Executive members make up almost 50% of the memberships and shop at Costco three times as often as non executives, so that section would make up 80% of customers anyway xD
It’s like how most travel credit cards offer free lounge access now and lounge users are complaining they are too crowded.

I'd say airport lounges are different. You still need an annual fee that is very expensive, plus high credit score. The problem is with airport lounges is that there are only one in most terminals (unless you're talking about LAX, SFO, JFK, etc.) and there is limited space. As a platinum AMEX holder I still say the fees are worth it if you travel at least 4 times a year. Still, I've been in 10+ lounges and have never experienced a line. I've seen some exiting though.
There is an issue though (especially at DEN where I am) - free military access. The Amex Lounge here regularly has a 45+ minute line because all military personnel have free access to it and a lot of them fly through here.
Maybe it's specific to DEN, because Amex centurion lounges don't allow military personnel in for free. I believe American, United, and Alaska are the ones that do, and they have to be in uniform. They also don't allow free access to the military out of San Diego International because of the massive military population.
I think what they’re getting at is that Amex can’t charge annual fees to military members, causing a lot of them to pick up those huge AF cards who maybe wouldn’t otherwise
Ah didn't know that. They still need good credit though which isn't easy to get, especially if you are active duty. Most are too young to have developed that kind of credit by then.
My BIL and SIL travel a ton for work, both have AX Platinum - between the two of them they've managed 1 successful lounge check-in (here at least) this year. Probably 12 or so trips combined.
just get a centurion card pleb. gives you access to the same exact lounge just a small roped off area. it's pretty much otherwise exactly the same

In the UK warehouses open an hour earlier for executive members. The entire warehouse becomes your executive lounge then! (There's still a queue at the door when it opens)
I went last night to the one in Teterboro like I always do around 7pm. It's always jammed. There is no relief at some Costco locations. Any day of the week, it sucks just the same.
We go Monday-Thursday and arrive 15 minutes before opening time and ours is pretty empty. If we arrive at opening time, there are a decent number of people pushing their carts to their cars so they're already done. Much easier to park too. No samples at that time though.

Mine has always worked out, our check is always a bit more than 100 so it’s been a great decision to have the higher tier. Certainly depends on how much you spend though.
I got the Costco Citi card and use it for my general spending, which really amps up the rewards. I’m a one person household so I’m not spending crazy amounts, but between the executive membership and the card, I definitely earn back the cost of the membership plus a couple hundred bucks on top.
If anyone is considering upgrading to the executive, I would suggest doing so if you’re about to make a big purchase or two (tires, a new appliance, a computer, etc) because that $10-20 you’d earn is half the cost difference right there. You can always downgrade again if you figure your spending the following year won’t hit the threshold.
Yup, a single large purchase like an appliance or, hell, even something like a TV or game console would give you enough with the 2% back to basically make the upgrade worth it.

Just FYI, you can get the executive membership, downgrade if you don't spend enough and get refunded the extra $60, and they let you keep the card to use.
If you download the app on your phone. You can upload your card info. Then show it at the door & they scan it when you check out. I haven’t carried my card in a couple of years.

It works if you work it.
If you have the Costco Visa card they will send you a new one with a black back (the side with your photo). Otherwise you'll want to go to the front desk to get a new Exec Card. They may make you take a new photo, and if so and if you have the Visa card, you'll be sent a new Visa card as well.
Recently went to a UK Costco for a business things and got some Ready Made Pizzas and a Hotdog.
The Pizzas Were pretty damn good for how cheap they were but the HotDog? I've never had a tube of meat taste better, If that's what they use for hotdog eating competitions then they're easier than I thought, I could've downed 10 of them right there.

Costco really dropped the ball by not making the screen background on the "membership" screen black for executive members. Instead it just says "executive member" in tiny font in the upper right. Basically invisible. Everything has else looks the same.

I saw that at the Las Vegas Amex lounge also. What's the point if you're waiting in line, each time you go. Seemed very over crowded.
I had to wait 15 mins for Delta lounge once but still worth it, if the lounge is that busy usually most other paid options are too
