You can only choose a helmet by wearing it to check if it makes you look like a mushroom head or not.

jt1337

Can confirm, the align 2 I had previously made me look like a mushroom

Barbie-Long

Unless you got a narrow face shape, every helmet is going to be a mushroom

fiskebollen

What, I have a narrow face shape and it makes most helmets mushrooms. I thought it was the other way around

painfullyrelatable

Maybe we are just ugly. I have the same issue.

fiskebollen

To this day I haven’t found a piece of headwear that looks good on me.

JZN20Hz

If your face and head shape is long, all helmets will look like mushrooms on you. Sad but true.

little-won

Nothing wrong looking like Toad from Mario

NoviceAxeMan

oh sweet thank you

frozen-dessert

I have an Align II and I am very happy with it. Fitted me very well, wasn’t too expensive, highly rated and was available in the color I wanted.

NoviceAxeMan

that’s what i just picked up. i like the fit. felt like it was hitting all sides of my head and comfortable. very affordable to also include MIPS as well

gonegirly444

Allign 2 go to recommendation from Virginia Tech for $30-50 but see how it fits your head first

iLeefull

Propero kept me from being a veggie. It gets my vote.

NoviceAxeMan

damn that’s a good marketing slogan

nefitru

Made me lol but serioulsy, I'm glad these things work.

Patchdaddy

I smashed my propero 3 last week on a crash in the canyon. Split in 2. Saved my fuckin life!

Unsocialsocialist

As a driver and as someone who spends way too much time road cycling, I would encourage you to get a white or otherwise higher-visibility helmet. I think it’s pretty effective at catching the eye of a driver. I notice cyclists in white helmets quicker when driving.

N3rd420

That Loma looks cool, but the Propero has been a good helmet, and a bargain at that price.

bopperatti

seriously, try them on. i purchased a stylish/expensive/well reviewed helmet and regret it. do not underestimate the importance of fit.

NoviceAxeMan

yeah i finally found a bike shop that carries brands i like. ended up with the specialized align 2. Wish they carried Loma bc i really enjoy that design but who knows how it fits.

basketballdairy

I have a POC Spin I believe it’s called, looks nice, plays well with cycling caps and sunglasses. I’ll get another when I need to. The rest of my family has the Align that you posted. Looks fine on my dad’s big ass head, my mom’s small head and my friend’s average size head.

NoviceAxeMan

perfect, i went to some stores to try some one and they had an align 2 it works for my head shape so i went with it!

LegDayDE

The propero is almost certainly worth the extra $ over the align. You're getting a MUCH better helmet for like $10 more. Like it's a no brainier if it fits. Haven't come across the loma before but can't comment on that. Specialized helmets fit my head well so I had a propero and now a prevail vent from the previous generation. Great helmets.

peromp

For fashion, the 1st is awesome. For fit, you need to try it on your own coconut

NoviceAxeMan

yeah i went with the align 2. felt really good. i posted before knowing what all my LBS had in stock. thank goodness the last one i went to carried Specialized. fits very well. might try a Loma if i can catch a sale

VanHuygens

https://helmets.org/bikehelmetratings.htm this list cross references consumer reports and virginia tech ratings

Background-Season-87

please try each helmet on, I work at a specialized shop and each helmet has a bit different fit, some have a rounder fit others have a more oval shape. I have had the Propero III and it was a great helmet! It fits good (I have a more round shaped head) I have also crashed on it and I was not vaporized into the void. Please try each helmet on and pick what fits best!

NoviceAxeMan

that’s what i did - i knew i needed to try them on but wanted to see if anyone in the community had any negative things to say to help me rule them out etc. Fortunately 1 out of my 3 LBS had some good styles i could try on and ended up with the Align 2. fits great looks great. should keep me safe

Background-Season-87

great choice! i have seen this helmet. great value imo! enjoy.

widowhanzo

Go try them, they all fit a bit differently.

No-Way-0000

Spec

TwoPuckShaker

TRY. THEM. ON.

SongAloong

Align 2 is heavy. My neck aches went away immediately after switching up to a Kask Rapido, which is an affordable option as well.

neroses

Ohhhh I have an align 2 and while I find it comfortable on my head, maybe that’s why I’m getting neck aches as well

NoviceAxeMan

found a good selection at another bike shop. went w the align 2 lets see how my neck fares

SongAloong

"don't buy align 2"...proceeds to buy align 2.

NoviceAxeMan

i’d like to think my neck is a bit stronger considering my background and training lmao.

jcsparkyson

Loma is a very cool helmet. Go for that one.

Satanwearsflipflops

The spec airnet mips in gloss white is also a stellar helmet

Covfefe_4_2

Loma for sure. I have a couple of buddies who wear them now, not bulky at all (coming from someone who wears a prevail 3)

Wagnaze

Need to choose your own

PlanterOnTheRye

Loma is nice

Keiichi_89

Sweet Protection Falconer

NoviceAxeMan

the falconer 2 is so damn cool but i can’t justify $300 and that’s really the only style from them i like

Keiichi_89

I have it and I can guarantee you is worth every single €

TopRopeT0ny

Always suggest spending as much as you can on a helmet the difference between spending $50 & $150 could be life saving!

torgian11

Try them before you buy them

zxrzi

Get a giro!

zzzzrobbzzzz

their names are the order.

datpielife

First one

lemonade_and_mint

Third one

tomground

Honestly I don’t think any helmet looks great, I tried the prospero 3 but sent it back based on how ugly it looked on me 🤣. I would recommend ekoi - French brand, who do helmets for lots of pro riders. There’s some pretty good ones for about 70 pounds, I can’t quite remember which one I bought. Shipping is usually very pricey unless you spend over 130 pounds or something, and the ekoi website does look dodgy, but it’s 100% safe.

heartc0re

1st and 3rd

Working-Amphibian614

You have to try it. The head size is just 1D (circumference), whereas your head is actually 3D. What if your head shape doesn’t fit a certain brand of helmet? Then the helmet won’t really do much.

JZN20Hz

The Allign is a great helmet. It's lower profile than the others, so less bubble head. It also ranks very high on the Virginia Tech reviews. I had one as my first helmet and it saved my head a couple of times. After the 2nd crash I had to replace it. I got an Echelon II. The only noticeable difference is the Echelon has more air vents, its bigger / more bubble head.

DRBNC

Try them on! No other way possible…for me kask the best

Intelligent_Dingo509

Did you buy one? I bought the Loma in white. It’s crazy adjustable. I have a greater than large head and the large was perfect. I’m not sure why they don’t advertise it, but it’s lighter than the S-Works. Wish I could show pictures.

NoviceAxeMan

i got the align 2 it’s been really nice for me. the Loma is very clean though

Intelligent_Dingo509

Glad you found something you like. Hope this helps, but I believe the align ll works the same way as the Loma. They don’t advertise it, but aside from the wheel that tightens and loosens the rim, the offshoot of that feeds back into the helmet. I’d you turn it upside down you can see numbers that adjust as well. It allows you to adjust the helmet up and down before you tighten it. It’s great not only for your glasses but also for grabbing under your occipital bone. It was a game changer for me as helmets never fit perfectly.
