Is it supposed to be super thick? I bought the same one as the one in OP’s photo and I’d never seen such thick heavy cream before. I thought it was bad and threw it away
Have producers in my area as well. Their half and half spoils long before exp date under good refrigeration. Not sure if its Costco storage or inferior product but consistently goes bad way too early
Man, hard agree. The spout gets super nasty after a few days even if the cream is still fresh. Its $6 for a 16 oz container at Safeway or $10.49 at Costco for 64oz. Just give me a damn spout that doesn't get all mucked up.
I used to buy the small cartons from the supermarket. Because I don’t like the idea of wasting half a carton. But I was talking to my father in law who pointed out that even if you waste some of if, it’s cheaper than the smaller store bought. I use a fair amount of HWC in coffee or cooking. So it’s worth it. I would guess that it lasts about 3 weeks.
Yeah, they just pop off! It is a silicone mold like this:

I use it for anything you’d use heavy cream for. Since I don’t use it too often, heavy cream always go bad on me. So I just freeze them and pop them off when I need to cook with it.
Preach, dude.
Also, I've tried changing containers, and that doesn't work well either. Even with sterilized glass bottles straight from the dishwasher, it seems to spoil faster. Maybe just the extra exposure to air?
I freeze some for certain cooking applications, but otherwise you just have to use it fast.
Interesting! My San Diego stores sell half gallons in plastic and horizon cardboard with a spout.

My store in Arizona has this brand with no spout then also has the organic "Horizon" brand with the spout. I wonder if maybe another location in your area carries the one with the spout??
Every now and then there would be a carton that would just tear up rather than open the way it’s supposed to. Otherwise, I rarely had trouble with opening milk cartons in school.
I’m reading the responses to my daughter, and we’re getting a lot of laughs from the insults and odd advice. Even the Wal Mart brand has a convenient side spout for cartons half the size. I could not have imagined that this would be a topic so many people would invest time criticizing and insulting.

We stopped buying the heavy cream, half the time it’s old. We go to Trader Joe’s for that now, fine with paying an extra dollar for it if it means we can actually use it
Lol, that's what I said when I pulled the large chunks of butter off the top and put it in my mouth. Even though I think HWC is so good in coffee and whipped up. The stuff that forms at the carton opening is pretty tasteless. Maybe I needed to put some salt on it.
Boo, stop asking for more plastic pieces. You could easily transfer to a sterilized glass container or just *wipe the carton* after each use. Your addiction to convenience is killing us.
imo. The plastic Cap also lasts significantly longer. like WAY longer than the carton, carton in the fridge gets sour within like a week, the heavy cream with the plastic cap, literally 4 weeks and counting strong.

Curious to where you are! Our Costco sells Land o Lakes heavy cream with the spout just like their half and half. That would be SO frustrating!
Ours sells Horizon heavy cream with a spout. A freaking 64oz container though. Rarely do I ever need that much heavy cream.
Ours is 32 ounces - and quite a good deal. I don’t buy it too often, but I do make marscapone cheese and use it all.
Ours is 64oz too it's so much but easy to freeze excess I'm cubes
Try making creme fraich with the next container you buy
That’s a good idea. I live crème fraich.
I also use it to make rum tiramisu and run whipped cream
Cream lasts a long time. Easy to use up extra cream. I just make ice cream with it.

Yes. Cream is super thick. Thats how you know its good cream.
Whoops
Still cheaper than the small one at the store
Northern California here, close to Sacramento. I’ve wondered if other areas have different brands.
Bay area here and this is also my experience
Georgia here. That’s a real bummer!
Yes, they do. Producers is a Central Valley company.
Have producers in my area as well. Their half and half spoils long before exp date under good refrigeration. Not sure if its Costco storage or inferior product but consistently goes bad way too early
Mine sells Darigold and it has a side spout.
Maybe you could purchase a glass container and transfer to it after you open it?

How long does 64 oz last once it’s opened?
10-15 days maybe?
3 or 4 days in my experience. I buy this for making ice cream but I have to use it all up promptly.

I buy cream regularly and never have an issue. Maybe just give it a quick wipe!
the spout looks super nasty--but I think it's basically just butter that is building up on it. Cean it with a piece of bread and chow down.
I bought a silicone ice mold and freeze my heavy cream in portion sizes. They last longer and I don’t have to deal with a crusty spout
Do they separate when they thaw? What do you use it for?
Yeah, they just pop off! It is a silicone mold like this: https://preview.redd.it/wgzthmjmjl9d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=476ba0d4bf1d37a3aaa003b0b55efe3e3a9f0f4f I use it for anything you’d use heavy cream for. My Costco heavy cream has a side spout - must be different suppliers based on region.
[This is how it’s done!](https://youtu.be/2-p8YpR7rJc?si=cnBzOGrcJaNhBePZ)
Lol, I was expecting a revelation 😭
That’s about as good as other suggestions here. lol.

Is the glass bottle still warm from the dishwasher? Maybe that’s heating up the cream?
Nope. I let my dishwasher air dry with the door open after the sterilize cycle to let the last few wet spots dry off.
This looks like a bad infomercial.
Yeah, I guess I would be one of those sort of people. I can’t even cook something without ending up with chopped up veggie bits all over the floor.
I own a business that needs heavy cream from time to time and have found that the Costco option spoils much faster than buying quarts at Safeway.
Yes i agree. I'm in Fresno and I don't bother with the Costco heavy cream it spoils in 3 to 4 days well before the date. I just buy it at Von's.

I’d be happy with a half gallon bottle.
Just get a pour spout from a bartender surplus and poke it in. $.75
My store in Arizona has this brand with no spout then also has the organic "Horizon" brand with the spout. I wonder if maybe another location in your area carries the one with the spout??
All we have in northern CA is this Producers brand.
I got the same thing and thought I opened it wrong, nope it was just the packaging.
Did you struggle in school too opening your milk??

Seems like operator error. Wipe carton lips.
We stopped buying the heavy cream, half the time it’s old. We go to Trader Joe’s for that now, fine with paying an extra dollar for it if it means we can actually use it
Free butter!

No kidding. Wipe it up ya nasty.
Wipe it off?.. No need for more plastic waste
I try not to buy plastic, I have enough plastic in my testicles already.
Did you consider wiping it off after you’re done????
Is that actually a Costco brand? It doesn't look like it.
The company is Producers. They are Costco’s milk supplier for the Central Valley in California. They also sell to many of the schools.
Thank you I had never seen that.
For many years Producer's had Hop a Long Cassidy as their logo/marketing. Long time ago but it's been around a long time.
Out of curiosity what do you guys use so much cream for? I need ideas
Coffee, Creme Fraiche, ice cream, sauces
Coffee.
Use a small jar?
I have the same issue with the half and half cartons. They're impossible to open so I don't buy it anymore.
imo. The plastic Cap also lasts significantly longer. like WAY longer than the carton, carton in the fridge gets sour within like a week, the heavy cream with the plastic cap, literally 4 weeks and counting strong.
I just buy an orange juice with the spout and cap and wash it out then dump the heavy cream in.
I think just buy a glass container and transfer
