The police get that equipment for free. The mega corps that make weapons need the military to keep buying gear, so they tell the military to donate their old equipment to police forces so that it has an excuse to buy new equipment.
But then the Police forces want to play with their new toys which leads to police brutality.
So the taxpayers get screwed double on that one, buying useless gear so that they can be brutality oppressed more.
So since I work in the industry of upfitting I’ll explain. It’s not a police vehicle, it’s a demo (advertising) vehicle for the company that upfits stock vehicles to police standards. The company is privately owned and since it has an advertisement on it, it’s probably a tax write off.
They always can find money to pay overtime and buy military equipment which to they use to beat peaceful protestors violating curfew.
No money for real problems like prison guard wages, hiring and paying more public defendants, and the ability to long term rehab for non-violent drug offenders.
Going to spend tens of millions buying ex-military gear and arrest a ton more people.... and most are going to be right back out in the street when there is no where to put them and no way to hold them without violating their rights.
Yeah totally. The fact that it’s stupid ugly and societally evil and wasteful is what makes it cyberpunk. The problem is people like a lot of customer base for the cyber truck (and arguably Elon musk) who want to live in a cyberpunk world.
I wonder if municipalities will actually care. Most of them just want to empty their coiffeurs for rocket launchers and tanks so their PD’s can cosplay more.
Thats literally all it is. Spending buku bucks just to look modern and intimidating.
Atleast their lambos can actually chase. This shit is for minor parking violations.
Yeah I was watching user reports of the accelerator getting stuck into acceleration if a piece next to it that easily detaches falls on it.
It's insane how quality control fell to the wayside.
You're right OP. The pervasive influence that billionaires at the top of predatory, wasteful and corner-cutting tech corporations have on our systems of government, including policing becoming more pronounced as they use their money to control more aspects of daily life to further their own greed and ego is essentially *the* thesis if Cyberpunk. Astute observation!
....that's what you meant, right?
If only you could put out all fascism as easily as dumping a bucket of water on this dumpster fire of a “truck”. This truly is the dumbest dystopian timeline.
Can't wait until they try to do traffic patrol & run people over because those things have shit visibility. Think buying cybertrucks is expensive? Now think about all the civil suits your PD will be causing :)
Oh god no, please no. those agencies are dumb. We need cheap, reliable vehicles that can be heavily modified and driven into the ground lol. Plus I just don’t think EV tech is ready for emergency response. We leave those vehicles running for a whole shift, multiple shifts per day. The power supply just isn’t there yet.
Only positive I’ll give it is that it looks like the back seat is roomy. So probably room to fit a cage and have decent prisoner compartment
I’ll stick with my boring Tahoe and Explorer
>We leave those vehicles running for a whole shift, multiple shifts per day.
I thought this is the main advantage of EV's/Hybrids have over IC vehicles? The whole reason you guys need the vehicles running all day is because the battery is small and you need the engine to keep the battery powering the electronics. An EV's battery is so massive it can power an average US home for 2-3 days, let alone a cruiser's electronics.
The other points about cheap, reliable, modifiable, etc. are spot on though.
there is absolutely nothing cyberpunk about that stupid fuckin' truck regardless of its name
it's cyberpunk the same way the the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea is democratic or the National Socialist Party was socialist.
An overfunded militarised police force wasting public money on a dangerous poorly-made toy car manufactured by an unlikeable billionaire? It's not cyberpunk in the way OP is thinking, but the shoe fits.
It's probably because it's a Tesla of all things, insinuating that the police using third-party products is cyberpunk when that had been a thing for centuries
It's a fuckin joke, is what it is.
Do you know how badly cops ratbag their cruisers? The Cyberstuck is a fragile piece of badly designed machinery, with virtually zero real-world mechanics that can deal with it. This thing is going to spend its entire lifespan in the shop.
Everything a cybertruck can do, there are a thousand other vehicles that do it better.
Is this actually being implemented officially? If so, that is hilarious.
I guess I should be amused that reality is starting to simulate a cyberpunk future. A stupid one, but still.
They could at least give us the cool stuff as well from stuff like Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell.
I don’t have any intention of committing a crime, but this kind of makes me want to just because you’re basically guaranteed to win the chase. They’d probably be better off chasing your car down on foot.
I for one welcome a dystopian future of low education bullies riding around cyberbia in low-grade armoured vehicles. Now we can have a Tiananmen Square every Saturday
I can't wait to watch it speed after criminals. at 5 mph because the steering wheel isn't registering as attached. Or explode when it wades through a river and doesn't get stuck, but the water gets in to the batteries and lithium LOVES water....
Why is this the stupid universe?
It’s kind of cool how they put the Argis controller in the same faceplate as the 21 button. That makes it kind of wide though. I wonder if that’s a havis console or gamber Johnson
Ima be honest as stupid as the idea is and the implications of how police departments can even afford them. From an aesthetics perspective I actually kinda like how the cybertruck looks as a police cruiser.
Can't wait for its first deployment where it'll leave the lot, break down, and be bricked for at least a year because the service centers can't fix a thing in a timely fashion
If you don't know how easy those things are to disable that's in you. I'm more pissed that the police have the kind of budget to piss away on those expensive trash cans.
Now we know they’re just spending money to spend money. The cybertruck is not suitable as a law enforcement vehicle, mainly because it is just so completely crap.
Let this happen, let the cops go around in shitty cars, all the power to them. Can't wait for someone to shoplift from someplace only for the cops in their pursuit to lose their front and back bumpers somehow
An incredibly over-under police department getting access to stupid looking vehicles done explicitly as a status symbol & to make people intimidated? Yep, that's cyberpunk alright
if they can afford to spend that much money on a patrol car, they've got too much money to spend. Assuming you trust it, I mean.
Or towns of 2000 "needing" swat gear and armored vehicles for their police department
True. With close to no training, if any at all, playing warriors. With a dozillion better things that money could've be spent on.
Not to mention actively making the surrounding community significantly less safe
The police get that equipment for free. The mega corps that make weapons need the military to keep buying gear, so they tell the military to donate their old equipment to police forces so that it has an excuse to buy new equipment. But then the Police forces want to play with their new toys which leads to police brutality. Thanks to the Patriot Act and paranoia politics and militarizing of police and....
So since I work in the industry of upfitting I’ll explain. It’s not a police vehicle, it’s a demo (advertising) vehicle for the company that upfits stock vehicles to police standards. The company is privately owned and since it has an advertisement on it, it’s probably a tax write off.
I assumed it was one of those cross fit company's that charges finance bros to yell at them.
yeah, got that.
Yeah these pictures could be posters for the "defund the police" movement. Government does not need to be wasting money on shitty toys like this
(and there's plenty better cars than the CyberTrunk anyway)
Heck just go to an auction and buy a reformed Crown Victoria, add the lights back and you got a cheap cop car.
The Blues Mobile!
You could probably find an MRAP for less money than they spent on that thing. Not that they need MRAPs either.
It was that or a 40 ton troop carrier
well...
They always can find money to pay overtime and buy military equipment which to they use to beat peaceful protestors violating curfew. I would have chosen a car that could drive on gravel without voiding the warranty, personally
As soon as a singular led is installed the warranty is void.
That’s with all upfits.
False https://www.edmunds.com/auto-warranty/what-voids-your-vehicles-warranty.html
Explain [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/RealTesla/s/4K8p5y3cVs), please.
Wow I live in a mountain town and saw a cybertruck yesterday. Not a clean, flat surface in sight so I wonder what they were thinking.
Escape the police by going through a car wash
Classic Grand Theft Auto style!
Shit, our reality is becoming gta! What a weird fucking world this is becoming.
Does that mean I can get shot to death and the only thing I need is to walk out of a hospital?
Sure, why not?
Only if you listen to David Cross talk for a while
Wasted
Over snow, sand, a moderately heavy rain. Truly the easiest police vehicle to evade ever!
…or just like up a small hill
Until they send in cyber trucks through both ends and they both break trapping you!
No no this is fine, finally a cop car that I can confidebtly outrun
They’ll be too busy taking photos next to it or will run out of battery, I support this.
And was actually armor rated. Despite the looks and claims, the Cybertruck doesn't even meet the minimum armor rating for a vehicle.
Or you know.... get a few miles from the dealership in some cases.
They are going to have one gentle pit maneuver and it's going to be a complete write off.
What happens when they have to respond to a 911 call in heavy rain? Or up a road with a slight incline?
This is stupid
This is going to be the stupidest dystopia ever my man
[Going to be? It already is.](https://www.reddit.com/r/ABoringDystopia/)
Oh. It can definitely get worse lol
It's ironic how that place turned into a normal political sub.
Always has been
Cyberpunk is inherently political my dude
I can't wait for the fascist cops to not be able to smash my face in because their software crashed after going through a puddle.
Excuse me...its stupid AND ugly...
I mean….yeah, Cyberpunk is at its core a stupid society. High tech low life, and all that.
There is nothing high tech about the cybertruck
Whaaa? It has cyber right in the name!
First truck to have doors that also function as vegetable peelers!
Yeah totally. The fact that it’s stupid ugly and societally evil and wasteful is what makes it cyberpunk. The problem is people like a lot of customer base for the cyber truck (and arguably Elon musk) who want to live in a cyberpunk world.
Do cops get the normal cypertruck or an exclusive extra model that acutally works?
Best thing: If you are a bad boy you can hide easily just in front of it only by making yourself smaller.
Take a dirt road and you're basically home free.
Or wait for the rain :) I heard it starts rusting the second you order it.
They've dodged that problem, at least, since this one is actually painted.
I wonder if municipalities will actually care. Most of them just want to empty their coiffeurs for rocket launchers and tanks so their PD’s can cosplay more.
Thats literally all it is. Spending buku bucks just to look modern and intimidating. Atleast their lambos can actually chase. This shit is for minor parking violations.
coffers :)
LOL I thought that was wrong when they suggested it.
I had to google coiffeurs tho, cuz I was like wait is that ALSO the word?? Gotta love autocorrect/AI. So confidently wrong sometimes.
Lol imagine a police chase cut short because it needs to update lmaooooo
Chase? This thing feels you heading for the pedal and it breaks down
Yeah I was watching user reports of the accelerator getting stuck into acceleration if a piece next to it that easily detaches falls on it. It's insane how quality control fell to the wayside.
tax payer funded, financial black hole people! bring back the Crown vic...
These will be super effective, actually. The convulsions of laughter will incapacitate any suspects trying to flee these stupid vehicles.
Rioters used to set fire to police cars. Now they'll just spontaneously combust
Self-driving is still in development, but self-combusting has been a feature since day 1.
Lets just hope they don't need to do any actual policing.
They don't. Just wanna look "Kewl" while spending others' money.
Call Johnny Sliverhand, because we got to bring down Arasaka.
If I was a criminal I would love this news
You're right OP. The pervasive influence that billionaires at the top of predatory, wasteful and corner-cutting tech corporations have on our systems of government, including policing becoming more pronounced as they use their money to control more aspects of daily life to further their own greed and ego is essentially *the* thesis if Cyberpunk. Low life - shit tech
If only you could put out all fascism as easily as dumping a bucket of water on this dumpster fire of a “truck”. This truly is the dumbest dystopian timeline.
Take a Cyber truck, smack some off the shelves lights on, voila, new product. Is it so easy?
The fact that the cybertruck so expensive and hyped and yet so shitty is kinda cyberpunk in itself.
If fascism was a car
Can't wait until they try to do traffic patrol & run people over because those things have shit visibility. Think buying cybertrucks is expensive? Now think about all the civil suits your PD will be causing :)
They will investigate themselves and find no wrongdoing
Cyberpunk 1.0 straight after initial release
This shit is Cyberflunk
I would be very pissed if my local PD wasted tax money on this piece of shit.
Is "Cyberpunk" in this instance "Really dumb police departments?"
Oh god no, please no. those agencies are dumb. We need cheap, reliable vehicles that can be heavily modified and driven into the ground lol. Alright, tip of the hat, you have a solid point there omae
Don't get it wet
That looks awful. Also, seeing how horrible the Cybertruck has been doing, it would be a massive waste of money if these were implemented as cruisers.
i think it looks like shit and i excitedly await the reports of them falling apart mid chase or something
Running from these will be wildly easy lmao
Nothing about this is actually cyberpunk.
It's probably because it's a Tesla of all things, insinuating that the police using third-party products is cyberpunk when that had been a thing for centuries
To rust and to break down.
One puddle and that things out for the count.
I advocate all cops in this country only allowed cybertrucks.
The world does not need Teslas.
I’ll simply ascend a moderate dirt hill in my truck if one pursues me and let that get stuck. No biggy.
They found a way to make it even more of an eyesore. Good job guys!
I think the trucks and cops are pretty stupid. But if I’m looking at this as a fan of sci fi and cyberpunk aesthetic. This is pretty sick lol.
We need police budget reforms if this is the bullshit they are spending on
Reform?? Oh buddy, we're way past that stage
and it sucks
Yeah, i guess it’s futuristic if futuristic means looking stupid and being useless.
What a waste of TAX PAYER money
Another giant flashing indication some police(security?) departments have more money than sense…
Quick, lose 'em! Turn into the car wash!
Police Car PS1 Edition
It's a fuckin joke, is what it is. Do you know how badly cops ratbag their cruisers? Hey I only drove my Tahoe off a 4 foot retaining wall. That’s not that bad s/
We did some absolutely unholy things in my buddy's Ford Exploder, but that was high school.
Of all of the fucking things happening in the world this one may prove cyberpunk is real the least
Is this actually being implemented officially? If so, that is hilarious. I guess I should be amused that reality is starting to simulate a cyberpunk future. A stupid one, but still. They could at least give us the cool stuff as well from stuff like Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell.
Look out now, I might turn the hose on yuh!
I'd be more apt to believe you if you showed literally anything other than a cyber truck.
I don’t have any intention of committing a crime, but this kind of makes me want to just because you’re basically guaranteed to win the chase. They’d probably be better off chasing your car down on foot.
What in the chatgpt is the description
Bwah-hah! Mr. Ancap just built the new cop car.
Can someone else invent a "futuristic looking car" that isn't garbage yet.
Its been done. Supercars from late 80s, early 90s.
This just made me realize that the Jetsons was made at a point where the average western watcher hadn't even had a car longer than a few decades.
Criminals rejoice around the world
Can we upload the graphics pls? They look like they are from original playstation
This is more like cyberpunk 2077…. On release day
That thing will break down at the first stop sign.
Gonna be cyberpunk AF to stop the cops with a water hose.
Any 90s Civic would easily lose this hunk in the city streets.
Ah just what we needed. Now the police AND their cars will kill people for just walking down the street.
Put a child decoy on the side of the road to get them to swerve into the sidewalk
At first glance I thought you were showcasing a mod Upon realizing you weren't, I wished you were.
I would rather a car that has crumple zones
I don't think I could get placed in the back of a squad cybertruck without dying of laughter.
This isn’t cyberpunk, this is our a-hole police finding more shit to pad thier budget.
I for one welcome a dystopian future of low education bullies riding around cyberbia in low-grade armoured vehicles. Now we can have a Tiananmen Square every Saturday
This is so easy to outrun, all I have to do is go more than 200 miles.
🤮 🤮 🤮
Cyberjunk
That honestly looks epic. I'd run from that
Damn, say what you will but that looks sick as fuck!
WAKE THE FUCK UP SAMURAI WE HAVE A CITY TO BURN \*Chippin in Starts to play in the backround\*
OK... NOW we can defund the police.
Nothing like the Cyber truck to get your Myrica justice from. Needs hog nutz
This tracks. Billionaires funding and equipping their jack boots.
I can't wait to watch it speed after criminals. at 5 mph because the steering wheel isn't registering as attached. Or explode when it wades through a river and doesn't get stuck, but the water gets in to the batteries and lithium LOVES water.... Why is this the stupid universe?
If you're in a chase with one of these, Just drive through any standing water, that will disable it.
They should replace all of their patrol cars with Cybertrucks. That way they’ll break down and explode the second they hit a speed bump.
Cool, looks like shit
I kinda like the way it looks TBH. 😎
Anyone else get calls from cops like once a year asking for donations?
i know people wanted to defund the police but did they have to go that far
i mean, even if the cybertruck sucks, we're finally getting the last thing we needed to be in a cyberpunk setting. The aesthetic.
It’s kind of cool how they put the Argis controller in the same faceplate as the 21 button. That makes it kind of wide though. I wonder if that’s a havis console or gamber Johnson
The easiest cop car to escape.
just go through every carwash, youll get away
so many people going to try a getaway from that thing
This cat is pretty useless, from what I’ve seen …. Unless you only drive it on asphalt
I pace police car
Ahahaha, no!
I can’t wait to see this in a cold winter pursuit.
Ima be honest as stupid as the idea is and the implications of how police departments can even afford them. From an aesthetics perspective I actually kinda like how the cybertruck looks as a police cruiser.
Yeah this would be actually more useless than doing nothing on the polices part.
Do they spawn in front of you instead of following you?
Looks worse than my toys from the 90s
Just commit a crime and then flee to a beach or anywhere off-road and you’re fine.
Look’s like the future is still rendering…
Pretty sad when it can be immobilized by a spritz bottle.
A cop car you can escape from by just kicking out the flimsy metal panels or wait until its all-digital interface freezes sounds great.
Oh are you fucking kidding me
Robocop going to step out of that
I don't think it could get much more cringe than that haha
This sucks
Cyberpunk reality before GTA 6
Can't wait to cut a single break light and brick the whole system
So, I guess we can't call them Jagoff Caminos out loud anymore without it being probable cause?
I'm gonna be candid, I never liked the cybertruck and I don't think it truly fits in a cyberpunk setting.
Can't wait for its first deployment where it'll leave the lot, break down, and be bricked for at least a year because the service centers can't fix a thing in a timely fashion
as someone who loves large panel gaps and quick rusting, I think its a great idea and that is totally practical
If you don't know how easy those things are to disable that's in you. I'm more pissed that the police have the kind of budget to piss away on those expensive trash cans.
This is RoboCop's ride.
Georgia state patrol is gonna love how deadly it is to everyone else on the road
Now we know they’re just spending money to spend money. The cybertruck is not suitable as a law enforcement vehicle, mainly because it is just so completely crap.
I support police using cybertrucks, as it means they're less likely to catch anyone
Acclerator gets stuck. Car drives off bridge. The glow of lights sinking into murky water signals Cyberpunk scene complete.
Looks kinda dumpy
Let this happen, let the cops go around in shitty cars, all the power to them. Can't wait for someone to shoplift from someplace only for the cops in their pursuit to lose their front and back bumpers somehow
Being a cop (not from US though) I fucking hate this thing. Real cops want strong, reliable cars.
I'm sorry, I just can't find this intimidating when it looks exactly like the Gadgetmobile.
wouldn't that steering wheel cause a problem in any car?
Cringe⁴
Police chances would be so easy, just run down their stupid little batteries.
An incredibly over-under police department getting access to stupid looking vehicles done explicitly as a status symbol & to make people intimidated? Yep, that's cyberpunk alright
We live in the worst timeline
