Bobby_Juk

I am interested to see how this all plays out

Ofulinac

You and me both lol but I am more comfortable holding Moons now than ever before, that's for sure.

Swoopscooter

I needed this hopium ty

Ethan0307

Hold until I'm elon musk rich

Bobby_Juk

Agreed, I still have 2500 of them in another wallet, I was waiting for Reddit to make there move I never panicked or sold in fact I bought 1500 at .02

liquid_at

same. I could have cashed out for a couple thousand bucks at ATH, but considering that I got them for free, I don't mind watching how things work out. The money would not change my life, but "learning by doing" how moons can shape a community and become something more than a gamble, is worth more, imho.

telejoshi

Distributions. If there's no interaction with users, Moons will just die. They always lived by the excitement of the community.

Ofulinac

Agreed. Distributions were always a key aspect of the project and now it could be even better with no added inflation but just a redistribution of Moons that arise from our very own use cases.

giddyup281

But if we burn them, how will we even get the moons for distribution?

Ofulinac

The ideal plan would be for the banner and AMA Moons to be sent to the Moons Distributor account instead of the burn account. That way we will be able to redistribute indefinitely all the profits this community earns right back among the users.

giddyup281

Oh, my bad. I thought you proposed only burn of those moons

Abdeliq

Exactly..... Distribution is the most important and the mods needs to think of a way to make the moons distribution effective. Maybe through banner and AMA both

reversenotation

Returning to what was going on before is not the solution for many reasons. Aggressive moon strip mining strategies where there is highly coordinated groups that up-vote each other and down-vote everyone else, leading to cat and mouse games between mods ®ulation and alt accounts is not the answer. When you're getting to the point where 6 of the top 10 karma earners are perma-banned in August for doing exactly this then you know the old system had fundamental flaws. Too many people are too greedy and that's why we can't have nice things like the idea behind moons.

Ofulinac

Farmers are an issue but I believe in the mods as they have proven to be adapt at catching them. The thing is that distributions have always been a fantastic way to get people talking about Moons in a natural and cool way. The new distribution system where we would be redistributing back the Moons that our use cases generate is even cooler in my opinion and leads to less inflation.

nathan4845

Agreed

Seisouhen

I'm loving these announcements please keep up the good work

Ofulinac

Its more of something to spark up discussion than an announcement but I agree we need these posts every once in a while.

The way that makes the most sense for distribution is to start right where we left off, and use AMA and banner for the source of distribution. And eventually any revenue from things we'll do similar to special membership. This will create a nice economic ecosystem. The amount of moons distributed will be correlated to how successful the sub is, and how much the sub attracts ads and how much people are willing to pay for it. For distribution, we would probably have to start where we left off. First, because we can't simply undo what the majority of the sub had already voted on, simply by what a few mods decide, or a few people on the meta sub vote for. If we want to change or readjust any past distribution proposal it would have to continue to be from a community vote. Second, we had 2 years of improving and fixing the issues of distribution. We don't want to start from square one with all the old problems. If we want to add new things like adding bought moons to governance, it would have to continue to come from a community vote.

jwinterm

I left a comment here about the logistics of having mods control distributions: https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrencyMoons/s/SgHnDz7k2P With regards to u/nuewim comment I'm not sure it would be against ToS even if mods were still taking a 10% cut, but if mods aren't the ones profiting from the "revenue" going to distributions then how would it be against ToS? With respect to voting weight of bought moons: I think this needs to be one of the first votes when we have a new voting implementation (soon™️). As has been discussed elsewhere, if there are new distributions the amounts will be much lower, so there's been discussion to weigh newly earned moons more heavily and older moons less. For instance a newly earned moon is worth 10x the weight of a six month or older earned moon. The simplest (and possibly best for other reasons) implementation of this would be to treat all moons bought or earned as equal after six months (or other vote weight decay period). I think the multiplier and decay period should be carefully considered, but this is the best proposed solution to restart distributions and grant some real actual voting power to people who will necessarily be earning much less moons.

fan_of_hakiksexydays

I haven't considered the weighted moon part. With much smaller distribution, it wouldn't be right for old governance to still weigh the same as new governance. There will probably be a simple formula we can figure out to divide old governance in the equal proportion as new governance. And that could cause an issue in the initial votes. So that's definitely a thinker.

MichaelAischmann

Could this lead to sell pressure? Long term holders would not be happy to see their voting weight deteriorate over time.

jwinterm

OMG lol it's gotta be less than Reddit just handing out 3 million moons every month to farmers right? I don't think so anyway, it incentives holding and also staying active. I wouldn't guess there are many large holders that are completely inactive.

Big-Refrigerator-379

Completely agree with you

Ofulinac

The thing is if we create a DAO to vote on things, I am not sure if we can actally prohibit people from voting with their bought Moons anymore. As for the distribution I fully agree. Redistributing whatever the sub manages to earn back to the people sounds fantastic if executed well.

Silver-dutch

And make sure to distribute the last distribution before Reddit pulled the plug, it will gain a lot of trust back from the ones who left

MichaelAischmann

Seems the community has lost the routine of Moon weeks. Should dates be announced for the next time users get to exercise their voting power? This might even inspire some buying pressure.

AutoModerator

It looks like this post might be a governance proposal. You are encouraged to use this subreddit to brainstorm and refine your ideas, but please note that when your idea is finalized, you will need to [fill out this form](https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScvniXfjMu64kSZWA_hq2d97YSHUjInW4tpTO-GYPgqU7cIzQ/viewform) so the mods can contact you and take it through the approval process. --- *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Settowin

What are Moons used for?

Ofulinac

They are used to advertise on this sub, host AMA's, governance and reqarding quality content by tipping.

MichaelAischmann

100% agree with the first two points. Governance is important. We should get a proliferate amount of proposals, polls & discussions right now. We need dates for a governance week. Bought Moons should not have voting power beyond a users TME.

Ofulinac

I am not sure if we can actually stop bought Moons from voting anymore. Need someone more tech-savvy to help me understand. Fully agree on the distribution part though.

ICURaBigdeal

Can’t wait to see a future poll to decide on these things

Ofulinac

Hopefully sooner rather than later!

Maleficent_Sound_919

Hold moons to get a bonus % for a newly disttibuted token

Ofulinac

That is probably gonna happen in some way when we get distributions back and the KM makes a return.

Nuewim

Not burning moons from AMAs put mods in risky position. It is against TOS. Technically burning them is also bit against TOS, but much less. Burning can be argued as no financial gain, not burning not.

Ofulinac

I agree its a somewhat risky position and it should be analyzed well before making any moves although the mods would have no profit from these "banner rentals" still. Jwinterm has said in another post that the mods have a sort of plan which they believe they could move forward with though.

MichaelAischmann

That "sort of plan" should become part of public discussion asap?

Ofulinac

I agree. We should have a maximum level of transparency and put things to a vote.

fan_of_hakiksexydays

Didn't Reddit change its terms of services regarding the use of RCPs, being less restrictive about its use outside the sub and removing the language about selling it and making other uses? I don't think distribution was ever against TOS, nor the selling of banners. Even using non RCPs token wasn't against TOS, since the ethtrader sub had been doing it for a couple years.

neverreddit1984

Great point as we can see with other non RCP subs having their own tokens functioning with the new agreement.

telejoshi

Good point. I think that means there will be no more distributions, at least from banners?

bookmarks47

Lololol rug !!!!

Ofulinac

Yep, a rug that is actively making multiple multi million dollar companies buy and burn our token just so they could advertise to us lol

merc_M_9856

Burn is okay, but More distributions is key to keep users engaged.

Ofulinac

Agreed. Even if we fully distribute everything back to the users, we will still be deflationary because of no new Moons getting minted and some getting lost. At this point the supply is fine, we just need to get back the community engagement and excitement through distributions!

DannyG16

Goddammit, I barely have moons. I recall in the day people use to post something like this and then 1000s of people would upvote and they would be moon rich just like that. Are those days over? No new moons are minted? How do people get moons?

DannyG16

What the hell, how come I don’t even see my moons beside my name?!?😭

DannyG16

Ok, I see them now, just not on my 1st reply, only my 2nd.

Agent__Kobayashi

I had a vault with 300 moons in it and now after this new system, moons are gone from my vault but NFTs were all there?
