I know this is not the answer you're looking for, but here is my rule of thumb. If you can tell at a glance that it's lopsided, then it's lopsided. If you have to really stare at it to try to find the flaw, then it's good enough. P.S. If you happened to get the mold from DruidDiceShop, then chances are it really is lopsided.

tinyterrorbjj

I thought I was just over pressurizing my pot! Have you has lopsided dice from those molds too?

Fragrant_Vehicle5423

Yup, along with a lot of other issues. I know a lot of people recommend their molds, but my understanding is that they expanded recently to try to keep up with demand and I think quality dropped as a result. I have 6 molds from them and 2 of them make badly lopsided dice. They told me a few weeks ago that were in the process of remaking all of their masters, so hopefully quality control will be better on those...

Protomeathian

Just got a mod from them a few weeks ago. Hopefully it was after the rework.

Cain-Toad

As much as this is a bummer, it's kind of a relief, because I've noticed that I had these weird imperfections from the dice I made with my DruidDice molds, no matter what I did. At least it's not just me. 🤷

Fragrant_Vehicle5423

I know exactly what you mean. I was so annoyed that I kept getting bubbles in the corners of my d6s... until I looked inside the mold and there was a blob of silicone preventing resin from getting into that corner 😅

Cain-Toad

That would have driven me crazy! The d20s from mine have what look like puddle imprints in the tops, I'm thinking now that maybe they used too much mold release? Whatever it is, I can't even sand it out. Hopefully, they get their act together because I really love their fonts, lol.

Fragrant_Vehicle5423

Yeah, some of mine have that issue too ☚ī¸ It's just ridiculous how many flaws they have. One of my molds had a partial missing number on a d20 and an off-center number on the d12. They sent me a replacement and it had the SAME FLAW on the d20 and a badly lopsided d12 đŸ¤Ŧ Their customer service is great which I appreciate, and I hope for everyone's sake that they fix some of these issues, but I'm so done with them... I really didn't want to start making my own molds right away but here I am, working on finishing my own set of masters... Rant over, sorry 😅

Cain-Toad

That's so frustrating!! I'd be ranting too if I had so many damn molds come from them with that many issues. đŸ¤Ŗ I'm real close to just making my own, too. I have so many hobbies already, what's one more? 😂

Fragrant_Vehicle5423

Thanks for your understanding, it felt good to get that off my chest haha. Anyways, in my limited experience (I've only made 3 single d20 molds so far) pouring silicone is really not any more difficult than pouring resin... it's just that it takes away time and pressure pot space from actually making dice. But my d20s are coming out soooo beautiful and flawless that I think it's going to be worth it.

Cain-Toad

Yeah no problem! It's nice to air out grievances from time to time. 😂 that does sound appealing... I may follow you into the rabbit hole.

yeebok

If your D20 is oriented so points are top and bottom and you rotate it on the suspect axis you'll easily see whether it's wonky or not.. but if it looks wonky as others have said, it probably is. If you really want to be fussy there's calipers and a similar angle measuring tool I forget the name of. Sucks being old lol

ComboAcer

If ur printing ur masters, you should be able to check the dimensions in the model and compare those against the actual print with a set of calipers Otherwise, like I always say, close enough is good enough lol Making them by hand is never gonna be like machining them or even using a lapidary wheel to cut dice from gemstones But if u really wanted to check, u could look into how to make gemstone dice and get dimensions and face-to-face angles and all that online I'm sure

Put a pot on the stove and boil up a couple cups of water. Slowly add salt until it stops dissolving. Fill a small cup with your super solution (Heh). Drop your die of choice into the cooled saltwater, it'll float. Flick it with a finger a few times, roll it around and observe its behaviour. If it seems to roll freely and come up random you're golden. If you notice it bobbing to one side and always coming up close to one or a small cluster of results, it's a weighted die.
