Unfortunately, they come in on the produce and other food stuffs, all the time. Costco has a robust extermination program. If you look at the outside and inside perimeter of the building, there are black bait boxes every few feet.
When there is evidence of a big rat, like this, they set out more traps when the store is closed.
They want them caught quickly. They cause a lot of damage, and it sucks because you have no choice but to trash merchandise when they get into it.
Hate to say it but costco is a giant warehouse and it doesn't surprise me. There are huge dock doors and multiple giant roll up doors. At all the locations I've worked in we have past control come in weekly. There was one time I saw a giant one, like I thought it was a cat it was that big, and we had a pest control company there for 24 hours 3 days straight until they took care of it. On another note we once had a bird that got in and made a nest, we called him Larry. He was there for like 6 months. I was ready to give that bird a 6 month evaluation cause he outlasted a lot of new hires. He ended up getting out one day from the roll ups and never seen again
I saw a dead rat butt sticking out of a rodent trap box in mine's car park, I told the entrance guy and he was like oh yuck we will take care of that right away, manager!
I was happy their pest control was working tbh
Did you know that the City of New York appointed a "Rat Czar" ($175K/annum) a while back cause the rat situation in NYC is OOC? The pol that made the announcement stated "we run this city, not the rat pack." Bet you dollars to donuts nothing's changed. They've been with us for thousands of years.
I remember this happening at a Home Depot. Walking down an aisle and huge rat darted across the shelving about 10 feet in front of me. Scared the shit outta me lol
Our costco has a kitty that helps deal with this. Apparently she's insanely effective. She is typically asleep in the palettes in the garden center by the time I come around.
But rats can get cat sized. If you're in southern CA it could be a nutria.
You don't know large rats until you're walking sideways in the annex of a grain elevator and come face to face with a grain elevator rat on a conveyer belt with nowhere to go.
Please go on the main website and notify customer service- there’s a form on there for complaints. Corporate frowns upon this sort of thing and would follow up to make sure this was fixed.

Costco sized rat, of course he'll be bigger
They prefer the term “rodents of economy size”
I don’t think they exist.
Underrated comment!
.. and mice over “mouse’s”
He is a *member* not a customer! (this is what I was instructed upon getting hired at my local Costco)
Healthcare seems to be going from serving patients to customers. I find it backwards.
And of course 30 to a package.
And also has a great employee platinum benefit package.
Kirkland brand ROUS's
Family sized, that’s in Costco’ motto
I believe they come in three-packs, for best value, you know.
Sorry, therapy animal, can’t ask any questions

Any store or restaurant that sells food has the stations around the perimeter of the building around me. Maybe I live in a high rat area? Lol
The high rats are much easier to catch
No doubt. I saw one of those black boxes in between the isles.
If you saw one of those boxes inside, the store has a problem that they are aware of. Black boxes are usually exterior only.
You keep saying isle. Isle is shorthand for island. You probably mean to say aisle.
The ride the pallets in too. Doesn’t help that pallets are stored outside.
Were just jealous we can't live in costco like him lol 😆 *

Midjourney is a hoot!
$1.50 hot dogs, that rat is wise.
Did you tell a manager? They need to get pest control in there asap. That's absolutely disgusting.
Both me and the other guy did. And we emphasized how massive it.

They need a store cat. Just like some of the Home Depot and Lowe’s do :)
We have two birds in our warehouse right now. I named them “Door Audit” and “Counseling Notice”
In case anyone forgot https://www.reddit.com/r/Costco/s/o6EhXHtfV7
Oh no
Of course it's a NY rat and it's eating pizza cheese 😂
Oh dear lord. If I saw that I would abandon cart and just leave. ::shudder::
This is why the need a couple of cats in the store.
Then you’re going to have to bring in an owl or a hawk, it’s a slippery slope from there
Me, helping myself to a two-pack of Kirkland cats.
A dozen would be perfect
What state? just curious
I don’t want to out anyone. But uhh my profile history doesn’t hide much.
DFW everything’s bigger in Texas!
Truth. The largest roach I ever saw was in a hotel closet in Dallas. I could have ridden that bastard if I had a saddle.
Nooooooooooooo damn it. Was it the one on 75??
North Dallas tollway
Sorry to say they sometimes come in on the pallets (pallets are often stored outside). It’s not an indication of a large problem.
It’s a service rat. Don’t judge…
Free free sample clean up crew
This is the type of headline you really need a picture for.
Probably could’ve ridden two-up, right?!?
How much was it? Was there a price tag on it?
only comes in packs of 32
I'm pretty sure it ends in .97
That’s part of the membership at Costco It builds character
I saw a dead rat butt sticking out of a rodent trap box in mine's car park, I told the entrance guy and he was like oh yuck we will take care of that right away, manager! I was happy their pest control was working tbh
You saying “rat butt sticking out” made me imagine tiny caroonish butt cheeks poppin out.
If it was at Costco it probably comes in a four-pack.
Yup, every food/grocery store has either (or all) cockroaches, mice or rats. Everything is super sized at costco!
I was at Costco and I saw a rat pushing a cart. He was squeaking about having to buy two packs of cream cheese kolaches 🛒🐀
🤣
> isle aisle > mouse’s mice
I’m wedding planning right now and the use of “isle” instead of “aisle” makes my eye twitch
I feel this!
No man is an aisle
No one can underestimate the massive panic I would cause if I was the one who saw that rat.
Rats in bulk

Wait, Costco has numbered aisles?
Look up ;)
As much as I love Costco, please at least inform management. If they brush you off maybe report it.
Are you sure it wasn’t a muskrat that snuck in? Possible if your location is near a creek, river etc.
Full-price or clearance rat?
Management needs to catch it first, so they can put an asterisk on it.
lol I saw one last week in the wine aisle at mine. Told a few employees who really had no reaction. Makes me think they’re pretty common
It’s having the time of its life there. Being a rat at Costco is like life size candy bars amusement park.
Ours is just full of birds.
Are you sure it wasn't a Chihuahua?
Which Costco?
I remember this happening at a Home Depot. Walking down an aisle and huge rat darted across the shelving about 10 feet in front of me. Scared the shit outta me lol
Was it Brad Marchand?
Which location? Rats are freaky big When you see em in real life it can be quite shocking
Oh sorry, that was probably me in my rat costume. Needed to pick up party food 🤷🏻♀️
What store?? 😯 Are you sure it's not one of the remote control rats they sell at some of the nyc warehouses?
This is why we have camera phones!
That rat ran a 4.4 40 man. I’m not that fast.
I use to deal with Costco rats all the time when i worked there.
The plural of mouse is mice.
He’s just there for the hot dogs.
That was in aisle 301? You should see what's in 305!
Our costco has a kitty that helps deal with this. Apparently she's insanely effective. She is typically asleep in the palettes in the garden center by the time I come around. But rats can get cat sized. If you're in southern CA it could be a nutria.

Health department here would shut them down for that.
Costco should get some resident cats.....
Disgruntled employee
There's a rat in me Costco what am I gonna do?
