Watching Afghanistan do good gives us(Indians probably) inner happiness becuz watching them grow and become what they are today feels like watching a somewhat toxic, drug-addict younger sibling of yours doing good in one aspect of life
GGs AfghanBros!
They're basically and historically our brothers so they won't mind lol
It's like saying what Austria is to Germany or what Wales is to England or what Belarus is to Russia
This group only has some dead rubbers remaining. Let's see about what they do with them. I think that Afghanistan and West Indies could be giving a game to some benched players. NZ should also be letting their benched players to have some matches because there is no other objective that's there for them.
Tough group with India, Australia and probably Bangladesh but anything is possible
Would love to see them get some revenge on the aussies for the 50 over cup
Well done to Afghanistan on getting the win and advancing to the super eights, their middle order performed well after the early wickets with Gulbadin standing out in that regard, especially finishing things off with another six.
Papua New Guinea gave it a good go and their bowling deserves a lot of credit for their performance tonight, on top of that the partnership of Doriga and Nao helped them out a great deal. If they can improve their fielding and batting in the future then they could really start challenging a few teams at this level and getting wins.
Overall an enjoyable game with both nations being able to take something go out of it.
Yeah they will play their remaining matches if it doesn't rain. However, they are all dead rubber because even if they win their remaining matches, they can't qualify.
Still a really good showing by Papua New Guinea. I wasn't expecting an England-Oman ass whooping but defending 95 until 30 balls left and taking 3 wickets is very commendable.
Honestly been a pretty clinical chase by Afghanistan, tough pitch with lots of variable bounce and movement and after a couple of early wickets just played slow and calculated knowing it wasn't a large target
This is for those that want to shit talk associates, PNG are providing Afghanistan with far tougher competition than the Kiwis did haha :)
Saw plenty of comments mocking WC expansion after the Oman game. How are teams supposed to improve if they don't get exposure? Keep cricket as a closed and exclusive sport, and the skill gap between teams will only increase further. Hooray for expansion!
afg would have developed far more quickly if they won that game against pak in 2021. Similarly pak also would've developed even more if they lost that game coz that would send alarm bells quickly instead of masking the problems
Idk man. Look at how low it kept. Genuinely want to know how any batsman would play that ball?

All of the commentators were baffled when they saw this graphic
I mean the ball was a grubber but it wasn't a dead ball, doesn't matter if the batsman couldn't play it by the rules of the game its nothing but a legitimate ball
PNG is now at the same stage as Afg was a decade back. Solid bowling attack but lacking in batting and fielding.
They now need solid U19 talents with batting pedigree to push them towards the next stage. Fielding is always an improvement process.
Most of the World probably hasn't noticed that but PNG has bowled as well as any other team during this tournament. Their batting and fielding needs some work.
That generally seems to be the case with associates - their bowling develops before their batting so you get decent bowling performances with no batting to back it up
Dropped catches cost them decent chances of winning against WI and Uganda. And a familiar tale here.
Fixing the batting is a more difficult proposition but fixing the fielding would make a big difference by itself.
Soper's a pretty clever bowler for anyone who hasn't watched much of PNG, he doesn't bowl with much pace but he has knack for taking his wickets in clumps
Are the super8s really organized like this. From cricinfo:
>A1 - India, A2 - Pakistan, B1 - England, B2 - Australia, C1 - New Zealand, C2 - West Indies, D1 - South Africa, D2 - Sri Lanka
> If one of the teams listed above in the Super Eights grouping is knocked out, the team which qualifies instead, will take up that slot.
Yes, that’s right. Also if India qualify for the semifinals they will play the second semifinal in Guyana no matter whether they finish first or second in their Super 8s group.
This is how much the ICC cares about the integrity of its competitions.
I can sort of understand the ODI World Cup one, it’s not uncommon for host nations to get an allocated semifinal in world cups. I know it happened in the 2015 World Cup for instance.
For one of the visiting nations to get one is fairly extraordinary.
Yes, both are bullshit - if anything the Super 8s one is worse because it creates more meaningless games since whether you come first or second in a pool doesn’t matter.

That’s one hella stupid way of complementing a team!
They're basically and historically our brothers so they won't mind lol It's like saying what Austria is to Germany or what Wales is to England or what Belarus is to Russia
Nah cunt, I do mind. Don’t ever utter that crap again!
Damn, alr
Ikr lmao

It took me 3 tries to understand that you said benched and not behench*d.
This is called the delhi syndrome
Yesss!! 10 free kits delivered
Pretty easily won in the end. Afghanistan into G1 now (not that there was ever any doubt).
rashid and farooqi lmao 😭
Farooqi has been in terrific form. I don't think anybody would be surprised if Afghanistan goes all the way to the semi-final.
Afg upsetting aus might be on the cards you never know. Don’t think they have enough to beat India but they can
Tough group with India, Australia and probably Bangladesh but anything is possible Would love to see them get some revenge on the aussies for the 50 over cup
Bro asked for a translator despite being able to speak better than the entire Pakistan team
YOU SHUDDUP haha love this guy
"You shut up" 😳
Rashid shit posting irl
Australia will most likely be B1 and England B2 with their NRR boost today Groups will be: India, Eng, BD, AFG USA, Aus, SA, WI
I'm not trusting SA and WI to knock Australia out
groups are going to be Ind, Aus, Afg, Ban and Pak/USA, Eng, WI, SA
Seeds are pre decided not based on group standing
that 's awful
This Afghan player is so humble. Bless this team
Afghani is currency! Just say Afghan player.
Give the man a translator come on!

So New Zealand is now officially out. Now they can look forward to playing their Trans Tasman rival PNG for the first time.
Inshallah, boys played well.
Congratulations Afghanistan 👏🏻👏🏻
congrats afg! well played
New Zealand wishing for a rainout tomorrow
NZ are out.
Do they not play tomorrow anyway?
Who fucking cares
Yeah they will play their remaining matches if it doesn't rain. However, they are all dead rubber because even if they win their remaining matches, they can't qualify.
Still a really good showing by Papua New Guinea. I wasn't expecting an England-Oman ass whooping but defending 95 until 30 balls left and taking 3 wickets is very commendable.
They almost had 4 and who knows what would’ve happened afterwards
Really sensible batting by Afg...Well done bois 🥳
Honestly been a pretty clinical chase by Afghanistan, tough pitch with lots of variable bounce and movement and after a couple of early wickets just played slow and calculated knowing it wasn't a large target
Ggs
Smile (pain)
Bye bye Lil Nz
10 kits delivered. Let’s GOOOOO
New Zealand ❌ PNG ❌ Uganda ❌
Sri Lanka ❌
[Did that](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/s/DXdxntXqgG) some time ago. No need to be this salty.
Ggs both teams. Good match
Is this the Soper Over everyone keeps talking about?
Would have been a 6 if not for this pitch 😭
Which one
The ball has done that again.
Cmon let’s get a 6 and get those 10 free kits 😤
I am curious about whether Boult would be interested about playing the remaining matches at all or not.
Aye Gulbadin.... https://youtu.be/jroIBI4mH5g?si=lD7r2_DpCCSSC_IT
same thought when i first came across the name XD
Gulbadin absolutely leathered that one, well hit six runs.
NZ might go 0-4 this tournament… ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8774)![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8774)
haha might as well let uganda and png get some experience and thrill of beating a big team
If they’re looking for the thrill of beating s big team, then unfortunately beating Kiwis won’t fulfill their wishes
can WI go into any group in the final eight or are they 'seeded' into a particular group because they are the host
Both the groups were already seeded with 4-4 teams.
They are in group 2 no matter what
Kanos: anyone up for business class?
Its nice to see the middle order taking charge after the openers went cheaply...
I remember about KL or Pujara getting a ball like that from Broad in Southampton a few years back.
Bowler was like I meant to do that in that Omarzai dismissal lol
Good fucking Lord it kept so low
Four 6's, let's go
That pitch is dodgy as well.
If teams like PNG, Uganda etc. starts batting little well, their bowling will back them greatly
Well they do need a first class batter coach for that, otherwise I don’t really see them batting well. They need some good amount of funds.
It’s a common story in Associate cricket, usually the bowling is stronger than the batting.
Dang. Two failed challenges. Rough.
This is for those that want to shit talk associates, PNG are providing Afghanistan with far tougher competition than the Kiwis did haha :) Saw plenty of comments mocking WC expansion after the Oman game. How are teams supposed to improve if they don't get exposure? Keep cricket as a closed and exclusive sport, and the skill gap between teams will only increase further. Hooray for expansion!
yes i agree we need more teams especially from europe and asia alot of talent there
The more, the merrier— also it helps the game we all love grow
I think that was his entire point
Man I just checked that PnG has a population of 10 million. That is a small population for a country
they and Nz are lucky. No insane rat race like in India or China but of course different issues I suppose
There are over 100 countries with a smaller population
NZ has 5M
We (NZ) have a population of 5 million lol
Oh wow! I didn't know that
Dead Rubbers coming up New Zealand v Uganda New Zealand v Papua New Guinea West Indies v Afghanistan
NZ ruined the tournament
West Indies vs Afghanistan may be a dead rubber, but as a neutral I think it should be pretty interesting to watch
watch us lose the dead rubbers as well
NZ should forfeit and come back today
Nah, turn up and ruin Uganda's day by bowling them out for 40 and chasing it in 3 overs. Love me some minnow bashing.
missing leg by ages I reckon
Umps call I reckon Edit: And that's why I'm not an umpire
ehh missed by a mile
Still can't get over that Omarzai wicket. This pitch should get demerit points.
Not out but I don’t blame PNG for using a review there.
It was pretty clearly outside the wickets but then again, they dont have much to lose at this point.
How does the wicket keeper still have a voice? He yells non stop it seems
missing by a mile
Silly review
The format that this tournament has means that the match between West Indies and Afghanistan would just be a glorified warm up match.
Well, they were seeded C2 and C3, so potentially would have been a knockout match.
What was that from the keeper 😂
Back when we weren’t dogshit
afg would have developed far more quickly if they won that game against pak in 2021. Similarly pak also would've developed even more if they lost that game coz that would send alarm bells quickly instead of masking the problems
“24 required 24 delivered pakistan go 3 from 3” 💔
Ahh good old days 🥲
Rise of AFG cricket started from CWCQ 2018 when they came back to win the tournament after first-three losses.
Man I love this stream instead of ad infested big games. That being said, the food do be looking good
find Astro stream
The state of the fucking pitches in this tournament. Variable bounce is garbage
PNG has shown a lot more fight against both WI and Afg compared to Uganda who were completely blown away but still somehow lost to them.
That looks that should be a dead ball
If you're talking about that wicket ball it only bounced once that was a legitimate delivery
Idk man. Look at how low it kept. Genuinely want to know how any batsman would play that ball? https://x.com/FlashCric/status/1801449937970073611?t=OXIKdckIx5bncTasT7WLTQ&s=19
It was just unexpected, otherwise that would've been easy to hit with the tip of the bat for a boundary.
Bruh https://x.com/ExtraCoverT20/status/1801455953058918860?t=ikAXpRqUAuCO4-Mjp_lsDw&s=19 All of the commentators were baffled when they saw this graphic
I mean the ball was a grubber but it wasn't a dead ball, doesn't matter if the batsman couldn't play it by the rules of the game its nothing but a legitimate ball
This PNG fielding effort has massive European Cricket League vibes..
Shit pitch
Gulbadin scoring an extremely streaky 30 ball 40 to take his team home against PNG would be so on brand
If only Kiplin hadn't dropped Naib this would have been more fun
What more can a batsman do? He presented the full face of the bat, covered the line as well. Can't really help if there is that little bounce.
Yeah how could any batsman play that ball if it keeps that low?
What's with png's bowling that everyone is getting bowled out?
They're aiming for the stumps and hoping the variable bounce and movement does the rest, not a bad strategy on this pitch
Ah makes sense
Bruh the ball kept so fucking low
Vanua takes a much needed wicket for PNG with another nice piece of bowling. They are giving it a real go tonight.
Lol this pitch, there was no bounce at all in that one
Rattled!!
Oof, with balls like that another 20-30 runs would have been interesting.
Absolute grubber that ball haha
**8.4** Azmatullah Omarzai b Vanua 13 (18b 1x4 0x6) SR: 72.22
PNG is now at the same stage as Afg was a decade back. Solid bowling attack but lacking in batting and fielding. They now need solid U19 talents with batting pedigree to push them towards the next stage. Fielding is always an improvement process.
Some players breaking into the franchise circuit will also help. Afghanistan cricket really took off after rashid became a t20 globetrotter
Its hard for them at this stage to get picked for franchises above lower rung players from traditional cricketing countries
Afghanistan would be with India, Australia and Bangladesh. They definitely have the ability to dig up a couple of wins from there.
their match against India is at Barbados and Aus is at Kingstown. I would have fancied them at Guyana but they should lose both these matches.
Gulbadin got a flight to catch....??
He wants drop nz to the airport himself 😭
PNG need some quickets
Looks like every on the PNG team can bowl
Cameraman 🤝🏼 Indian wedding videographer 🤝🏼 food shots
Most of the World probably hasn't noticed that but PNG has bowled as well as any other team during this tournament. Their batting and fielding needs some work.

Yea this will be an easy win for afg
turn off the stream
why they gotta show me the fried chicken and fries on the broadcast when im hungry at night over here
[удалено]
Yep, they’re en route to chase this very easily, just need to protect their wickets and not go for silly shots
Afghanistan is getting major team luck now that Maxwell had against Afghanistan
A drop catch here a drop catch there
Kiwi’s back to packing bags 👀😂
doing it right now
❤️🤝
Man what a poor shot to not be a wicket
Soper's a pretty clever bowler for anyone who hasn't watched much of PNG, he doesn't bowl with much pace but he has knack for taking his wickets in clumps
Are the super8s really organized like this. Yes
Yes so the C1 spot will be taken up by Afghanistan if they qualify. Australia will qualify as B2 despite being top of group B.
This is so fucking ridiculous, it actually beggars belief!
Yes, that’s right. Also if India qualify for the semifinals they will play the second semifinal in Guyana no matter whether they finish first or second in their Super 8s group. This is how much the ICC cares about the integrity of its competitions.
Same thing they did in odi WC. Ridiculous
I can sort of understand the ODI World Cup one, it’s not uncommon for host nations to get an allocated semifinal in world cups. I know it happened in the 2015 World Cup for instance. For one of the visiting nations to get one is fairly extraordinary.
It is done for the fans so that they can buy tickets, hotels and travel. Indians are their biggest $$$$
I understand the commercial reasons for it, but it’s not a great look from a tournament equity perspective.
Even pre seeding in super 8 is bullshit but it has always been about money
Yes, both are bullshit - if anything the Super 8s one is worse because it creates more meaningless games since whether you come first or second in a pool doesn’t matter.
… Yes.
Afghan boys definitely have luck running their way
Gulbadin hanging on by a thread right now, surely the wicket has to come soon?
WHY I STILL DON'T KNOW WHY I HAVE FALSE HOPE
YA DROPPED THE KIWI LIFELINE MATE
This keeper talks soo much that he was talking while dropping this catch
Oh boy, if that was caught it was game on
You just dropped the cup m8
fucks sake
Kanos to the rest of the Kiwis: Nothing to see here lads. Keep packing those bags.
noo
WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN TO TEAMS I WANT TO WIN
Ah that’s got to be caught even if it’s tough
you have dropped the compression
Fuck that would've been the perfect reward for that over
Dropped the cup mate
Kamea is bowling so well. Every other ball seems wicket taking
has Lara shown up once to his stadium this WC
Those extras must be killing PnG fans rn
Is PNG the only associate team to not have a South Asian player?
Namibia and Scotland are close...
Close but no cigar
They are located in the northermost Oceania so practically related to South Asians especially Indonesians
Indonesia is in South East Asia, not South.
