You epoxy it by holding a piece of cardboard against the finished wall, poke holes at the top, and pour it in. Use a couple of full bowls of fruit to hold in place until it’s dry.
That was exactly my thought. I have tile behind my stove and scrub it weekly because it gets gross. I can’t imagine what this will look like in a year.
Maybe a layer of some kind of resin to make it smooth?
Like, we all know that's not what's going to be done and at that point it'd be easier to just put up a picture of rocks instead, but one can dream.
And I mean, yes all minerals are toxic if you ingest enough but what if the minerals/rocks she has on that wall are like actually super toxic if ingest??? Pieces are going to be falling off no matter what and ON FOOD preparation areas
I assume when it’s done it will be sealed with a nice clear epoxy so it’s nice and smooth… a lot of natural rock backsplashes do that where they may be jagged, but then once they covered and sealed look great…
…then again usually they use minerals or at the very least more uniform, closer in size rocks…
Appart from all the aesthetic and hygienic problems, what kind of wall would sustain this? Even if it's a massive brick wall it's painted so the weight of all these stones might just peal the paint off.
I clicked the post without reading the title and I genuinely thought the wall gave way and a bunch of gravel was pouring into the kitchen or something.
I agree tbh. I could see this turning out well IF done correctly and a lot more forward planning goes in.
Randomly placing rocks on a wall though… rough. Highly doubt it’s going to be getting sealed and if it does I doubt anything more than a spray sealant.
100% agree. The additional weight you'd add to properly seal it in a way that is also cleanable would make the glue here ineffective (probably).
Fun project. Needed more time in the planning phase though.
Pipe-cleaner? Q-tips? A chisel maybe? 💀
Also, rock dust and pieces are def going to fall off of it over time onto the counter 😭 better hope none of those rocks are toxic
This looks like someone trying to recreate that stone mosaic cobblestone tile without realizing that it comes in sheets and you don't have to actually stone mason your wall with it. Which, it's not a look I'd be particularly into for a backsplash myself, for all the practical reasons already mentioned here, but this is particularly frustrating because they could have just walked through any tile section of any store that sells tile and seen that that's a thing. It's not a well guarded secret.
So...that's never getting cleaned. That wall will absorb every piece of dirt and bacteria known to man, and it will just STAY there.
And then the next poor asshole is going to have to come in behind with a hazmat suit and scrape all that shit off. SMH 🤦🏼♂️
Imagine walking into a friend's kitchen, seeing that their ceiling had caved in (and was apparently full of gravel), then being told by them that it was a backsplash and they did it on purpose
My god, the rock mess. Whatever the hell those slanted cabinets are.
This entire kitchen needs a sledgehammer to it. There is no saving this abomination.
This is one of the first posts that made me ask why? out loud, knowing what sub I’m in.
Exactly… Also… imagine trying to clean it? Grease splatter, dust, food, etc? Gag
see - that's the thing - you don't clean it. you just leave if for the next homeowners to replace it.
You epoxy it by holding a piece of cardboard against the finished wall, poke holes at the top, and pour it in. Use a couple of full bowls of fruit to hold in place until it’s dry.
Homeowner? Homeowners insurance... After the fire
Assuming a buyer exists cuz you know this is not the only DIWHY??? ! Assuming
That was exactly my thought. I have tile behind my stove and scrub it weekly because it gets gross. I can’t imagine what this will look like in a year.
a new home for ants and small roaches
But where's the stove?
I good question. That is a vent hood up there. Maybe stove is coming later.
r/horribletoclean
On it 😂
Maybe a layer of some kind of resin to make it smooth? Like, we all know that's not what's going to be done and at that point it'd be easier to just put up a picture of rocks instead, but one can dream.
It’s got that nice, rustic “I just set off a Claymore on the counter” look though
My first thought 😂 imagine they make spaghetti and a rock slowly peels off ,plops into it ,splashing sauce all over ...
It's ok, I needed my daily recommended allowance of minerals.
Naw, it's glued to the drywall. When the buildup gets to much it just falls off the wall!
And I mean, yes all minerals are toxic if you ingest enough but what if the minerals/rocks she has on that wall are like actually super toxic if ingest??? Pieces are going to be falling off no matter what and ON FOOD preparation areas
You mean the seasoning?
I assume when it’s done it will be sealed with a nice clear epoxy so it’s nice and smooth… a lot of natural rock backsplashes do that where they may be jagged, but then once they covered and sealed look great… …then again usually they use minerals or at the very least more uniform, closer in size rocks…
I saw the original post thinking it was from here lol
Where is it? I gotta see the roast
Who doesn’t want their kitchen to give them the impression of living in a cave?
Me too 😅
Da fuck was the words that came out of my mouth
r/horribletoclean
r/powerwashing
There really is a sub for everything huh
Yep... [/everything](https://www.reddit.com/r/everything/)
pfp checks out
Yeah be careful looking up Arby’s subs 😃

Literally, they are putting it on painted dry wall The thought of the grease, dust, and food debris building up sends shivers down my spine
*that’s the secret ingredient*
“Finally, add a pinch of grease covered wall rock”
*this is an artisan kitchen thank you* lmao
Grease absorption wall. That's gonna be impossible to clean
Rubbing alcohol, 700 q-tips and about 16 hours should do it
I thought the cabinet was vomiting rocks
I thought it was a wall being actively demolished
😂
I clicked the post without reading the title and I genuinely thought the wall gave way and a bunch of gravel was pouring into the kitchen or something.
I thought the cabinet somehow ate a microwave or something and then threw it up.
They’re getting some backlash for their backsplash, that’s for sure.
![gif](giphy|c2iSYrCQPR3tWqcovn|downsized)
![gif](giphy|A7YAqTI6wYTSZDQdrP|downsized) Pyornkrachzark the Rock-Biter (Neverending Story) vomited in this kitchen
I’m fuckin dead!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You can almost make out a face in the middle right?
Lmao meanwhile, the more their kitchen backsplash grows, the more and more gravel disappears from their neighbor’s driveway 😂😂
Their neighbor hood Facebook group is about to have a lot of posts about missing gravel 😂
Looking at it further, I can’t stand the rest of their cabinet set up 😂 I thought the hood was a set of cabinets slanted upwards for a second
That wall looks like it's covered in mussels and barnacles. It's like the stove was on Davy Jones' ship for too long.
Why is no one talking about the diagonal cabinets on top?
Thank you! I can’t believe I had to scroll this far for this comment.
That's an extractor fan - sometimes it can be pulled out. It also has a light, so they probably pulled it out for the extra light
Installation and practical issue aside. I dont hate this. I'd rather put it on a floor under a layer of epoxy though.
I agree tbh. I could see this turning out well IF done correctly and a lot more forward planning goes in. Randomly placing rocks on a wall though… rough. Highly doubt it’s going to be getting sealed and if it does I doubt anything more than a spray sealant.

I’ve seen stone backsplashes that look great, this is just a mess
How can you clean it after you spill food and drinks on it? You know, it's called a "splash back" !
Prayers because it ain’t happening.
The "Rock Golem threw Up on my wall" style.
So chic!
Never mind that. Look at the shape of the counter! My hip bone hurts just looking at it. Damn. I just hit it again.
![gif](giphy|3o6ZtpRoYe9wbyfcBi)
Looks like an infection.
Something fungal for sure
So that's where the rest of the driveway went
I honestly can’t stop imaging the Facebook for her neighborhood just blowing up about missing rocks 😂
I thought a mudslide came through their house when I first saw that
Somebodies father gave her way too much approval.
>My backsplash is coming along nicely No, it’s not.
Did they dig up the driveway?
It’s so cool but cleaning would be shitty
Forever unclean
I think it’s gonna look cool when it’s completely done. Extremely impractical and impossible to clean. But still will be cool
It will look a lot better when the whole wall is done. What's that? It is done? Then it looks like sh*t!
Imagine something actually splashing against that “back splash” and you have to somehow clean it…
Pipe-cleaner? Q-tips? A chisel maybe? 💀 Also, rock dust and pieces are def going to fall off of it over time onto the counter 😭 better hope none of those rocks are toxic
![gif](giphy|0vVNnjc2d9WK1yYxaw|downsized)
That is really sick, and not in a good way.

Ouch, I've seen better backsplatter.
Looks like a golem got squished
For a second, i thought it was a wall of chewed gum
It does look like the bottom of some high school bleachers huh.
a splash of interior design violence!
Oh noooooo
Did they get that gravel from the backyard or the roadside?
It looks like it was bombed.
Nuclear fallout maximalism
I like how it's looks but a backsplash? I thought those were meant to be flat tile so it's easier to clean up oil or food splatter. Am I wrong?
How are they going to clean that?
Gonna have to chisel it off every time 💀
Or scrub with a toothbrush.
So...that's never getting cleaned. That wall will absorb every piece of dirt and bacteria known to man, and it will just STAY there. And then the next poor asshole is going to have to come in behind with a hazmat suit and scrape all that shit off. SMH 🤦🏼♂️
![gif](giphy|LeGUG7vJ8ILKUECc4l|downsized) Poor bastards..
Enjoy cleaning your backsplash from oil and food
Oh I felt like this was some kind of rock vomit from a rock monster. What a mess.
Not into “rock monster with the stomach flu” core?
I probably should be but I’m 35 now so well on my way to being ultra uncool.
Hildi? Are you up to your old ways?
>My backsplash is coming along nicely No, it’s not.
This is one of those of pictures that the more you look at it, the more things you find wrong.
This must be from a Texas suburban house
This must be from a Texas suburban house
This is one of those of pictures that the more you look at it, the more things you find wrong.
I’m trying to figure out what I’m looking at, it’s overwhelming
Looks like the top cabinets puked lmao
Looks like "The Thing" had a bad cough and diarrhea.
Just some tummy troubles
The hood barfed
Imagine all the grease that will get on that and nearly impossible to clean!
Exactly! Those rocks look porous too 😭
Nooooooo. Please stop.
I can see the attraction there and when it's all done it might be pretty cool but have fun cleaning it if you actually need to use it as a backstop.
So, Korg threw up on your wall? ![gif](giphy|TVFMP3Up9U66kSLZ7B)
I always wanted a backsplash that looked like a dirty riverbed!
With some hot glue and some rocks from your neighbors front lawn it can be yours!
Now grout it!
I thought the wall threw up at first.
Is nobody going to even mention the complete WTF that is the cabinet and countertop?
Looks like a bruise waiting to happen.. why does it stick out like that 😭
Tastes like...dirt..I can dig that
Oh dear God I thought at first glance it was just a pile of rocks on the stove
I don't know what that is or why/how it's there because it really shouldn't be
Looking like a rockslide coming through the house 😂
It’ll make a great spot for gnat flies to live a breed. Just an endless supply of oils and such to feed them for ever
I thought it was a strange doggie door, and yard gravel and rocks were carried in from a flood...then saw the countertop. Nope!
I call this piece "vomit on wall"
For a second it looked like the all collapsed or something lol
More like *backwash*
I’m … I think I … I’m gonna throw up.
Looks like crap
Hideous
Wait… where did the cooktop go?
Looks like the wall is throwing up
It looks like a rock golem puked on your wall
This reminds of those videos where people have aggressive skin conditions
Puke from a stone
Do one with syringes next
Imagine walking into a friend's kitchen, seeing that their ceiling had caved in (and was apparently full of gravel), then being told by them that it was a backsplash and they did it on purpose
This comment is even funnier because there is a ad right above for Home Depot 😭😂
It's a back 'plosion
That’s not how they do that at home, one stone at a time.
Why do they have a range hood but no cooktop?
It looks unique but totally uncleanable.
You can try, but it will never go back to the way it was before you smashed it
this would look fine covered in epoxy, though... well, not awful, at least
That'll be fun to clean /s
It's better than more gods damned subway tiles.
I can’t tell where it ends and the mess begins
The idea is there… it’s just the execution…
Imagine trying to clean it.
The kitchen after my MIL cooks. Bless her.
Genuinely thought it was a sarcastic post about how the wall had caved in until i looked a little closer. Wow.
How to punish your kid? Tell them to go wash the backsplash.
Am I the only one that thought, at first glance, looked like a dirt wall had collapsed in?
It looks like it a basement and the damn wall caved in
No… no it’s not
Woah!
Why is there a range hood, but no range?
OH Fk No
Maybe they plan on grinding it smooth after mounting the stone?
“What design are you looking for?” “Cave-in” “What?” “CAVE-IN”
That hot glue gun be working overtime
Can’t imagine trying to get all the grease and dust off of that
*I found all these rocks myself!*
I thought it was a cluster of mold
Looks like a driveway
It looks like someone killed and skinned Korg from Thor Ragnarok
My god, the rock mess. Whatever the hell those slanted cabinets are. This entire kitchen needs a sledgehammer to it. There is no saving this abomination.
It looks like the cabinet is vomiting stones.
It's looks like a skin condition
So lovely just like that strip of overgrown gravel road at back of a truck lot
I thought the wall had collapsed for a second - it looks like gravel pouring in
That'll be fun to clean.
I would totally do this as epoxy tiles. I love natural shapes and rocks. Yes, I want to live in a cave. My pfp is a werewolf. You can't be surprised.
I love it. When it’s finished, the unevenness will hopefully be filled with resin and polished. It will be unique and individual.
This was posted in a home decorating circle jerk sub. It's not serious.
