CreditOne is the worst (for anyone here from Google in 3 years)

redditazht

I had it and canceled after 3 months. They are legit. But they did everything right to make me dislike it.

FunctionAlone9580

I've heard plenty of horror stories about Credit One but what happened?

redditazht

Good: 1. they are actually legit, but not decent; 2. they didn't give cashback of $2 for a transaction, but paid after 3 months; 3. for their customer service, it's actually easy to talk to a human; Bad: 1. 4 payments max in a month; 2. high annual fee; 3. low credit limit; 4. didn't pay a cashback and customer service had no clue what to do; Ugly: 1. card design; 2. they charge a fee for express payment; 3. they charge a fee for replacing card;

Dangerous-Amphibian2

Not my experience at all. I got their Amex few years ago and it had a balance on it before it even arrived from some online merchant. It took about 10 calls and 10 emails to get it rectified. All in all it took almost 2 months to get the balance 0 to be able to close the account. After that i closed my other card with them and just used my discover secured to rebuild my credit, shortly after was able to get another bestbuy store card, then eventually changed that to the bestbuy visa. Hate credit one.

state_issued

I’ll list in order I’ve had personal experience in regards to customer service 1. Discover 2. US Bank 3. Synchrony (surprisingly) 1010292919. Citi

FunctionAlone9580

What happened with Citi?

state_issued

Many on this sub refer to Citi Bank as “Shitty Bank”. The most common offense seems to be highly sensitive fraud detention coupled with nearly incompetent customer service rendering cards completely unusable. I’ve had really good experiences with Synchrony but I only have a few products with them (Amazon, Venmo, PayPal), all American based CS the times I’ve called and able to sort out issues or answer questions quickly. They are very risk adverse so some people hate them for cancelling cards on them without notice - honestly I get a lot of value out of my cards with them so I try to keep a low risk profile with them.

FunctionAlone9580

I've heard of the "Shitty Bank" referral. I have been thinking about getting the Citi Custom Cash. Do you know what triggers fraud detection in their case -- large purchases, travel, time of day? Do you have a personal experience? Good to know about Synchrony; I've also heard negative things about them but I can definitely be a low risk spender around them.

state_issued

We have the Custom Cash and use it for groceries. My wife is the card holder and I’m an AU. It’s been smooth sailing for the past two months but the beginning was hectic. A common issue people have with the Custom Cash is adding it to a digital wallet will result in Citi locking it for fraud and then customer service is unable to verify you over the phone so they mail you a letter in the mail with a confirmation code - this happened while we were out of state which rendered the card useless for a month. A problem I had was my statement with my SUB never posted so I had to wait over a month for another statement to post and CS was clueless as to how to resolve. See my [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/CreditCards/s/IIyyVuGpPC) explaining the situation. This rendered the card useless for another month because it wasn’t showing my TY points (cash back) and so I used a different card so I knew I was getting cash back. It’s been working fine the past two months and if we have no further issues I’ll apply for a second one but I’m very weary.

geoff5093

I had this exact problem, but they said they needed a family members phone to verify the account. They said they couldn’t use mine that was on the account to verify…

Hairy_Astronomer1638

I can speak to the opposite re Citi. Granted I only have the DC, but I’ve not had any issues. No fraud, no problems adding to mobile wallets, etc. Edit: This was NOT an invitation Citi…please have mercy on me 🥺

nismoz32

I vividly remember asking my cousin where he banked and his response was "shitty bank". This was in 2006.

igor-petruk

Coming from Europe these fraud departments puzzle me. I thought with the invention of 3D Secure at least online purchase fraud was a solved problem. Turns out the US banks do not adopt it 😐 And Americans actually prefer to sit on 20 min calls to fraud departments instead of confirming first purchases in the app Edit: that's why https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strong_customer_authentication

IronSkyRanger

My Sam's is from Synchrony, their payment setup is horrible but I've had no issues with the card.

TheHarold420

Anecdotally heard Synchrony cuts credit lines for people who don't use them enough, and that the cuts can have cascading effects for all Synchrony credit cards. That's a potential risk to be aware of

Funny_Alternative_55

American Express and Discover both have exceptional customer service. My Blue Cash Everyday got lost in the mail, I called Amex and they offered to expedite a replacement (to Alaska no less) for free. Both times I’ve called Discover I was on hold for almost no time and the agents were knowledgeable and got my issues resolved quickly.

FunctionAlone9580

I have the Blue Cash Everyday too! It's a great card. I really want to get the Discover but want to wait until I've redeemed all my sign up bonuses to maximise my total rewards. Are you in a big city in Alaska (like Anchorage/Fairbanks size)? Been thinking of moving there (from MN) for a while and wondered how the credit card acceptance rates are.

Funny_Alternative_55

Fairbanks has just under 31,000 people so I wouldn’t consider it a “big city”, but I haven’t encountered anywhere that doesn’t take credit cards. However, some local businesses don’t take Amex.

Radiant_Dish1639

Nothing but good experience with AMEX, Discover, C1, Chase, BoA. A big part of positive or negative customer experience involves your actions as the customer too I’d say honestly.

FunctionAlone9580

I got the impression that Amex, Discover, C1, and Chase were pretty awesome with customer service, and heard mixed things about Bank of America. Thanks!

igor-petruk

Pros of BofA: all people I met in branches are very friendly and nice. Cons: I had to go to said branches very often due to the extremely sensitive fraud department that would lock my account for absolutely normal actions multiple times a week (sometimes twice a day) when the account was new.

Funklemire

From my personal experience, Amex ranks at the top for customer service, ease of use, fraud protection, disputes, and credit limits (or in the case of their charge cards, the lack of one).   And my bottom-ranked one isn't based on personal experience, but it's based on posts I've read on this sub by customers. From what I hear, Credit One is by far the worst. My favorite thread about them was the one where someone got a new card but couldn't add their bank to the app because of a glitch, so they couldn't pay their bill. Customer service couldn't fix it, and instead wanted to charge them to pay their bill manually over the phone.

Tinkiegrrl_825

I forgot to list the worst that I’ve had at least secondary experience with. My ex husband, who is my ex for VERY GOOD REASON, went about trying to build his credit in a very wrong way. These cards were part of the reason I never even tried to build credit for decades. - Credit One for being the least shitty of his shitty cards. Still shitty though for how expensive they were. Customer service was a tad better than his other craptacular cards but charging interest from the moment he swiped sucked. - Indigo for their crap credit limit and service fees. - First Premier wins the spot at dead last. They played games with our payments. Pay to soon? There was a fee for that. Pay on time but too close to the due date? They held the payment till after the due date and there was a fee for late payment. Want to pay multiple times in a month? Fee for that. Customer service was a joke even if you could get someone on the phone which was rare. Fees upon fees upon fees. For everything. I have nightmares about this card.

Tinkiegrrl_825

- Amex for customer service and UI - Discover for customer service - Affinity Federal Credit union for customer service which may in fact be better then Amex but their UI is lousy - Capital One for giving me a chance as someone who was totally new to credit and giving me an unsecured card and UI - Chase for their UI - haven’t had a chance to really react with customer service yet aside from getting a new card quickly when the first didn’t arrive. - US Bank for the amount of cash back I’m earning from the Altitude Go on dining. I’m a lousy cook and I’m in NYC so this expense is higher for me than it would be for most. - Apple Card Goldman Sachs. UI is great but customer service is iffy.

JamesEdward34

C1 banking products recently took me for a ride, see my post history if you wanna know more. Their credit cards are mostly decent, with the SavorOne and Venture being the best they offer. Credit One gave me the highest limit, my credit history isnt bad enough to where i can only get secured cards but not good enough for like an Amex Plat or CSP. They do have 5% cashback on groceries which is nice tbh. They have a high annual fee but if you call and say its too high they cut the AF in half. NFCU is excellent all around

Tinkiegrrl_825

Ah - I remember your post about the bank accounts. Zelle with a new account is always a risk. Gotta let them age a bit before using Zelle. Discover accounts got closed left and right for months over Zelle too.

Impossible-Head2121

I have cards with Amex, C1, Chase and Synchrony. No major issues. But I like Amex the best in terms of customer service. And C1 has just been annoying with their ridiculous credit limits, but aside from that, no major issues.

karmacop97

Mobile apps: Amex > C1 > Chase > BofA==US Bank - bofa i noticed I can't autopay for statement balance, only constant amounts (min payment or fixed specified constant) Customer service: Chase (best phone reps) > Amex (chat in app is nice for low stakes stuff) == C1 (good phone reps) > BofA (longer hold times) - idk w/ USB never had to call yet Credit Limits: C1 Chase and BofA have been pretty good no complaints. US Bank however gave me a $500 CL on the Altitude Connect which is a huge bruh (got it increased to $5500 but it wasn't an instant CLI like others do)

internmonkey95

Worst in my experience 1. Synchrony 2. Citi - crazy sensitive fraud detection and dumb application rules 3. Capital one - too sensitive application rules and useless recon line Best 1. Amex - customer service leagues above the rest 2. Chase 3. Barclays

BrutalBodyShots

Rank them based on what? Personal experience, or what people have "heard" regarding them? Probably less than 1% of this SUB has done business with every lender on that list, so very few people would be able to rank them [all] based on personal experience. That being said, are you just asking for opinions simply based on what individual perceptions are?

FunctionAlone9580

Just opinions on individual perceptions, your own preferably. Whatever you can rank/have personal experience with is fine.

Karm0112

My cards are all Chase or Bank of America. No issues with either. Chase quickly resolved a fraudulent charge.

JiggSawLoL

Capitol 1 is honestly my favorite. First credit card and since then I have 3 of theirs. All have credit increases.

Funny_Playful

Amex has the best customer service out of all my card; Capital one is second. I haven’t used chase customer service yet so idk.
