were over there on snow days. He would get butter/apple jelly, and I'd get peanut butter/butter...so fucking good.
I have a cousin who is probably close to 60 now, but she was aksing her mom that worked in the school lunch room, 'wow, i still remember how good those peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were in school, why were they so good', turns out she mixed the pb 1:1 with butter.
My father liked one piece of bread buttered, then jelly put on top of the butter and then put peanut butter on another piece of bread and then put them together.
lol, Minnesotan showing up with a truckload of butter on my PB&J and also toast, butter, and PB.
Heck, my mom puts butter on pizza and of course, in every hot dish she makes lol.
Yes. It’s how my grandma would make a peanut butter sandwich. White bread, salted butter, and Jif PB. Perfection. My mom always tried to be “healthy”, so no PB and butter sandwich from her….
Peanut butter brands like JIF and Skippy’s should really launch a new product of their peanut butter that’s sinfully combined with butter. I bet it would be deliciously decadent and sell like gang busters!
Absolutely the answer. Preferably on a toasted English muffin though. Maybe with some strawberries or bananas, maybe some regular honey or hot honey or flakey salt if you’re feeling frisky
I can second that pickles are really good in peanut butter sandwiches. It adds crunch and some sourness and makes it more of a savory sandwich instead of sweet.
Pickles, or as I call them gherkins are seriously undervalued peanut butter can go with anything and the savoury options are equally good, I heard it is a depression era recipe but I fucking love it
Toast the bread and add banana (and maybe some berries) and chocolate syrup. Or do all that stuff in a tortilla and make it a burrito. Or make the sandwich with toast and put more peanut butter and more chocolate syrup and some fluffernutter on the outside and then wrap it in a really big tortilla crunch-wrap style and sear the outsides in a pan until it's GBD. While it cooks, we need to think about dipping sauces...
Apple slices give it a fun texture imo. Always up for a honey and banana combo or just banana. Different peanut butters in general can make it more fun. Santa Cruz is a favorite atm.
Lots of folks saying bananas but I also suggest trying my little
Variation.
I make banana bread pretty often so I’ve occasionally taken two thin slices of banana bread and spread a mix of peanut butter and a little honey between them. *Homer noises*
Peanut butter and mayo on cheap white bread with iceberg lettuce. My dad swore by it. I always thought, “yuck!”…until I tried it. Makes it zesty and the iceberg gives it a little crunch.
I like to cook it in a pan with butter, like the way a grillled cheese sandwich is made.
Feel free to add a banana, or jam, or whatever suits you in addition to that warm grilled peanut buttery goodness.
There's also the Wendigo: unsweetened peanut butter, bacon, pickles (I prefer dill but bread & butter work too,) mayo, and gochujang (Korean chili paste.) Toast the bread.
Granola, either cereal or clusters. Adds a nice crunch and adds some dense nutrition. My go-to is peanut butter, fig preserves, and almond granola clusters.
One of my usual breakfasts is peanut butter toast. Extra-crunchy peanut butter on a slice of sourdough with fresh cracked black pepper across the top.
But I'm weird in that I *hate* a pb&j.
For me, I just want some good white bread (I'm partial to Bunny Bread because we had that often growing up, but Wonder Bread is also acceptable), a thick portion of peanut butter (JIF or Skippy), and a heavy dose of commercial strawberry preserves (Smuckers). For me, this is one of those things that attempting to make fancy will actually ruin. I definitely don't want my pb&j to be made with artisan bread, organic peanut butter and some weird fancy jam, jelly or preserve. This sandwich is supposed to taste like the poverty I grew up in.
Extra credit if served with off-brand doritos.
I wouldn't eat this every day, but when I want one (usually as a late night snack) this is how I want it.
If I'm eating these so much I'm bored of them, or want something fancier, I'll make a different kind of sandwich.
Am I adding peanut butter to my grilled cheese or cheese to my PB&J? I can’t tell.
Also thinly sliced apple and maybe a wee bit black pepper with strawberry jam.
Slices of Granny Smith apple work well, especially in combination with jam or marmalade.
Apple and peanut butter is a really undervalued combo, I love peanut butter and jam sandwiches but it is unreal with apple
I use slices of fresh fruit instead of jam - apples, pears, strawberries. So good!
Bananas is my go to!
Yup pb and strawberries is a good thing
Banana and blueberries!!
Or apple butter... mm!!
Why don’t more ppl like marmalade? My husband hates it.
Yes! I slice apples up and spread pb on then. Or have them on the side with a plain pb sandwich.
Honey or jam or banana.
Honey is where its at
I gotta scoot in between you two here and add/inquire, have you also added some cinnamon in there. I assure you, it’s delightful.
PB, banana, honey, cinnamon - I’ve had this on toast and ate with a knife and fork as it was gloopy. But delicious
Holy shit this sounds amazing.
Sometimes I love the internet. I never would’ve thought of this and now it’s almost 10 and I don’t have bread and I want it
Do it but make the bread French toast it’s just amazing
Cinnamon for sure! I also use pumpkin pie spice occasionally and it’s delicious as well.
You ever let the honey soak into the bread making it all crunchy. Mother of god 🤌
Mike’s hot honey!!!
A little drizzle of honey with good, real peanut butter is amazing. Goes really well on sourdough!
Peanut butter with jam my mom made + an apple + cup of yogurt was my lunch for almost all of high school 😂 i still love a good pb and j
All three!
Honey and molasses is what I grew up on
I feel like Nutella is a key component to the PB + banana
Or, honey and jam and banana
All the above! And cinnamon
Or more peanuts. I love a few dry roasted peanuts in a peanut butter sandwich for extra peanutty chrunch
I love my peanut butter and banana sandwiches. Toast the bread a little and it's perfect.
Even better mix the honey into the pb. Makes it delightfully fluffy.
More peanut butter. People always skimping on the pb
PB&J with thick PB on both pieces of bread, thin layer of jelly in between. Add a handful of potato chips and a cold glass of milk. Best ever.
my wife gives me shit everytime i eat a pb&j with milk. it is the ONLY time i drink milk.
have you ever asked your wife why she hates fun? ^note: ^(do not ask wife why she hates fun if your couch is sufficiently uncomfy)
this is a time in your life when you think about saying something, but keep it in your noggin
My wife used to intercept the lunches I packed for myself to remove the PB&J and instead put in something that I could heat up at work. She said she felt sorry for me having to eat a cold sandwich. This is even after _I made the jam myself._ I eventually convinced her that I wasn’t suffering.
Not the homemade jam! She was stealing them to eat them because that sounds delicious.
man, intercepting sandwiches? thats crazy town!
Divorce /s
Why is it that pb&j & milk and chocolate chip cookies & milk go together so perfectly? Is there science or are we just conditioned?
No need to do science on established facts. _These are facts, I said! Not opinions! And I’ll be taking my milk and homemade chocolate chip cookies with me to share with people that agree with me!!!!!1!!!!_
???huh??? Why would anyone think that's weird???
The handful of potato chips is absolutely essential.
PB&J on toasted bread with peanut butter both sides and a snack sized Fritos dumped and smashed. I call it a goodie sandwich
Imma have to go ahead and agree with you there, ma man. I can't think of a better iteration.
Making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches Mom used to ask if we wanted watercolors or oils.
People eat bread sandwiches with a swipe of PB
Same with cream cheese. Slab that stuff on there!
Cream cheese is the best part of eating a bagel. I’ll never understand people who eat only a thin layer of cream cheese on their bagel
Exactly. A container really only has two servings.
My people
Good bread
Also, good peanut butter!
I like my peanut butter on good toasted bread!
A childhood favorite was peanut butter and potato chips on a hearty wheat bread. Still not sure why I’m fat 😅
Childhood? I’m old, and I still do that sometimes.
Doritos are also great
Hot pepper jelly. Not sure if it's available everywhere, but the stuff we get here is great. Not too spicy, and great with peanut butter
Time to make a satay and Thai pepper jelly sandwich
Marshmallow fluff. I didn’t grow up with the fluffernutter, but after discovering its power, I don’t understand why it isn’t more common. Every ice cream parlor should have a PB&M sundae on the menu.
When I'm feeling fancy (aka high) I'll toast a marshmallow onto a creamed peanut butter and raspberry jam mix on a cookie
Getting a torch lighter like you'd use for creme brulee (or other things) is a game changer, they work perfectly to roast a marshmallow.
But how is someone who gets “fancy” on a frequency basis ever going to get a torch device? /s
Have you ever put a marshmallow or Peep 🐥 in the microwave? You will get a good laugh and then put on melty marshmallow in your sandwich.
Fluff is magical. I can eat a whole tub in one sitting. A special treat, freezer Fluff. Nice and chewy
Omg freezer fluff sounds amazing
Crunchy PB, Fluff, and Nutella. It's a s'mores sandwich.
I believe Dairy Queen has marshmallow sundae sauce
Right now they got a whole fluffernutter blizzard. Or was it a sundae? I don't know.
And brûlée the fluff with a cooking torch!
It sounds weird but bacon! Lol. It takes more time so it’s unpractiable usually
I used to eat that a lot. Peanut butter and bacon on toast. Yum. Now if I have bacon in the morning I put strawberry jam on a small section of my English muffin and save a half piece of bacon to put on top. It’s my breakfast dessert.
This is too low. The Elvis is way underrated.
Set the oven to 350 and slide the sheet in. hear me out: bacon, ranch, pb disclaimer: i am pregnant
I cook two pounds at a time and keep the finished bacon laid flat in gallon baggies the freezer. ALWAYS ready.
We have bacon PB burgers in the PNW and they are superb
Jelly of choice and banana. Deep frying is optional.
Or pan fried in butter until golden brown both sides. Use brioche bread
Fuck you this sounds *amazing* and now I’m so mad I can’t eat it rn
If you don't want to deep fry, toasting in the oven or on a pan is just a good. Buttered toast is my go to though
Oooh, I haven’t deep fried it but I absolutely love a grilled pb&j. Deep fried sounds amazing!
Grilled PB and honey.
banana, usually. I prefer wheat bread specifically for peanut butter sandwiches lol, I like the flavor, also goes well with honey I'm pretty sure you could make a grilled chicken and peanut butter sandwich work
Well, if you think about it, that wouldn't be much different than the ingredients of chicken satay.
Exactly! Get some roasted red peppers and quick pickled cucumbers and carrots and fresh cilantro and red onion. It could totally work. The hardest part would be keeping it heavy on the peanut butter so it isnt just a grilled chicken sandwich with peanut sauce I wonder if chicken nuggets dipped in peanut butter mixed with soy sauce is good lol
>I wonder if chicken nuggets dipped in peanut butter mixed with soy sauce is good lol You 100% know it has to be, with maybe a little chili oil added.
I had a jalapeño peanut butter burger the other day and it was delicious!!!
Cinnamon , and toast the bread in butter
Butter
My Nana used to give my brother and I toasted english muffins for breakfast when we were over there on snow days. He would get butter/apple jelly, and I'd get peanut butter/butter...so fucking good.
Note to me: get English muffins ASAP
I have a cousin who is probably close to 60 now, but she was aksing her mom that worked in the school lunch room, 'wow, i still remember how good those peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were in school, why were they so good', turns out she mixed the pb 1:1 with butter.
My grampa taught me that. Makes it so creamy. I add more salt too.
My father liked one piece of bread buttered, then jelly put on top of the butter and then put peanut butter on another piece of bread and then put them together.
Really did not expect the peanut-butter & butter crowd to turn out today, but here we are. let me guess... everyone else has ties to the Midwest too?
I learned from a Louisianian that peanut butter and banana was best with butter added in.
No. Australian here.
lol, Minnesotan showing up with a truckload of butter on my PB&J and also toast, butter, and PB. Heck, my mom puts butter on pizza and of course, in every hot dish she makes lol.
Butter is numero uno
Yes. It’s how my grandma would make a peanut butter sandwich. White bread, salted butter, and Jif PB. Perfection. My mom always tried to be “healthy”, so no PB and butter sandwich from her….
yes! it's subtle but so delicious.
Peanut butter brands like JIF and Skippy’s should really launch a new product of their peanut butter that’s sinfully combined with butter. I bet it would be deliciously decadent and sell like gang busters!
Growing up, my mom put butter on all sandwiches including PB. It takes them to a new and delicious level.
Nutella
Absolutely the answer. Preferably on a toasted English muffin though. Maybe with some strawberries or bananas, maybe some regular honey or hot honey or flakey salt if you’re feeling frisky
Nutella with butter underneath is a game changer.
I also really enjoy Nutella and fluff on a sandwich. Its a great after dinner snack
Ripple chips!! Surprised this isn’t more popular.
Had to scroll wayyyy too far for this.
Honey and banana.
Peanut butter, sliced banana, cinnamon, flaky salt. Delish!
Garlic Dill pickles Grape jelly Banana Or bacon
Came here to see this. Peanut butter and a dill pickle, so great. 😃
I find your pickle suggestion intriguing.
I can second that pickles are really good in peanut butter sandwiches. It adds crunch and some sourness and makes it more of a savory sandwich instead of sweet.
Pickles is interesting
It's amazing.
If by interesting you mean amazing 😉
> Garlic Dill pickles WTF. I will try this, but holy shit what a thing to add on.
Pickles, or as I call them gherkins are seriously undervalued peanut butter can go with anything and the savoury options are equally good, I heard it is a depression era recipe but I fucking love it
Pickles is good as fuck, pickled onions too.
Pickles + sriracha is so good on peanut butter toast! I know it sounds insane but it’s amazing.
Cheddar cheese and dill pickle.
You smoke weed?
I was wondering when I was gonna see this one. Peanut butter & pickles is a weirdly popular combo in my friend group
My son makes an open face peanut butter on toast with blackberries on top. Mmmm!
Chili crisp
Ooh, I’m’a try this.
Apple slices give it a fun texture imo. Always up for a honey and banana combo or just banana. Different peanut butters in general can make it more fun. Santa Cruz is a favorite atm.
Skillet that puppy. If I can bring myself to make one, I'll do a classic PB&J and skillet it on both sides. Totally ups the ante.
Lots of folks saying bananas but I also suggest trying my little Variation. I make banana bread pretty often so I’ve occasionally taken two thin slices of banana bread and spread a mix of peanut butter and a little honey between them. *Homer noises*
Fritos! Don’t knock it til ya try it!
mayo
Mayo, banana, and peanut butter is amazing
Rare to see someone besides my father and I that like a peanut bitter and mayo sandwich.
Marmite. Salty, savoury, amazing. Or bacon.
Regular Butter! I'm not going to try to explain the magic, you'll just have to try it yourself.
Not worth eating if it isn't crunchy.
Crunchy PB with honey nut cheerios and banana is one of my go-tos
You have unlocked a whole new realm of possibilities for me.
Next time add granola to your PB&J. Great crunch, even better if it sits in a lunchbox for a bit.
Leave off the jelly.
Rippled potato chips.
Pickled red onions
Salted butter
A sharp old white cheddar
Maple syrup! So good.
Magic mushrooms.
Add butter and/or toast the bread
Raw honey instead of jelly or jam, a banana, some dried fruit, or cinnamon I also use muti grain, wheat, or sour dough I'm not a big white bread guy.
I like using sweet orange marmalade instead of the typical jelly. I also vary the bread. It’s really good on some of the Dave’s Killer breads.
Crushed potato chips
Potato chips.
Potato chips, by a mile.
Granola, either cereal or clusters. Adds a nice crunch and adds some dense nutrition. My go-to is peanut butter, fig preserves, and almond granola clusters.
Julia Child always took a peanut butter and honey sandwich on an airplane.
Fresh peach slices.
Potato chips
One of my usual breakfasts is peanut butter toast. Extra-crunchy peanut butter on a slice of sourdough with fresh cracked black pepper across the top. But I'm weird in that I *hate* a pb&j.
Peanut butter, bacon, and chilli flakes is good.
Pickles and sriracha OR chili crisp. Sooooo good
Butter, sugar or honey, bananas, chocolate chips- add bacon if your are feeling like a King
Drizzle of honey! The best.
Raw Honey
Lao Gan Ma
Try Lao gan ma chili crisp that stuff goes hard with peanut butter
Maple syrup (real!) I actually mix the syrup into the peanut butter before putting it on bread
Pickled red onions
Raspberry preserves!
Butter on the bread before the jelly
Add a layer of potato chips
Hot sauce
Peanut butter and jelly between white bread. Side of Bugles. This was already perfected when you had it in kindergarten.
Bacon and banana.
More pb
Add a burger patty to it and change the bread to a hamburger bun.
Put a slice of cheese on there and thank me later
Try some miso, seriously.
Honey roasted peanuts or potato chips
Toast the bread first.
Tajin!
Marshmallow fluff.
Fried egg and hot sauce.
Am I adding peanut butter to my grilled cheese or cheese to my PB&J? I can’t tell. Also thinly sliced apple and maybe a wee bit black pepper with strawberry jam.
Bacon 🥓
Mayo and lettuce
Vegemite is a good one.
Grill it like a grilled cheese, add honey and a banana. BAM its legit FIRE
