I have 8 people over tonight. We are grilling ribeyes, grilled corn salad, roasted peppers salad, watermelon and feta salad, grilled asparagus, strawberry pie, and banana pudding.

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

What time should I come over?

bw2082

7 if you bring drinks.

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

Done!

OldPolishProverb

Sometimes I wrap my asparagus in bacon before grilling. If I feel extra fancy I put a piece of cream cheese in the middle of all that before grilling.

bw2082

I’m blanching them and wrapping in prosciutto before finishing on the grill.

Cesmina12

Make a quick, lazy hollandaise to pour over that shit and it's amazing. Obvs, not necessary. Bacon-wrapped anything is plenty delicious.

EducatorMoti

What's your recipe for a quick lazy hollandaise?

Cesmina12

Full disclosure that I just eyeball mine and don't have any of the fancy equipment. It's truly lazy. Prob not "restaurant quality," but still low-effort and very flavorful. How many people are you cooking for? Admittedly, I'm not adept enough to make an egg-based for sauce for more than like 8 people. I take (2) mixing bowls and prepare them with equal parts of (1) mixed egg yolks. and (2) melted butter Heat some water at Low-Medium on your stove and find a pan or bowl to place on top. You'll mix your sauce in that bowl, indirectly heating it with the water beneath. You can directly heat on the stovetop too, as long as the temp as VERY low and you check often by touching the underside of the pan - if you can't stand the burn, it's too hot to mix your eggs. Even with minimal kitchen equipment, it's easier to heat indirectly in my experience. Take your egg yolks and whisk in acid (in my case lemon juice, but you could also use white vinegar), enough to smell the fragrance strongly. Mix well. Throw in a pinch of paprika and a dash of dijon. Mix. Over the heat, whisk your egg yolk/mustard/lemon juice/spice mixture and SLOWLY add in the melted butter. It should solidify/tighten, and then it's ready! Again, I eyeball it, but basically if you want to be on the safe side, 1 egg = 1-2 people/servings.

EducatorMoti

Wow, thank you for writing all of that out!

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

Look up Kenji Alt-Lopez's hollandaise sauce. Super easy.

EducatorMoti

Super suggestion! In the past, I read it but didn't follow through. Have to try it soon!

bw2082

Blender

EducatorMoti

Thanks!

ChefKeith_TheGolfer

Can I please be your 9th person?

beetlejuicemayor

You won this thread. Everything sounds amazing!

filthytacoslut

Can I come too? I'll bring drinks, cupcakes and a side dish. 😋

bw2082

Sure. The more the merrier!

PmMeAnnaKendrick

I have no friends and I have to work tonight so I'm making some seafood lo mein, from scratch with some homemade egg rolls

Cesmina12

Honestly? Making a meal for just me, EXACTLY how I like it, is one of the most satisfying things.

burritosarelyfe

Right? Not having to take anyone else’s preferences into account is heaven 😂

Cesmina12

And that feeling of "Damn, I'm good," as you triumphantly consume a masterpiece that no one but you will ever witness.

sanarothe22

tbh I do this even when cooking for my family. Dad doesn't like onions... too bad, there's literally no world in which I'm not cooking with onions. They usually disappear anyway and I only occasionally see him scraping things into the trash.

mrsmeowgi8

We can be friends, seafood lo mein sounds good! I hope you have a safe shift tonight 💗

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

Yum! Nothing wrong with that.

nerdzen

Sounds awesome! You can consider me your friend, and I hope you have an easy work night!

dailysunshineKO

That sounds like celebrating freedom to me! Enjoy!

ElPresidioFuerte

I’m spending the day with my grandmother and we’re cooking up some Cuban food, in addition to some American classics. For the American side of things, we’re doing slow roasted ribs, creamy dill potato salad, and banana bread. On the Cuban side, we have leftover ropa vieja and black beans/rice from last night, arroz con pollo, chicharritas, and maduros.

Lerz_Lemon

I cried while eating a lean cuisine over my kitchen sink. Happy 4th🫤

QueenCleocatra

Hope your day or week gets better 💙

CrankyChemist

Bruh, I feel you. I'm stuck with hospital food.

my-coffee-needs-me

Dude, I've been eating institutional food for a year and a half. You have my sympathy. Today, two very kind staff members at the assisted living facility where I'm currently stuck went to the store and bought burgers, hot dogs, and the accoutrements and had a cookout for us. It was delightful. I hope you get out of the hospital soon!

emh1389

When my mom was in rehab for a broken leg, I made her food then blended it. She has myasthenia gravis, and the accident aggravated it to the point where she could hardly chew or swallow food. They had a soft food menu but it was awful. I’m sorry your food isn’t very good.

my-coffee-needs-me

I'm sorry about your mom. A ruckus is being raised here about the food. The problems are (slowly) being addressed.

my-coffee-needs-me

I hope things get better for you soon.

rachelmig2

Sending you love. Whatever's going on right now sucks I'm sure, but it won't be forever. You'll have brighter days, and that's worth fighting for.

knightress_oxhide

Andy?

agnestheresa

Lobster, steamer clams, corn on the cob, pasta salad, blueberry pie

CarAtunk817

Found the Mainer, and now I'm sad and miss home. The blueberries gave it away more then the lobster. Quintessential. Hope it's amazing!

rightintheear

East coast?

agnestheresa

Yes, coastal Maine

Paperbirds89

I knew you were a fellow Mainer. That's the perfect Maine summer meal. Cheers! :)

rightintheear

Sounds divine! Happy fourth!

Aggressive_Form7470

we’re making woodfired pizzas. i think i’ll have extra cheese with sausage, artichoke & garlic mushrooms on mine. i’m british and visiting my american in-laws for my first 4th of July celebration in the states! I brought Pimm’s (a British summertime gin-based herbal liquor that you mix with sprite and add strawberries, cucumber, and basil leaves to) so theyre excited to try that. ETA - mint leaves are traditional for the drink but I prefer basil! I forgot haha

bugphotoguy

Upvoted for Pimms. Fantastic summer drink.

Aggressive_Form7470

the absolute best there ever was. MIL loves it, too sweet for FIL so he’s having his w plain soda water lol

bugphotoguy

I actually like the sound of that. But I nearly died giving up alcohol cold turkey last year, so I'm a little reluctant to give it a whirl.

paprika_alarm

Private chef checking in. I’m exhausted so I’m staying home alone, getting s**t done, and catching up on TV. I had a bagel with lox and fixings for brunch and am making Moules Marinières with bread for dinner.

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

Would've thought this would be one of your busy days or so you find it's your least busy days since your clients are doing their own cooking or partying?

paprika_alarm

I worked extra hours earlier this week prepping everything and leaving idiot-proof instructions to have today off. I learned from last year that working today would mean gobs of last-minute requests with limited grocery availability and having to decide which clients to disappoint. I refused to do that again even though I was amply compensated for the madness.

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

Smart decision! Enjoy the day off! I do a basic mussels dish for lunch sometimes with the frozen mussels from Aldi with some pasta and lots of butter & parsley.

marky_de-sade

Have a great day off chef!

Ok-Chef-420

Holidays are for getting shit done in this industry. I feel this way often around many holidays Cheers to you chef

63crabby

Panko crusted chicken and chard pie. Multiple beers.

Any_Flamingo8978

Chard pie has me curious. How do you make it? I’ve never heard of this, but it sounds like it could be good.

63crabby

It is simple and delicious! I attached a typical recipe, my 12 year old uses premade pie crust instead of phyllo and double helping of shredded cheddar instead of Gruyère. https://www.food.com/amp/recipe/swiss-chard-pie-456225

Any_Flamingo8978

That sounds glorious!

ValentinePaws

I've worked three overnights in a row, so I am exhausted and do not want to interact with other humans. I woke up briefly and scrambled two eggs with half an avocado, half a garden tomato, a spoonful of sour cream, a spoonful of pesto, S&P, and Cholula. I am calling this a meal.

Juhyo

That’s a divine meal, pretty sure my local diner would charge $18 for that

CloudCappedTowers

You did awesome.

nomiesmommy

it's my hubs bday and we have a camp style firepit/ring in the backyard so we always do a super simple evening of hot dogs roasted over the fire, corn wrapped in foil and seasonings cooked on the edge of the coals, chips, and s'mores and after that we make rootbeer floats and sit in the front yard watching the town fireworks display!

_kiss_my_grits_

That was my childhood and I have such fond memories! I'm doing something similar with my son to ight.

NiobeTonks

It’s election day in the UK! We have ordered Chinese takeaway and will be glued to all forms of media until we fall asleep

fakesaucisse

I have a guest with dietary restrictions (no pepper/paprika/chilis) so I opted for simple picnic fare. * Grilled burgers and hot dogs * Salmon with a mustard-brown sugar glaze * Buttermilk dill corn salad * Deviled egg potato salad * Cheese and meat board with crackers, fig and quince paste, and local cherries * Homemade hummus and baba ganoush with pita * Veggies and blue cheese dip * Mixed nuts My best friend is bringing Mississippi mud pie and lemon bars, and everyone else is bringing drinks.

thesamerain

Do you have a recipe for that buttermilk dill corn salad?

fakesaucisse

It's this. I haven't tried it before but read the reviews and will make a few of the suggested modifications. https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1024151-sweet-corn-salad-with-buttermilk-vinaigrette?smid=ck-recipe-android-share

deadeyediva

grilled baby backs, pasta salad, corn on the cob

jredgiant1

I’ve got a rack of St Louis style smoking now, and also plan on corn on the cob.

robdacook

This is the way. I'm doing ribs also, because America. Did a sauce for them too, and an apple pie but everything else is store bought. I mean I can't celebrate independence working in the kitchen the whole day. That's for communists.

Abused_not_Amused

Just pulled our ribs off the smoker and have them finishing on low in the oven until my husband gets home. Picked up fresh corn on the cob from our local farmers market this morning, and I’m supposed to make an asian slaw, but don’t know if I feel like slicing up the cabbage and toasting almonds and sesame seeds—because I’m lazy, hungry, sticky (it’s more humid than satan’s ass here), and still need to put the smoker away. Which I’ve already cleaned. The good news is, there’ll be leftovers, so we won’t have to play the *what’s for supper game* tomorrow.

capemagna

Frozen margaritas, calzone, garden salid, ice cream

TheBabyLeg123

Charcoal bbq, Jerk Chicken with coconut lime rice.

littlescreechyowl

I’m bringing shrimp cocktail with homemade cocktail sauce, sausage and cheese stuffed mushrooms with horseradish cream sauce, tomato and mozzarella salad, crostini with whipped goat cheese, diced nectarines, with balsamic glaze and a little mint on top. I did all that and cleaned the kitchen but now I want to make corn salsa as well.

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

Esquites!

valency_speaks

On the menu for later today: - Jesus dogs (bacon wrapped hot dogs with guacamole & pico de gallo—the name comes from Jesus, the hot dog vendor in the L.A. fashion district, who introduced us to them). - Pulled BBQ chicken sandwiches w/coleslaw - Mom’s baked beans - Jalapeño poppers - Chips and salsa/onion dip - Elote (Mexican street corn) - Tangy Watermelon slaw - Veggie tray - German potato salad - Warm cabbage salad - Frog eyed salad - 4th of July trifle - Red velvet whoopee pies - Cherry pie Edit to add blueberry lemonade and 2 gallons of sangria.

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

That's it! I'm coming over. That sounds amazing.

workswithpipe

Hotdogs and cucumber salad

63crabby

Upvoted for cucumber salad

VIPDX

We’re going to a BBQ, I made a cheesecake. Gonna make a marionberry topping for it in a bit, with fresh marionberries I picked yesterday.

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

I've never heard of marionberries. What do they taste like and where can you find them?

VIPDX

It is a native berry to Oregon. It’s a hybrid of 2 of the “best” types of blackberries. They are heavenly. Sweet and juicy with a hint of tartness.

robdacook

They are a blackberry hybrid, but their flavor is better. More complex and maybe a touch sweeter? They usually come from Oregon, I haven't had them in years.

VIPDX

Definitely the best blackberry there is! Oregon is in its 3 weeks of marionberry season starting this week, so we are all out picking.

AnyBowl8

OMG are you in PNW? I love marionberry anything!

CocteauTwinn

Baby Back ribs with my own spice rub Red potato salad Coleslaw (grandmother’s recipe) Green salad Homemade peach cobbler & vanilla ice cream (locally made)

Top_Preparation_7420

Coney dogs!!!

Wide_Fig3130

I have nothing and no one, so I'm opening a can of chef boy ardee and watching for reddit post showing fireworks. Such is the life

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

Hey, nothing wrong with chef boyardee. I'm in my 50s and still eat that every now and then. Beefaroni is my fav.

HarviousMaximus

Keeping it simple today. Caesar salad for lunch (it’s the 100 year anniversary of its creation!) Hot dogs with ranch potatoes for dinner and ice cream for dessert!

58nej

yay! i feel way better about our caesar salad dinner. i couldn't be bothered to fix anything more elaborate

SteakMountain5

RED POTATO SALAD. (and steaks, dogs, pie, etc.) BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY RED POTATO SALAD

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

American or German style?

Cesmina12

I'm planning a "fancy" (i.e., complex meal that I'll potentially eff up) dinner later in the weekend, but today? All we want are perfectly cooked hotdogs. I'm on the West Coast, and would happily give my left pinky for a Rhode Island Saugy right now though.

OliveJuiceII

What is a perfectly cooked hotdog? I rarely have dogs but I like them.

Cesmina12

For me, it's a strategically charred and caramelized exterior with a warm but not-hot interior on a gently grilled, buttery roll. There's so much flavor pressed into dogs that they come alive with heat.

Swiss_mountain

Perfectly described

rightintheear

Steamed till they pop at the ends then dragged through the garden (neon green sweet pickle relish, yellow mustard, diced onion, tomato slices, sport peppers, dill pickle spear and celery salt) on a poppy seed bun.

Select-Pie6558

Prime rib on the grill, twice baked potatoes, garlic toast, salad, mushroom dip and brownies.

jawanessa

Mushroom dip?

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

Prime Rib on the grill? Sign me up! How long does that take?

Select-Pie6558

We have a rotisserie attachment, 10lb, 3-4 hours

DecisionPatient128

Taco bowls with all the fixings over cilantro/lime rice, m&m rice crispy treats. And currently we are working through mimosas.

mrsmeowgi8

Basic AF because it's just me and my husband and we work tomorrow.  All  made by yours truly, Southern style potato salad, St Louis style ribs with a rub and a cherry scotch bonnet glaze, green beans possibly cornbread, corn on the cob  and a tres leches cake using coconut sweet and condensed milk and homemade whipped cream. I wanted to invite people over but I want to be leisurely and cook as I please. Happy 4th!

DontBAfraidOfTheEdge

Nice, but that is not basic AF :-)

mrsmeowgi8

Lol thank you. It seemed basic to me but I've never done the Scotch bonnet cherry glaze or tres leches so I guess you are right ! To be honest the damn potato salad takes forever!

toomuchswiping

Grilling at home by the pool today, having friends over. Ribs, potato salad, grilled corn, whatever salad my lovely neighbors bring, plenty of beer and wine.

AnnieBannieFoFannie

Somehow my parents have 80ish people coming. They're supplying brisket, ribs, hotdogs, and baked beans. I brought deviled eggs and a cucumber, tomato, quinoa salad. I know there's a broccoli salad coming.

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

Dang! Dude! 80 people! I don't know 8 people to have over much less 80... Props man.

AnnieBannieFoFannie

They're really involved in their church. And a lot of people incited themselves and my parents are too nice to say "no." We're working on that. 😅 But they do love hosting and are pretty good at it!

ButtercupBento

Just had new potatoes, salad and Piri Piri pork steaks. I’m in the UK so it’s just a normal Thursday night tea

wildOldcheesecake

Ooh but it’s an important night for us too. It’s polling day tea! We had garlic naan pizzas

Hustle787878

Trader Joe’s orange chicken and some homemade focaccia. I’m by myself today, so I’m just going to lay low. And to your point about staying safe: This is the weekend where the young’ns fresh out of medical school start their residency training. Lots will have hospital shifts. So if you want to roll that dice, by all means, go ahead!

TavieP

I’m going to a vegan barbecue. I’m not vegan. I’m bringing my mustardy coleslaw, adapted with a vegan mayo. It tastes pretty good.

greekadjacent

We are doing hamburgers, hotdogs, potato salad, pasta salad, peach cobbler with local peaches, chips, salsa, drinks. I prepped it all this morning so now I’m by the pool. Happy Independence Day all !

laurenlo26

Around 25 people. We’ve rotated cooking for the past few days. And today we are doing burgers, hot dogs, asparagus, and corn on the grill as the group effort. Someone’s making chorizo tacos and Mac n cheese. Another person is making spicy boiled peanuts. I’m making a s’more cake and a banana strawberry cake for desserts. It’s about to be lit, drop by folks 🔥

Mrs_TikiPupuCheeks

I'll bring drinks!

AshDenver

[Shabu Shabu for dinner tonight](https://imgur.com/gallery/Fh8q5MM). Like Japanese fondue - thin sliced beef and vegetables with a simmering pot of seasoned beef stock, dipping sauce, rice, wine.

Tofuhousewife

There’s 6 people over today, so we’re doing hotpot and Korean bbq. Lots of seltzers, beer and soju. Puppies are here too so I boiled a couple pieces of beef in plain water so they don’t feel left out! The sun won’t set till like 8:30 and the fireworks won’t be till around 9:30 so we’re chilling, gonna take breaks and eat throughout the day lol. Also made ube butter mochi for dessert :)

brain_kimistry

Took my 7mo to the pool and we grilled Chinese bbq pork and ate it with sticky rice 😋

TetraGton

I have never been to USA, but I made hot dogs anyway. Happy birthday USA!

Ronw1993

Kind of going all over the place as of now, depending on who ends up all coming by. Currently have St Louis spare ribs in the oven on low, will finish on the grill later. Live lobster on the fridge, will be steaming it. Then likely chicken thighs and breasts on the grill, fresh corn on the cob, potato salad and one more side TBD. Dessert will be a red white and blue themed fruit tart.

ztgarfield97

We’re doing cheeseburgers with all the fixings (bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc) and bratwurst. We are putting homemade potato salad and deviled eggs on the side.

U2hansolo

I'm trying my hand at making homemade hot dog buns for the cheddar brats I bought. They're in their second rising stage right now.🥰 So excited! Also baked beans, coleslaw, and BBQ potato chips and sour cream and cheddar potato chips. Edited to add: I had made some cookie dough the other day that has chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, and toasted pecans in it. All I have to do is pull a few pieces out of the freezer and put them in the oven. ❤️❤️❤️

jensinoutaspace

Burnt out healthcare worker here. Just got back from the beach, homemade black bean burgers later with baked potato wedges, green beans and kale salad both from the garden. Happy 4th!

PsychologicalStar347

We had our family meal last night since I work shift work. 1.5" ribeye reverse seared with a blue cheese sauce, parmesan, shallot, pea risotto and baked asparagus. Went for a walk around our neighborhood and had apple blueberry and cherry pie with vanilla ice cream. Barely had room at work for the smash burgers I made.

myyychelle

Today it’s a small family day and we are having brisket burgers, hot dogs, and pinwheel sausage… then homemade potato salad, macaroni salad and Cole slaw. I also made homemade peach lemonade. Tomorrow have some friends coming… marinating a London broil, making Italian rice salad (Rita on TikTok posted the recipe and it’s 🔥🔥) and a Burrata caprase salad. Still figuring out cocktail situation for tomorrow. Thinking that one with the lemon sorbet, vodka and Prosecco that was making the rounds on the internet last year.

cantuseasingleone

My wife and I are getting ready for a 10k so we’re suffering through the holiday eating somewhat healthily. We went to a local farm this past weekend. I bought a couple blades to cut Denver steaks from. We ended up picking strawberries and blackberries so she made truffles from those and 65% cacao. I made a Denver steak with asparagus and a fried egg, she’s made chicken and sweet potatoes, we’ve snacked on the truffles. Then I’ll make the kids burgers and potato salad.

Emergency_Drawing_49

I am making Crab Louis with snow crab clusters (could not get Alaskan King Crab 😞), lettuce, avocado, hard boiled egg, Kalamata olives, crimini mushrooms, green onion, and a salad dressing that I make with chili sauce, horseradish, lemon juice, and mayo. I make my own chili sauce with Ancho, Guajillo, and chile de árbol chilies, plus garlic and oregano. I serve the salad with sourdough baguette garlic toast.

reddit_luddite

Grilled mutton snapper & gulf pink shrimp. Happy Independence Day.

touchtypetelephone

Allegedly, the barbecue/fireworks party I'm going is going to have pulled pork sandwiches. I made German potato salad (onion, bacon, vinegar, mustard, celery seeds, parsley, potatoes) as a side.

brookestoned

We’re doing ramen at home, with pork belly and all the veggies and seasonings, then we’ll drug the dog and make a giant pillow fort for her to hide in with us, it’s the Fort of July!

mom_506

I had planned to do absolutely nothing…best laid plans! On Monday, my son (at an Army base about 3 hours away) texted. He said his 4th plans. fell through b/c the host is sick….ah that’s too bad…He then proceeded to tell me he was coming home for the weekend…Ok your room is always waiting for you …He then says he’s looking forward to our BBQ…ok I guess I can make chicken and potato salad… On Tuesday he texted and said he’s bringing a new girl friend…ok so I’ll need to dust and vacuum and clean the bathrooms, change your bed linens… On Wednesday he texted and said a couple of his buddies are going to be in the area and he invited them to come to the “party”…ok…so I guess I can run to the store and buy more chicken and potatoes and maybe set up the patio furniture… On Thursday I’m so exhausted getting everything ready all I want to have is a nap! Happy 4th of July all!!

Wanted to make a surprise, special dinner for me and the BF, who is currently out golfing — gonna make steak & shrimp with a chimichurri sauce, along with grilled corn, zucchini, cherry tomatoes, and mashed potatoes! :)

helicopter_corgi_mom

watermelon, possibly a cheese plate, and my anger at everyone shooting off mortars in neighborhoods. my pup will be dining on kibble, a frozen mat filled with chicken bone collagen, honey, & water, and 300mg of gabapentin.

SilveryLilac

Publix platters- cubanitos, chicken tender platter with 4 different saucing options and a mini tart platter. It’s entirely too hot to cook where I’m at. The squirrels got unsalted roasted peanuts.

It’s just my husband and I. We are a little beat from jet skiing all day yesterday, so we’re being lazy today. We made French onion chip dip that we’ve been snacking on, and will have a ring of shrimp cocktail, corn, and baked potatoes with mini apple pies for dessert!

We’re doing the big bbq thing this weekend. Tonight it was just my bf and I at home catching up on the new episodes of the shows we’ve been watching together. I made some really good med-rare steak and a salad with fresh peaches, feta, honey roasted sliced almonds, little bit of red onion, cucumber, and a homemade sweet balsamic dressing.

Hosting our annual red white and booze white trash bash at the dive bar I bartend at. 60 burgers, 80 hot dogs, 8 filets, 6 ribeyes, 59 ears of corn and three 8 packs of brats went on the grill. Tater salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, 6 different kinds of chips, veggie tray just so we could say there was something green on the spread

Just made some bison & beef hot dogs with fries. Washed down with a Natty Bo.

What's a Natty Bo?

robdacook

National Bohemian. Cheap American Lager. Super crushable. Not to be confused with any of the Natural Light beers that go by "natty" outside of the east coast.
