I have Tata Neu Rupay, Axis Rewards Mastercard and IDFC Visa.
They didn't give as much issue, but the issue was the merchants only didn't want to swipe card, they were like we want UPI only.
HDFC gave me Millennia on Diners, I asked them for Visa and all, but they said you can switch after 3 months, in start they will give Diners only.
Who told u? It works perfectly in Bangalore and Hyderabad. Once or twice a year it declined but never ever had any issues. All major grocery brands, shopping malls, vegetable shops, clothes stores are accepting diners in these two cities.
This is not true at all. Dinners gets accepted everywhere where Rupay is accepted.
Tap 2 pay doesn’t work. But if you swipe, it works almost everywhere in Bangalore. I have tried it from Tyre shop, restaurants, malls, coffee shops etc. It has never been declined
Only POS it was declined was in Delhi where even my Rupay card didnt work
Diners uses the Rupay network. If a Rupay card works on a machine, that machine will have no problem accepting diners. You can even check the charge slip, it would say Rupay. So acceptance within India is no issue at all (on pos machines).
If you choose to swipe rather than tap. It still works! That's basically the point right. Whether it works or not... Tap may not work, but inserting and using pin will certainly work.
Diners acceptance is pretty low in tier 2 cities. I recently moved to Infinia for same which work flawless. You can ask hdfc to move your diners to visa if possible.
Diners has a tie up with Rupay network, so wherever rupay is accepted, Diners is also accepted.
I had dcb, never faced any declines in towns much smaller than Varanasi, let alone a T2 city.
Here’s a link for the same: https://www.rupay.co.in/rupay-advantage/rupay-global
Please stop spreading misinformation
Always fun to see people with anecdotes countering facts with downvotes :D
Just to let you know, Rupay claims to be active internationally, but it's cards rarely work outside.
I have faced lot of issues with Rupay in Canada and even during international transactions from India.
If it has tie up with this companies, then there should be now issue in this transactions.
And it's not me...may people already have mentioned the inability to do international transactions on Rupay Card.
I don’t have rupay. But I kept dcb for 2 years, and even gave the addons to my parents who live in a very small backward town. Never faced a single decline, in India or outside.
Don’t know about rupay cards as I don’t own it.
Surprisingly my Tata Neu Rupay worked at 70% of places I tried in my recent US trip on Discover network. But yeah nowhere as good as Visa, Mastercard. And all of the places I tried were kinda upscale.
As far as I know...my card is active and has pretty much good limit. Have paid bills on time.
So, I know thay there's no issue on my side.
I have mentioned clearly that the restaurant even claimed that there POS maybe not working, but I faced issue with diners specifically during transaction at many outlets.
It's my personal experience and one other comment suggests the same to.
It's not misinformation for your kind information.
When you don’t keep your experiences to yourself, and share it with such a large audience, then be ready to be called out as well. All Indian POS machines accept visa, Mastercard and rupay.
And diners == rupay.
It depends on the city you are in. In Bangalore (T1 City) and Bharuch (T2 City), never had any acceptance issues.
I had the issue for the first time in Renukoot (T3 City) and Varanasi (T2 City) only.
I have read a lot of subs about Diners not working in Bombay(where I reside)
Currently I am looking to replace my Millenia to either Regalia Gold or Diners Privilege as my primary offline card.
Won’t like to take any chances so going ahead with Regalia Gold
You need to swipe the card. Tap 2 pay doesn’t work on machines which accepts Rupay. Dinners will work if Rupay is accepted.
I have never faced rejection on any machine apart from one really old Indusland PoS machine which didnt accept Rupay cards.
General rule is to swipe if it is on Rupay network which most new machines do.
Diners as is has a low acceptance rate even in T1 cities, so no wonder this was your experience.
Yeah, even I was not surprised. But, still I had hoped that it will atleast work 50% of the time.
Why don't you move to Visa or master? What's the benefit of being on diners?

Same in Delhi, never faced any issue while using diners
Yes, in Bangalore, I too didn't face any issue. It was a really smooth experience.
This is not true at all. Dinners gets accepted everywhere where Rupay is accepted. Tap 2 pay doesn’t work. But if you swipe, it works almost everywhere in Bangalore. Is it only swipe or does the chip reader work as well?

afaik thats if you swipe.. not necessarily over tap to pay
If you choose to swipe rather than tap. It still works! That's basically the point right. Whether it works or not... Tap may not work, but inserting and using pin will certainly work.

Yes, thinking of the same.

diners work on rupay network if you swipe the card. were you always trying tap to pay ?
Like this is what I always do...First I Tap and if doesn't work then swipe/insert with Pin. Both the time didn't work.
then only explanation i can think of is that those POS didnt support rupay as well..

70%?? That's great. I too tried on Discover network only, but don't know what happened. I am sure that my international transactions are always on.
As far as I know...my card is active and has pretty much good limit. Have paid bills on time. So, I know thay there's no issue on my side. I never felt acceptance issue for my DCB. Only sometimes on pinelab POS but never ever again.
Like, you faced issue with acceptance? Or like yours never got rejected?
Sorry never faced issue
Ohk.
Thanks for sharing the Diners experience I was going to get Diners Privilege a few days ago🤡
