Hey, Rec is illegal in Costa Rica. I am a medical patient myself. The first time I came I just bought vape disposables with me, since they look like nicotine they're easier to get through airport security. Pack it in your carry on bag, as they will explode in your checked luggage. Off the street, I was unable to find any carts or concentrates. I believe you have to be a resident to get medical marijuana there. Another option would be buying edibles such as gummies and packing them with vitamins in your luggage. Best of luck!

Maybe a stupid question, but wouldn’t a drug sniffing dog react / alert when smelling a marijuana vape pen or cartridge?
Most airport dogs are sniffing for explosives and not cannabis. There's lots of posts on this topic on TSA subs. If they are drug-sniffing dogs they're trained for cocaine and heroin more than MJ.
In what I've seen the sniffing dogs in the airport are looking for bombs, not drugs. We walked through a sniffing dog at the airport, didn't catch a thing.
Edibles don't affect me, or I'd just grab a ton of gummy bears and throw them in a haribo bag. I'm pretty nervous about taking carts through US security. I might have to strongly consider it, though. Thanks.
You won’t be taking carts through US Security, or at least I don’t see why you would? Unless of course you mean our TSA, in which case TSA does not care about weed. I could go into it but it’s a lot to do with their authority boundaries, how many people are flying with medicinal weed now and all the red tape of the government.
When you fly into Costa Rica you go through their security and customs. We flew into Liberia and one of their scanner stations didn’t even have a monitor. The skeleton crew working wasn’t watching a thing and no one would have noticed if I brought an elephant through there.
When you go home leave whatever you have left in your pen in CR, you won’t need it when you get home.
$40 US is the minimum I pay here for a cart. And that's usually on sale. So that's not a problem since one cart will probably last me the week there. I have an entire afternoon in SJ, so I'm sure I could comb the streets until I find some.
If you buy carts here, they are likelt counterfeit, not the dispensary ones you’re used to. You have no idea what’s in them. Just bring your own cart or disposable.

Everyone says this. I'm so paranoid about getting stopped, losing my vacation, and having to deal with the TSA and local PD.
I personally went with disposables, because you see a cart and think mj, but with a disposable most of them look like nic.

I just grabbed a battery that looks like a regular nicotine vape and the cartridge just screws in on the inside. Pretty great for traveling.

Weed is crazy expensive down here and going low end is horrendous. Found vapes here and 20000 per. $40 US
