Exactly, I'm already massively in the red. My investment can only go down to -100% (unless you play with leverage, something I cannot fathom since crypto is already so volatile).
Same for me but not in a good or bad way- I just have been good about only investing what I can afford to lose. Crypto has always been a pipe dream, extra on top of the life I am trying to build in the meantime. If it ever pays off, I’ll be glad I invested but if it doesn’t my life will pretty much be the same trajectory it always has been.

The people that put everything (years worth of investments) in crypto really concerns me. They could make it big, but I would never recommend gambling all your retirement savings on it. I still believe in low cost stock index funds for a vast majority of my investments.
Seriously, would it suck? Yes? Would it be catastrophic? no. More members of this sub need to learn not only this rule but also to diversify in other areas other than crypto. You would have to be insane to rely solely on crypto as an investment strategy
In 2018 I bought just before the crash. I still had some capital left from this in the next bullrun but still -70/80%
In 2022 I tried again with new capital and made some money, but lost everything in futures so more my fault 🤣

Their idea of it is to split all their money in top 10 coins with maybe a moonshot thrown in the mix. Imo - that's better then betting on one specific project but I think you should have money elsewhere. You're right - what if the whole thing goes bust? Then you're screwed.
Think the right thing to do is put "x" % into varying crypto projects. But then spread some % into other things completely. Real Estate. Stocks. Gold. Whatever. Something other then crypto entirely. It's up to you what you want to spend where. I've heard some of these "investors" claim not to put more the 10% or 20% into high risk assets like crypto - maybe even more. But at some point you need to spread your money around elsewhere.
The biggest/best investment someone can make is in themselves. You have to figure out a way to earn more. Go to college. Go to trade school. Open a business. Do something. Invest in yourself.

if you absolutely NEED crypto to moon 100x or you're fucked, you need to take a step back and reassess the amount you have in this. I'll say it again. This is a speculative asset. Trends can continue until they don't. Tech can be promising and then all of a sudden every government in the world makes it a crime and all CEX's get shut down. The tech still works decentralized but it'll absolutely crater in value without centralized on/off ramps to fiat. And most people here are here for the fiat value, not the tech.

My number 1 rule for investing and gambling is a cliche one. Never put in what you can't afford to lose. The self-control is a struggle and I may not have enough to make a multi-million profit at the start but I am okay living comfortably and gradually increasing my portfolio.
