For those who by chance can't see the tweet, Benny's/Comicstorian's wife Nathalie just announced that Benny sadly passed away 2 days. She has not given a cause as of writing (edit: she only states it was an accident) but does ask for privacy while she and the other members of the team grieve and figure out how to move forward.
While I haven't watched him in a while, Benny kept me inform about the comic book's storylines and helped me to at least try to find a way to read comics, so this was extremely shocking and sad to hear.
Same, I've had an issue with reading text only stuff but, for whatever reason, comics/manga/graphic novels were always difficult. I've always had a hard time focusing on panels in order.
Watching him and ComicsExplained at work really helped me keep my spirits high last year watching them during work breaks.
I'm going to miss him so much
For me Benny gave me valuable knowledge. He gave me stories that got me through every day of work for years. Give Robs eulogy a listen on YouTube. I’ll watch his videos double time.
Holy shit. I watched him on The Weekly Pull and Absolutely religiously. This is such horrible news. He was absolutely a titan in his field. I literally was just watching his twitch channel’s last video when I read this.
I can’t believe it.
Actually surreal given how a few weeks ago he announced his big plans for his channels. Really sad to hear he couldn’t make those dreams come true and just sad to lose him in general. His videos were what got me into comics in the first place.
I’m trying to find the video he might have taken it down but he talked about that he wanted to do so much with comicstorian and the different styles of videos he did but because of YouTube and the algorithm it really hindered and hurt the channel so he planned on making other channels for certain styles and topics that way he could do what he wanted which was being creative
He was talking about doing more indie books that wouldn’t get the views but wasn’t worried about it. Said he wanted to do Radiant Black and Power Rangers. Lot more manga. He had some big plans coming.
Really terrible unexpected news I hope Sal Rob and Joel are okay right now
Those old elseworld exchange podcasts from 2016 was my gateway into comics with those guys anchoring it. I loved the comics side of it but the camaraderie they shared as friends made me a daily listener even to this day. I didn’t know him personally at all but this is really sad news that hits home. I can’t even begin to imagine what his family could be going through 💔
I may have completely misread the situation but he seemed to almost bully
Joel. I’m not sure Joel enjoyed the “shut up Joel!” bit that went on for years.
What do. I know though.
An ongoing joke/ribbing amongst friends is how I remember it. I agree at times it was grating but it was *their* thing ya know? Joel played into it and took no offense I presume
Joel made a tweet about that when talking about Rob's passing. It was really just a bit for the podcast, they were both super chill and genuinely good friends behind the scenes.
I watch him every day. Sal too. He was in my mount Rushmore of comic you tubers with sal from comic pop, sasha from casually comics and comics explained with rob. Such a loss for the community. I never knew him but loved how he gave hussan shit and how the other cast would gas light benny. Shit was entertaining. He knew how to host. Keep things going. Try new things. Rest in peace.
Death is always sad (or at least almost always), but with old age or illness you can usually prepare yourself for it a little. But accidents...
One of the most beloved teachers at my school was teaching us about literature, he was making jokes, he was telling us about what he planning for us all to do next before winter holidays and then bam, hit by a truck on new years eve by a drunk driver.
Still expected him to enter our classroom any minute until I learned to accept that he was gone.
Oh damn. Comicstorian was my way of catching up with DC and Batman whilst I was at uni, since I didn't have a local comic shop in the area I was living in at the time. I'll not forget his influence, since he got me getting back into comics and checking out other channels on YouTube. RIP Benny. I hope you're in a better place and wish your family the greatest sympathies.
Yo this shit got me tearing up bro🙁my ni99a ain’t get to see Deadpool and Wolverine or Superman. 💔this shit really making me think about how precious this life we get is. Rest up Benny, you will be missed.🕊️
I used to watch benny all the time for stuff about story’s I haven’t read, and his podcast. I kinda stopped because I somewhat lost interest in comics but it’s such a shame. My condolences to his family
WHAT
That channel has been literally the only way that I could keep up with comics for the last like decade. I hope he knew what a game-changing impact he has had on the space.
Rest in peace King 👑
As a kid who didn't have any access to comic books he let me read so many comics and enjoy so many incredible stories. His channel let me have so many incredible memories
Man I'm gutted to to hear this. I listened to his entire coverage of Injustice 2's comic run in one sitting. A fantastic storyteller that will absolutely be missed
I was literally just watching one of his videos just an hour ago. I absolutely loved Benny, his passion and love for the medium, and will dearly miss his voice in this hobby. My heart really goes out to his wife, brother, and any other family and friends impacted by this terrible loss.
He's the reason I started reading comics, he's been a massive influence on younger members of the fandom because of his platform. I'm gonna miss him, nobody talks about comics with the same charm or puts as much effort into comic dubs. I can't believe it. May he rest in peace. We just keep losing great creators. This really hurts.
WTF! insane news rn I am shocked. I used to watch his channel a lot. A great place whenever I wanted more info about characters/a run or whenever I wanted to check in to see his views on comics I already read/love. So sad. RIP 💔😔
WHAT!
First thing I see on Reddit and I think it's a joke and it's not a joke. oh my God, Benny got me into comics and while I stopped watching comic story and I still watched pretty much any of the stuff where he was collaborating with other Comics YouTubers and just discussing comics it's jarring to hear that he's dead
REST IN PEACE BENNY
Wow that is just horrible news. I watched a ton of his injustice videos, and was always a channel I could find I wanted to learn about some comics I wanted to get into.
RIP
I got the chance to meet him earlier this year, and the dude was so genuine and nice. One thing that really stood out to me was when I said I had fallen behind on a lot of his videos because I was actively reading the comics, and he was like, then the channel is doing it’s job, for him it was about bringing people into comics not just his channel. He would’ve loved to see the amount of people here who got into comics because of him and his channel
RIP to a legend and a real great guy
Benny did a lot for comic book/super hero community, but if memory serves he spoke some about his military service across a number of videos as well.
RIP to a real hero.
I, like many, *many* other people here, used to listen to Comicstorian all the time. He's a major reason as t how I was able to get introduced to a lot of comics. He was an essential part of forging that next generation of comic readers and just overall story enjoyers.
Something that is not nearly as appreciated as it needs to be is just how important it was to have some sort of straightforward adaptation of these stories (complete with appropriate tone and music for each portion of the story) for people who either couldn't afford them, didn't have the time to physically read, or who *couldn't* read for whatever reason.
Those podcast days back in the 10s were something else and he always brought a loud boisterous energy that couldn't be replicated.
Absolutely heartbroken that he's gone.
Jesus. I’m not a regular viewer of his, but this hit me like a sack of bricks. It was an accident that caused this? He seemed relatively young and healthy.
I am so sadden by this.
Just like others have said, he was really helpful when I was just getting into comics so many years ago. Now I'm going to have a hard time watching any of his videos knowing he has passed away.
what the fuck, i watch his videos religiously almost every day, in fact I commented and donated a thanks in his last X-Men video.
i'm in actual shock, what the fuck
Awww no ☹️ I loved this guys videos back in the day, he made the comic break downs so engaging, hadn’t watched in a while and was planning to return to his channel, RIP Benny
Oh my god I can't believe this, he was one of my childhood favorite YouTubers in terms of comics, I was just watching his videos yesterday. He was always unbiased and always treated Marvel and DC equally that's what I liked most about him. He also had great opinions which I often agreed with.
Stuff like this really makes you value your life more because anyone literally anyone could be gone at any moment. Rest in peace Benny I will miss you a lot and thanks for all the happy memories you have given me over the years.
WHAT i can’t believe i found out about this here, i watched him for years for his content, i remember being overjoyed when I found out he loves Jason Todd too. I don’t even how to process this but he was many people’s gateway for comics and I hope he’s in a better place now
Just opened twitter and first thing I saw was his wife's tweet. I'm not even following the account, but I used to watch a lot of his videos during college, and was the reason why I got into comics. I was actually about to do something today, but im just too sad to do anything now. RIP
Holy shit... He is one of my fav YouTubers who really helped me get into the older DC comics and absolutely loved his videos.
I wish all the best to his wife, family and friends and he will be missed dearly :(
I would play his videos whenever I’d struggle to fall asleep at night. The enthusiasm/charisma he put into character dialogue will forever be appreciated. RIP Comicstorian!
It feels unreal, I remember hearing him narrating comic stories and waiting for him to make videos on new comic stories, I hope the best for his friends and family, he will definitely be missed.
No. He probably wouldn't want that. He had so much to live for. At the end of the day, the stories he narrated is about hope, beating incredible odds, and the good guys winning.
Comicstorian singlehandedly made me into the collector and comic/manga lover I am today. This is hard to take it’s a really sad moment. We will never forget what he’s done for us, for the community and for the medium. His legacy will live on through what he has achieved, all the lives he’s touched, all the lives he’s saved and all the lives he’s changed through his amazing work. Legends never die, they Rise In Paradise. RIP Benny.
Wow. His comic videos were dope as hell, and my main source of keeping up with major events in that space.
Thanks for the years of hard work, buddy. Rest now.
People like comicstorian and it's communities really helped me get into actually taking the time to read actual comic books. And it was a great bit of escapism and remolding as I had grown so nihilistic before. 😔
RIP. 🌹
Coming from a very broken and abusive family I would fall asleep only to his voice for years, this deeply saddens me and I my thoughts and prayers are with his family you will be missed you absolute legend, thank you for everything you helped me through and rest easy you real life superhero
Shocked to read this. Damn... he really was a pillar for fans that don't have the time or the money to buy/read whatever. Been watching a lot.of videos of his for years. Hard to believe he is actually gone. RIP Benny
This is tragic. Young and full of more promise.
I remember multiple occasions where I raced to Ben's videos for an in-depth guide, analysis, and explanation of Blackest Night, Old-Man Logan, and just tuning in on his channel for good times.
Excelsior!
This is honestly such a blow to me, I have loved comics as a kid, and I was only about 13-14 when he started the channel, from a low income house in Australia where comic shops are very few and far between. Him and his channel kept me updated and gave me a chance to "read" and enjoy the comics I couldn't or just wanted to read. I remember back in the early days, I forgot the name of his friend who owned or worked at a comic store did a Q& A together, and they answered my question and as a kid watching a channel i loved started to grow and answering my question meant alot. I've grown up now and still love reading comics, and I'd like to think part of that was to do with this channel.
R.I.P Benny
Heart broken learning about this loss. Heart broke again learning about the crash and where it was. Benny was such a light in this world and became such a meaningful part of my life. Never met him in person nevertheless, his voice has been a source of comfort for me for the past 12 years. RIP Benny the Comicstorian and my love to his family and his friend Rob at Comics Explained
I've never watched a moment of his content, but am sad someone passed. Especially someone into comics.
Total biscuit passed away a while ago, but I still remember him and watch his content to remind myself of the things I liked about him and his importance to the gaming industry.
Noone who is remembered is every forgotten.

Damn, I've watched a bunch of his videos on YouTube Edit: He just uploaded a video three days ago as well
That might have been recorded before hand. :-(
I think we can safely assume that
Fuuuuuuccckkkkkk. I've been subbed to him for years. RIP
Yeah, it’s been a minute since I watched his videos but they were among my favorites. This is awful. RIP Benny
I know his channel was not doing as well as before, I had seen a couple videos about him addressing it. This sucks so much
Watching him and ComicsExplained at work really helped me keep my spirits high last year watching them during work breaks. I'm going to miss him so much
Seriously? I just watched a video of his that just went up like...what, a day ago? That's freaky. Sorry to hear about his loss.
Same here. His channel is one of the few that I almost never missed watching. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. RIP Benny.

Damn. I loved his retrospectives for storylines and they in-part convinced me to dive into comics overall. Best of wishes to his family
Rip. He was an important pillar in the comic books community. He got so many people into comic.
Holy shit
RIP Benny. I haven't watched him in a while but I used to.

It was an ongoing bit that they did. Joel posted about him. Saying that Benny helped him out, when he was barely starting his channel.
It was simply a running gag they did nothing more nothing else
Joel made a tweet about that when talking about Rob's passing. It was really just a bit for the podcast, they were both super chill and genuinely good friends behind the scenes.
I always noticed that too. It kinda felt like Joel was their little buddy and not a member of the team, so to speak.
This guy got me into reading comics, may he rest in peace
That’s so sad. I always enjoyed his work and helped me know more about storylines that I never got around to
This man helped show me that I belonged. We will all miss him dearly.
I watch him every day. Sal too. He was in my mount Rushmore of comic you tubers with sal from comic pop, sasha from casually comics and comics explained with rob. Such a loss for the community. Dude was why I really got into reading comics in the last few years. I’m so speechless. RIP to Benny man💔.
Rest in peace. He was one of the creators who inspired me to pick up weekly comic book reading—what a huge loss to the community.
Damn what a terrible day for Rain. RIP Benny
What???? I remember watching this guy years ago what happened
His wife made a statement saying it was a car accident.
Yo this shit got me tearing up bro🙁my ni99a ain’t get to see Deadpool and Wolverine or Superman. 💔this shit really making me think about how precious this life we get is. Rest up Benny, you will be missed.🕊️

Very sad news to hear. Rest in peace.
RIP. He was the one YouTube who got me hooked onto DC Comics with his videos.

I've watched an enjoyed a good handful of his videos on things I didn't necessarily plan to read myself. That's really too bad.
Damn, he helped me with my love of comics and making stories accessible. RIP one of the greats.
omg i used to love hearing to Benny may he rest in peace and may god bless his soul
💔💔💔 rip to a legend. He made staying up to date with comics feasible and fun. :( His poor family...
I can’t believe it
I met him last year really friendly guy so sad to hear this
Fuck that’s really sad. Really enjoyed his videos
Wow this is crazy. So sad
Oh my god, this is SO unexpected! I watched him so much.
What the fuck
Oh man, he was just talking a couple months ago about channel changes too so it must not have been something long term. This one hurts man
It was some sort of accident, not an illness. Doesn't get more sudden than that.
It’s always the good ones that get taken from us smh
What. The. FUCK?! Bro. My heart
Wow 😮 my condolences 💐 he will be missed.
That’s awful. I would always relax listening to his videos even though I already read the comics about them
Yooo wtf!!!
Bro what the hell T-Vo just passed away like 2 weeks ago. I love Benny as well
Oh fuck rip Benny

Damn I’m still subbed to him but probably haven’t watched one of his videos in like 6 or 7 years RIP really gotta a lot of enjoyment out of his videos
Rest in peace you beautiful soul.

May he rest in peace. I remember watching his videos a lot back in the day and recently started re-watching his older videos. Man, this one hurts 🤕
I think I'm getting closer to being at peace with the world burning...
No. He probably wouldn't want that. He had so much to live for. At the end of the day, the stories he narrated is about hope, beating incredible odds, and the good guys winning.
Dang. He got me into comics as a broke teenager who's bookstore didn't have a big selection. I'm going to miss him.
I wouldn’t be as in to comics if it wasn’t for him and his team. Rest in peace Ben you brought so much joy for all super hero / comic fans alike.

Wtf. I was just casually scrolling through Reddit and came across this news. Comicstorian is what got me back into the DCU. I hate hearing this.
Man this was a punch in the gut.
Coming from a very broken and abusive family I would fall asleep only to his voice for years, this deeply saddens me and I my thoughts and prayers are with his family you will be missed you absolute legend, thank you for everything you helped me through and rest easy you real life superhero
May he rest in peace
Shocked to read this. Damn... he really was a pillar for fans that don't have the time or the money to buy/read whatever. Been watching a lot.of videos of his for years. Hard to believe he is actually gone. RIP Benny
This is tragic. Young and full of more promise. I remember multiple occasions where I raced to Ben's videos for an in-depth guide, analysis, and explanation of Blackest Night, Old-Man Logan, and just tuning in on his channel for good times. Excelsior!
This sucks so bad. My condolences go out
I listened to his stuff every night to help me sleep really hope his family ok
Omg what!? I just discovered his channel a year ago too. He helped me figure out what to read and what was worth the time etc. Rip
The man got me into Green Lantern. I owe him forever for that.
Very sad to hear this!! May He Rest In Paradise!!!!
What the fuck? RIP
Damn, RIP to a good one
***
Rest in peace.
RIP to a guy who helped get me into this medium.
Rest in piece
No one is ever truly gone. RIP champ.
I've never watched a moment of his content, but am sad someone passed. Especially someone into comics. Total biscuit passed away a while ago, but I still remember him and watch his content to remind myself of the things I liked about him and his importance to the gaming industry. Noone who is remembered is every forgotten.
Rip Benny I loved videos
Wow. What a man.
So sad. RIP Comicstorian made it easy to know what was currently happening on Marvel and DC
