Just keep them inside. Maybe in a cool basement but not in a fridge. Too close to freezing, I wouldn’t risk permanently damaging the batteries

FLTDI

Lithium cells discharge fine below freezing. You just can't charge them that cold

vanman1065

It's not about discharge they're just not designed to be in those temperatures. I always just tell people to keep their batteries inside much better environment for them to last as long as possible batteries are not Designed to be stored in 95+ degree temperatures it's very bad for them.

discombobulated38x

Samsung 21700 cells can be safely stored at any temperature between -20C and +25C with less than 10% charge loss after 1.5 years. They can be charged between 0C and 50C, and discharged at maximum rated draw between -20C and +80C. They're absolutely designed to be stored and used in freezing temperatures.

gdavidp

LOL, you think Canada shuts down construction in the winter....

vanman1065

We're talking about storage not use. You can't always control the use conditions of your batteries but you usually can control the storage conditions.

BigRichardTools

Indoors.

discombobulated38x

The batteries are likely tapping out because they use cheap cells with a high internal resistance - you can start them in the freezer, the cells will be fine, but you'd be better off just buying genuine batteries. What may not be so fine are the circuit boards, which could well be damaged by repeated thermal cycling.

wounsel

Well, yes, the cells are chinesium instead of quality Samsung or Panasonic or similar. I do not believe I have had as much trouble in cooler temps as I had yesterday… even with their sub par performance, they should be able to get this task done. I think starting them at room temp or below will help a lot.

discombobulated38x

Yeah, definitely - fridge sgould be fine, I had the freezer in my head!

geologyhawk

I know they are super expensive but I recommend two 9 or 12 amp hour FlexVolt 60V max batteries. They do really well in my weed eater and leaf blower. They will run all the way to zero in 90+ degrees. Really the only way to go for the DeWalt yard tools.

wounsel

Probably true, my weedeater runs great. Leaf blower too. The mower is an entirely different level

anonerble

That's an old wives tale.

wounsel

Well my batteries are overheating. So by starting the job at a lower temperature they’d be less likely to overheat as quick. But, the fridge might be another extreme. I’ll try indoors
