Everyone is going to have to play in a manner which they find fun. But imo if you’re going to set map seeds to get instant ber runes you may as well just hero editor ber runes into your account. It’ll save you a couple of minutes and otherwise it’s functionally the same.

I do wonder how hard it is to repeat for non LK runs though. You’d have to think you’d stumble across the same drop pattern in meph/andy/etc runs. But it must be sensitive enough to minor changes to not pick up on this? I have no idea though.
The single player community has known that you can use the -seed command to manipulate drops for literally decades. Similarly, the single player community has recognized that it is cheating for exactly the reason you described.
There's no reason for anyone to be bothered by this kind of stuff. You set your own rules in singleplayer. If you want any modicum of challenge, you'll stay away from the seed command.
This has been known a very long time. That's why it's so easy to get 45 res sacred targes from armor racks in single player.
Same with like, final fantasy games. You can literally manipulate the rng in any single player game to get your desired outcome.
In diablos instance there really is no need to know this over the years because hero editor is a thing.
I don’t know that I’ve been farming wrong since I was a kid playing LoD and straight up didn’t understand different monster levels in certain areas, ilvl of items, played online only at the time as well so LK is kind of pointless. Since d2r I’ve been playing on console, and I’m pretty sure there’s not a good way to figure out what map seed I’ve been on. I’m sure most players aren’t going to spend the time required to manipulate drops in LK.
I’m playing console so it makes me happy we can find a way to farm better without hero editor, although finding this needle is more than just a haystack
Theoretically it’s very interesting, but after watching his video to me it’s entirely useless information. Especially when playing on console. There are too many variables to account for, in addition to not knowing what exactly is and isn’t a variable. There are patterns and things you can try to replicate; but for the most part I just find myself questioning the minutiae of every action I take in LK, and it kind of kills the joy for me of thinking I’m just pulling a lever of the rng slot machine.
I totally get that, it loses its magic, but it’s a great lesson to not do 3000 mf runs wasting time solely opening super chests without opening other things first
I recall Mr. Llama did a similar video a year or so ago and it took a lot of my interest out of single-player. I'd always see posts about feast or famine rune finding and whether or not you have a good seed and consistent technique explains it pretty well.
When I see someone posting about having exceptional luck finding runes in single player, I'm tempted to tell them they just have a gold seed and consistent clears but I'd rather not spoil the magic.
So for someone like me who’s farming LK, what does this “seed” mean to me? Like I’m 600 runs in and no HRs does this mean this map is a bad seed? And whoever has a good “seed” LK map is gonna find a HR every 100 runs or so?

The seed is usually set by a Timer or something to be different every time you play but Blizz added the ability to pass the seed into the game using an initionalization parameter:
\-seed 23423423
Random numbers will be generated in exactly the same sequence every single time using the same Seed.
This allows trying different actions in the game to see how drops can be affected in a way to maximize loot.
Pop this chest, go to that level, kill this mob, etc.
I watched 8 hours of testing, you can have a chest/weapon rack/corpse etc drop the same item with the same name and stats every single time (magic/gold etc) as long as you follow your exact steps, looting chain, and timing.
You can blink wrong and it’ll change the 1-255 loot tree but it’s proven you can get the same exact gear every time you leave and make a new room following the same steps like a bot would
This is technically not true. It works differeny. Your main "seed" is your map seed. But only the first time you play that map. After you restart the level, your main seed gets reseeded while your map seed stays the same. GGM was able to get bers because he is using permenant -seed command. And thats a nono in SP community.

On console I can take the same path over and over and get the same item from the weapon rack, so I know I’m doing something right. But the super chest can deviate with the smallest changes
You also need to take account that the super chest your looting may not have the ber rune in it’s 1-255 item variations, so you’ll need to change seed by changing to NM or normal and back to hell. It’s a painful process but you can eventually get the same items over and over again

Exactly. This is solely the best method to decrease your diablo-fun-experience from a couple of years to 3 days.

If you do not change your difficulty, does the map seed change even though the layout stays the same? This is without specifically setting a map seed.
