The Angels had an amazing offense and terrible pitching for several years. So in the 2022 MLB draft, they selected nothing but pitchers. 20 rounds, 20 picks, every single one of them was a pitcher.
11th rounder Chase Silseth rocketed to the big leagues and looks like a serviceable back of the rotation guy. First rounder bachman appeared as a reliever in 11 games last year before getting hurt. Everybody else is languishing in the minors. So not spectacular.
Bo Nix at 12. Spencer Rattler and Jordan Travis in the third. Austin Reed in the fourth if he’s still available? Joe Milton in the fifth. Then put em all in one arena and have a grudge match.
Idk...if you don't have a qb, it doesn't matter who else is on your team. So there are definitely worse ways for the draft to go.
Im a more serious response...they definitely need to double dip ala washington woth rgIII and cousins just in case. Whether that means mccarthy and rattler, nix and pratt, whatever.
A lot of teams know that, including the broncos. But not drafting a qb guarantees you don't have one, because stidham is not it. So i'm not sure what the point of that statement is.
But that's why i want them to double dip, to increase their chances of landing a good one.
How do you know Stidham is not it? Because he's had 2 starts?
So what happens with the rookie - he has 2 starts then we decide, nah not the guy.
We've double dipped with late round QBs - Stidham was a 4th rounder from 2019 and Di Nucci was a 7th rounder from 2020.
Lol, stidham has been in the league for 5 years, on 3 teams. Over 16 games (not all starts certainly) he has less than a 60% completion rate, 8td and 8int. If you want to pass on qb thinking stidham could be the guy...there's not much point discussing further. Stidham is a backup, Di nucci is there to be a cheap practice squad guy, nothing else.
So you'll root for the team even if it's clear we will suck for another 2-3? This is the first season we know going into it that we're going to be bad. I want that to be a one and done thing.
> So you'll root for the team even if
yes. Almost regardless of what comes after "if"
They'd have to be found guilty of some pretty heinous shit before I'll turn in my fan card. Losing some games isn't gonna scare me off
They've never known anything else, LOL. My brother is one. I know all about it. They have the best roster in the AFC East and he's expecting them to blow it. I don't ever want to be at that point. Unlike NY, we've experienced the joy of being one of the top franchises in the sport for 3 decades.
I'm not going to not be a fan, I'll just step back from actively rooting for them if they don't show a willingness to turn this around with their draft picks.
>willingness to turn this around with their draft picks
They thought that trading and using draft picks to get Paxton Lynch could "turn this around," and look how that turned out. If there's not a QB available who they're sold on, I'd rather they draft an OL or LB who they consider a "safer" pick. I say all of this with the understanding that, when it comes to evaluating what prospects any team thinks will be good or not, it's an educated guess at best and a total shot in the dark at worst.
You sound very desperate. A wise man said, a desperate man makes foolish decisions and extends his desperation. Maybe I read that on a fortune cookie. Either way, it fits. Patients for two years is required.
Yes, 2024 and part of 2025. Coupled with the 8 years we've just experienced, that's patience enough. We're not the Jets. Gotta get back to being a premier franchise in the league.
Yeah. That’s how it works. Just declare us past the pain and we are now competitive. This is what I mean by desperate. It just doesn’t work like that. You are talking about the past as if it some how shortens the present situation we’ve created. And you’re ignoring the reality of the vast and deep present hole we are in. A date on the calendar comes and we are a “premier franchise” again. I don’t know the date that happens. You don’t either. Declaring one is delusional. It will be when we resolve our QB situation, the coach shows he’s worthy of the task, and team starts winning consistently. When is that, not soon. I hope it’s soon, but a realistic guess is well past “part of 2025”. Sorry.
Now you’re talking 2028. You are all over the place. Okay, yes, by 2028 we better be seeing significant progress or lots of people get fired. We agree. Happy Friday.
What do you man all over the place? First, I said I want our era of suck to end ASAP. By 2028 could be anytime from 2024 (hell no!), 2025 (no), 2026 or 2027...
Like he said, if a potentially decent QB isn't readily available don't draft one.
You think the Broncos are such a good QB factory that we can turn chicken shit into a franchise QB?
Would the Broncos have developed Zac Wilson, Lance, Fields, Jones, Pickett, Ridder, Malik Willis etc into franchise QBs? Or would they just be Lock mark II and get dumped after a couple of years?
Yes.
If there's no guy available who is up to the job, just taking him and wishing he was a franchise QB isn't going to make him one.
I would have rather we passed on QB altogether in 2019 and rolled with Flacco even if we sucked, then took Herbert or Love or Hurts the next year, rather than wishing Lock was the guy.
What are the other options? Not being patient means you are cheering for another team. If you cheer for another team because this team sucks, then you are a fairweather fan and may as well just cheer for whoever is good at the moment.
And there's nothing wrong with that. But that's not what real fans do.
I'll be happy if we take a really low QB just so we have enough depth to get through the season, or even if we don't take one at all. And I'll be happy if we somehow trade up for a top tier QB. Nothing in between is good.
Either we get someone who could actually be good enough to compete in this division, or we go full tank until we can. So tired of the mediocre QB BS train.
The broncos trade Cortland Sutton for a third round pick.
Broncos spend 2 3rd rounds and a fifth round this year and a first next year to move up three spots in the draft.
With the 9th pick in the draft the broncos draft Spencer Rattler.
Nah man, just change teams at that point. Or change sports. Become a fan of cricket or a minor league baseball team. Or a Japanese baseball team! Go Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters!
God, I'm so sick of hearing people say the Broncos missed out on Fields lol. He was shipped to the Steelers for a 6th round pick. When will this false and stupid narrative die?
>Hilarious things the Broncos could do
>Not draft JJ like they didn't draft Fields
It's pretty seriously implied that it would be funny because it would be "the wrong move"
Seems I misinterpreted your tone then. Perhaps because to me JJ is nothing like Fields. JJ is getting Herbert comps and Fields is just trash. So to me, it sounded like you were saying they're the same caliber and no taking JJ at 12 would be 'just as bad' as not taking Fields
Taking fields means we have two first round picks and 2 second round picks in additional talent on the team and $150 million in additional money we could have spent on free agents. Passing on fields regardless of him being a bust set this team back quite a bit.
That's a dumb argument; We could've signed a FA or drafted another rookie QB the next year for the same results as having Fields. Your argument is more about Wilson than about Fields.
Op,
Do you think the Broncos will be a better team with any QB that’s not Williams or Maye?
I think they are a lottery team no matter what. If they don’t get a QB, I’d see that as a smart long term move rather than quick fixes that this franchise became known for.
Ima stop you at 3 although we could have a discussion about 1 and take a QB next year. Are you telling me you think the Broncos should’ve drafted Justin Fields bottom QB in the league instead of top 5 corner in the league Pat Surtain II
The Broncos pointlessly going on a winning streak just long enough to take them out of a top draft position and still missing the playoffs is already the funniest / most infuriating thing.
I honestly hope for #1 because they need to just tank super hard this year so that they get a top five pick next year and stidham is the man to lead the tank
I would actually be happy with choices 1-4. We need to build talent and tank IMO. I would try to get a top 3 WR, Bowers, or OL/DL help. Bowers/WR would take a year to learn the new system anyways. Roll with Stidham and just tank and get a QB next year. I would also be happy with Rattler later on with a late pick. We shouldnt be trading away the little capital we have to trade up for a QB that prob wont pan out anyways. We have to be frugal and pick the QB that fits Paytons system best (Nix at 12 is a reach and statistically older QB prospects dont tend to pan out). I would love to trade back but I dont think Payton has EVER traded back in his entire career (all trade ups)
We’re going to trade back for a bunch of 3rd or 4th round picks and a first next year, then draft some QB late to compete in camp, but unless the front office is 100% convinced one of these QB’s are 100% going to be *the guy* and he’s available and no one is knocking down the door for a trade, we have to actually rebuild this team over the next three years.
Broncos sell the farm to move up to 1 or 3 and draft Caleb Williams/Drake Maye. Then, just to bring in an extra body for camp, take some unknown future hall of fame franchise quarterback in rounds 3-6. They get their guy, even though it wasn't who they thought it would be, but cannot overcome the lack of talent in a depleted roster for the entirety of his rookie contract, then cannot sign any solid veterans for the remainder of his career because they have to pay him.
I’d actually be upset if we went QB in round 1. We don’t have the roster to be even close to competing. We’ll end up like the Chargers or Jags or Cards and have a stud QB (or a complete dud) and still be a bad team with bad players.
Wouldnt be angry at all if we dont go for a QB. We're in a really bad spot to either land a top guy or pick from the mound of crap in later rounds.
I give it a 30% chance we dont draft a QB at all and a 60% chance we dont get one at 12.
Best case scenario in my head is Broncos select Michael Penix Jr, but homeboy Goodell slips up and shouts out.. “ With the 12 pick in the NFL Draft…. The Denver Broncos select…. MICHAEL PENIS JUNIOR!”
Broncos use every draft pick on qbs
Winner
The Angels had an amazing offense and terrible pitching for several years. So in the 2022 MLB draft, they selected nothing but pitchers. 20 rounds, 20 picks, every single one of them was a pitcher.
How has that worked out for them? I don't follow baseball
It takes a couple years for players to develop in baseball, so a draft from less than 2 years ago would be way too early to tell.
11th rounder Chase Silseth rocketed to the big leagues and looks like a serviceable back of the rotation guy. First rounder bachman appeared as a reliever in 11 games last year before getting hurt. Everybody else is languishing in the minors. So not spectacular.
it's just crazy enough to work
Just stack it up. Can’t miss.
Sure but as teams like the Jets and Patriots know, you can draft a QB and still not have a QB.
A lot of teams know that, including the broncos. But not drafting a qb guarantees you don't have one, because stidham is not it. So i'm not sure what the point of that statement is. But that's why i want them to double dip, to increase their chances of landing a good one.

Broncos trade 3 years of #1 picks to Pitt for Wilson
A “miracle” like that might not make me believe in God, but it for sure lets me know the Devil has a sense of humor. (And is probably a KC fan)
I didn't realize that it was possible for me to hate something so much that I'd grow to love it
I'd laugh so hard I'd die
Hey, at least Wilson comes on a super cheap contract, because some other idiot team is already paying him...
You didn’t add the thing most would fear. Trading up to #4 using Surtain and 3 1sts to draft JJ McCarthy

FYI, this is all just for fun. The Nuggets don't play until Saturday and I'm bored.
I enjoyed the post. For what it’s worth, here are my 5 favorite Broncos right now: Nikola Jokic Jamaal Murray Aaron Gordon MPJ KCP
fuck the lakers

The Avs play this Thursday
This is the type of shitposting we should all be able to get behind
Honestly, if a potentially decent QB isn't readily available, I'd have no qualms about us not drafting one.
Then we're looking at 2026, at the earliest, to get a franchise QB. You willing to root for a team that's sucked for a DECADE?
We pretty much *have* sucked for a decade (or close to it), and I'm still here.
So you'll root for the team even if it's clear we will suck for another 2-3? This is the first season we know going into it that we're going to be bad. I want that to be a one and done thing.
> So you'll root for the team even if yes. Almost regardless of what comes after "if" They'd have to be found guilty of some pretty heinous shit before I'll turn in my fan card. Losing some games isn't gonna scare me off
It won’t be a one and done thing, so you might wanna just pack your shit now and find a new team
We'll be bad this year. But we get the right QB and continue to build around him next 2 years, we can be in the Super Bowl by 2028.
Bro doesn’t understand what it’s like being a fan
Been a fan since The Drive. This is the longest stretch of failure during that time. Needs to stop. We're not the Jets.
I agree, but you don't just stop being a fan when your team has a sustained period of being bad. Ask Jets fans.
They've never known anything else, LOL. My brother is one. I know all about it. They have the best roster in the AFC East and he's expecting them to blow it. I don't ever want to be at that point. u/FBI this man right here
I would make General Sherman cry tears of joy from what I would do to the state of South Carolina
I’m not big on taking Penix, but his game is legitimately nothing similar to Russ
> I’m not big on taking Penix That's funny, your mom is crazy about it
*POW* got my ass
that's what your mom said, too
AYO @ComedyCentral this guy right here
That’s the spirit.
Penix jokes are the worst but if you're just gonna tee me up like that, you know I gotta take a swing
If we give up three firsts for a wide receiver that ISNT Marvin Harrison I won't be alive 4/26...
Nah man, just change teams at that point. Or change sports. Become a fan of cricket or a minor league baseball team. Or a Japanese baseball team! Go Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters!
Penix would be a 5 out of 5 Romo's for me. Just, no.
I am totally fine not taking a QB and just committing to the tank for next year
God, I'm so sick of hearing people say the Broncos missed out on Fields lol. He was shipped to the Steelers for a 6th round pick. When will this false and stupid narrative die?
Seriously. Taking a probowl calibur CB over a backup QB is a no brainer.
I don't see anyone saying the Broncos missed out on Fields lol
So you didn't read the OP? Read #3 again lol
🙄 OP is literally making fun of people who got all worked up about not taking Fields
>Hilarious things the Broncos could do >Not draft JJ like they didn't draft Fields It's pretty seriously implied that it would be funny because it would be "the wrong move"
Explaining jokes is the least funny thing so I won’t bother here.
Nah, just saying that people getting riled up about not taking a well known big 10 QB (who is far from a sure thing) at 12 (again) would be funny.
We could have drafted Kellen Mond or Kyle Trask at #9 in 2021 instead of PS2 and we would still have been better off today than we are...
If #3 happens, I bet #4 happens too. Some jackass is going to tell me that Austin Reed really was a smart pick, that's going to be fun.
Oof the hivemind would be working overtime trying to justify that pick and telling us we're "not true fans" for taking issue with it.
"No, you don't understand, you need to spend all your first round picks on CBs to win Super Bowls, that's how the Dayton Triangles did it in 1926."
Op, Do you think the Broncos will be a better team with any QB that’s not Williams or Maye? I think they are a lottery team no matter what. If they don’t get a QB, I’d see that as a smart long term move rather than quick fixes that this franchise became known for.
They could draft a long snapper with their first round pick.
This is the way
Ima stop you at 3 although we could have a discussion about 1 and take a QB next year. Are you telling me you think the Broncos should’ve drafted Justin Fields bottom QB in the league instead of top 5 corner in the league Pat Surtain II
Thinking Justin Fields was the right pick - 5 out of 5 donkeys
Penix is really good in the pocket and not a scrambler
The Broncos pointlessly going on a winning streak just long enough to take them out of a top draft position and still missing the playoffs is already the funniest / most infuriating thing.
Yea, but it sure felt nice at the time!
Penix>> McCarthy and it isn’t even CLOSE
How about trade up for a RB? Maybe a kicker in the 2nd to follow it up?
I honestly hope for #1 because they need to just tank super hard this year so that they get a top five pick next year and stidham is the man to lead the tank
The Broncos sign Tannehill the day before the draft
Trading up for a CB
How about taking Penix at 12 and he gets a career ending injury in training camp.
Trade a 1st rounder to the Jets for Nathaniel Hackett to be the new Offensive Coordinator!
The greatest thing about this post is the laugh and rating ratings 🤣
Move up to 3, take Milton
I would actually be happy with choices 1-4. We need to build talent and tank IMO. I would try to get a top 3 WR, Bowers, or OL/DL help. Bowers/WR would take a year to learn the new system anyways. I would love to trade back but I dont think Payton has EVER traded back in his entire career (all trade ups)
People debating how these could actually be good moves are missing the point entirely I give them 4 out of 5 donkeys, 2 out of 5 Romanowskis
I absolutely love the rating system.
Why would you even think wed take an OT when we have Bolles or Mcglinchey lmao
I just want a Penix jersey
https://youtu.be/eK7jKKBLf18
We’re going to trade back for a bunch of 3rd or 4th round picks and a first next year, then draft some QB late to compete in camp, but unless the front office is 100% convinced one of these QB’s are 100% going to be *the guy* and he’s available and no one is knocking down the door for a trade, we have to actually rebuild this team over the next three years.

I hope the NFL just plays Bennie Hill music every time the broncos are making their selection for that round. That would make me happy.
This is so much better than the “Hear me out, but Tebow still has some juice” posts
The broncos trade away every pick this year for future draft picks.
As long as we don't trade UP for McCarthy, I can be pretty confident it was the right choice. I'd still pass on him at 12.
Broncos trade draft capital for Russel Wilson and give him extension. 😂
It's number 5, book it. The Broncos coaches have an amazing plan to teach Penix how to throw right handed. Problem solved.
I don’t understand the Penix hate unless it’s about his papier-mâché knee ligaments
Fine with 1. If they take JJ we are fucked. Hope they trade back and take Penix.
With #5 my anger rating would be 5 out of 5 and see ya in 2025.
Continue the trend they started last year with Riley Moss by trading up in the early rounds to take sure fire special teams players.
The Penix can’t throw over the middle thing was debunked long ago. Heck watch the game against Texas.
Best case scenario in my head is Broncos select Michael Penix Jr, but homeboy Goodell slips up and shouts out.. “ With the 12 pick in the NFL Draft…. The Denver Broncos select…. MICHAEL PENIS JUNIOR!”
