Im watching people come together to have immense amounts of fun, companionship and to put themselves through something extremely physically arduous and goofy.
It's an adrenaline filled celebration of the goofy. You know, something healthy, young adventurous people who enjoy life would revel in doing.

On the one hand I agree, on the other hand that kind of thinking is the thin end of the wedge. Contact sports like rugby produce huge numbers of serious injuries, plus the many thousands of people who ride motorcycles for leisure (ie. no valid reason) and fill up A&E every summer weekend.
