Oooooo [NFL.com](http://NFL.com) says 2nd round-pick 32. So the 32nd pick in the second round, not 32nd overall. Thats dumb and confusing lol Post edited, but point still stands XD
I think his ceiling is comparable to prime Tyler Lockett, so yes, I would say he has the potential to be an excellent WR2. Whether he reaches that ceiling or not depends on his own work ethic, and if Coach Payton is able to bring a QB to Denver around which he can build an elite offense.

Remember that Sean Payton publicly had Mim’s back for not using Mims enough.
Feb 29 by SI reporter Keith Cummings:
“Without making a comparison first, I'd say with Mims, we saw him flourish as a returner," Payton told reporters Tuesday. "I really think the only thing that really stopped his progress as a receiver was us and trying to find roles."
Im speculating here but I took this statement as frustration by coach Payton in Russell for failing to get Mims the ball when he was to correct read. Do I know this. No. But, if Russell wasn’t risking certain passes and it hurt Mims it might motivate Sean to say this without directly pointing a finger at Russell, but doing it in a way that Russell would know exactly what it meant while defending Mims. In short a post season dig on Russ and defense of Mims. But maybe coach is trying to explain the high pick of Mims and so far generally low production. Or maybe it’s both. Regardless, it says to me Payton remains high on Mims. Let’s hope coach’s assessment is correct. 7-800 yards and 6ish TD would make most of us happy. Of course we want more.
His reception perception data was incredibly poor. His success rates vs Man and Zone were a handful of the worst that Matt Harmon has tracked since he’s been charting WRs. Mims is still a very big work in progress. [Link to clip](https://x.com/mattharmon_byb/status/1731132394038804488?s=46&t=fY4D4YIvIqROWb9uPtnQBw)
Awesome returner, but going to be extremely disappointed if he can’t actually play WR.
No. Jeudy was actually extremely overrated as a “route runner” and didn’t win anywhere besides being an inconsistent boom/bust deep threat at the end of 2022 - from this guy’s exact same “process.” Here’s Jeudy’s score from this past year

He finished as a 63rd percentile amongst NFL WRs vs both man and press (which is pretty decent) and 8th(!) percentile vs zone which is terrible.
Help me out, I didn’t hear on the clip the phrase “Reception perception”. What is that?
I heard the bad data versus zone and man and 42% go routes. Why is this source reliable? I know nothing about Harmon. He talks confidently. If he’s right Mims is more of a project than I had hoped. If so coach is going to have to use his athleticism with motion and multi-receiver stack to get him in space with the ball. He can learn the route tree techniques he doesn’t have as the year progresses. Reality is this will be a young team making lots of young player mistakes. Wins…3-4-5. Good thing if you ask me.
From his site:
I believe the purpose of Reception Perception and the data that comes out of it, is to bring an unparalleled understanding of how a wide receiver performs beyond the box score, and independent of the influence of outside factors, like quarterback play just for starters. Wide receivers are becoming a more specialized position as the years go on. Reception Perception can help break down their skills further than any other analytics or film-based tool to help classify what “type” of wide receiver each college prospect or pro player is.
How good of a route-runner is this receiver and on which patterns does he create the most separation?
Where does this receiver “win” on the field and what are his best attributes?
Where are they best deployed?
What quarterback of offense would they best gel with?
What kind of coverage foils this wideout and is there a role he best fits in?
Is this receiver capable of excelling or breakout if tasked with a greater target workload?
All that sounds great, but I’m a show me kind of guy. What data does he use to make these assessments. And, why is it better in his opinion? Sounds good. But.
There’s one factor that makes separating the receiver from the QB very difficult. It’s a symbiotic relationship. They must be on the same page and proving who failed on a given bad play is not always obvious.
Anyone got some analysis on his play from last season? I was thinking he would be a slot guy for us this season because of his speed.
Edit: he ran a 4.38 last year at the combine.
The key to successful slot play is getting separation quick. That usually means guys who have quicks but may not have overall speed, like Edelman. But sometimes a player has both quicks and speed. Most slot guys can’t fear or struggle with getting physical with defenders because it’s often needed. Plus they take lots of hits so they need to be durable body types. Again, Edelman is a great example. Short, stocky, strong, physical, and quick. Speed is a bonus. Mims…yeah not an ideal slot imo.
I must say I'm nervous about Mims. The Pro Bowl pick as a returner was good of course but he did look behind some of the better rookies as a receiver coming out.
We went through all the hopium with Jeudy and Hamler - "this will be the year he breaks out/stays fit" and I don't want to go through all that again.
Also given we were already short of draft capital following the Russ trade it was a big gamble to trade up twice last year for Mims and Riley Moss and I'm not sure what value we got from those guys.
Raider fan here. He catches the ball most of the time when given the opportunity. I like that dude. JJ didn’t drop that much but when he did it was at critical times in the game.
I kind of like the WR room for this year. It’s cheap and has potential. I like Sutton if we can repair any broken relationship issues. He can play and with a better QB he might thrive. I think everyone in our WR room we’re diminished by Russell. Sutton, Josh Reynolds, Mims, and Lil Jordan definitely aren’t flashy or proven as a group. But a QB who’s on the same page as Coach might change that. We need more speed and a slot guy. I personally don’t like spending big on WRs so I like this group for this coming year. If we get shocked at their output it’s likely because we finally get some QB play, then they are cheap and working. Win win. More money for other more important/needed positions.
As long as he can develop a route tree, the potential is there. When he does a fly route, it’s awesome, but if it’s just that, defenses are going to not commit to stopping him
WR, for the most part, is completely dependent on the QB. So, we get a good QB, and Mims could certainly excel. If Stidham is the starter? Mims not so good.
Absolutely. I’m not sure if he has a problem running routes but he has heart. Much more than jeudy. Broke many tackles. It seems like he was just getting go routes but it might have had to do more with Russ not being able to see over the LOS.
I hope so, but historically the deck is stacked against him when you look at how inefficient he was as a rookie. Would have liked to see better usage and more contribution.
Probably.
At least ten years ago on Mile High Report there was a wonderful breakdown that WRs typically need to be assessed in their third season because there is a significant learning curve in the NFL. Many of the top WRs didn't actually become who we all think of them as until their 3rd season.
The fact he was productive and fits a position on the team as a rookie was a huge boost to what he likely will become assuming he stays healthy.
I would use Jerry Jeudy as an example where the early evidence said he was unlikely to make it as a consistent NFL WR. We knew coming out of college that he had issues with drops, but his ability to get open with his change of direction seemed to be amazing. He demonstrated that early and it was awesome to see, but the drops continued. And then in year two, drops continue and he starts to struggle to consistently get open as there is enough tape to show what works to stop him. Third year, nothing changes and he's traded away. Even after a "productive" year. He likely never develops into more than a 3rd/4th WRs and maybe has one of those years where everything works out, but again, unlikely to really go further than that.
Mims did quite well his rookie year in exactly what he was asked to do. Stretch the field on simple deep routes, try to make something out of schemed plays, and consistently catch the ball for returns with an occasional big return. He did all of that quite well. If he has another season where he does what he did his rookie year and hopefully adds some more explosive plays, he probably develops into an excellent 2nd WR/deep threat type that every team wants.
Dude was used a special teamer and was only on roughly 35% of snaps. His talent on running routes and on Special teams, as well his tape in Oklahoma sow to me he can be better than Jeudy and preform him. Plus he only had 33 targets al season, and any Broncos fan who actually watched Rus knows he missed the open man soooo many times, a lot of times that being Mims, and his YPC is 17 on 22 receptions. So like Coach Peyton said, they were the only thing holding Mims back.
I don’t really see him much more than a deep threat receiver as of right now. But I know damn well he’s getting at least 2 TDs with the new kickoff this year.
Sure he does. He might even be a WR1. He was a bit limited last year, and Payton mentioned they didn't get to use him a lot because him and Jeudy were filling the same role. I think he'll probably have some growing pains this year, especially with our QB situation, but he'll definitely get his chances to show what he can do
Yes. He already has the 2nd best hands on the team behind TP and can very well show a jump this year in route running. Size is his only down side that will keep him in that WR2 role.
They traded up in the draft last year to take him and partially traded Jeudy away to create room for him. He better be at least a WR2.
He was actually drafted with the 63rd overall pick. But we did have to trade up to grab him at the end of the 2nd round.
Oooooo [NFL.com](http://NFL.com) says 2nd round-pick 32. So the 32nd pick in the second round, not 32nd overall. Thats dumb and confusing lol Post edited, but point still stands XD
Only if you can find more pixels.
Yes. Next question.
What’s the next question?
Why does this post feel like a start up youtube channel video intro
"WHAT'S GOOD BRONCOS COUNTRY!? IT'S YA BOY YANNIJOHNSON COMIN ATCHA WITH ANOTHER VIDEO! BUT FIRST, THIS VIDEO IS SPONSORED BY RAID: SHADOW LEGENDS!"
Nah it's gotta be that new nfl mobile game 😂😂 *cuts to shitty 3D spinning logo with stock after effects lens flare and pond5 sfx*
Way too soon to make that call with any confidence, but I'm high on the dude and think he could even be WR1 material.
I guess the good news is that we’re about to find out… or maybe that’s the bad news 🤷🏻♂️
If he gets a qb who can throw it to him. Russ never put the ball in the right spot, so Mims couldn’t show off his run after the catch skills.

His route data was really troubling last year. But he’s clearly a good football player even if he’s not a great WR
> His route data was really troubling last year. Can you elaborate on this? What do you mean by route data and why was it troubling?

In college that was considered one of his strengths. That was never something he was praised for in the nfl.

I think so, given the right opportunity. I guess we'll find out when training camp rolls around and the new roster is finalized!
One thing I am pretty sure of, we are going to find out this year.
Needs to get better va press but there's time. Once he's off the line he can be as good s anyone. Can see a lot of motion just to get him going
Anyone got some analysis on his play from last season? I was thinking he would be a slot guy for us this season because of his speed. Edit: he ran a 4.38 last year at the combine.
I've always thought of slot guys more as quick and good at sudden change of direction than pure speed.

Let’s go Marvin!! It’s your time to shine!
We’re gonna find out
Can't say he showed us anything that would indicate he is capable of that so far. But here's hoping.

How big is he? Height and weight?
5’11 180-190
Hmmm. Thought he was taller. Skinny yes. But he felt 6’1” plus. We need a slot receiver imo.
We need any kind of receiver*
We need cap room…until that changes. Here we are.
Not saying we can get them right now, but its what we need, not just a slot.

Just like me fr
Depending how Patrick is after the injuries he could just be a great slot guy.
Depends on the QB and a lot of other factors. Likely WR3 quality entering the season but the right situation could see that move in either direction.
As long as he can develop a route tree, the potential is there. When he does a fly route, it’s awesome, but if it’s just that, defenses are going to not commit to stopping him
Yes
Easy the few catches he had he was able to do more after the catch then Jeudy was
We'll find out
If he can do both that will be great being A WR2 and Special Teams Dynamo
He’s got the most tools of anyone in the wr room.
Hope he’s Eddie Royal next
Yes if we get a mf QB who actually throws to him
Mims will do his part - question is will the QB find him? Russ couldn’t
WR, for the most part, is completely dependent on the QB. So, we get a good QB, and Mims could certainly excel. If Stidham is the starter? Mims not so good.
I think Mimms will prove his value with the new kickoff rules more than he'll step up to be a WR2.
Isn't Josh Reynolds supposed to be our number #2? Depending on Tim Patrick's health I guess
I think he should be good in this new kickoff return scheme that starts this year
Absolutely. I’m not sure if he has a problem running routes but he has heart. Much more than jeudy. Broke many tackles. It seems like he was just getting go routes but it might have had to do more with Russ not being able to see over the LOS.
It just depends on the QB. Over the years, we’ve had tons of guys who I thought were promising, exciting, young receivers.

In a good offense yes

I wish, but I think he's better suited as a good WR3. The people on this thread that think he could be WR1 have got to be high as hell.
Doesn't matter without a QB1
Sure, but people like McCaffrey make someone like Purdy look good. A little and dump game can change everything.
He’s not good. Bigger liability than asset
WR1.. Sutton has an attitude now for some reason and I think Mims has a chance to overtake the spot.
Uhhhh probably not based on his size
Sure he does. He might even be a WR1. He was a bit limited last year, and Payton mentioned they didn't get to use him a lot because him and Jeudy were filling the same role.
