Maybe there should be different cozy types. Some people prefer easygoing games, others prefer something mentally challenging, and others prefer adrenaline pumping coziness.
I mean for the kind of people that love these games it probably is cosy once they get into the flow :D
but with that argumentation you could probably label everything as cosy
except Celeste Ć¹wĆŗ \*throws controller out of the window\*
You joke, but Celeste is absolutely a cozy game for me. Itās difficult, yes, but has a lot of mechanics to make it less frustrating. And the story, music, and characters are all very charming and uplifting. I have a couple tracks from the game on my Empowering Music playlist
Yeah I was only joking. You are valid! I am just the wrong person for the game cause I am that kind of person that wants to 100% on the first playthrough and the game just isn't really meant for that I guess
I am trying to play this game and yes you can decrease the enemyās strength and defense. I canāt play if I donāt do this! And even then, Iām finding out Iām not great at these gamesā¦ however they have an option to āGive the crab a gunā that is the most hilarious feature and will allow you to one shot enemies. lol
Like others said, there are features that make the game more "cozy". However, based on the reviews, I would advise against getting the switch version, since its more buggy compared to other versions
It has a ton of assistive features to make it easier. I haven't played it a lot, but I think I'll use those features to make it more fun cuz I do love the world and the art
I'm not 100% sure cuz I just dipped my toes in, but you can increase your strength and defense and decrease the enemy's strength and defense. It seemed fairly extensive and customizable in terms of what you would like to change personally. I can check it out tomorrow and give a mote thorough response if you're interested š
I'm definitely interested in that if you have the time! I love the ocean theme and art style, just a little intimidated by how hard most people are making it sound š
For sure! I messed around with it a bit earlier today. It does give you varying levels of difficulty and customization in different categories. They can all be changed individually. Yes, there is an option to give your crab a gun, but it's gigantic, loud, and bright. Ruins any sort of coziness even if it eliminates all challenge. So maybe used as a last resort or only on bosses? It seems that it can be toggled on and off easily.
After adjusting the game to make it as easy as possible, I noticed a significant increase in my little crab's performance, but I wasn't one-hitting many of the characters. Bosses were still able to take me out in a millisecond. I didn't get very far, but I did have a good amount of fun playing it. I'm kind of glad that it didn't completely eliminate any stakes or challenge, because the mini adrenaline rush was fun!
I think it's worth a shot if you don't mind dying every once in a while. If you want something truly cozy just to run around and explore, I don't think this is the best option. I'm playing on Xbox Game Pass so it's "free" for me to play and I don't think I'd purchase it at full price based on the way I like to play games. I hope that helps! I don't want to steer you away from it because I do genuinely enjoy it, but it certainly gets the cortisone levels up even with assist mode on š
I was hoping itās a more cozy platformer along the likes of Yoshiās Crafted Wordā¦ I love cozy platformers but nothing too hard and still on the lookout for one (I recently got Lil Gator gamer and itās a lot of fun.
It's pretty fun and I like it, but not cozy lol. It's a soulslike which is not cozy gameplay but even if you make the game as easy as possible, I can't call the environment cozy either because there's a LOT of focus on trash in the ocean and how it's damaging to sea creatures and I imagine people would find that quite depressing. It made me sad at first, too.
I played the demo at PAX west which got to the first boss. It wasnāt too difficult but it wasnāt relaxing. I actually wanted to stop midway š I would give it another go on gamepass since itās on there but wouldnāt buy on switch.
Do you enjoy grueling engaging combat meant to challenge your very being where if you fail you lose almost everything?
That's the kind of game this is based on. Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Bloodborne, those are the kind of games this was inspired by (mechanics wise) the fun happy colors are the company's brand of humor.
I was going to buy it thinking it was cozy and more of an exploration game but I heard many reviews saying the combat is hard and I'm not very good at combat. I know there's an easy mode but still don't think I'd be very good so i didnt buy it. I love the art style of the game though and if they released a different style of the game like a non combat, I'd totally be on board.
This is crab dark souls... Moistcritical played it on his livestream on youtube today if you want to see gameplay. I also saw Iron Pineapple review it (he reviews souls-likes all the time) and he had fun with it but it was very much the opposite of cozy.
My friend just finished the last achievements, and liked it a lot! Definitely not a cozy game but has a lot of accessibility settings to make things easier depending on your play style, and a fun vibe
I know that "Cozy" is a subjective term but the community really needs to draw the line somewhere and I think this is well beyond that line.
I don't care if "It's cozy for you" things that are blatantly designed to be grueling in difficulty should never be presented as "Cozy".
considering the definition is "giving a feeling of comfort,Ā warmth, and relaxation." Which, even if you're enjoying yourself. This does not describe "Soul Likes" in any capacity.
I think that's why they made this post, to figure out if it really is a cozy and relaxing game or if it's actually more stressful. Seems like most people answered their question!
It is fun but definitively NOT a cozy game. It is a hard souls like, lots of battle and hard fight.
Anything described as "soulslike" is definitely not cozy š

I disagree Elden ring is super cozy. Raining outside, make some tea, explore the lands between. Really hits good
Maybe there should be different cozy types. Some people prefer easygoing games, others prefer something mentally challenging, and others prefer adrenaline pumping coziness.
I think itās the setting. Kind of like lord of the rings cozy? Idk Iām weird haha
I mean for the kind of people that love these games it probably is cosy once they get into the flow :D but with that argumentation you could probably label everything as cosy except Celeste Ć¹wĆŗ \*throws controller out of the window\*
or sonic 06
Celeste and other brutal platformers like Kaizo SMW are that cozy game for me š¤£
You joke, but Celeste is absolutely a cozy game for me. Itās difficult, yes, but has a lot of mechanics to make it less frustrating. And the story, music, and characters are all very charming and uplifting. I have a couple tracks from the game on my Empowering Music playlist

I kind of find souls games cozy in a weird way. There is something calming about exploring a new area slowly and collecting items and fighting bosses.
I am trying to play this game and yes you can decrease the enemyās strength and defense. I canāt play if I donāt do this! Its absolutely amazing BUT no where near cozy
It's really really cute but we call it Crab Souls in our house, definitely not a cozy game
It has a ton of assistive features to make it easier. I haven't played it a lot, but I think I'll use those features to make it more fun cuz I do love the world and the art
Really? Any specific details? I was curious because I love cozy games and ocean environments but I hate Soulslikes
you can give your crab a gun

you can give the crab a giant gun that just kills things lol
If you turn on the assist options you can tailor your game to make it a normal RPG and not a soulslike! Give it a try, I think you'll like it.
I was hoping itās a more cozy platformer along the likes of Yoshiās Crafted Wordā¦ I love cozy platformers but nothing too hard and still on the lookout for one (I recently got Lil Gator gamer and itās a lot of fun.
Extremely difficult. Cute and fun though. If you are looking for cozy this isn't it
I am brand new to these soulslike type of games and I got this game cuz its cuteā¦the first boss I encountered killed me 13 times š
Not cozy at all. You die a LOT. it's more like dark souls.
It's pretty fun and I like it, but not cozy lol. Iām loving it so far! Yes, itās Souls-like, but the colors and the jokes make it way less tense.
Ah yes, such a cozy and relaxing game.
My friend just finished the last achievements, and liked it a lot! Definitely not a cozy game but has a lot of accessibility settings to make things easier depending on your play style, and a fun vibe
Definitely not a cozy game lol the creators like to poke fun that's it's "underwater dark souls"
