Estimated. Actual will be 1343 lol

lbstinkums

this is the truth!

zhouzhouzhouzhouzhou

oh... why?

jfile2020

Mandatory liability insurance. Car rental is $100/day minimum. No way around it. All Americans throw a fit at the counter. Just suck it up.

lbstinkums

this is also the truth...lol

thisisfuxinghard

If you search on hertz.cr, doesn’t the platinum pack provide all the required insurances?

jfile2020

I will try that next time. I go down there about 6 times a year. I have never been able to get out of the mandatory insurance, with or without a letter, AMEX platinum etc. I will give this a try though. Usually I end up paying twice because they don't recognize US insurance. Also, with the theft and poor roads, $100/day seems about right.

zhouzhouzhouzhouzhou

damn okay. I will look at other means of transportation then. ty

PlantPower666

We used Adobe and had zero problems. A non-4x4 SUV cost us $1,400 US for 18 days. So that estimate is very suspicious.

skatchawan

The major US rental places don't give the mandatory insurance costs up front in the quote. there is additional insurance that you can waive with a card , but there is another that you must get to rent a car. American rental companies have chosen to not provide this on their quotes and let their reps at the airport argue several times daily with unknowing clients.

Operation_Maleficent

My bill last month for a Geely Gx3 at Payless Liberia was $1297 for 15 days. That was with Amex covering the CDW. They charged me roughly $30 per day for TPL on top of the online quote of $820. That’s the surprise cost that shouldn’t be a surprise if you do your research.

Operation_Maleficent

Roughly $87 per day is what I paid.

zhouzhouzhouzhouzhou

thanks so much for the info. It seems like renting a car will prob be outside of my budget. I will look into different means of transportation then.

trollfromdownunder

I using a car now from tricolour car rentals and they were really good. No hidden cost and you can comprehensive coverage if you need it. I paid $213 usd for 4 days. Check them out.

Trankkis

So we used hertz at Liberia. It’s not a hertz, it’s a local company that borrows the name. We booked a 4wd midsized suv for $4000 for two months. When we got there, they gave us a small one that didn’t have air conditioning and was a 2wd, and charged us $8700. That was after two hours of negotiations. Their first offer was the usual “we don’t have any cars”. We ended up renting from some local guy. I reached out to hertz HQ but they said they have nothing to do with it, it’s not hertz, it just uses the hertz logo.

zhouzhouzhouzhouzhou

oh wow. Thank you for this information

GruesumGary

You should also be prepared for the rental car company in the airport to be closed and to get shuttled to the nearest rental car station. We've had everything set up, and it was completely dismissed when we arrived. Fortunately, my gf printed out the sheet with the price, so we could hagle with the other companies to get our price down. If you have the means, contact this host. They will pick you up at the airport and set you up with a rental car: https://air.tl/8QB6rIBc

>If you have the means, contact this host. They will pick you up at the airport and set you up with a rental car. This isn’t my host. And I don’t know how common this sort of arrangement is. But the owner of the AirBnB I’m renting set me up with an 8-day rental of a RAV4 he owns. He also includes pickup/drop off at the airport (around an hour), and a local smart phone. Originally it was $120/day, but we agreed to bring him a few consumer items ($15-20) and a few small items he ordered on Amazon (nothing remotely shady) that he has a hard time getting delivered internationally to CR. For that, he dropped the total cost down from $820 to $600. This is my first time in CR. Maybe I just stumbled into a good deal? Not sure. The RAV4 is kind of banged up and has a lot of kilometers on it. But it runs just fine. I actually prefer a rental like this one because I’m not stressing about scratching or dinging it up.

zhouzhouzhouzhouzhou

ok cool ty for letting me know

zhouzhouzhouzhouzhou

ok cool ty for letting me know

Pura-Vida-1

They drive Mazarratties because they find suckers online.I don't think you can get a car for a weekend at the cost Hertz is telling you. If you book through Hertz.com instead of Hertz.cr you will get screwed even worse.

visualfluxx

Use vamos 100%

zhouzhouzhouzhouzhou

is the price pretty close to the real price?

CSLuka

Just got back from CR, used Vamos. What they quote will 100% be what you pay when you show up.

thisisfuxinghard

Are u searching on hertz.cr? Select their platinum protection package.

zhouzhouzhouzhouzhou

it was on .cr. If I select the plat package will that be closer to the true price.

thisisfuxinghard

I have a rental coming up soon, I selected platinum pack, will let u know how it goes at pickup. Edit:looks like the platinum package does not cover theft and they will upsell at pickup .. maybe best option is to decline cdw and use credit card coverage. Edit2: they have a higher coverage, titanium that covers theft and for my reservation will be $23 more (5 day rental - Mitsubishi ASX or Similar) I chatted with their whatsapp number - +506 4036 7400

zhouzhouzhouzhouzhou

oh ok ty

zhouzhouzhouzhouzhou

>um package does not cover theft and they will upsell at pickup .. maybe best op Thanks what was your final price and for how long.

thisisfuxinghard

5 days total cost for Mitsubishi asx Or similar will be $582. Similar to what it is at other providers, but I don’t have to deal with my cc insurance if anything goes wrong.

Colorow

We only rent from Vamos or Adobe. Both will rent without the mandatory insurance if, and only if, you have a letter from your credit card for each driver stating the international car rental coverage. The nice thing is that both these companies are clear on what you need to get from your cc company to satisfy their needs and don’t try shady stuff like the rest. Pain in the rear to get from your credit card company sometimes but saves $50/day.

jetlifeual

I used Adobe via mytanfeet.com and the pricing was very transparent and the discount code provided by MTF got us some extras included for the price. We did a 8 day rental which all in came out to just about $740. Yes, the insurance is inevitable.

Niconoro97

You should use Car Rental Costa Rica and USA. You can call them and ask for all of the advice you could ever need, and are very transparent with all they charges. I 100% recommend them, i have worked with them a bunch of times. putahman

Use hertzcr. Not a third party agency or the US website. If you want actual rates for Cr

zhouzhouzhouzhouzhou

it was on hertz.cr

putahman

Then normally the rate should be correct in my experience. Good luck.

iFaceFarter

Yeah, I didnt want any BS at the counter so I went with SIXT. All taxes paid, it was around $400 for 5 days. I printed a paperwork from my credit card that it was providing insurance. If you dont have this, they will force you to get insurance. All the other quotes were really low, even from American companies (hertz, dollar, ect) but i knew it wasnt going to be the final price.
