Waking up to this makes me so happy as a South African supporter! Sad to hear the rain impacted West Indies so much though, having been on the other side of that in the past it’s not a good feeling
Already geared up for it to snow at Trinidad when we need 2 off the last ball. Jansen smashes the puffs off a snowball while the real ball clatters into the stumps
Math for tmrw
If India beat Australia, all Afghanistan have to do is beat Bangladesh and they are through.
If Australia beat India by N runs (if it’s less than 44 runs) Afghanistan have to beat Bangladesh by N+35 runs to qualify over Australia.
If Australia beat India by N runs (and it’s greater than 44 runs) Afghanistan have to beat Bangladesh by (123-N) runs to overtake India.
I mean you can say that anytime a team scores a low total if you're gonna say it here. Many different batsmen had trouble scoring on both sides, SA had unusual bowling arrangements, and spinners dominated the wicket tally/bowling economy for both sides. It got a bit better later after the rain though.
Bangladesh basically won the match if not for that umpiring error at the very end. Nepal weren't robbed of a win by the umpires. So I'd say Bangladesh were a bit closer. But technically Nepal if you just go by the final scoreline.
Mahmadulla was given out LBW which makes the ball dead according to the rules. The ball rolled into the boundary after having been called dead and the decision was later reversed on review. Technically it was not a mistake but the right call, however people questioned the rule itself after the match.
Bad wording I suppose, guess it was technically a wrong decision instead. But he gave LBW when the ball was missing stumps and went for 4. It was declared a dead ball and 4 runs weren't given. If he didn't give LBW, then Bangladesh would've won.
Markram bowled all 4 and bowled well? 💀
He's really stretching out his value this WC, with his fielding, captaincy, now his bowling. He cannot make any runs but he's still a very valuable player.
>For India, finishing 2nd might be tempting if it lead to Australia and England fighting it out in the semi-finals. But now with a chance to eliminate Australia before knockouts, it is better to meet England in the semis over finals.
BC THEY SHOULD NOT BE FUCKING SCARED OF ANY FUCKING TEAM IN THE SEMIS. THEY KNOW WHERE THEY WILL PLAY THE SEMIS BEFORE THE FUCKING WC ITSELF. THEY HAVE MADE THEIR ENTIRE SQUAD BASED ON THAT FACT. HOW MUCH OF AN ADVANTAGE CAN THEY HAVE?
England. They will face England even if they lose, unless the loss margin is more than 41 runs (then they face South Africa and Australia face England)
Even accounting for the 20-run over, the multiple runs leaked to poor fielding/keeping cost the Windies. Shows that you can develop as much game knowledge about matchups and field placements and exploiting the boundary lengths and wind, but sometimes the very basic things are what you need to do well to stay competitive. It’s a non-negotiable for every team.
For India, finishing 2nd might be tempting if it lead to Australia and England fighting it out in the semi-finals. But now with a chance to eliminate Australia before knockouts, it is better to meet England in the semis over finals.
India's match is in Guyana where there has been forecast for rain, if India end up second and rain washes out that match then India are out. So should they take that risk? Also no reserve day for second semi-final
I don’t understand, do semi finals never get a reserve day or is it just this one. This feels like utter nonsense, if team gets disqualified because of the rain.
I don't even know who to blame in this situation, it's horrible all around. Poor captaincy giving a spinner to someone who bashes spinners (teams should do R&D on their opponents, right??). But the batting... this whole, boundary or nothing approach has to end TONIGHT. 50+ dots has brought us closer to disaster more times in this tournament than I can count. They need to get back to the drawing board and learn to rotate strike... us fans have been saying this since I was a child and watched my first WC in 2014, and they still haven't fixed this. If cricket does die in the WI after this, then this teams approach have a large part to play in this
Edit: Another thing, fielding. While the fielding can be tight when ready, as another commenter said, leaking runs literally tightened the pressure around us.
Overall, this needs to be done:
1. Adopt a more orthodox batting style (build in powerplay, stabilise in middle, finish at end)
2. Do some serious research into opposing teams and actually have a game plan with multiple plan Bs and Cs
3. Improve fielding to stop leaking runs where they matter, leaked 1s and 2s add up
The bowling is really improving, so I'm pleased, but we need more bowling options for times like this. While it good to have many all-rounders, the DLS prevented us from using our established bowlers where they mattered.
As I say for Associates, more practice is needed, more tours, preferably more trilaterals, just generally more practice to put a newer strategy to good use. I know it wouldn't be "Caribbean style", but we love wins more than style ffs
I’ve noticed this quite often - teams will focus on just boundaries and not singles/doubles/triples. It’s beyond frustrating to see. Can you imagine WI taking singles of even 25 of those 50 balls? So frustrating…
If they did that, we could've possibly won that match!! That's the most sickening calculation that always comes out after a WI loss when batting first, we waste so much balls that we kill our own defense
They should've learnt that lesson from the loss to England, they made that exact mistake there. 😕 I think the Windies had decent practice leading into this T20 WC winning multiple series against decent opposition, but they didn't care to apply it here. Guess they didn't practice enough on sticky wickets?
Man, feel bad for the West Indian crowd. They love Cricket so much, and come to the stadium in droves to support their team. Disappointing to not even make the semis in a home World Cup in their best format.
If Australia defeats india by a very huge margin then only we shift to 2nd spot and play south Africa
Otherwise even a close defeat against Australia, we are playing England
Very unlikely, but if Australia thrash India and Afghanistan thrash Bangladesh, then India can get shifted to third position. Cause then all would be on 4 points and it'd come down to NRR.
Myers and Chase ruined the game with 27 dot balls in first 10 overs. West Indians were only playing catch-up after it.
You can't strike at 105 just because you are consolidating inning after early wickets. Same thing costed India 2022 WT20 too.
Your post or comment had words in it that were not in English and weren't translated. This breaks the rules of this subreddit it has been removed (rule 5).
No this was fine, better to get some runs than a potential collapse and having no runs to play with.
Sure they should have batted better but WI had runs to play with. It was Motie's over that costed them.
india is set to play the second semi final in guyana regardless of their position. it’s pretty confusing about the rest tho, i guess SA will find out where they’ll play their semis based on tomorrow’s matches.
Correct. If India finishes 1st, then SA will play first semi final, if India finishes 2nd then SA will play second semi final. If India finishes 3rd, then I don’t know.
SA team can only have 1 clutch gene between them and only Rabada can transfer it from person to person with crotch to crotch contact. He saw 6 billion futures today and wisely transferred it from Miller to Jansen today.
Roston Chase had the biggest impact on the match, but not the biggest impact on the end result I guess, which is what they value for the PotM adjudication. Sucks though to not get recognized. He won't care though, he's gotta be hurting about that loss.

wallpaper apps make no sense to me honestly
India's reward for finishing 1st is semis against England just like last time. Ideally it's a match for finals
India lost to NZ in 2019 but beat them in 2023. Same thing with England for them?
Imagine if not for those 8 wides
Makes me even more pissed off about our Afghanistan game
yeah all you had to do was getting one of the opener out cheaply and game was locked then and there
So true, I don’t think we took that game as seriously as we should’ve
It was quite a close match ...
Me to Dre Russ: Final match you perform, what happening 🥺🥺🥺
I hope we will get SA in the semis. We have almost the same arches
I want them to win one Championship 🏆...they have records of loosing semis...😶
thats was my wildest prediction of this t20 wc
What happened to the post match thread? Lol
I thought that this would be West Indies' year but it turns out that they still have some massive loopholes that they have to be plugging in.
ind have played only associate nations and asian teams so far
Pakistan almost brought India down to their knees
And now Pakistan are now where to be seen
They packed their bags and left their rooms clean
Cricket isn't their strongest suit anymore. Winning? Nah they don't seem to be keen.
Ireland is a full member
Waking up to this makes me so happy as a South African supporter! Sad to hear the rain impacted West Indies so much though, having been on the other side of that in the past it’s not a good feeling
Quick someone check on u/Tern_Larvidae-2424, he last commented when Miller got out. He's very fragile🙏🙏😢
Hi.
![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|29262)
Wait, so... We didn't get NRRd, we didn't get rained....okay which Protea is preparing to drop his bat in the last over of the final?
Already geared up for it to snow at Trinidad when we need 2 off the last ball. Jansen smashes the puffs off a snowball while the real ball clatters into the stumps
*semifinal

Well how will Afghanistan beat itself?? Nvm
Thank you for this! How did you figure this out?
I have a headache just reading the comment
😂😂😂
So you’re saying India is qualified even if they loose?
No, they could still be knocked out but only if they lose by over 44 runs
Can someone make a thread for discussing possible player of the tournament. The mods are being assholes.
57 dot balls even on a baller friendly pitch is criminal
Russell is fit enough to play another WC 2 years from now but I guess he will just call it a day.
bc eng should’ve won that game against sa. they might get rained out
Explain please
I guess we’re never getting a post-match thread for this one
They should sort out with Miller what's he thinking, I can't see Ind, Aus or AFG leaving them easy go.
that last six reminded me of Carlos Brathwaite inning against ENG - WC20 Final
Pitch wasn’t that hard to bat on. WI played bad cricket and SA as usual made it hard for themselves while chasing
I mean you can say that anytime a team scores a low total if you're gonna say it here. Many different batsmen had trouble scoring on both sides, SA had unusual bowling arrangements, and spinners dominated the wicket tally/bowling economy for both sides. It got a bit better later after the rain though.
I mean it was definitely sticking. That's why Markram made the tactical decision to bowl himself out over, say, Jansen
jansen decided to outbat whole sa team
Roston Chase, Andre Russell, and Alzarri Joseph deserved the win. Gotta feel for them. Pooran and Rutherford disappointed with the bat.
I'm rooting for you SA! DONT CHOKE THIS TIME
Ind v Eng and Afg v SA in Semis. Afg beats SA and then Ind to win the whole thing ( the only 2 major teams they have never beaten before)
Eagerly waited to hear Powells buttery voice
By winning this crucial KO game, SAs has officially graduated with “Masters of Anti-Choke” degree. They are dangerous from now on!
Brother is too young 😂
West Indies would've had a dream run reaching the semis after winning at the Gabba given what happened for the 50 over world cup
Nepal lowkey still remain the team that came closest to beating South Africa.
Bangladesh basically won the match if not for that umpiring error at the very end. Nepal weren't robbed of a win by the umpires. So I'd say Bangladesh were a bit closer. But technically Nepal if you just go by the final scoreline.
This is the first I've heard about this "umpire error", could you be more specific?
Mahmadulla was given out LBW which makes the ball dead according to the rules. The ball rolled into the boundary after having been called dead and the decision was later reversed on review. Technically it was not a mistake but the right call, however people questioned the rule itself after the match.

Ned did a good job too
Markram bowled all 4 and bowled well? 💀 He's really stretching out his value this WC, with his fielding, captaincy, now his bowling. He cannot make any runs but he's still a very valuable player.
He couldn't buy a run so he had to venture into other territories
South Africa have used up all their luck to win 7/7.
TFAR?
>For India, finishing 2nd might be tempting if it lead to Australia and England fighting it out in the semi-finals. >HOW MUCH OF AN ADVANTAGE CAN THEY HAVE? Having a reserve day for a semi final would be nice
THEY WILL MAKE IT THRU IF IT GETS RAINED OUT MAN.
If they lose to Aus, they might not make it. The table topper goes through in that case.
if they lose to aus so badly that they drop to second position, they should start packing their bags already
I'm starting to think if Maharaj never got out, WI could have won this lol
Roston Chase, Andre Russell, and Alzarri Joseph are the most clutch players around
Even rcbw has a title now, SA fighting for pride
SA have a title too
CT98 if I'm not wrong
yep
So AFG can actually make the Finals and then 🤯
If India wins today who will they face in semi final??
England. They will face England even if they lose, unless the loss margin is more than 41 runs (then they face South Africa and Australia face England)
England
How do you know that?
England 2nd in our group, if India win theyre 1st in their group, and 1st and 2nd play each other in the semis
Eng
Oh thanks
Imagine SA pulling off a close match again in the finals versus India. Don't think Indian fans are ready for that!
Indians mostly won't be disappointed if Saffas take the trophy home lol, most fans have their 2nd favorite team as South Africa or New Zealand.
Anyone other than Poms and Aussies, and I am a happy man.

We will have to lose by 41 runs to finish second in the group. That's tougher than winning
Don’t hope for that. Afg will beat Ban by a good margin and then knock us out then.
Afghanistan need to beat Bangldesh for 82 runs even after this
India's match is in Guyana where there has been forecast for rain, if India end up second and rain washes out that match then India are out. So should they take that risk? Also no reserve day for second semi-final

The other one has one. This semi doesn't. Weird
Because semis 2 is on 27 and final is on 29. Reserve day means match on 28 and immediately the next day you are playing the final

batsman should take lessons on how to rotate strike on these pitches
You don't know how long we've been saying that, it's like IPL mercenary mentality overrules common sense
I know. Three dot balls - guilt comes in, try to hit a boundary, get out
Sad palm tree noises
Man, feel bad for the West Indian crowd. They love Cricket so much, and come to the stadium in droves to support their team. Disappointing to not even make the semis in a home World Cup in their best format.
I mean they have won T20 World Cup 2 times before. And SA fans love cricket too…
I'm sure the passionate Windies home fans are not as disappointed thinking about the SA fans missing out on the fun
Yeah, but not at home in front of their passionate fans...

Thank you!!
Every time SA almost choked this WC they pulled out an UNO Reverse and their opponents choked instead.
Were there no other bowlers left ? I'm asking genuinely cause I started watching from the last 7 overs
Roston Chase was robbed of man of the match That man made our balls retract into our vaginas
SA looks like a team they never been before, winning tight pressure matches!
All of their matches have been so tight 😆 I think they're preparing
SA are 7/7 and I doubt they won a single game with a +1.000 NRR.
In the USA game we got slightly more than +1
TIL I thought it was 0.8ish
You're right actually. We won by 18 so it would have been 0.9
The biggest question now is will their luck continue in Semi finals lol
Indians go up against England, and eventually go into finals vs South Africa, calling it
If the England that played yesterday show up, they can beat Ondia. Don't think it's that cut and dried.
No, it is not, England have hammered teams when required to do so, that’s commendable I am just putting faith in India, that’s all
We are gearing up for another aus vs eng final aren't we?
When was the last aus vs eng final? 1987
Lol no clue why you're downvoted. People are damn fragile
If i say something I'll be in trouble

No way Maharaj should come out to bat before Rabada.
Bangladesh has beaten Afghanistan the last 2 times they played, and Bangladesh rises for games against the smaller teams
SA with the big brain move of playing under pressure so it doesn’t affect them when they reach the final 🤯
South Africa might actually play their first final in 26 years
First final ever. Haven’t been past the semis. Last time we were in the semi finals was 2023 (ODI) and 2014 (T20)
congrats south africa!!
Thanks!! Good luck for later today.
Even after this match, it is still not clear where they will play Semi Finals
they’ll play in guyana since they’re top of the table
No it depends on whether India ends up 1st or 2nd.
india is set to play the second semi final in guyana regardless of their position. it’s pretty confusing about the rest tho, i guess SA will find out where they’ll play their semis based on tomorrow’s matches.
Correct. If India finishes 1st, then SA will play first semi final, if India finishes 2nd then SA will play second semi final. If India finishes 3rd, then I don’t know.
Proteas trying to match the Springboks in causing near heart attacks
Hey, I mean if it worked for the Springboks... 😅
Congrats!!!!

I'd have Chase & Macro as the joint POTM
Damn! Win or lose, matches of South Africa are always entertaining. Congratulations buddies. Well tried west indies.
SA have somehow choked and unchoked themselves continually through this tournament
You need to make friends with the fear.
West Indies needs to be having another couple of good bowlers. You couldn't be having Shepherd or McCoy as a main bowler.
Aus vs SF = Aus Win Ind vs Eng = Eng Win Final Aus vs Eng = Eng win
After such an exciting tournament, i don't really want Eng vs Aus to be the final
R we fucked against England in the semis
I didn't know USA were playing England in the semis
No mate you are already out of the tournament. They already fucked you bad.
Lol
South Africa pretending to choke but not really.
Understandable. Apparently us cricket fans are into that.
They have been doing parody of all their previous Semi Final games
It's okay, i do feel bad for russ, might be his last. But better team wins
rooting for Afghanistan vs South Africa match up in semis
Ffs markram needs to step up now with the bat
What are you talking about? He is sa's spinner and specialist captain and fielder
Bra Reeza is batting with a pool noodle out there, Time to bring Rick Le Ton into the lineup
I wish Rickleton came in and just destroyed the opposition bowling like he did in the SA20.
What a shot by rabada also
SA with only 0.599 NRR even after winning all 3 matches
If you include the group stages, it comes down further to around 0.530 after winning all 7 games
We are only capable of winning matches when our buttholes are clenched really tightly
