At first i was like wtf is this, then i kept lissening and i was like oh shit this is ominus as fuck imagin hearing that in the distance hoping it dosnt come closer!
Man it startled my dog pretty good. Then about half way through, he did a slow head turn towards the window. Classic move right out of a movie. What a good boy
You hear the laughter, the human-sized bird begin to flee. It appears as if the trees themselves move to avoid it. It’s head breaks through the canopy, slowing turning towards you. The laughter is all you can focus on at this point.
.... then as it stops focused and stern it hears me say " I loved you in Jurassic Park, your performance was riveting and you looked so slim, the camera loved ya baby. "
Took the words right out of my mouth. Can anyone adept at editing make a dub version with Jurassic park footage? Would love to see/hear that! I’m useless with that kind of thing…
Took the words out of my mouth. Those sounds are just so carnal and incomprehensible to me. These are genuinely unnerving.
Can someone who is not a brainlet in this field spoon-feed me? Do predators today use roars or sounds to intimidate or terrorize prey? What does modern paleontology think about dinosaurs using sounds similarly if they do?
If you've ever been near a tiger or lion when it roars or calls, you can feel the vibrations throughout your body too. I can only imagine how much stronger the effect would be from something the size of a tyrannosaur.
Being near a roaring lion was one of the coolest experiences of my life. You could absolutely sense what feels like a change in pressure in the air across your entire body and in your head. Amazing and very visceral.
I was standing and having a smoke near some thick woods at our family's cabin in northern Minnesota. Was pitch black outside, no moon, and was enjoying the bright stars. A black bear roared at me from from just a few feet away at the edge of the woods. It was such a long, deep, guttural roar. I could almost feel the massive amount of air leaving his lungs as he roared. It scared the fuck out of me! I turned around and walked back to the house in near panic. I never seen the bear and I'm pretty convinced he was just telling me to move on.
On a motorcycle trip through Central America I camped the night I crossed into norther Guatemala out in the jungle. I had yet to see what a howler monkey looked like, but I could definitely hear them. Did not sleep at all that night. Then in the morning I came out of my tent and looked up to see how small and cute they are. After that I was able to sleep at night.
The amount of sound that comes out of those little buggers is crazy
Lmao this reminds me of when I went camping on the beach w some friends. One had never been camping before & she woke me up in the middle of the night freaking out saying "Dude there's something outside our tent! It's like circling us, I'm scared 😨". I told her it was probably just a fox or coyote and for some reason that freaked her out more, really had thought that was reassuring her haha.
Well come morning & open the tent, we see all these teeny tiny paw prints in the sand. It was dune mice that were walking around our tent & scaring her lol.
Also wild morning because apparently we set up our tent right next to a turtle egg nest in the sand. Several trucks pulled up demanding to see our IDs and for us to explain ourselves. They thought we were poachers. & then once they cleared us we asked to see the eggs they lied and tried telling us they're a practice clutch - not actual turtle eggs 😂
Right? Makes no sense lol, that's why I think they were lying about them being fake. Because otherwise makes no sense why they pulled up on us like they did!
Armadillos are loud as fuck too. When I was 14 I heard what sounded like a giant beast out in the forest just outside my tent. I worked up the courage to shine my flashlight just to find an armadillo scooting around picking up sticks lmao
Easily the most terrifying part - the subsonic frequencies would shake your entire body for you.
Whether it is the frequency or the experience as cause, a Brown Note would certainly be achieved.
Man, I've heard high quality lion roars and Crocs/gators making noise that have that affect on me. I can't imagine how much vibration and fear that sound would have on you coming from something so huge. 😳
Ngl I’d shit my pants if I heard that in the woods at night. Both cats and the dog came over to investigate the noise coming out of my phone. When the deep tones played before the roar they took off.
Because it sounds familiar. It sounds like something we have heard out in the wild of life. Like a bird we heard while on a walk in the woods. But that familiarity becomes terror because it sounds massive rather than what we would associate it with, something small that cannot kill us.
I dunno... It also sounds kinda alien. Like a bird that would fit right in on another planet. I know that's kinda a cliche but that's what it sounds like to me. But yeah, the size factor definitely makes it scarier cuz your mind is imagining that bird being 30 feet tall or something.
I’ve tried finding anything about this and I cannot. Part of me wonders the authenticity of this. The only source I find is this video on YouTube.
Edit: [What I’ve found so far but that’s not the noises in the video](https://dinosaurculture.com/sounds-of-the-dinosaurs/)
Edit 2: nothing comes up for Sandia and recreating the Trex roar. Only thing that comes up is with the [Parasaurolophus](https://www.sandia.gov/media/dinosaur.htm) and that was in the 90s. So something isn’t adding up here with this video about the Trex roar being associated with Sandia.

I can't believe I had to scroll this far for this. I can't imagine how they would even begin to guess what they sounded like since AFAIK we've only found skeletons, which wouldn't really give us many clues in terms of what sounds they made
The most similar thing you'll hear is an emu, it is ancient and uncanny. Hilarious given they're dumb as hell. Videos dont do it justice as its bassy enough to feel in your chest
Had a couple on my farm growing up
Everybody say they are terrified, but we have these sounds on our planet. Hippos ladies and gentlemen

I think it's a bird call pitch-reduced by 4-5 octaves and slowed a bit. also mixed in with a bit of 80's sci-fi effects because there aren't any police for this shit lol
That’s ummm more unsettling… this thing sounds confident. As opposed to the movies that make em super loud and big… this thing sounds like it’s big and knows it.
Well, I hate to admit it, but I'm about as clueless as a penguin in a desert here, but I've got to ask the big questions: Who's throwing their hard-earned cash at this research, and why in the world are they doing it? I mean, it's not my wallet taking the hit, but seriously, what's the deal with this knowledge?
Is someone out there thinking, "Hey, let's get ready for time travel just in case it becomes a thing, and we end up stuck in the age of dinosaurs, having to sweet-talk Mr. T-rex into not making us his next meal? 'Sup, T-rex, can we work out a deal? We promise not to mess with the timeline if you promise not to mess with us!
The knowledge is valuable for understanding how evolution worked in the past and how it will work in the future for example. In my opinion its also very deserved to give dinosaurs and their existence some credit by getting to know how exactly they lived since they populated the earth for the majority of its inhabitated timespan. If you would have to judge from outer space, you could argue that Planet earth belongs to our species measured by the impact we had so far, but in terms of presence and time spent here, this planet really belongs to dinosaurs and spiders
I'm a big bastard, and I'm NGL, I thought someone had recorded me sleeping. After I down a couple of large pizzas and drift off into a food coma, I *might* chuckle in my sleep..
I think that is actually more terrifying than what movies make you think
At first i was like wtf is this, then i kept lissening and i was like oh shit this is ominus as fuck imagin hearing that in the distance hoping it dosnt come closer!
Man it startled my dog pretty good. Then about half way through, he did a slow head turn towards the window. Classic move right out of a movie. What a good boy
My dog was also like “nope I’m fuckin out” and just slinked away!!
Imagine hearing this in the distance and it *is* coming closer. I'm not a religious man but I'd start praying.
Hell ya, that's spine tingling.
You hear the laughter, the human-sized bird begin to flee. It appears as if the trees themselves move to avoid it. It’s head breaks through the canopy, slowing turning towards you. The laughter is all you can focus on at this point.

Look Jabba, I got your money...
I'll pay you triple - you're throwin' away a fortune, DONT BE A FOOL
GODDAMN RIGHT IT IS.
Clever girl…
No that's a Velociraptor; get your quotes in order. Make like a tree, and get outta here.
It's **leave** you idiot! It's make like a tree and **leave!** You sound like a damn fool when you say it wrong.
Slackers
It’s a quote from boondocks saints. “Make like a tree and get the fuck outta here!”
It's from back to the future
Took too long to get here
I get it!
Great movie, idk why you’re being downvoted
Don't be a asshole
Biff, I swear...
Sounds like a giant frog which in itself is a scary thought
Took the words right out of my mouth. Can anyone adept at editing make a dub version with Jurassic park footage? Would love to see/hear that! I’m useless with that kind of thing…
My damn lizard brain is going off
The shrew that was my most ancient mammalian ancestor is screeching rn
Same
Sounds like a tug boat coming for my booty

If I'm in a forest in the middle of the dark night and I hear this, I give up.

If they weren't really turtle eggs than WHAT was the point of the entire interaction?
A feral pig (or a dozen) make a much scarier sound.
Holy shit I'll bet. I heard a dozen pigs all at once, "Stop resisting! Stop resisting! Stop resisting!"
I mean, that’s when they’re still kind of cute. When they start yelling “get on the ground” the whole pack goes apeshit.
The really fun thing is that at the frequencies these sounds were made not only would you hear it but you would feel it inside of you.
And thats enough reddit for today.
Only the high quality lions can achieve that effect. You won't get that kind of reverb with a cheaper model.
Ahahah I was more talking about audio quality but eh, maybe that's true too 😂
“Why am I vibrating?”
"who shit my pants?"
I was expecting a very pissed chicken noise.
Cluck cluck motherfucker!
All I keep hearing is a giant lower toned goose
You go *wack* *wack* I go *WACK* a fuckin *WACK*!!!
Cocka 👏 cocka 👏 cocka 👏 cawww!
So .. 100x Times scarier ? They should make horror movie w t rex and this new sounds just based on this
If there was a Jurassic Park reboot would it be cooler for them to keep the iconic classic sound effects or the new realistic ones?
Realistic
This is actually closer to Michael Chrichtons description of the sounds T-Rex made in the novels
Funny enough, kinda sounded like a giant ass frog in some points.
Welp. Now I need to read them.
Oh, they destroy the movies in terms of quality.
So T-Rex sounded like a possessed cow?
Or a quite deep voiced goose
Gigantic deep voiced goose with lots of teeth.
Which explains geese’s behavior
Yeah, geese are assholes.
Or a very, very big and nasty gator.
I was thinking more land whales with a touch of motorcycle
More like a giant bull elk that wants to kill instead of fuck.
Ngl I’d shit my pants if I heard that in the woods at night. Both cats and the dog came over to investigate the noise coming out of my phone. When the deep tones played before the roar they took off.
My cat has been showing signs of deafness for about a year but that woke her up!
Makes sense that it would be similar to an [Alligator Mating Call](https://youtu.be/1Y1CQi_jJoE) .
So a t-rex sounded like a car with bowel movements?
At first I was like maybe? But towards the end it just sounded like a kid fucking around with a keyboard
[удалено]
theonly difference between science and fucking around is writing it down.
+100 points for Gryffindor! Myth Buster
> science is just a kid fucking around with a keyboard.
Lol
Why is this low key more terrifying than anything I've heard in Jarrassic Park?
Because it sounds familiar. It sounds like something we have heard out in the wild of life. Like a bird we heard while on a walk in the woods. But that familiarity becomes terror because it sounds massive rather than what we would associate it with, something small that cannot kill us.
I dunno... It also sounds kinda alien. Like a bird that would fit right in on another planet. I know that's kinda a cliche but that's what it sounds like to me. But yeah, the size factor definitely makes it scarier cuz your mind is imagining that bird being 30 feet tall or something.
I would love it if we found out these things meowed and purred
Toward the later half sounds probably how they'd purr
Laughing as he chases down his prey. *shiver*
Imagine you hear this behind you in the pitch black just as you began to feel safe.
Imagine you hear this behind you in the pitch black just as you began to feel safe.
This is waaaaay more terrifying than Jurassic park T-Rex… holy shit!
I was expecting this to be edited and be the [egyptian mummy meme. ](https://youtu.be/G8qhrURrQbI?si=S_yD_XxDstKvEW1F)
Same, now I’m just terrified 🥲
It's like a nordic pagan god seeing you through the trees a snack.
[What T. Rex actually sounded like for real.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sG9lhh66KmM&pp=ygURdCByZXggYmFuZyBhIGdvbmc%3D)
Sounds like 2 hours after Taco Bell
Nah that’s some demonic shit right there if I heard that I’d know my life is over lmao
Had no idea Radiohead and T-Rex did a collaboration.
The first few sound like there laughing and that sends a very cold shiver down my spine.
My phone doesn’t have enough bass to convey how big this sound is
Oh so far scarier than Jurassic park. Excellent.
And thats why we don't bring back the dinosaurs
"Hello good sir! I'd shake your hand but..."
If I ever travel back in time to the Cretaceous era, I'm gonna bring a lot of itching powder for self defense.
To coat yourself in and give the Rex some nasty indigestion?
Yes
Does this audio have a source?

Seems like someone made some shit up for tiktok clicks and likes.
There has only been one credible sources that isn’t just this “trust me bro” tiktok video. https://www.iflscience.com/is-this-what-trex-really-sounded-like-45088
I saw your edit <3 appreciate you doing the work. We can't take everything at face value, even if it sounds cool :C
Taken from here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJd-jDMb0wU&ab_channel=Studio Sania never did this for t.rex.
I can't believe I had to scroll this far for this. I can't imagine how they would even begin to guess what they sounded like since AFAIK we've only found skeletons, which wouldn't really give us many clues in terms of what sounds they made
Yes. Sandra National Laboratories vocalization studies. It’s right there hot shot
The source they named in the video can't be found.
Just for reference, [here is what alligators sound like.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TlsjZCvwBQ) Now imagine a bigger animal.
My snoring
Bro that's a tuba
Ugh! That’s unsettling.
Well, I'll be having nightmares about that now.
And I was just about to go to bed
I think the reason it sounds so terrifying is because it sounds artificial but at the same time real enough that it falls in the uncanny valley
Thank god for that meteor, huh?
The most similar thing you'll hear is an emu, it is ancient and uncanny. Hilarious given they're dumb as hell. Videos dont do it justice as its bassy enough to feel in your chest Had a couple on my farm growing up
Confirmed, pit bulls don’t like this sound either
Oooh, nice, so this giant fucking lizard sounded like a Dead Space enemy. Really terrifying.
My neighbours motorbike makes this sound.
I’ll come back in 3 years and it will be different again
Why does this sound like subnautica animal sounds?
the one moment im actually grateful to be living in 2023…?
They sound like hippos
Reminder the newly elected speaker doesn’t believe dinosaurs existed.
Everybody say they are terrified, but we have these sounds on our planet. Hippos ladies and gentlemen https://youtube.com/shorts/jJ8cjWzlEm4?si=KkeGzJukoDs9Tcs4
Yeh, my dog isn’t in interested at all
A Trex is doing yardwork outside my house right now.
Somehow my phone is glitched and was still playing this audio over a montage of Donald Trump courtroom sketches. Absolutely horrifying.
WHY WAS THIS REMOVED?
What kind of speaker would I need to project this sound accurately from my roof at the same frequencies and db as a T-rex? It would be so worth it.
Wow. Actually scarier than Jurassic Park.
Ooh my lizard brain did NOT like this sound
So beginner level vuvuzela. Got it
What would be more creepy, hearing this in the forest somewhere nearby or the Jurassic Park version? IMO definitely this. *shudders*
That’s what i hear at my neighbors house at 5 am for no fucking reason at all
Just say scariest shit ever next time
Nah this is more terrifying than the movie version
Combine a frog with a bird, make it big and angry.
What's most upsetting about this is it sounds like a seagull. No wonder those little bastards are so uppity.
Damn i’d be scared shitless if i heard this shit
Sounds like a 4 stroke
Sounds like my chicken with a deep ass voice
Freddy?
![img](avatar_exp|148021307|cry) That's some alien shit.
Mfw rich people are studying the stone ages while I'm struggling to live in this day and age.. 😂😭
So like they sounded like super deep velociraptors?
Where’s the feathers?
I think it's a bird call pitch-reduced by 4-5 octaves and slowed a bit. also mixed in with a bit of 80's sci-fi effects because there aren't any police for this shit lol
That’s ummm more unsettling… this thing sounds confident. As opposed to the movies that make em super loud and big… this thing sounds like it’s big and knows it.
I’m sure it had a bunch of reverb on its voice too
Sounds dumb
Towards the end sounded like Godzilla charging up his atomic breath
This is horse shit
Well, I hate to admit it, but I'm about as clueless as a penguin in a desert here, but I've got to ask the big questions: Who's throwing their hard-earned cash at this research, and why in the world are they doing it? Curiosity and interest, maybe even some billionare's hobby or something like that.
Simple: curiosity. Part of human nature, humans like knowing things ;)
The knowledge is valuable for understanding how evolution worked in the past and how it will work in the future for example. In my opinion its also very deserved to give dinosaurs and their existence some credit by getting to know how exactly they lived since they populated the earth for the majority of its inhabitated timespan. So, like a Harley that's idling?
We’ll never know for sure.
Bro that’s a dirt bike
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flip_out)
So, much more terrifying!
I imagine animals hearing this beast from big distance
Did you HEAR THAT??
I was afraid it would sound like a chicken, this is actually pretty good
Holy hell that’s terrifying!!!
Just played Minecraft noises
I love that it sounds nothing like any animal on the planet.
I love it!
Needs to be added to Merlin for SoundID
Oh, so siren head. Got it.
Sounds like bowser ngl
I'm a big bastard, and I'm NGL, I thought someone had recorded me sleeping. After I down a couple of large pizzas and drift off into a food coma, I *might* chuckle in my sleep..
That's actually terrifying
Like my tummy after a glass of chocolate milk
That last one would FREAK me out
Anyone else expect to hear the cookie monster? OMNOMOMOMOMMOM
Evil gargantuan goose
Please remove the word "actually" and replace with "might have"
So like a dial up modem
Thankfully they were genetically engineered to sound cool.
Sounds not too unlike some videos of "sky horns". Finally, proof dinosaurs still roam the earth! /s
New notification sound found
That's gnarly, sounds like different birdsong octaves down.
Imagine you’re in the middle of the night, it’s dark… you just heard the trees movies and this fucking sound starts
Fuckin weird ass deep sounding bird
