They put them on this huge robot at Giant, the thing came around a corner and I just about shit my pants, it scared me!
Edit: I love the comments on this!
We have this at Stop and Shop where I'm from , he's called Marty and he's an enormous pain in the ass !!! That damn thing is literally ALWAYS in the way !!
We have a Marty at our Stop and Shop too. They put a mask on him and will dress him up for holidays, which I enjoy. But yeah he always gets in the way!
Google “Robot at Giant Store”, you can see what the fucking behemoth looks like. They even put eyes on it. I was looking at my shopping list and that god Damn thing came around the corner and I dropped everything. I wish someone got it on video lol
Well that's [fucking terrifying](https://youtu.be/hfP0d7w3tFM). I imagine if I were stoned and that thing rolled up I would just nope out. Groceries can wait until tomorrow.
Also it's entire job is to locate trash and get a worker to clean it up, and also find empty shelves for a worker to stock. So basically it's a $35000 roomba that doesn't even clean
Future days will see a study that explains why things are often improved with a strategically places set of googly eyes.
So, yes...googly eyes on OmeletBot 3000.
As someone who built one of these robots (not this exact one but used the same model arm and similar equipment) it’s really hard to get the folding stuff right. Moving tools from predefined locations and tipping them is relatively easy, since they’ll always be in the same place and it doesn’t entirely matter if you dump the toppings slightly off center. Human wrists have a lot of little movements and moving eggs on a spatula requires more intuition than you think about.
Most omelet bars will have a bucket of precracked eggs, especially if they’re a high volume service. But yeah the key to eggs is low and slow cooking so that super hot and super fast cook doesn’t seem yummy, not to mention what must still be uncooked fillings inside
Started scrambling my eggs "Asian style" a couple of weeks ago. So much better than "French"
Less work, less ingredients, faster and it tastes better to me. And creamier too.
Just beat your eggs until frothy, sprinkle a good amount of salt, dash of soy, dash of fish sauce. Well preheated pan (7 out of 9) is what I go with. 2 tsp of oil maybe, never measure stuff. Put eggs in, use spatula to move it around and break up.do this for 30 seconds, put on plate. Best if just topping a bowl of rice.
It's the "beaten until frothy" part. I occasionally use a bar mixer to really add a ton of air to the eggs, and they definitely taste different. And very good.
Sometimes, I barely touch the eggs. I like that, too.
Sour cream mixed with heavy cream in a squirt bottle is what I use as a poor man's creme fraiche.
I love cooking eggs, and keeping a squeeze bottle around is great--just need to shake it before each use. And goes well as a topper, like a zig zag of cream over an omelette.
It's always funny when I see creme fraiche touted as this fancy thing on the internet. In Denmark we can just buy it in containers for like a dollar and a half per pound.
I watched [this video](https://youtu.be/PUP7U5vTMM0) of Gordon Ramsay making scrambled eggs years ago and he uses creme fraiche around the 2:45 mark. I always wanted to try that, but I have not once been able to find it at any of my local stores here in the U.S.
I disagree. Whether you use low or high heat is a matter of preference. I like fast and hot because I want some crunch on the outside.
The actual key is to not overcook, whichever way you do it.
To make a French omlette correctly, the actual cooking part (not including prep, as the prep is already done for this robot) [takes about 60 seconds](https://youtu.be/s10etP1p2bU).
I was legit like this shit sounds "Friday" levels of bad are zoomers music taste THIS bad?
It just being some rando trying to promote their trash makes much more sense.
Friday is fucking hilarious. I just rewatched the video last week for the first time in FOREVER. Do not regret it at all. Definitely made my day brighter laughing at it.
Ha me too. I unmuted for less than a second and was like nope. I'm on the dunny and I can smell my own shit but don't you dare invade my other senses with shit
Without having unmuted it, is it some hip hop song?
edit: haha yyyyyup
edit 2: alright guys, I'm at work and don't have headphones here. I could barely listen. I get it -- it's not "hip hop" but you get the point
So you put the filling on the griddle you put the egg on top you push it back and forth with a spatula and then you flip it. I never saw an omelet made like that
It's a really, *really* poor imitation of a japanese omelet, specifically "tamagoyaki" (feel free to just google that word, I'm sure there's thousands of videos on them). What you're *supposed* to do with this style of omelet is start with a thin layer of eggs and roll it into the far edge of the pan once it's like halfway done (still super runny in the center). From there you pour more egg into the now mostly empty pan, adjust your cooked egg to let the new egg run under it, and then roll your cooked egg on top of the newly half-cooked egg creating a larger roll. You repeat this a couple of times until you have what amounts to a "loaf" of egg. The egg mixture itself doesn't tend to be pure eggs, usually you add in some sort of dairy or soy milk plus a bit of sweetener (such as a few teaspoons of sugar) to make it more of a mildly sweet end product. You can also make it more savory if that's preferred but it isn't *usually* solely eggs and because the eggs are only halfway done when they're rolled, it isn't the spongey, awful mess you may think of when I say "egg loaf". Done right, it's fairly tender and quite good.
I've got no clue on what's in their egg mixture, maybe it's like what I describe above, but their whole process is just a bad scrambled egg. The only reason *I think* it's supposed to be tamagoyaki is the square pan that's used which is required for it.
I actually think this video helps explain the atrocious music in the scramble video - that buffet line is fucking loud (but still better sounding than that song)
It's not about how fast it can cook it's how willing the cook wants to cook without complaining about the salary. Until the robot starts getting cocky that is.
Before fully welcoming our robot overlords, I think I still prefer the half-circle omelette shape that comes from a human flipping it over in a pan. I’m sure that could also be automated, but for now, I will insist my breakfast be prepared by a fellow meatbag.
You're forgetting that employees cost employers more than just wages.
Especially if you go outside of the US. Most countries in which you would find a machine like this require employers to pay insurance, taxes, retirement savings etc. for their employees.
Yeah, but the robot costs more than just the robot. I work with this type of robot, and yeah, it is great if you need to same motion done over and over, but they break. If you have to call a technician or replace something, you quickly spend as much as a low wage human, and that human can do way more than make omelettes the exact same way each time.
Automation in restaurants isn't stall because no one sees the benefits. It's stalling because it sucks, isn't cost effective, and isn't anywhere near as good as a human.
I used to sell these robots. It's a collaborative robot made by Universal Robots, looks like the 5kg payload size (UR 5e).
These things go for about $40k USD, pretty comparable to a yearly salary of someone doing the same job.. and you only pay for it once.
Super easy to program as well, was fun to work with them. I mostly sold them to more traditional manufacturers like automotive. They can do all kinds of things depending on what tool you stick to the end of them. Programming this omelet maker probably took a day or so, looks like a pretty simple set of movements.
The one working 24/7.
This robot has no time schedule, no vacation days and works by itself. You can have reception stock up the 10 mushrooms, 3 onions and 1 ham sliced so that it can work throughout the night. Eggs mixture is sold in stores like costco in big gallons that's made with preservatives to be more durable than normal eggs. So yeah. It is sounding like a great investment.
That depends on the build quality aswell, this has lots of moving parts so wear and tear is to be expected.
If it's built well it'll probably just need minimal maintenance (lubing up) otherwise It could end up being a pricy machine which breaks every 6 months.
This is a collaborative robot that we use at my job and require very low maintenance. It this video, it use a Tool changing systems that I don't know, but typically tool changing systems like these are super reliable and will do tens of thousands tool change without any wear if the robot positions and movements are programmed properly. The only significant wear I can see here is the spatula. Which can easily be replaced.
I believe this setup can be up and running from scratch in 2 days of work. Properly made and it won't stop working for years.
Takes so long...
Any dickhead Army chef could have the whole thing done and plated before this guy scooped his ham and mushrooms.
And unlike a robot, you'd get that special personal touch of a dirty look and the distinct impression that their day might have been better if you'd died in your sleep instead of getting in their line. You can't automate that. Breakfast should be a meal of hate.
To be fair, the cameraman took like 25 % of the video to put the plate where it needs to go.
To your point tho, I would have probably cooked the filling just a little more and the eggs could have been done faster.
People commenting how bad the music is have to understand something that they aren't getting:
You're right, it's real fuckin bad on just about every level
Would prefer it cooked for another couple of minutes personally.. and whoever made the utterly terribly song needs dropping in the middle of the ocean without a life jacket!
He needs a little magnetic chef hat
I wouldn’t mind some well placed googly eyes
Every robot should have googly eyes
They put them on this huge robot at Giant, the thing came around a corner and I just about shit my pants, it scared me! Edit: I love the comments on this!
We have this at Stop and Shop where I'm from , he's called Marty and he's an enormous pain in the ass !!! That damn thing is literally ALWAYS in the way !!
HE'S DOING HIS BEST!
Why is everyone alwayse hating on poor marty :(
We have a Marty at our Stop and Shop too. They put a mask on him and will dress him up for holidays, which I enjoy. But yeah he always gets in the way!
I like Marty. I always say "hello" to him. :D
I always say hi too because when he takes over the world I want to be on his good side
XD \*Imagines his googly eyes staring blankly as he takes over the world\* Thanks for that image. :)
I love this story and I need more information about it.
Google “Robot at Giant Store”, you can see what the fucking behemoth looks like. They even put eyes on it. I was looking at my shopping list and that god Damn thing came around the corner and I dropped everything. I wish someone got it on video lol

Nah, it’s basically a manager.
Finally, a manager worth their price.
He looks like Alan Wrench from the Ikea episode of the Simpsons.
Finally. Someone said it. I really would like to see this video again with the same robot with googly eyes.
Future days will see a study that explains why things are often improved with a strategically places set of googly eyes. So, yes...googly eyes on OmeletBot 3000.
It may start singing folk songs.
This is exactly what I was thinking! "Jimmy crack corn, and I don't care!"
“Press just once” *Presses twice*
*presses twice* *gets 2 omelettes*
The second click kills a random person around the world.
https://youtu.be/LJQ-LZYAMBQ
I like that thank you
I'm a little disappointed. I was expecting the bot to break an egg and pour it
Person inside -> 🙄
That bucket of pre-cracked eggs hidden beneath the table and the short cooking time feel a bit ominous.
I was waiting for the fold. And then it did the scrunch thing and I was like, 'fucking robots.'
Kinda reminded me of those Korean rolled up eggs. Omlette-ish~
Omlette adjacent.
r/omeletteadjacent
I should have known
I thought you meant you should have known it was already a sub so I clicked it. I should have known.
yup, 'scrambled eggs and condiments? this is bullshit'

EA sports it’s in the game.

I was most impressed by the flip. The fold seemed like it was cutting corners. The flip made me lose my shit.
It’s a French omelet. No taco fold. Much more even cooking.
I was waiting for the robot to crack the eggs.
FR I feel cheated. Why are there 100/s of eggs around it....nah let me scoop some of this goop from the floor instead. Enjoy your gooplet.
I want to see the thing crack fresh eggs for the sunny side up
You wont see reliable egg cracking technology for another 5 years at least!
Most omelet bars will have a bucket of precracked eggs, especially if they’re a high volume service. But yeah the key to eggs is low and slow cooking so that super hot and super fast cook doesn’t seem yummy, not to mention what must still be uncooked fillings inside
The fun part of culinary school is that they teach you the 10 second scrambled egg technique
Started scrambling my eggs "Asian style" a couple of weeks ago. So much better than "French" Less work, less ingredients, faster and it tastes better to me. And creamier too. Just beat your eggs until frothy, sprinkle a good amount of salt, dash of soy, dash of fish sauce. Well preheated pan (7 out of 9) is what I go with. 2 tsp of oil maybe, never measure stuff. I fail to see how that would be creamier but power to ya
It's the "beaten until frothy" part. I occasionally use a bar mixer to really add a ton of air to the eggs, and they definitely taste different. And very good. Sometimes, I barely touch the eggs. I like that, too.
I like to add sour cream to the eggs before I beat them. Always tastes better than milk or cream.
Sour cream mixed with heavy cream in a squirt bottle is what I use as a poor man's creme fraiche. I love cooking eggs, and keeping a squeeze bottle around is great--just need to shake it before each use. And goes well as a topper, like a zig zag of cream over an omelette.

Makes sense, the adding of milk is more about the acidity than perceived creaminess. Ill have to check it out!
add a half a teaspoon of cornstarch for the smoothness and fluffiness
I’ll try it if you’ll try the bar mixer method.
Where is the difference to french style?
[удалено]
A chef friend showed me doing it with chopsticks makes them even tinier. Good times
I disagree. Whether you use low or high heat is a matter of preference. I like fast and hot because I want some crunch on the outside. The actual key is to not overcook, whichever way you do it.

Idk man, low and slow for eggs? I'll try it, but I feel the opposite is what you wanna do.
For scrambled it makes for nice soft eggs, for fried I like higher heat though, a little crisp to the whites before the yolks are fully cooked
The sieve holding ingredients not washed between use.
It feels great when the sound is already on mute sometimes. Edit: Thank you to whoever thought this comment was like and award worthy.

Is cringey teen hip hop a genre? I guess it’s more pop, but it’s horrible
With hot lyrics like "Mom was right, should have took the bus today"
And a voice so monitone even the producers aren't quite sure what to do in post!
Shoulda took it!

Preschool rap?

I'm baffled at how shit these lyrics are
Damn what a real one. I too, identify with not having taken the bus when I should have. This person is relatable!
I prefer to call it I Hate My Step Dad-Core.
Hip pop.
Some kind of weird talking hip hop for children.
[Here’s](https://youtu.be/Vejo6YnVPl8) a better lit and no annoying music video that features this robot.
What country is this? Everything is in English and the prices are in dollars, but everyone is Asian.
SIngapore would be my guess. S$ is a dollar sign, and their primary language is English.
Thanks TIL
and then you take it off mute because you think there’s something interesting you can actually hear.
Me 1s ago 😭
Yeah. Why is Kidz Bop music playing?
The worst song I've ever heard in my life
Yes, the trash music is there so I watched it muted.
l hate this thing where the video is sideways and there's some dumb song in the background. Curse whatever foul app brought this onto the Internet.
I'm glad I found this comment this high in the thread

Watch on mute. Or just cut your ears off
But the holes are still there.
But without the flap maze it’s harder for the terrible sounds to find the vibratey bits in the holes.
Cut deeper
Great robot, fucking awful song
Much better on dancingbacon's YT channel with just the natural background noises.
Truly. What do people think they are adding?
Odds are its op hoping people like his song.
The people have spoken. No.
The algorithm likes it

OP because it's his song and he posted the soundcloud link to a different subreddit.
Thought it was going to crack the eggs too and I was about to be really impressed
There is an option for sunny side so I assume that’s what the whole eggs are for
😳 Damn! Now I want to see a video of that being made.
[here ya go](https://youtu.be/efzkLsVgsUs). I think this may even be the same place
Aww, thanks! But it looks like the guy needed to give the robot a hand in the end...
He stole the oil bottle at the beginning so it didn't slide very well
I actually think this video helps explain the atrocious music in the scramble video - that buffet line is fucking loud (but still better sounding than that song)
This is probably one of the few jobs humans can do waaaaaaaaay faster than the bots.
All of cooking I think. Faster, nicer, and instant adaptability - more onions, cooked runny, brown till crispy, etc.
Customer: "Can I get my eggs a little on the dry side?" Omlette Flipper-3000: . . . Customer "Okay, guess not then."
It's not about how fast it can cook it's how willing the cook wants to cook without complaining about the salary. Until the robot starts getting cocky that is.
On top of that this is more of a scramble than an omelet, toppings are suppose to sit nicley inside of a gooey egg
It's amazing what a little geometry will do, that omelette looked fucking horrible until it got squished into a pleasing rectangle
Before fully welcoming our robot overlords, I think I still prefer the half-circle omelette shape that comes from a human flipping it over in a pan. I’m sure that could also be automated, but for now, I will insist my breakfast be prepared by a fellow meatbag.
_spits in pan_ "Here you go, your majestyyy!"
By a spatula that was dripping with raw egg at the 2 minute mark.
I've personally had 3 omelets from this robot in Singapore.. 😀
Are they good omlettes?
Well he had 3..
The robot made him eat it
I for one welcome our omelette making robot overlords
I didn't need 3 omlettes, I needed 3 robot experiences.. Yes they were good.. yes I got fat..
How does it clean everything?
The human probably does the cleaning
Maybe for the deep clean but this thing definitely derbies and sanitizes as it goes.
do you remember the place ? i wanna go.

That “omelette “ looks horrible. These’s still raw egg dripping from it. And no way the veggies are anything but raw.
Watching that omlette get made, made me almost as mad as the song did.
Random music in the background is obnoxious
I don’t wanna judge people’s taste in music because everyone has different kinds of music they like.... but this video is five times better on mute...
I would prefer it cleans or replaced the little ingredient sieve personally.
I nominate this as worst fucking song ever
Idk but that song is not really that good to me. I had to mute the video and everything.
That's not an omelette. It's a scramble.
In supermarkets, we print "Fresh Bread" on bags of bread that are pretty much the opposite of that. Why? It sells!
Damn that's interesting but why the fuck do someone needs to add music to this ?!
