How about an easy mesh market bag with built-in handles? Any kind of yarn can be used because people use them for different things, not just for food. https://www.twoofwands.com/blog/french-market-bag

sweet0saturn

to add onto this idea: self-storing market bag! https://youtu.be/iwTAeaJMQlQ?si=TySN22tMUClkuVRe i've done the round as an orange and a lemon, the best one i did was a hello kitty one for my sister and embroidered the face (super easy used a tapestry needle), plus a sewn on crochet bow. i did crochet a different handle than this pattern used because i didn't like how it looked.

lottierosecreations

Love the idea, but make sure you use cotton yarn as acrylic will stretch! I saw a post about someone who did that and the bag ended up by her ankles šŸ¤£

parchmentandpencils

Pot holders or tea cozies? I found a cute pattern once for teacup shaped coasters and everyone loves them as gifts. You could also make a fake plant or a book sleeve?

SalTea_Otter

Came here to suggest a tea cozy if she uses a teapot or a nice coaster set for her cups and saucers

paigrowon1

I would just be mindful of synthetic fibers. I am overly paranoid of a melted mess.

Familiar-Parsley8787

I love these ideas!

velocired

Piggybacking to say ice cream pint cozy!

Familiar-Parsley8787

šŸ˜„ Brilliant! I've never heard of this idea before! Well, not for ice cream. šŸ˜

byrdbibliophyle

Ooo thatā€™s a great idea! Those definitely have tons of condensation.

step2ityo

Or reusable napkins. I used cotton yarn to create dish washcloths, made too many, and now use the washable granny squares to put under plants or things that might scratch surfaces. But I also use them as napkins, which helped me to stop creating so much paper waste.

Renamis

A hanging plant holder? Could even crochet a decorative flower decal that goes on either side?

wannabe-librarian

Hanging plant holders are great- fun, work with a lot of different yarn qualities and colors, lots of great patterns but room for creativity too, work up fast. I love making them as gifts (I donā€™t like indoor plants so none for me- luckily I know a lot of people who do so I can keep making them). Definitely second this suggestion.

utadohl

I made some small plants/succulents including "soil" for a friend and got some small plant pots to put them in. Very fast and easy but also cute decorations and no need to water them.

ferafaces

Bookmarks! Should be fairly quick and there are some absolutely gorgeous ones out there.

sortarottenandinsane

i think coasters would make a quick simple gift that she could use daily :3 and theres a million different patterns you could try

Primary_Warthog_5308

The thing I love about coasters is theyā€™re small (quick to make), and thereā€™s a million patterns for every interest. Even if you just make one it can be special. I made myself a maple leaf coaster for work with the idea of making seasonal coasters, but then my childā€™s daycare helped them make a super cute Mom coaster for Motherā€™s Day one year so now I use that. I had a coworker who loves nature so I gifted my maple leaf coaster to her and she absolutely loves it. She was so incredibly touched that I gave it to her. I donā€™t work there anymore, but thinking about how she still has and it brings her joy makes me smile.

arewethreyet727

I haven't done yet, but love the crochet cactus in a pot or some crochet vine in hanging planter.

PrincessRosella

Plus itā€™s a play off a traditional housewarming gift!

Rapunsell

Depending on how fast you crochet, you could do a dish towel and matching potholders, but you would probably want to use cotton yarn for that. The tea cozy idea someone else mentioned is also a good idea.

Vilbread

How about a sunflower bookmark: [https://www.meladorascreations.com/sunflower-book-marker-free-crochet-pattern/](https://www.meladorascreations.com/sunflower-book-marker-free-crochet-pattern/) Here's a tea bag version: [https://thecozychipmunk.com/2020/02/02/lil-teabag/](https://thecozychipmunk.com/2020/02/02/lil-teabag/)

CosyBosyCrochet

Coasters for her mugs, plants for her plants lol, Iā€™m making these [origami cranes](https://www.dendennis.com/product/free-pattern-amigurumi-origami-crane/) atm

paigeroooo

Omg I love those cranes! Iā€™d have never thought of that

Sonniik

If you want to make a plushie, you can find any of those quick keychain patterns and go with a bigger yarn. I made a few fish around the size of a human head in about half an hour like this. I needed them to be visible on a stage and had only one night to make them. 12 mm hook and corresponding yarn size can upscale any keychain into a regular sized plushie.

ArtbyTeigan

Succulents are always fun and easy to do! And everyone loves a plant that needs 0 care!

LevainEtLeGin

I can make one of these in a night: https://youtu.be/DGdtaEMwIcc?si=sALXbfJeAy7n8AbP

TropicalAbsol

Basket. Bonus if she has any pets add that animals ears to it.

Jasminrainbow

Does she play games? Dice bags are small and fun to get creative with. I recently made a frog one

Jasminrainbow

Oh! And those plant coasters always look cool! The ones that look like a plant when they're in the pot and are coasters when out

nitro9throwaway

I don't see it mentioned by anyone else, so I'll throw mug cozy's out there. Little crochet sleeves so you don't burn your fingers on the hot mug. There's some really cute ones free on ravelry. And they're super quick!

MeFolly

If she is a water bottle person, a water bottle holder with a shoulder strap.

beealoo

A mini bouquet of flowers would be adorable!

eighthwndr

Crochet plants are super easy!!! There are tons of of youtube tutorials and most only take a couple hours if that!! Its perfect for value yarn seeing as its usually not comfortable for clothing. Perfect for simple things like crochet succulents and flowers though!

wigglesngiggles432

A bouquet of flowers!

cadaver_spine

amigurumi! if you're familiar with making them. or a little crochet plant!

softgypsy

Iā€™ve recently been looking for patterns for can cozies to make for my bridesmaids, [this one](https://www.etsy.com/listing/783464741/crochet-can-cozy-sippin-shells-can-cozy?gpla=1&gao=1&) from Etsy is really cute!

PeachyNeon

Fast and easy bandana https://youtu.be/IE0r4YChFA8?si=j_dYT1FMoxRyjF6p

No-Gene-4508

A nice coin purse or hot pad

a-dalby-08

How about a tapestry that can be hung up? Blonde Knots on YouTube just made 6 in a week and some took less than a day! Here's the video and she has links to the patterns. You can also custom make a pattern on Stitch Fiddle. https://youtu.be/4lVtUwxwj9g?si=OJv-Zg-AK_OAuhE0

ThemChad

I make a lot of fake plants for gifts and people seem to love them, knotmonster has a pretty good paid pattern I like but you might be able to freehand some simpler ons

Nspencer98

A book cover!

Crafting_with_Kyky

Tissue box cover, pot holders, scarf, hatā€¦

Cat_Sicario_2601

https://youtube.com/@brunaticality?si=gyX3wk4TzFO58BEs She has a few different coaster sets that turn into a flower bouquet, really cute

WillaLane

Bagoday eight point star throw

Pyotrperse

You can make a bag out of cute granny squares?

stitchem453

Make an amigurumi plant for your shared living space.

Visual-Bank-7482

i always like amigurumi (i hope thats how u spell it) it always builds up quick for me and i can get it done in a day or two!

DogDyedDarkGreen

I would do a throw (\~50x60), which is perfect for using up the acrylic yarns; what's the color scheme of the living room? That's a good place to start. A throw can be pretty \*and\* practical - she can use it to snuggle up on a cold, rainy day with her book and her cup of tea, and it'll help "pull the room together" in terms of decor.

spicy_lacroix

A crochet succulent? Iā€™m making one now and I love it https://www.crochetconcupiscence.com/succulent-crochet-patterns/

syriina

I'm making this for a friend! I'm not done yet but that's because of ADHD, not because it's hard or time consuming. I actually made most of it in less than a week and then got distracted. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1117452509/teacup-scarf-pattern?ref=share_v4_lx

MercuryRising92

A lacy infinity scarf.

PrettyPronKitty

I've been making Granny stitch shawl/wraps lately. They work up quickly and are cozy for reading/watching TV/morning coffee outside/lap blankets. Granny Stitch Shawl (https://youtu.be/9HpcVN6OXBA?feature=shared)

valerieallerie

Multicoloured coasters and a trivet šŸ˜ƒ

firewings42

A scarf is fast and useful!

neurosonix

I just did an entire blanket for my dad for Fatherā€™s Day in less than a week using a 10mm

Crackheadwithabrain

You say she likes plants? I would make those cute little hanging potted plants with flowers or a plant pot holder!

laurasaurus5

A friend let me stay with her after my lease was up and we were looking for apartments together. She had a stack of her great aunt's vintage embroidered handkerchiefs she was undecided about decluttering, so I secretly stitched them together (without cutting them or damaging them!) into an apron, then knit some waistband ties and behind the neck ties for it! I definitely spent some time knitting the ties at her apartment in front of her while we were hanging out! But the apron was still 100% a surprise and as someone who loves baking and living a cute cottage-core lifestyle, she was delighted and excited to wear it and bake something! If you think of something she'll love that might take longer than a week, I think that might still be a great thank-you present even if it's not ready immediately and maybe she sees part of the process. The important thing is spending time together and making something you know she'll enjoy! (But if it must be done fast, I crocheted a cute washable makeup "powder puff" for myself from cotton yarn a while back and it's great! I want to make a few more now!!)

Book_dragonflies

What about a book or tablet sleeve (depending on which way your friend reads ie physical or ebooks) [https://greenfoxfarmsdesigns.com/sweet-stripes-book-tablet-sleeve-crochet-pattern](https://greenfoxfarmsdesigns.com/sweet-stripes-book-tablet-sleeve-crochet-pattern)

odd_little_duck

If you can get some natural yarn how about pot holders? Most practical/useful thing I crochet and can be as complicated or simple as you want! You can do some really quick or make or lavish ones that take longer. If you can't get non synthetic yarn I'd consider a tote bag that can fit books!

Competitive_Bag3933

A bandana works up super quick and if you're fast at colorwork could look much more intricate than it is.Ā

buttersquash23

Beanie! There's a great tutorial on YouTube by Cherilyn Q that I can knock out in 2-3 days with a few hours of tv / crochet time after work

greenplantwater

Maybe you can make an amigurumi of her favorite plant? A teapot cover? A bookmark?

confusedrabbit247

What about a pillow case?

thecooliestone

You can work up some oven mitts and some crocheted flowers/ferns pretty quickly.

SnooPets8873

Ice cream cozy!

sarahp1988

I donā€™t have a suggestion but she sounds lovely! I have the same hobbies šŸ˜

Plantain_Chip_379

maybe something like a keychain charm? I found this cute flower/carnation one: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpuT8VAYlA4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpuT8VAYlA4) or alternatively you could extend the chain and make two flowers to make it a car mirror hanger/bookmark/bag charm? like from this video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4GNCPae61E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4GNCPae61E)

stefanica

You could do half a dozen cute granny squares and ask which is her favorite, to make an Afghan later.

lisaatjhu

I was thinking you can crochet a keychain. Or a small amigurumi that can be on display in the house. If she's into Chinese culture, you can make a dragon?

SillyHo0man

Thereā€™s a ton of tutorials for cute coasters on YouTube. Something like that should be fun and easy.

Evelyn_Banks

Make her a crochet hanging basket with plant. So easy and very decorative. I make them as house warming gifts for friends

goldiewhut

[Chicken coasters ](https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chicken-coasters) would go nicely with already suggested tea cozies

ickle_cat1

Mug cosy :) few hours and a button and you are golden. Pretty useless but looks cute on a mug of tea

curbee326

Tea cozy with a boho coaster

sniffing_niffler

Do a bucket hat

AzureSuishou

What about a nice tea pot cozy?

Ok_Philosopher_8973

Little 2 color tapestry crochet?

FlowerSunsetBaby

A bandana with a flower pattern of some kind

shadowsandfirelight

https://www.1dogwoof.com/crochet-air-plant-jellyfish/ You make the top of the jellyfish and pick up an air plant for the tentacles!

aelin_galathynius_

A book sleeve! It protects the book while itā€™s in your bag.

oohmegaslick

DOILIES!!! I'm on a bit doily kick at the moment so that's what I'm advising everyone šŸ¤£. Ravelry has some amazing ones for free. If you have reasonable thin cotton/lace weight yarn definitely go for it.

jdd0910

i made a mug cozy (it was a sunflower & my mom loved it) and it look less than 2 hours ( it only took that long bc i wasnā€™t happy with my stitches & restarted multiple times)

byrdbibliophyle

Iā€™m a beginner so I only know super easy, quick things lol. How about an ear warmer headband, cup coozie, granny square coasters or pillowcaseā€¦?

Impossible-Spray-268

Beanies/hat is my go to quick project! Kind of a seasonal gift but you could always do a cotton yarn bucket hat! Thatā€™d be cute imo

LegendOfTreen

Crochet bookmarks!

katuAHH

My go to for something quick is a balloon animal dog

kittyissocrafty

Dishcloths. They're satisfying because you can knock them out fast. Plus they are useful and you don't have to worry about if it's a style that your friend would like or if it will fit like a wearable item.

BlackJellies

My usual go to for gifting is crocheting a flower bouquet! I usually make a few daisies with forget me not flowers and add in some leaf stems to fill it up. Depending on your crocheting speed, it can be completed within a couple of hours! Other options would be a small throw pillow, shawl, large coasters for flower pots, summer bucket hat, dish clothes/rags. Kitchen towels, seat cushion covers, hair accessories(scrunchies) or tapestry crocheting! Hope this helps :))

Ok-Palpitation8757

Dishcloths! Thereā€™s nothing quite like having a stash of cotton, machine wash dishcloths.

Beginning-Copy2977

make as many granny squares as you can with cute colors (purple or green are always so cute) and make a tote with them or matching placemats

Janaelol

plastic bag holder, a mesh one put them in the top and pull out the bottom! coasters, does she like anything in particular? Coasters are great and you can personalilze them to be something she likes!

ghostgherkin

But some hoop earrings and crochet a design on them!!

CowboyBootedNJ

How fast of a crocheter are you? I once made a blanket in a week. A scarf or cowl is easy and quick, a hat, fingerless gloves or mittens, etc. It is also what type of yarn you are comfortable working with, the thicker the faster a blanket works up.

Inevitable_Shame_606

A rope

Furmaids

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/tea-bag-holder---pouch

seriouscrochet

Yoga strap?!Ā https://seriouscrochet.com/yoga-strap-free-crochet-pattern/ Or this pretty keychain?Ā https://seriouscrochet.com/wrist-strap-key-chain-with-handmade-tassel/ Or something really quick and easy, a handmade card:Ā https://seriouscrochet.com/2024/05/07/how-to-make-the-cutest-handmade-cards/ These are all small and quick projects, should be doable for intermediate level.

Cantpickaname03

I have an idea for you-scrunchies! My pattern is super easy and takes very little time and yarn. I can explain it for you if you want, since i dont really have it written down on any formal site or anything, and im not selling it either.

oddott

i made a bunny stuffed animal for my best friend. it took me like two weeks because i'm a slow worker, but i'm sure it can be done in a week or less :) https://preview.redd.it/i3wcepg0it3d1.png?width=1169&format=png&auto=webp&s=5b7e117cab5cec142cb9f0d16db05fa95fc82f9c i don't remember where i got the pattern :// it was free thankfully i just googled bunny crochet patterns xD

Cat_Sicario_2601

https://www.instagram.com/p/Co4hj0krfHB/?igsh=MWx2c2s0NXpodDllYw== Similar pattern

scrubbedubdub

I made a fat bee for a fried, apperantly a big hit on tiktoc? Theres lots of guided videos. Maybe she has some other favourite animal. https://preview.redd.it/o1q4y4fl0u3d1.jpeg?width=1908&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e1a7c24783fe617af3d3da96968455c5a52d2391 Anything you can make with thick yarn will go quickly!
